Intro

Many have attempted and failed at making a simple catapult in Besieged. Odds are, you have failed too. Fail no more my fellow besieger! I have found the secrets of making functional catapults which can hurl bombs at your enemies while staying out of danger! After reading this guide, I hope you can make bigger and better catapults.

Building the Catapult

First, things first. Building the base of your catapult. You will want to start with a box/square that is 9 small wooden blocks by 9 small wooden blocks (9x9).

Next, you'll want to add some steering hinges on the sides of your base. I did 2 because this allows for more effective steering (like a car). Putting 4 steering hinges is a matter of personal preference. Try both out and see which best suits you. Put 1 small wooden block on the side back corner.

Now you can add your wheels. You can choose to set your base down on the ground using the button with the arrow pointing down.

Add a suspension block on the back middle block. This block serves as a cushion for your bomb and cradle so it doesn't blow up in your face.
Player "The Glitch ARMY" said that they put an additional piston where the suspension is placed. You can do the same thing but with a wooden block underneath the piston. This would slightly reduce your the range of your catapult.
Now add a pole that is 8 small wooden blocks tall on the front-most 2 corners. Add a hinge on top of the front middle block. Feel free to brace the topside of your base. Make sure your braces don't go through your hinge or suspension.

Connect the tops of the 2 poles with wooden blocks. On top of the hinge, add 3 small wooden blocks. You can add 2 more small wooden blocks on the front of the 3 small wooden blocks you just added. These 2 small wooden blocks serve no purpose and are purely aesthetic.

Now you can build the arm of your catapult. Extend the back part of your arm until it is 2 small wooden blocks past the back of your base. You can make your arm longer but this was the length that i found most effective.

Now that you have your arm, you can add your holder and properly brace everything. Don't forget to brace the of your arm! Bracing the underside of the arm is not required but you can do it if it makes you feel better.

Now you can add a bomb and the most crucial part of your catapult.... Springs. You need to add 2 springs on the 2nd small wooden block closest to the holder. Connect each spring to one of the tops of the backside of your 2 wooden poles you constructed earlier.

You can also add armor plates on the front to prevent specific enemies from lighting you on fire. The enemies would hit your armor plates, which would cause the heat to dissipate and keep your catapult intact. View the topmost photo for an example. It is a bit of an overkill but it is effective and it looks cool.

Using your Newly Build Catapult

Using this catapult is actually quite simple. You use the arrow keys to move and the left and right arrow keys to turn your wheels. To fire your catapult, just press and hold the "L" key. Holding this down will launch your projectile further. Just lightly tapping the "L" key will launch it out a small distance. Try out some distances to get a feel for the control. This is a fairly long range catapult so think twice before holding down the "L" key.

WARNING!!!
If you don't wait a second or 2 after pressing the start button, your bomb will explode because your arm will jerk up and hit it with a force which will cause the explosion. For your own safety, wait a second.
