The Bomb DLC: The Forest

A guide for the Forest heist. Everything you need to know, from pre-planning, to Death wish (DW) tips to achievements.

1. Introduction

The Forest heist is one of the 2 new heists* available in the Bomb DLC (You have to pay to get the DLC).


The DLC also introduces a new contract broker called The Butcher, a new pistol called the Leo and give you access to 4 new masks and patterns if you complete the related achievements.



*Note that I haven't tried the Dock yet and since I got a lot of stuff to cover I'll make another guide later for that heist.*

2. Pre-planning

Most players should be familiar with pre-planning by now but for the new ones, just like the name says, it's the part where you make your plan and buy stuff to help you succeed.

Note that the Forest is a loud-only heist.

The first thing that may interest you is the Escape plan:



.The Boat escape is the basic escape and it is related to an achievement.
.The Plane escape is also related to an achievement.
.The Helicopter escape isn't related to any achievement but the chopper will land in the middle of the action area so on DW it can be interesting but it's not a must.


The second interesting section is Backup:




.IlIJA the Sniper is self explanatory. I can't say he is worth getting it in this heist.
.Ace pilot/Better pump is an alternate option to using the River pump (basic one). I tried it and I may be a bit faster but the main thing is the challenge difference. Where using the river pump will give you a continous but longer action, using the Pilot (helicopter) pump will have you wait for it to get there, then at some point it will leave to refill and come back. So the action may be faster but you have to wait for it to move in and out. Also note that if you buy this you won't be able to do the Pump it up achievement.
.Demolition Expert is explained below.





As seen above, with Demolition expert, you can invest to search specific wagons with the vault containing the bomb.

The next section is Additional mission equipment:



.Ladder will give you a bag with a ladder to help you get to the doors of the wagons that landed on their side after the explosion. Note that you don't always need a ladder to climb on the wagons and that you can find one locked to a wagon if you spend some time looking around. This will only save you some time.
.Crowbar will give you one but just like it is the case with the ladder, you can find one by looking around. It's simply to save you some time.


Hacking doesn't have much:



.Silent Alarm 30sec. Delay is pretty much self-explanatory. It can be interesting on DW.



There is also a Dead drops section wich gives you access to the Ammo bags, Med bags & Grenade cases.

3. The Heist

Your goal: Find & recover the bomb.

Where: It's in a vault built within a wagon from the train you derailed.

How: Keep reading!

Here's your view when you spawn:


If you do a 180 degrees turn this is what you see:

If you follow that path you will reach the zipline you will use to get the bomb out and the escape zone if you have the Boat escape.


Once you bagged the bomb, the zipline will be activated and once you sent all 4 bags (yes, the bomb comes in 4 pieces/bags) the escape zone will appear near it. I know it's behind your spawn but at that point in the heist cops will rappel down in the path and snipers will be on the left cliff (near the boat) targeting the zipline so be careful and expect a good fight to get out. But that's at the end of the heist.


Back to the normal procedure, after a few steps you will se a tree in front of you with stuff underneath it:


Note that in the picture I already took the ladder bag and the crowbar is there because I got both in pre-planning. If you don't buy those the only thing you will see is the case holding the thermite. You will only need 1. So take the other for fun or leave it there.

After a few more steps you will see a road with a car and a couple standing outside:



You can tie them to gain some time or leave them and keep running forward towards the wagons.

Once you see the wagons split up and start opening the sliding doors. That's what you want to see:

If you invested in the Demolition expert in pre-planning you will have an idea wich wagons to search. Now, If you don't see that vault door right away don't panic, keep looking and place drills on all the doors you can. Later you will need C4, so if you drill the doors and open the crates (crowbar) in the regular wagons you can find it before the cops even show up. On DW doing this right away will save you a lot of time & trouble.


Once you found the vault wagon you will be asked to set the thermite on the roof. To reach it you can either use the environment and jump or use a ladder! If you got the ladder from the pre-planning just throw it where shown and climb.




Note that you can deploy a ladder, repack it, move to another spot and deploy it again. Now if you haven't bought the ladder in pre-planning and you can't jump on the top of the wagon you need to find one. Split up and look at both ends of every wagon. Soon you should see one:

It can be found on wagons that fell on their side or still standing up, not just in the position show above. So pick the locks or saw them and get your ladder!

Get on the top of the wagons, set the thermite and wait. Once it's done you will have fill the wagon with water. If you have bought the Ace pilot/faster pump in pre-planning you will wait until the helicopter gets there, then the hose will roll down and you will connect it to the wagon. At some point the helicopter will leave for a refill and come back. Sometimes the hose disconnects from the wagon so you will have climb on it and reconnect that hose.

If you haven't invested in the Ace pilot/faster pump you will use the river pump (basic one). Connect the 4 sections that run from the pump to the top of the wagon then activate the pump. The cops will try to disconnect the hose so you have to cover it or wait until it's safe to reconnect it depending on the difficulty you're playing on. Note that the hose length will vary depending on how far the vault wagon is from the pump. The longer, the more you have to cover.






Once the vault wagon is full, no matter how you filled it up, you will have to blow it open with C4.
If you already have the C4, great, otherwise open all the doors you can and set the drills. Once the drilling is done you will need a crowbar to open the crates. If you got one from pre-planning you may have done this already or now will be the time to use it.

If you haven't bought it don't worry, there is a crate full of them. Look at the 2 screenshots below to see where it is. it's always at the same spot, no matter the difficulty. In the first screenshot it is on the right of the hammer of my pistol.



Note that the crowbars are available from that crate as soon as you get there after you started the heist.

Now that you have your crowbar(s), open the crates found in the regular wagons. There is 2 per door. The C4 is a yellow bag (not shown in the screenshot) you will see once you open the right crate.


Note that on higher difficulties like OVK or DW the regular wagons may not be perfect but they provide enough cover to hide in them while waiting to complete a part of the heist before the vault wagon is open.

Back to the procedure you have to set the C4 on top of the vault then wait for it to blow it open.
Once it's done get in there, find the crate holding the bomb and bag the 4 parts.



I'm not saying it won't change but as of right now, the moment I'm writting this guide, the cops don't climb in nor drop in the vault wagon. Not even cloakers, they will stand on the roof but won't go inside. This is the safest place to hide/wait on higher difficulties.

Once the fourth part is bagged you will be given instructions about your escape depending on wich one you have. Get the bags there and enjoy your payday!

The way I pulled it off on DW ?

Rushed to open the wagons, drilled (drill skills help) to the get the C4 quick (did it before the cops showed up), placed the thermite in a blink of an eye. Then we plugged the hoses and started the river pump. Waited inside the normal wagons, behind the center grills of the doorway. The person with highest evasion went out to reconnect the hose. Then we placed the C4, bagged the bomb and waited inside the vault for the assault to end. Next we rushed to the boat escape, sent the bomb by zipline and we made it.




**The next 3 achievements can be done on any difficulties, so make your life easier and go for them on normal difficulty!**

Beaver Team
In the Bomb: Forest heist, cut down all trees within 5 seconds during the plane escape. Unlocks the "Butcher From Hell" mask, "Meat" material and "Pleter" pattern.


How ?

First, you need the Plane escape, found in Escape plan, in pre-planning.
Second, you need a mix of shaped charges & OVE9000 saws (enforcer saw). The Chainsaw is optional and only becomes available once it's time to escape.

The moment the heist start you can do it and it will be unlocked right away if you succeed, so restart and try as many times as you need.

Once the heist starts move to the road then turn right and follow it until you reach a bridge. If you take a look at the trees you will see some have those symbols:

If you look around you will find all 5:


They are indicated in the picture because it was time to escape, they won't be if you do it right off the bat but it will always be the same trees so you'll know.

The shaped charges work, the OVE9000 work and the chainsaw work on them. The chainsaw can be found behind the logs at that spot (always the same):


Since you have a 5 seconds time frame to make it happen you have to know the time it takes each item to get a tree down. Shaped charges, with skills to place them faster, about 9 seconds from the moment you begin placing it to the moment the tree comes down. The Chainsaw takes about 2-3 secs and the OVE9000 about 1 sec maximum. I did it with charges placed simultaneously on the trees that are the fursthest from the bridge then having 2 players with OVE9000 saws taking care of their trees as the 9 secs from the charges was ending.


Pump It Up
In the Bomb: Forest heist, do not let the cops disconnect the water hose while you are using the river water pump. Unlocks the "Tech Lion" mask, "Marble Rock" material and "Lion Game Lion" pattern.

How ?

Easiest to pull off. First, don't buy the Ace pilot/fast pump asset in pre-planning so you will get the river pump by default. Second, get sentries and place them along the hose and cover the gaps so the cops don't diconnect the hose. Wait until the vault is filled and you got it. On normal it's a joke.


Oppressor
Finish the Bomb: Forest heist without letting any civilian flee or die, having at least five civilians in the heist, while escaping with the boat. Unlocks "The Doctor" mask, "Plywood" material and "Caduceus" pattern.

How ?

Here is what you need, cable ties, upgraded sentries (maybe not double but least be able to recharge the ammo), the Silent alarm 30s. delay asset from Hacking & Boat escape (default escape) in pre-planning.

Remember the couple next to the car as you go down the cliff ?

That makes 2, place a sentry on top of the car and go look for workers and move them to the car once they're tied.



Go on with the heist and drop by to refill your sentry with ammo every once in awhile. On normal difficulty it can easily handle the cops as long as it has ammo.

Once you got the bomb, go to the Boat escape, refill your sentry once more and enjoy!

It IS 5 civs,there are 3 workers up the mountain, and the couple by the car. It is VERY painful to manage everyone, so bring them all by the left side of the SUV for safety. I reccomend buying the silent alarm delay so you have time to find them all and hide them, and have at least a 3 man crew so you can alternate between babysitting and objectiving.

I honestly can't remember, it was years ago. The requirements says at least 5 and on normal I think it would be the number or maybe 6.

If you got 2 guys with fully upgraded sentries, it shouldn't be a problem to prevent the cops from getting to them. It's the best I can do.

I haven't played the game in a long time and don,t have it installed, yet you can do that achievement on Normal, so you shouldn't have the need to trade them.

Still, maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, I can't say for sure.

On the Oppressor cheevo,is it possible to trade civs without failing?

@ Rusty, it may indeed be the easiest way. When I made it on DW I was the only one not in suit and not build for dodging. We made it to the boat escape but it was a rough ride.

For DW, is there any other better preplanning than Demolition Expert @ 17-J and 08-T + Helicopter Escape? It's the only way I've been able to do this heist with relative ease. Just gotta get lucky with RNG that the vault is in one of the wagons I mentioned. Plus, the wagon at the top left of the preplanning has a great place to hide.

@ King of Arse , yes, if you have the P lane escape you can go to the location right away and cut down the trees. Yes, during the first objective. If you all the trees fall within a 5 secs you will see the achievement unlocked in a pop-up window. Yes it can be done before the first objective. So, just run to the spot and try.
