[Update 12/2017: Fixing stuff and editing sections to lower word count.]

100% Hunters: The 5 broken achievements have officially been removed from Steam, so now it's finally possible to 100% the game!

All cutscenes, HOGs/FROGs, and major puzzles can be replayed via the Extras Menu. Bonus scenes and puzzles unlock as you play, so check back periodically. Solutions to bonus puzzles are in the last section.

Collectibles
Buddha statuettes: 21 in total, found exclusively in HOGs/FROGs. Available at any time via the Extras Menu. Marked in images by a contrasting color.
Secret Letters: 14 in total, almost all are tied directly to gameplay. If you miss one, you can't go back for it in your current game.

I distinguish between HOGs and FROGs because some scene backgrounds are used twice.

You can swap between word list and silhouette modes via the Buddha silhouette in the left corner, but once you start finding objects you are locked into that mode. For HOGs with 2 modes, both lists are combined in the solutions, separated by color.

Puzzle difficulty levels are combined to keep image count low.

This beast is long. Ctrl+F is your friend.

Take the newspaper by the door (+1 journal).
Move the mirror aside and take part of a statue.

Zoom in on the motorbike and poke the gecko so it skitters into the hole.
Use the chocolate bar to distract the gecko and grab it while it's eating.

Return to the Garden and use the lantern to light up the room.

Dragon Urn
Slide the ball till you see a button, press it, repeat for a second button.
Take the note and a hexagonal mirror.

Go to the Manor, use the hexagonal mirror in the cabinet for a FROG (Fragmented Object Game).
FROG: Cabinet Scene
Click the door once to open it.
Make sure to collect the Buddha statuette. (It will not interrupt an accuracy streak.)
Take the bear-shaped key to end the puzzle. The timer will continue to run until you do.

Use the key on the door in the Corridor and enter the Trophy Room.
Open the trunk in front of the lion and move the objects to reveal a gold box tied with twine.
Take the pair of scissors from the tiger and use them on the twine ("1/2 of a fishing line")
Take the message tablet from the box. It's not essential to read these poem/story fragments, but they help explain the overarching story/plot.

Take the flower-shaped soap bar from the green cabinet.
Click the darkened back wall (+1 journal).

Return to the Bedroom, open the gift, and place your soap bar in the empty spot.
Soap Matching
Match 8 sets of flowers. The layout changes every time, but it may help to unfocus/squint your eyes to see colors instead of details.
ACHIEVEMENT OPPORTUNITY: Get 4 matches in a row to unlock "Soap Master" (removed from Steam). If you miss it, you can try again in the Extras Menu.
Take the note and flashlight.

Return to the Trophy Room and use the flashlight on the wall to trigger a FROG.
FROG: Trophy Room
Again, remember to collect the Buddha statuette.
Take the half of a painting.

Exit to the Corridor, look at the painting (+1 journal), then add your half to complete it.
Speak to Deveij to get part of a map and a bit more of the story.
Achievement Note: If you're going for "Let's Make A Movie", let the whole thing run. If you prefer to skip, it you can replay it later from your notebook, but that will not count for the achievement.

Look behind the curtains to find a torn map.
Use the gecko to fetch a curtain sash from the column by the door.
Use the curtain sash on the window, then place your part of a map to start a puzzle.

Take the green emerald (1 of 5) from the stairs and the message tablet on the far left.

Take the green emerald (2 of 5) above the elephant statue.

You can check out the manhole cover, but you need 5 emeralds and a dragon frame to open it.

Take the dragon statuette.
Return to Chedi and use the dragon statuette on the Library doors.

Puzzle: Animal Statuettes
Objective: Rearrange the statuettes so they surround their images.
Click the center of a ring to rotate it. Positions change every game, so there's no single list of moves.
Adventurer difficulty scrambles the statues a bit more, and Expert has 4 per ring instead of 3.

Enter the Library.
Take the wooden sign from the table, the Kama Sutra card from the stepladder, and the message tablet and half of a key from the bookshelves.
Take the dragon statue from the table and click it to start a mini-puzzle.

Return to the Entrance and use the key in two pieces to unlock the main building.
Enter the Royal Pantheon.
Look at the box (+1 journal) and take the butterfly net. Use it to catch the firefly (+1 journal).
Take the torn drawing of Ganesh under the rug and use your flashlight at the corner to find a key with an emerald.
Take the message tablet at the top left.

Return to the Entrance and catch the second firefly between the lampposts. The third is in the Library, and the last in the Underground Passage.
Return to the Royal Pantheon and drag the 4 insects into the box to start a puzzle.

Puzzle: Firefly Box
Use the 4 insects to light up every dot on the board.
There are 3 stages (#3 is Expert Mode only), and the solution is always the same:

Take the note and old explosive.
The following projection cutscene unlocks "Cinematographer" (not working on Steam).

Take the piece of old cloth next to the box, and exit the building.
Go to the Statues and use the key with an emerald on the second door.
Enter the Temple (the compass calls it "Emerald Buddha").
Take the monkey-shaped orchid, message tablet, and screwdriver on the right.
Use the shiny cloth on the left altar to receive a gold lighter.

Return to the Library and use the piece of old cloth to clean the dusty area above the wax monk.
Puzzle: Jungle Relief

Take the rest of the safe combination.

Return to the Royal Pantheon and use the screwdriver on the folding screen.
Move the screen to reveal a safe. The combination will show automatically.

Return to the Underground Passage and use the dynamite, fuse, and lighter to blow up the far wall. (If you're confused after the cutscene, read the corresponding journal entry.)
Take the heavy stone (1 of 6) and library sign piece, and head through the hole in the wall to start the next chapter.

Go to the Statues for the final gold leaf (4 of 4).
Return to the orange patch on the Golden Buddha and use the 4 gold leaves to start the puzzle.
Puzzle: Gold Leaves
Arrange the gold leaves to complete the patch. Most of the pieces are close to their spots.
Adventurer Mode moves the pieces a bit further from where they belong. There is no Expert Mode.
Take the mini Chedi tower.

Return to the Library and place the mini Chedi tower in the wax monk's hand to open the door.
Enter the Angkor Wat Replica room.
Take the library sign piece by the left corner and the replica instructions against the stairs.
Send the gecko into the closest archway to retrieve a spark plug.

IMPORTANT: The piece of paper on the sidecar dashboard is Secret Letter #3, and this is your ONLY chance to grab it. Once you trigger the travel cutscene, there's no going back.

Word List Extras: Blue
Take the bottle of rubbing alcohol.
Return to the Jungle Entrance and speak with the old monk for a puzzle.

Puzzle: Food Chain
Reposition the tiles so no prey is touching its predator.
IMPORTANT: Between the boards on the left is Secret Letter #4. This is your only chance to grab it. It will not be there if you play the puzzle from the menu, and it's the easiest to miss in the whole game.
There are a few solutions, but here's the one I used:
Take the pair of tweezers.

Go back into the baby elephant in the Jungle, use the tweezers, rubbing alcohol, flower, and bandage to fix it up, then ride the mother elephant to Buddha's Footprint.

Top left: arm and elbow 1x each
Top right: arm and elbow 2x each
Bottom left: arm 2x
Bottom right: elbow 1x
Take the golden hand.

Head to the Golden Buddha's feet. At the top of the nearest column, there's a section that doesn't match. Click it to open a sliding panel. Drag the golden hand onto the ancient glass to swap them.

Return to Buddha's Footprint, use the ancient glass on the pool of water, and give the magic healing water to Deveij.

Exit the Jungle and speak to the old monk for a Jataka card (1 of 5).
Use the flashlight on the ground to reveal another Jataka card (2 of 5).

Go into the Jungle and look at the monkey (+1 journal). You need to distract him, so exit the Jungle, zoom in on the gongs, and dip the green banana in the cooking oil.
Go back and give the yellow banana to the monkey to get the Jataka card (3 of 5).
The last 2 Jataka cards are at Buddha's Footprint in the mud (4 of 5) and left foreground (5 of 5).

Go back to Buddha's Footprint and use the large muddy object on the pool of water to reveal a beautiful golden Buddha.

Go to the Jungle Entrance and place the beautiful golden Buddha into the slot in the temple door to begin the next chapter.

You can undo steps with the button or by dragging backward. There are 2 stages, always the same:

Use the long hook to retrieve the gold helmet from the lava.

Zoom in on the other painting. Drag it down the rails to reveal a hole. Take the gold armband.

Click the gate again to add a journal entry. ("Journalist" will probably unlock around this point.)

Ritual Recipe Puzzle
Follow the instructions to brew the potion and use it correctly.
NOTE 1: Wait for the animation of each step to finish before you move the next item (e.g. wait for the spoon to reappear next to the candle). If you click too soon, it won't register and will lower your accuracy score.
NOTE 2: If you have the recipe book open and exit the puzzle before finishing, when you resume the book will be closed (for good) and you must pick up where you left off.

Instructions:
  1. Strike the match and light the wood under the cauldron.
  2. Drag a red pile into the bowl. Use the grinder and dump the powder in the cauldron. Repeat.
  3. Use the second match (top shelf) to light the candle. Dip the spoon (above the candle) into the wax. Empty the wax into the cauldron. Repeat.

  5. Use the tweezers (middle shelf) on the old doll's hair. Toss it into the cauldron. Repeat twice.
  6. Drag the wooden ladle (top right shelf) into the cauldron. Drag it in circles to stir the brew.
  7. Dip the eyedropper in the brew. Use it on the shrunken head. Repeat.

Return to the Jungle Entrance.
Click the door of the temple to start the final puzzle.

Final Door Game
Objective: Break the bricks as they fall. Don't let them hit the bottom, or you have to start over.
What to do: First drag the Buddha door up. It falls back down, and then a wall of "8"-shaped bricks starts to descend. The rate they fall speeds up as you go.
It's important to pay attention and only click bricks that are not "locked in". Since they're "8"-shaped, a vertical one can be stuck between two others. Clicking a locked-in brick adds a time/drop penalty. If you get enough accurate clicks in a row you start a combo, which starts to break chunks of bricks at a time. Clicking a locked-in brick breaks the combo. The maximum is 98 at 100%. Higher difficulty modes raise the penalties and drop speed.

ACHIEVEMENT OPPORTUNITY:
1) "Brick walls are there for a reason" - start the game and just let the bricks drop to the bottom. Repeat 9 more times.
2) "Super Combo" - when you start making combos, try to get 10 in a row. It's easier than you think.

After you beat the door game, head inside the temple to trigger the endgame cutscene.

Mandala Box Puzzle
I went with an an image solution for this because it's easier to show than type up. A video would of course be best, but making one is not high on my priority list. If a good video already exists or someone else wants to make one, I'll gladly link to it.

Objective: Using the Buddha head, move the boxes into place to trap the demon.
What to do: Click the adjacent square where you want the Buddha head to move. Push the boxes around obstacles to trap the demon. Be careful not to block yourself in.

The directions are a bit complex, but once you get the idea it shouldn't be too hard (I hope).

Lines represent the path the Buddha head needs to take.
Circles are the starting points for each move.
Colored boxes indicate the overall movement of the box itself.

I added a grid overlay to show exactly which squares the Buddha head is moving through.
Some paths cross themselves in multiple places, but I tried to make it as clear as possible.

Level 4 is Expert Mode only.

Reward: the rooster zodiac sign (12).

Return to the Towers and the Telescope Room (you don't need the lens to get inside).
Click on that clock you've been carrying around to start a mini-puzzle.

Clock Puzzle
Objective: Set the clock to the correct time.
What to do: Use the lens and rotate the clock to see the back and bottom sides at the same time.
The glowing symbols show the minute hand on 2, hour hand on 7.
Rotate to the front and set the time to 7:10.
The center pops out. Drag it out all the way and take the object from the tube.

Reward: a glowing chalk.

Activate the lens and use the glowing chalk on the wall to complete the zodiac signs.

Exit the room. Zoom in on the telescope and click the closed aperture.
Press the top right and bottom right buttons to light up all 6 and open the aperture.

Head back inside the Telescope Room.
Click the lens on the body of the telescope to start a puzzle.

Zodiac Telescope Puzzle
Objective: Complete the zodiac images. Novice has 6, Adventurer 8, and Expert all 12.
What to do: Rotate the pieces and you'll see a picture start to form. Keep nudging/rotating until the glowing lines match up. The pieces only match perfectly at one viewing angle, but the image can be completed upside-down (it will rotate itself when complete). If you can't seem to get lines to match up exactly, try flipping it so the image is mirrored.

If you're going for a high score, there's a trick to save a lot of time and headaches:
  • Play through each mode (or just Expert to get all 12 at once) a few times. Memorize not just the order of the animals, but what direction the animal is facing when the level is complete. That way all you need to do is find a recognizable body part, then flip the whole thing to face the right direction. (If upside-down, the animal would need to face the opposite way.) Fitting the rest together from there is a snap.
For the lazy, here's a simple list:
Rat (right), Bull (left), Rabbit (left), Wolf (right), Horse (left), Tiger (right)
Monkey (left), Goat (right), Rooster (left), Pig (left), Snake (left), Dragon (left)

Reward: the signs are now projected.

Exit the room and speak to "Deveij" to get a new objective.
(Pedant moment: "wherefore art thou" means "why are you", not "where are you". :p)
Pick up the door handle.

Go to the Library.
Zoom in on the stepladder and attach the door handle.
Click the handle 4 times to open 4 compartments (only 1 and 4 have items).
Take the empty flask and a powerful lens.

Return to the telescope and place the powerful lens in the hole.
Go inside the Telescope Room and click the eyepiece to start a puzzle.

Find Melissa
Objective: Find Melissa on her bike and project the signs her way.
What to do: Use the lever to zoom (3 settings), and drag the view around until you see an orange glow (Melissa's bike). Click it and you're done.

It took me a long time to beat the high score for this one. I haven't found a trick to it. Her starting location seems to be random (correct me if I'm wrong), so just pick a zoom level (or flip between them), scan the edges, and hope you're lucky.

Reward: Converging cutscenes - the signs are projected at Melissa, and her earlier cutscene now makes sense.

Return to the Wat Arun Statues.
Click the Tuk-Tuk to start a HOG.

Use your Vajra on the symbol and drag open the drawer.
Take the map of Phanom Rung and another electric wire.

Go back to the Tuk-Tuk.
Use the electric wires to complete the circuit.

Use the lens to see the fingerprints again.
They're actually buttons. Press them in this order:
3 | 5
4 | 2
1 | 6
The panel opens and starts a puzzle.

Tuk-Tuk Gear Puzzle
Objective: Connect belts to the gears so the wheels turn in the direction of the arrows.
What to do: Drag from one gear to another to extend a belt. The only limitation is that a gear can have no more than one belt attached to it.

Reward: the engine can start now.

Turn the key to start the CE endgame cutscene.

Objective: Rotate the rings so the gaps all face the wall.
What to do: Click the 8 holes to turn them with a screwdriver. Each rotates 2 rings in different directions.

Solution: (T = top, B = bottom)
Novice & Adventurer: T1x3, T2x2, T4x2, B2x1, B3x1
Expert: T1x4, T3x2, T4x4, B1x1, B2x1, B3x1

Shape Arranging
Objective: Arrange the shapes in the 3 squares so they match the center patterns.
What to do: Click the holes to rotate the outer shapes and swap them between adjacent squares. It's a bit like the animal statuette puzzle in Chapter 2. Unfortunately also like that puzzle, the layout always changes, so there's no single list of steps.
Adventurer difficulty shuffles the shapes a little more.

Bonus HOGs
There are two kinds in this list:
1. Scenes that don't appear in game
2. HOGs that were FROGs in the game
The rest are covered in the walkthrough and won't be repeated here.

In the order they're found in the menu:

Suitcase Pairs
The torn page is a Secret Letter, and one of the Buddha statuettes is in the giftbox.

Fountain Scene
Silhouette Mode: Yellow/Green
Word List Extras: Pink

Hanging Decorations Scene
Silhouette Mode: Blue/Green
Word List Extras: Pink
Freeing the birds counts as 2 animals for the "Animal Whisperer" achievement.

The following were FROGs in game. They only have a word list mode.

Cabinet Scene

Woodshop Scene

Bonsai Table Scene

Suitcase Scene

Trophy Room Scene

Spirit House Scene

Final Notes
I hope you found this guide useful. I looked for one like it when I started playing, but whatever I came across was incomplete and hard to follow. I'm aware there's a "Strategy Guide" in the game itself, but opening it crashed the game for me (and many others) far too often to be of any use. It also wasn't very detailed from what I did manage to see. So I decided to create my own - both out of frustration at the lack of clear instructions out there, and because I wanted to help others in the same position.

I'll be happy to answer questions or clarify things if needed. (Hell, I've sunk enough hours into the game and puzzles to know it backwards by now.) And as I said at the start, if you find any errors in the text or images, let me know and I'll fix 'em.

Have fun!

Note: "The Shape Arranging" puzzle you can cheat to beat the best time for Adventure mode. Use the "HELP"button on the bottom right. it should auto rearrange everything to allow you to finish off on the right side of the puzzle easier. Same will happen on Novice mode. No penalty.

Anyone Confused where the "last stone" is for Chapter 4. When you scroll left to "grab shoulder armor". Click the bottom left area of the screen where the hill and rocks are at in front of your face. The "last rock" is sitting on top.

You may want to update this info. I got lost and confused.
"Use the gecko to fetch a curtain sash from the column by the door."

"Its the hole of the left column of the door to your bedroom."

If anyone has the same problems with the last 2 achievements: "just call me ace" & "the omniscient one". When beating all the best score take care that there are different difficulties and there are 2 different modes in the HOG's, text and silhouette. On the omniscient one, take care you actually watch the cutscenes and listen to the all the music beginning from end. The progress bar doesn't always perfectly match your progress.

Thank you for this great guide! :good:

Just a heads-up, the Strategy Guide link is now dead, not that it was much use anyway...

For the Woodshop scene (In the Extras), I make no misclicks and cannot attain higher than 94%. I already found the Buddha, so he/it is not present. There are 15 steps not counting the Buddha. 15/16 is 94% so this HOG in the Extras is BUGGED. Maybe in the game it will work?

This is an amazing guide, thank you so much! I thoroughly enjoyed this game, but your guide helped me find a couple of the weirder connections (i.e., "what now?") and that made things so much better. :tgrin: PS Thank you for having a written guide instead of a video.

Great guide, once again :)
If it wasn't for this, I would have abandoned this game, since I find it too illogic and very confused. It's a shame because it's quite good technically, and with lots of stuff to do.

Thanks!

you can cheese the HOGs during the main story by exiting out of them and then reentering which resets time, but not progress. don't leave a 'combination' hidden object until last though, this seems to sometimes make it no register on reentry and then you have to skip

Thanks for the guide! By now it's also possible to get "Professor X" outside of adventure mode.
