The scrap recovery arm is the best augment by far. It inevitably pays itself back and even lets you mine asteroids for scrap pretty often.

Sometimes you can kill the enemy crew just by shooting at it. Place a crewmember in the camera room to see enemy crew location and health.
And of course pause a lot in combat.
Also, for the guide I suggest you mention that there are events that hint that you can lose a crew member. You should not take a risk like that unless you have a replacement for everyone. The most prominent of those is of course the alien spiders. It is also the least profitable. I actually think "giant alien spiders are no joke" is a joke because you only should fight them if in a desperate need of missiles.
