🧩 Transfer Save Files from Demo to Full Game — Ball x Pit (Steam Deck & Linux)
Want to carry over your progress from the Ball x Pit demo to the full game? This guide walks you through transferring save files using Proton’s compatibility folders. Works on both Steam Deck (in Desktop Mode) and Linux.

Requirements:
  • Steam Deck in Desktop Mode
  • Linux system with Steam installed
  • Both demo and full game installed
  • Hidden files must be visible (Ctrl + H in most file managers)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Enable Hidden Files
Open your file manager and press:
Ctrl + H

This reveals hidden folders like `.local`.

2. Navigate to Proton Compatibility Data
Go to:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/

On Linux, replace "deck" with your actual username.

3. Find the Demo and Full Game Folders
Inside `compatdata`, use the search bar to look for:
ball

This should show two folders:
  • One for the Demo
  • One for the Full Game

Confirm which is which by checking inside each folder for recognizable save paths like:
pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/

4. Transfer Save Files
  • Open the Demo folder and locate the save files.
  • Copy all relevant files.
  • Paste them into the same location inside the Full Game folder.
  • Overwrite any existing files when prompted.

5. Launch the Full Game
Start Ball x Pit from Steam. Your demo progress should now be available in the full version.

Tips:
  • Always back up your original save files before overwriting.
  • If you're unsure which folder is which, check the `appmanifest_*.acf` files in `/steamapps` — they contain game names and IDs.
  • This method works because Proton isolates each game in its own Wine prefix under `compatdata`.

Let me know in the comments if you need help with other Proton-based games or want a script to automate this process!
