Game Crash in Embers Of Hrafnborg
By Hans Brotmeister
In the current version of Rune Classic there is a gamebreaking bug in the second to last level: Embers Of Hrafnborg. This bug leads to an instant crash. Fortunately it can be avoided easily if you know how.

Introduction
In the current version of Rune Classic there is a bug that is only present on a certain part of the second to last level: Embers Of Hrafnborg. This bug will cause a crash as soon as a cutscene plays. While I hope that this problem will be adressed in a later patch for the time being I've put up this guide to show you how to avoid the bug.

Note: This bug can also occur when playing levels that aren't part of the Steam release, for example levels of the Rune Extended mod. If that happens the bug can be circumvented in the exact same way.
What to do
From the point on where you reach this bridge

entering a cutscene will make the game crash. A cutscene will play when you fall into the chasm. While this can be avoided there is a point right after the bridge where a cutscene will play regardless.

Luckily you can avoid the crash upon entering a cutscene by setting your sound volume to zero.

After you make it past the vines and enter the cave seen here

you can switch your sound back on. There won't be any more cutscenes on this level.

Have fun finishing the game.

Ah, well...
I found on GOG a thread with the location I was thinking of. Apparently it's only a problem with Rune Extended.

Does is only happen when you fall into a chasm? I don't remember encountering that problem.

There's another crash with the same solution somewhere early-ish in the game too. I can't remember where exactly, but it was around Hel and the zombies/skeletons that could only be quickly killed by beheading them. More specifically, it was in an area where they were hiding behind doors that opened when the player gets near them.
