Fallen Knight

Character Description
The Fallen Knight brings wisdom and legacy to the battlefield—a veteran of combat, drafted into endless chaos wars that splinter the lands and people of Fahrul.
Bringing high physical stats and a skillset designed to enable huge damage numbers, the Fallen Knight makes the perfect front-runner for the party that lacks a little oomph.

Skills
Charge Attack
Charge Attack enables the Fallen Knight to hold their turn in favour of a more powerful strike, splash damage, and heightened defences. Once selected from the combat menu, players can choose an attack from the currently equipped weapon to charge, ending their turn and charging until the next, after which the Fallen Knight will leap into action, delivering an area of effect version of the selected attack, while receiving Protection/Armor Up.

The Fallen Knight’s respective weapon family, Lances, and their unlockable two-handed sword, Ol’ Faithful, provide them with Protection when Charging. However, when using a melee weapon outside of those selections, they’ll receive Armor Up instead. Ranged weapons do not benefit from Charge Attack.

Knight’s Oath
The Knight’s Oath was sworn upon the kingdom itself, an eternal pledge to keep Fahrul and its people safe. A belief so concrete to the Fallen Knight that when an ally falls to critical health while standing on flanking tiles, they’ll shield them with their very life.

The Fallen Knight receives Protection upon a Knight’s Oath triggering, while providing Decoy on either side of them, giving cover at the expense of the Knight’s safety.

Playstyle tips
The Fallen Knight has the potential to do some of the highest possible physical damage in-game, providing both protection and damage at the expense of the Fallen Knight’s turn order and health, respectively.
  • Take advantage of the battle grid and ample damage that Charge Attack can deliver with its upgraded, large area of effect splash attack.
    • If the enemies you’re targeting are dealt with before you land your attack, fear not, the Fallen Knight will retarget to another primary target.
  • Position yourself optimally by standing between party members, allowing Knight’s Oath to trigger more often.
  • Don’t be afraid to use Focus to ensure your hits land. You’ll get that Focus back, but the two turns you spend whiffing will sour you faster than Hildebrant’s less-than-stellar backyard brews. Also, Omus hates a coward.
  • Try other weapon varieties. Powerful Lances and Ol’ Faithful may be, there are a lot of great potential builds for the Fallen Knight.

Loadout Suggestions
Gear
  • Ol’ Faithful
    • A Vitality-based alternative to the Ol’ Reliable Lance. Comes with Interrupt and Push as attack options.
  • Black Candy
    • Hard to argue against pure damage increase when you’re aiming to destroy your foes.
  • Hammer Of The Stars
    • Unlocked by beating any campaign with the Astronomer in the party. The Hammer Of The Stars is a Vitality-based Hammer, equipped with +1 Focus, plus Confusion, Stun, and Daze Immunity.

Traits
  • Berserker
    • Increases your damage by 20% and halves the number of successful checks needed to achieve maximum damage—at the expense of making every weapon Breakable.
  • Boss Killer
    • A safer alternative to Berserker, allowing you to deal an additional 20% damage to Boss units only.
  • Veteran’s Discount
    • A new Trait that provides cheaper Mercenary rates, perfect if you’re playing in a smaller group and want to take advantage of a Knight’s Oath by protecting your Mercenary allies.

Character Synergies
  • Fortune Teller, Blacksmith, and Berserker
    • As mentioned above, Berserker’s big drawback is breakable weapons; however, you can increase your odds of weapon safety by including a Fortune Teller equipped with Luck for additional Fortune triggers to reroll potentially disastrous attacks.
    • With the Blacksmith equipped with the new Chosen One Trait (Provides an additional 5% skill chance trigger), players have an additional chance to save their Fallen Knight’s weapon with the Blacksmith’s Mend ability, which has a chance to repair any broken weapon in combat.
Voidwalker

Character Description
After spending time lost to the void itself, the Voidwalker has found their way back to their home via the portals that allow the evils of chaos to seep into Fahrul. Their time away in mysterious lands has taught them how to harness the powers of the mind-corrupting nothingness.
Using their Resonator and Rifle, the Voidwalker brings unique skills to help track the foes that once hunted them for what seemed like an eternity.

Critical hits are an essential part of the Voidwalker’s toolkit; we’ll cover that more below.

Resonator
A new mechanic to For The King II, the Resonator levels up separately from the Voidwalker, gaining levels not with experience, but with Critical Hits.
Upon completing a set amount of Crits, the Resonator will notify you of a level, allowing you to hop into your inventory and choose which benefit you’ll receive for this level.
In total, there are three upgrades available; you’ll want to focus on getting those Crits as early as possible to reach the highest potential.

Skills
Voidwalk
Voidwalk gives the eponymous character a chance to teleport while in combat or while exploring the overworld. While inside the void, the Voidwalker can move an extended distance with this ability.

Bounty
Marks an enemy unit randomly in combat, providing a 30% increased critical chance on them until hit by the Voidwalker.

Playstyle Tips
Critical Hits form the basis of the Voidwalker’s skillset, so Adventurers will want to hone in on that. The back row offers the most natural fit for the Voidwalker, but Voidwalk will allow you to make the most of the tiles on your side of the battle grid.
  • The Resonator needs to be fed Critical Hits. Try to equip yourself with Crit Chance gear as soon as possible.
  • Melee weapons are just as viable for the Voidwalker. Their focus on Speed makes Daggers a lethal combination.

Loadout Suggestions
Gear
  • Light Gloves
    • 10% Crit Chance to help with the Resonator.
  • Used Goblin Boots
    • Additional early game Speed.
  • Nano Edge

Traits
  • Courier
    • Voidwalk will provide you with extra opportunities to move further. Take advantage of that with Courier and deliver Quest Items to party members across the map to save multiple trips.
  • Nimble
    • You may occasionally have to reload your weapon. Nimble allows you to do so without losing the chance to heal or move.
  • Chosen One
    • Increased chance to trigger Bounty and Voidwalk to get the most from your skills, while allowing another party member to use Lucky on a more Luck-focused build.

Character Synergies
  • Fortune Teller/Monk
    • Crit Chance increases with Focus spent; both the Fortune Teller and Monk have innate Focus restoration abilities that can let the Voidwalker lash out with more damage and crits.
Astronomer

Character Description
A mainstay of the original set of heroes that saved Fahrul some 20 years ago, the Astronomer returns! Taking a break from their life of staring at the heavens on high above Fahrul, annotating and recording the alignment of the stars and cosmos itself.

Their love of the unknown draws them into the latest trials and tribulations that The Resistance must conquer; after all, the void and the stars hold many eerie similarities that pique the interest of inquisitive minds.

Skills
Black Hole
Instantly kill the targeted enemy. Your chances of triggering this skill improve with Luck and Intelligence. Provides the Astronomer with Star Matter once triggered. Star Matter, when used in Combat, gives the entire party Protection. When used on the overworld, Star Matter summons a portal that is only usable at night.

Playstyle tips
  • Star Matter can come in clutch in both combat and the overworld. Lean into triggering Black Hole as much as possible to maximize the amount you come across.
  • With both Intelligence and Vitality as their primary stats, the Astronomer can be a versatile addition to any group with the right gear drops.

Loadout Suggestions
Gear
  • Spirit Taffy
    • The Astronomer starts out with Magical Damage and can expand further into that with Tomes or the Hammer Of The Stars. Spirit Taffy provides extra Magical Damage to help boost your odds of defeating your foes.
  • Godsbeard
    • The Astronomer’s ranged magical toolkit finds itself bleeding into support quite easily. Godsbeard with the Field Medic Trait is a great way to get that started.
  • Treasure Map
    • A gamble that can sometimes pay off with great gear early on. Rare Tomes and high damage Staffs in this extra Treasure drop will help the Astronomer turn out damage in the early game.

Traits
  • Field Medic
    • The Astronomer’s toolkit frees up their Secondary Action for item use. With Field Medic, you’ll be able to provide additional support to your party even when you’re all out of Star Matter.
  • Lucky
    • Increases the odds of Black Hole triggering, getting you and your party more wins and more Star Matters!

Character Synergies
  • Blacksmith, Woodcutter, Farmer, Fallen Knight, and Friar.
    • The Astronomer’s larger-than-average health pool helps keep them alive, but a sturdy tank to soak the harsher hits would be a beneficial role any of the above characters could fill.
