No mate, the explanation isn't "too complicated", the two explanations are in direct conflict.
ten thousand times more complicated than it needs to be. "CHIM" is just every way a player can affect the world from the outside via modding tools or even things as basic as saving and loading.
ten thousand times simpler than I could explain it. I remember seeing a theory that CHIM was the same as the player- pc relationship. Console commands and mods being the reality control, the PC being Anu (the Dreamer), etc.
Very interesting, but I like this nonetheless.
