Overview

Versus Mode is part of the Untold Stories Bundle that was recently released on Steam and it can instantly be accessed from "Extra Content" in the "Play Game" menu even without starting the main campaign, unlike with the other DLC content.

As the name suggests Versus is a competitive multiplayer mode that puts you in a stage with 1 to 3 other players and makes you all fight for the top score. There's two different variations to this mode: "Slayers" and "Survivors", both of which can be played Solo or in a Team.
Characters
In Versus mode you have the same set of characters as in "The Mercenaries" mode, however unlike in Mercenaries mode, new characters in Versus are unlocked from the Bonus Features menu, same as costumes, figures, filters and infinite ammo for certain weapons, meaning you have to acquire them with points that you earned from completing campaign chapters, Mercenaries runs or even versus matches. The higher your rank/score/position the more points you will earn logically.

Here you can see a list of all the characters (Chris (BSAA) and Sheva (BSAA) are unlocked by default). They can be found at the very bottom of the "Bonus Features" list. You won't exactly know what you are buying since they are marked with letters rather than their actual names but the characters are listed in the exact same order as they are in "The Mercenaries" character selection, so...

Character A - Chris (Safari)
Character B - Chris (STARS)
Character C - Sheva (Clubbin')
Character D - Sheva (Tribal)
Character E - Jill (BSAA)
Character F - Jill (Battle Suit)
Character G - Wesker (Midnight)
Character H - Wesker (STARS)
General Tips
In this section I will just list some things that you should be aware of and know, no matter which mode you play. The mode specific tips are in their respective sections.

  • Always open your map, so you can easily tell where your opponents/partner is.
  • If you are winning, don't take the Time Bonus Crystals. You don't want to extend the duration of the match and risk losing (unless of course you want a long match).
  • The player in last place will get double points, so if you get unlucky, you are not really unlucky since killing a boss/catching a player off guard while in last place might as well get you back to the number one position.
  • Headshots on players give a x1.5 damage/score multiplier but I don't suggest aiming for the head in this game as you are more likely to miss.
Slayers

So here we have the first of the 2 versus sub-modes. Slayers is essentially "The Mercenaries" mode wth other players running around the same map, trying to steal your kills or ruin your combo by killing you. Otherwise the rules stay the same: Stronger enemies = more points. Bigger combos = more points. More points = win.

Above you can see the official point values of each enemy, they are the same as in Mercenaries mode.
Now some things you might want to note here:
  • Much like in Solo Mercenaries mode, if you enter the dying state, you have to rapidly tap the partner button to restore your status since you have no one else to save you from this state.
  • Killing a player counts towards your combo, so if you don't have an enemy, might as well kill that nearby player to keep your combo going. The 1000 points ain't really too tempting though but you might as well ruin their combo and stop them from earning a lot of points this way.
  • Death does not automatically end your combo, so if you die and respawn somewhere else with an enemy nearby you might as well end up being able to continue your combo despite the death. And the 1000 point penalty for dying is nothing really, so don't freak out as soon as you get killed in this mode.
  • The ammo in your machine guns and handguns will be restored to the maximum when you respawn, although I don't really suggest using these weapons in the first place because you are going for quick combos here, not melee kills, so you want to use something strong like a sniper or magnum or shotgun that allows you to kill the enemy instantly without letting some other player steal your kill.
  • Always open the chests and grab the Combo Bonuses as these will help rack up those points quickly. Worst case scenario, at least your opponents can't take them.
Survivors

The more popular sub-variant of Versus. Survivors is essentially Resident Evil's version of the common Death Match that we have seen in games for decades now. Yes, there's still creatures present in the stage but their amount has been drastically reduced. First thing you will notice in this mode is that the loudouts of all characters have been altered from their Mercenaries mode versions and now all characters only have a handgun or machine gun to start with. And these weapons deal very little damage to players, especially the machine guns.

Now the only way to score points in this mode is to damage/kill the other players. If you kill creatures, you don't get any points! Keep in mind you get points for just damaging a player, you don't even need to kill them but of course the kill will grant the most points. And the other thing you want to keep in mind when you take damage/die, you lose points.
The mode is very much a double edged sword since if you do the damage, you will get points and your opponent will lose points, further increasing the score gap between you. However if it is the other way around and you are being damaged, you will be losing points while the other player gains them, yet again creating a huge score gap.

As you can see, here are the point values for each type of attack.
Now you might wonder where are all the weapons? They are hidden throughout the stage area and also dropped by stage bosses (Executioner Majini, Chainsaw Majini, Gatling Gun Majini, Giant Majini, Reaper) when they die. The bosses appear way more often than normal but have reduced health, about 20% of the normal amount, so they are easy to kill even with a handgun.

Here's the weapons that you can acquire in this mode apart from the starting weapons of each character:
  • Shotgun M3
  • Sniper PSG-1
  • Magnum S&W M500
  • Rocket Launcher (Select Stages only)
  • Grenade Launcher (Select Stages only)
When you die you drop one of the guns in your inventory at random, including your starting guns.

And here's several more things to take note of in no particular order:
  • All ammo for the guns you still have in your inventory after you die will be replenished.
  • Make sure you pick up as many weapons as as you can. This way you won't end up fighting your enemies with a knife.
  • Chests now contain either grenade launcher ammo (for stages with the grenade launcher), health items or explosives.
  • Weapons (except the shotgun, RPG and grenade launcher) have a tendency to miss even if on your screen you are hitting the player and even see blood, the game just does not seem to register the hits sometimes. This is why you need to keep an eye on the top right corner of the screen. Whenever you damage a player, you will see points pop up (screenshot below), use this to tell if you are hitting the player or not.
Team Slayers / Team Survivors

There is not much to comment about the Team variation of either mode as everything is the same except you are fighting 2 on 2, so you always want to stick close to your partner and heal them.

Some tips:
  • Make sure you don't revive your teammate while the other team is standing right next to you as they will end up killing both of you instead of just one.
  • Open the inventory and press the X button to show your partner's inventory so you always know what they have and if they need some ammo.
  • In Survivors if your partner dies, pick up their gun. Better you than the a member of the other team, right?
  • Don't try to take 2 players head on alone unless you have a Rocket Launcher. You might kill one but the other will kill you just as quickly, so better wait for your partner to rejoin you after they respawn.
  • And last but definitely not least: don't just run around alone, always stick with your partner, this is a team mode after all.
Achievements
There's a total of 10 achievements that you can unlock in Versus and its sub-modes. I am not gonna comment anything because there isn't really anything specific on each one of them to as the achievements are straight forward and don't require any particular strategy to achieve but they do require a lot of time. However if you follow the tips in this guide you should be quite capable of achieving them all.
You don't even need to try to get the 2nd-5th achievements, they will come by themselves if you get the 30 wins in each mode and so will the 100 melee kills. Just make sure you run up and melee an enemy instead of shooting when they are bleeding out, this is what you should be doing either way since melee kills on players grant more points than if you kill them in any other way.

Well I can tell you this "Discarding" is how you get removed/kicked from peoples sessions.
So I'd reframe from doing that.

Happy Gaming (:

There are no rules because Session is normally hosted by a player, not by Capcom. So they don't know if you playing bad and .etc

Um...you can play however you want, there are no rules, weapon discarding is one way to win, so is throwing grenades....

Ya agree with you.!

Thanks! I was considering doing that but to be honest, not mentioning them will keep more people from doing them than someone simply writing: "Don't do this *insert list here*". Simply put, if you don't know it, you can't do it, right?
Besides, almost everything about this mode is broken anyway. I just put up this guide for people to get an understanding of how it works without instantly getting an RPG in your face and yelling "HAX!1!1one!!"
In the end there is no such thing as rules and you can't expect people in a public match to follow them. In a private match with people you know, you can agree on rules but in public someone might want to play the game as it is made by the developers, with no restrictions.
