Introduction
Okay, welcome to my Guide on how to 'Correctly' Role-play. Ok, I am not telling you to base all of your RP off of this guide, this is just a simple guideline that, yet again, does not have to be followed. I have been playing HL2RP for about 6 Months and I do not compare to pro-RPers such as Mendelvius or people along those lines; But I do have a general understanding of the game. Any who, enough of my story, let's get into the guide.
Terms
In HL2RP, you're going to hear terms and words that you may not be familiar with yet. Here are most of the terms you're going to see when playing :

OOC: Out-Of-Character
IC: In-Character
LOOC: Local-Out-Of-Character
Metagame: Using OOC info for IC Purposes (Someone says they're in trouble at so-and-so location in OOC and you run there and save him)
Powergame: When you force your actions on another player without them being able to resist or fight back against it (/me Runs at the man, punching him and knocking him out cold as he begins to kick him on the ground)
FailRP/Minging: When you do something in RP that can't actually be done (/me grabs a minigun out of his ass, putting it to his throat as he fires.)
MingeGrab: When you or someone finds an item during a firefight or just something on the ground and you pick it up with no Roleplay.
MingePunch: When you or someone runs around the map with fists out, randomly punching players as they go by with no RP.
Minejump: When you run around town bunny hopping (Constantly pressing Space)
Mingerun: When you or someone else is running throughout the city with no RP (Sees Combine walk up to him. As the Unit tries to /me, he would run away so he can't be caught.)
'Adminge': An admin who abuses their powers and minges with the terms above
Cumbean: Another stupid name for the Combine.
Perma-Kill/PK: Simple to explain, when your character is PK and can't use it anymore.
Void: When you or someone else does something like 'Hi!', and they say 'LOOC: Void', it means they want that comment deleted and basically pretend that it was never said or done.

This is only terms that I could think of right now, and there will be more that can and will be learned on your way up.

Character Creation
Okay, the first part that everyone has to go through in order to play Half Life 2 RP. This stage of the game is by far one of the easiest things to do (It can vary on the difficulty, if you want to be a character with a very simple description, go right on ahead. For those people out there with paragraph Descriptions, it might take you some time.). First you'll have to come up with a name. Try to be original with this part so you can vary from other people (Such as 'Albert Witherman' or something along the lines of that). When creating your character, try and give him/her their own unique back story. As an example "Albert Witherman, born in New Jersey, USA. His parents Aaron and Emily divorced after a month since his birth. His mother took him with her and moved to Idaho, US. He went to a small, Christian school for his entire academic career. One day, he was driving in his car when a large portal tore through the sky, emerging from it were Extra-Terrestrial Creatures. He quickly drove home, rushing into the house as he finds his mother dead on the ground with a small orange portal in the kitchen. On her was multiple Crab-Like monsters who was devouring her. He quickly stomped on the one around her head and eventually killed it as he gripped the small Cross necklace off her neck before running off. Units eventually found him and brought him to City 17. His story continues to this day...'. Okay, I hope to see no one smooching off this example but it was a fairly decent one. I am currently in school so I had to shorten it quite a bit. Then, you move onto your description. You would most likely want to put the vitals first, such as Height and Physical Descriptions such as Hair, eye color, clothing, etc. A simple example would be read as such 'Around 6 Foot | Skinny | Blue Eyes | Brown Hair | Blue Jumpsuit |'. That was a less detailed version of what I might put. Here's something that more experienced players might put. '6'1'' | Slightly Rough Complexion | Slim Figure | Malnourished Build | Short;Combed Brown Hair | Ocean-Blue Eyes | Standard UU Branded C:17 Navy Blue Jumpsuit | Straightened Blue Jeans | Worn Out; Dirty Brown WorkBoots |. This is a Description for the more advanced player. The better your description, the more people think of you. A description will give yourself a rank in whatever community the server is based in. The more advanced description you have the more people will look up to you as a good RPer and a person with a good vocabulary. If you choose to have a shorter description, people will look down at you most of the time and will think you are not as serious as most people are when playing.
Factions
In the game, you will encounter many different factions, whether it be a Unit or just a fellow citizen, these are vital to keeping life and excitement in a server (The variety of factions;the requirements to become a member of this faction varies from server to server). Most factions will require little or no effort to be apart/become one. If you want to be a rebel, just do a rebellious act such as litter or just harass units. If you want to be a Loyalist, just do something simple like clean up some trash or help units track an Anti-Citizen. If you want to be something like a CWU or Vortiguant, it might require some more effort. Most of these factions have IC applications such as CWU. For CWU, you might find their HQ or Store and ask to apply. Most of the time you would get a 'Yes' if they are hiring and a 'No' every now and then if they are full of workers. When you become one, your job is to provide general goods for the citizens that need them such as clothing or food. If you want to become a Vortigaunt, (if your server has them) you will most likely have to apply on the forums of the community. If you want to be apart of the big bad Universal Union/CCA/MPF/Etc, you will definitely have to apply on the forums of the server unless they're willing to hand out the whitelists to random people in the server then it's their choice; but more than 99% of the time they will require an Application on the forums.

-Backgrounds/Backstories

Combine/Universal Union: An extra-terrestrial alien race that was originally hunting down these creatures called Vortigaunts (We will learn about them later). They tracked them down to their final safe-haven, Xen. Back on Earth, a project in the late 1990's taking place in the Black Mesa Research Facility has leaded to the creation of a portal between Earth and Xen. Vortigaunts saw this as a chance to escape and, well, escaped. Once inside the Facility, the Vortigaunts went on a rampage, along with headcrabs and other creatures that came through with them. A Decade later, the Combine has taken advantage of the portal, sending billions of Combine Overwatch to annex the earth. The world's military forces and defensive methods have fallen and perished, leaving the humans vulnerable to the attacks. The Combine constructed these enormous towers called Citadels. These Citadels are all connected to one another, powering their devious plans. Later on, they developed the CCA: Civil Combine Authority. The soldiers in this Division were given the task to rule over the Humans and to keep order inside the walls of their newly built cities. Their reign still continues.

Civil Workers Union/Loyalist: CWU and Loyalists are pretty simple to explain. This group of individuals are loyal to the Combine Order and praise their Benefactors. They are the people who would die for the Universal Unions' cause and are willing to do anything to expand the loyal behavior and attitudes throughout the cities. The CWU are the shopkeepers of some sort, they are in charge of distributing UU Branded items to the general public such as UU Branded Clothing, Consumables, and many other supplies to keep the citizens in that City thriving.

Resistance/Rebels: This faction is fairly a simple one to explain. The Resistance is just one large group formed by many small Rebel Cells that band together to fight against the Combine. Rebels are the people that are against the new world order and fight against them to prevent complete world domination. In HL2RP, people imagine rebels as ruthless and violent and try to stop them in order to help the Combine. As a rebel, your main purpose is to prevent Combine Patrol routes, sabotage supplies and harass units in order to get your point across; you don't even have to fight to be a rebel, just put up some Anti-Combine Propaganda and they'll be banging at your door!

Vortigaunts: This faction is also a simple one to point out. Vortigaunts are creatures from the planet Xen who eventually couldn't run anymore from the Combine and were enslaved. As slaves, they are ordered to do the bidding of the Combine and have no freedom of choice. As a freed Vortigaunt, you're either a Child, Adult, Elder or Grand Elder. Child Vortigaunts, no powers whatsoever. Adult, a limited amount of power, as for Elder and Grand Elder... well, you get the point.

Those are the four main Factions in almost any HL2RP Server, and remember, this is not the only factions available. The Factions WILL Vary from server to server depending on the choices made by SuperAdmins, Co-Owners, Owners, etc.
Types of Roleplay
You will also encounter many types of RP in the game such as PassiveRP and FightRP. In a passive RP, you'd most likely just do, /me sits down, staring into the sky. If you're going to be in a fight, you're most likely going to do this, /me would throw a punch at the man, attempting to knock him unconscious. Or this, /me would lean back, the punch flying past his face. Those were simple examples of RP and you could just do those and you'd be fine, but if you want people to get a better image into their head, you would add more detail like so, /me would charge at the man, his arm contracting at the elbow as he begins to extend it in an attempt to render him unconcious. /me would quickly dart back, the punch nearly hitting him as it glides across his cheek; not as serious as an injury as was expected. He would then attempt to counter-hit him, trying to defend himself.
Those would give people a better image of the scene as the fight escalates. There are also other RPs, such as TieRP (/me would begin to wrap the citizens' hands with a ziptie. Resist?). Many servers have different systems of Roleplay. When you are in a Roll server, you would have to do /roll and whoever has the highest roll number would then succeed in their actions as the other fails to do so. In a P2L/P2W Server, you'd keep fighting or doing your action against another player until one of you loses/wins. When there is a gunfgiht, you're going to have to follow some standards. From a long distance shooting, you would S2M (Shoot-2-Miss). At a medium range, you'd S2H/S2M (Shoot-2-Hit) and at close you would RP the Situation and if you succeed in the RP, you would S2K (Shoot-2-Kill). If an admin is observing, they can call a S2K order at long/medium range if the fight is in a stalemate.
RolePlay Basics
If you are going to play HL2RP, you're going to need to know the basics. In an earlier passage of this Guide, I mention most of the terms you're going to come across in the game and alot of those are vital to know how to play. If you do something like FailRP, or Mingepunching, you can get warned/kicked/banned/etc. I would highly recommend to not do those actions unless you're going to be a complete minge and ruin the life of a server from your stupidity, but if you're not going to do that, continue reading. Many (Almost all) of the things and actions you do in a RP Server will require you to do a command called /me. '/me' is you writing what your character is doing. An example of this would be '/me would press the button on the machine, a can falling out the bottom as I pick it up.' That is one of the more simpler RP situations that you will come across. There are plenty other situations you're going to come across that need you to include action in your RP. An Example of this is, '/me would have the stunstick swung at him, hitting him in the chest as he falls to the ground.' If you are being fought or you are reacting to something, you are either going to dodge or let the action take you over. I mean, there is no way in hell you can do '/me ducks, the bullet hitting the concrete ahead of him' if the barrel of a pistol is to the back of your head. There is no possible way to escape that situation unless you are a skilled RPer or there's someone behind you who is willing to save your life from a 9mm to the back of the skull.
Advanced RolePlay
Okay, this is the final part to my Guide. I will be showing you a little more about the Roleplay in HL2RP and will be discussing more advanced topics than before. While roleplaying, you'll have to avoid PowerGaming. Powergaming is when you force actions onto another player without giving them any chance to escape or react (As mentioned in the Terms section of the Guide). An example of this would be, '/me would swing at the Citizens' head with his stunstick, impacting his temple as he falls to the ground unconscious; dragging his incapacitated body to the Nexus for Interrogation.' If you do that, you're bad. If you do THIS, '/me would unclip his stunsitck, switching to voltage setting to HIGH as he raises it in the air; swinging it in the direction of the Citizens' head as he attempts to knock him unconscious', then you're good. Mainly what I'm trying to say is that if you're in a rebel group or the MPF, they're expecting you to do the best /me's you can do and to have an abundance of detail and high grade vocabulary so they can imagine the scene in their minds as much as you can. If you're going to be one of those guys who Powergames the hell out of people, be my guest, you're just giving yourself a ticket to Ban-Land. Bringing the MPF topic back up, you're expected to act as mature and professional as you possibly can while on that character. If you're going to roleplay with other citizens or Rebels or even Loyalists/CWU who aren't as descriptive with their /me's like you are, don't do AS much but do enough so they get a general idea of what you're doing so they fully grasp the concept of the RP. And there's obviously going to be more situations than the ones I am currently listing so always be prepared to RP with other people. If you're going to be in a Hostile Environment where there's constantly shooting going on around you, whether you're a Unit or a rebel, I wouldn't recommend doing a paragraph /me; because odds are, you'll get shot while doing it. When you're in that situation, the worst you can do is no RP at all but an acceptable /me in that type of situation is something as simple as, '/me fires down the corridor.'
Events
When you're in the world of HL2RP and you're an average citizen, you will encounter some usual events. One of those events is Judgement Waivers (Lockdowns). During a Judgement Waiver, you are to report to your nearest UCH Housing Block and face against the wall so you are able to be searched. You will be asked to 'Apply'; when this happens, you will have to either do /apply, which is a command that most servers have implemented or you will have to manually go to F1, memorize your Name and C:ID, and type that into the Chat. Once completed, they will use their datapads to check your History and Background. They will either find you as a neutral citizen, a Loyalist or an Anti-Citizen. Neutral is when you have no points, Loyalist is when you have +1 Loyalist Point or above and Anti-Citizen is when you have +1 Verdict Point or above. Once classified, they will proceed to search you. If you have 'Contra-band' (An Illegal item such as a gun, Rebel Clothing, Non-UU Branded items, Etc), they will most likely Re-Educate you (Beat you senseless with a stunstick) and either Detain (AKA Jail Time) or Amputate (Death), depending on the level of Contra-band. If it's a Non-UU Branded item, you will be re-educated; if you have a rebel Uniform, possibly detainment AND re-education and if you have a gun... You're dead.

Loyalist/Verdict Points will also affect you during Ration Distributions. During a Ration Distribution, you will report to your Ration Distribution Terminal (Just follow the crowd if you don't know where to go). Once there, you will wait in a line with multiple people to the Terminal. Once at the Terminal, you will be asked to Apply. If they find you having multiple Loyalist Points, you will get Two Rations. If Neutral, One; if Anti-Citizen, either one or none.

Autonomous Judgement; This is a rare event that will most likely not be needed unless a massive rebel population is going on the offensive or multiple Unit deaths occur. There are 5 Levels to the Autonomous Judgement. If it's Level 5, you will have to go to your nearest UCH and basically hide in your apartment. If found on the street, you will have ONE warning to go inside until death. Level 4, Failure to cooperate/ wandering the streets will result in death.
Level 3, Everyone who has less than +1 Loyalist point will die. If you ARE a Loyalist and you're on the street, you will still die. Level 2, Everyone on the streets and city basically die. Level 1, It's either Units below 01 or 03 will be amputated. (Not sure if it's below 01 or 03, sorry.)
Administration
On a server, there are going to be people apart of the 'Staff Team'. The Staff team of a server is basically just the group of Operators/Moderators/Etc that are running the server and making sure that people are playing correctly and not acting like a total minge. If you wish to be apart of the Staff Team in a server, here's a little rank list and checklist that you would need to follow.

Ranks (Lowest to HIghest): Operator/Moderator, Admin, Super Admin, Co-Owner, Owner.

1. Make sure to spend alot of time on the server, they're not going to randomly promote you to Operator if you're new (Unless it's a new server)
2. Get to know the Staff Team, learn more about them and make them your acquaintances. If you're friends with an admin or two on a server, your odds are pretty good with getting that Staff rank.
3. When the time comes, apply on the Community's forums for the Staff Position. They will require to get information out of you so they know how well you perform in the game and get an understanding of who you are too and what you're capable of.
4. Once you're Staff (If you manage to get it), you will have to learn some simple commands that you need to use. Here's a few of the commands you might find in your server:

/respawn [name]
/plygoto [name]
/plysethp/armor[name] [health/armor]
/plyteleport [name]
/plyslay [name]
/chartransfer [name] [faction] [info]

If you continue to do well in your position as an Operator/Moderator, you have a high chance of being promoted to the rank of Admin, Super Admin and so on.
Conclusion [Not really the end, just comment some other topics that need to be discussed]
Well, that's all I have for now on this Guide. If you are willing to help me out on my guide, just give me some suggestions on what to post next and I'll continue editing this. If you need personal help from me, either send me a friend request and ask me or just comment it and i'll try to answer as soon as I can. For now, this is all.

It REALLY sucks with the character's death and ♥♥♥♥ when you had almost no chance of doing anything to fight back to survive, I made my character for almost a month and was about to leave the city and finally been wanting to be a rebel after so long but a mugger just killed me just the day before I was going to escape with almost no warning or option.
♥♥♥♥ made me cry ngl.
But yeah I get the death and all sometimes it is fair and you can learn from it but for me I couldn't escape nor do anything since the guy had a Magnum and his mate with him so I was good as dead. Man I was only a low class citizen W H Y Y Y Y
