The Landwehr Canal DLC Achievements Walkthrough

This guide shows you how to get the Watchmen and You were only supposed to... achievements for the Landwehr Canal DLC mission.

Starting the mission

To access the Landwehr Canal DLC mission, go to Singleplayer-->Challenges-->DLC and select it.
To most easily unlock the achievements play the mission on Cadet difficulty.
Achievements description:

On the Loadout screen make sure you have the Welroad pistol selected, and a sniper rifle you are comfortable with. Landmines, Trip mines and Dynamite won't be used so equip more grenades instead.

Be as stealthy as possible, using the Welroad pistol for close range kills and fire your sniper rifle while masked by loud sounds (the indication appears on upper right corner of your screen).
Try to kill everyone without drawing attention to yourself.

Walkthrough map

The following image shows the path to take to get both achievements on the same run.
Red Circles: Sniper locations
Green Player Markers: Locations from where you shoot at the snipers.
Yellow X: Stationary target locations that you might miss and get spotted.
White X : Checkpoints
Red Tagged Enemy: 1 of 3 Generals you will kill. DO NOT KILL HIM EARLY!

Notice that after the 2nd Checkpoint, there isn't one until all 3 commanders have appeared.

Patrolling units aren't displayed on the map, you will have to watch out for them and take them out without making noise.

Note: when you do the 1st objective: Get eyes on the area where the meeting will take place, a 5 minute timer will start counting down for the other 2 Generals to appear. Following the path on the map, that can happen at 2 points.
The first is when you are going for the 2nd sniper. It is very important that you stay inside the house and try to kill the sniper form there, do NOT go to the edge close to the road. It happened to me (see timer in Sniper 3 location picture below), simply restart checpoint.
The second will happen when you see the 5th sniper. That's when you want it to happen.

Note: the 2nd sniper isn't on screen because i took the screenshot after i shot him.
The 2nd sniper may spot you if you take your time, so you need to time your positioning with the sound masking to get him and avoid detection.

After killing the 5th Sniper, you will get the achievement.

You were only supposed to...

After killing the 5th sniper follow the path as seen on the walkthrough map and walk up the rubble to the upper floor and wait where the following picture shows.
You might want to pass the time, by tagging the enemies on the street below, but do not draw attention to yourself.
Important: DO NOT SHOOT AT THE GENERAL in the picture while waiting for the timer to reach 0, because it will mess with the achievement, and you will have to restart the checkpoint, or worse the entire mission.


After the timer ends, the other 2 Generals will arrive by car. Wait for them to enter the house before you go down the hole on the screenshot above and plant the explosive. They might take some time to do so, so have patience. After they enter the room, plant the bomb wait for it to go off and the achievement is yours.

Its so easy, that I wondered if it was a exploit/glitch :-P
But the devs have had plenty of time to fix it, they haven't.

Decent guide, but you have the location of the 2nd sniper wrongly presented; judging from your map he should be outside, when he's actually inside the middle building with the dome.
Of course judging from your text and pictures, he's obviously inside a building, but combined with the map error, its slightly confusing.

Also, instead of risking to be spotted by the 2nd sniper from the house where the 1st sniper is, there is actually a much easier way to kill him:
right at the start, after you have taken out or snuck past the guards on your level, head to the windows on your left (from your start position), from there you can actually see the 2nd sniper clearly, easy peasy! :)
(look for the broken glass dome, he's underneath it)
