Crash Fix for when Scribblenauts Randomly Crashes
By angeliapy
Hey guys, I had some trouble with my Scribblenauts Unlimited crashing every so often and popping up an error. I could boot up the game, but it kept crashing. So here is the fix that worked for me. Note: Your game should be able to start already. I don't know a fix for games that are completely unable to start.

The Error
Sometimes the crash would create a crash dump in my game folder. Here is one such dump:

Dump Summary
------------
Dump File: scribble_81280_crash_2025_10_21T23_6_41C0.mdmp : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scribblenauts\scribble_81280_crash_2025_10_21T23_6_41C0.mdmp
Last Write Time: 10/21/2025 7:06:41 PM
Process Name: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scribblenauts\Scribble.exe
Process Architecture: x86
Exception Code: 0xc0000017
Exception Information:
Heap Information: Not Present

The exception code 0xc0000017 is an out of memory error. To the extent of my knowledge, this happens because the game tries to allocate more than 2 GB of memory, but it can't, so it crashes.

Solution
Use a tool called Large Address Aware (LAA). The link can be found here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/. This tool allows the 32-bit Scribblenauts to access up to 4 GB of virtual memory.

Steps:

Download Large Address Aware tool.

Point it to scribble.exe in your game folder. Go to Scribblenauts -> Browse local game files to find your game folder.

Enable “Allow >2GB memory usage”

Save and run the game. Now you should be able to play it :D

Hope this helped!
