Welcome, to your Fate.

Welcome. This is you. A normal kid (or demon, machine, elf...) that will soon become the greatest hero Fate knows. Fate will bow to you one day.

However, the road to such a spot of power won't be easy. The perils of danger, the call of loot, and the chance to be named among the great...Does Fate favor you?
First thing's first.
Despite how your character looks, you won't look as...adventurous as you portrayed here. You, the to-be hero....Makes a TERRIBLE mistake. Releasing chaos upon the desert. Your city is in a complete ruin...All thanks to your mistake. But you promise to fix your wrong, and inevitably become as famous as the Champion of Grove.

Sadly, you won't have much on you, when you begin your journey. 250 GP, a stick, your dog, and your wits. Oh, and a fireball spell. whoopee. Do not fear, there is one secret trade known only by few, who give themselves a advantage....

The most important item in this secret trade...Is...The Fishing Rod. Now, hold on. You're already questioning this, aren't you?
..No? Good. Buy it.
Don't worry, you'll easily make the money back 30 fold. Trust me.
Fishing!...What.
After you buy the fishing rod, head on over to a spot like this. (Note, there are two of them in the town. Neither one is different.)

This is where the greatest, even the GODS (and Fate) will fish. Why? Well...Before that, I should teach you how to fish. Don't worry, you'll have it down in several seconds.
If you look up in the picture, it's rather simple. Click Set Hook when the ! appears on screen. There is also another notification that is rather pointless. Around the !, you'll see some smoke. It's rather useless, because it's almost next to impossible to fish if you're just focusing on that. However, even the best will miss at times.

A successful fishing attempt will get you- You guessed it, a FISH.
Did you gasp? No? Well, I'll tell you what fish is useful for in a bit...They're more terrifying than you think.

Now, you won't successfully do it every time. When you fail, you'll have to wait through a short animation of your character looking at the failed attempt. However, in ALL of the games, there is a way to quickly skip this. Press (By default) "I" and "P". They will bring up your and your pet's inventories. Now, when both of them are up...simply press the buttons again. You'll close out of the inventories. You can now cancel the animation by moving or re-fishing. Note, you'll have to do this EVERY time you fail, if you want it to go by quicker.
[/i]

Why should I even bother fishing?
Simple.See that? The secret of fishing...Is that you can get ANY item from the game here.
Any.
ANY.

Oh, we can't use it? That's fine. Let's just go sell it--Sells well! Now we suddenly have a MUCH bigger pouch than when we started.

Now you've got yourself a shiny new axe, with fancy magical electricity and all! Well done fishing!

Normally, this is what fishing may look like for some people.

Lots of fish, eh? Well, the fish has a unique use. You give them to your pet (or sell them) to turn them into the newest fabulous creepypasta.OH GOD MY DOG IS NOW NIGHTMARE FUELLLLL AHHHH

Don't worry (or worry) they all have time limits on the transformations. Except the rarest of the fish...The rarest have no time limit. So this could be a good or bad thing. If you want your original pet back, simply give them a dogfish.
Magical Items.
Now, before you run off into the dungeon to collect the rare, powerful equipment...There's a small issue with magical items. They require to be identified. Don't worry, this isn't as bad as you think. There's someone in town who can identify your items, but it's much quicker to identify with your own scrolls or the Identify spell.

You can simply buy the books of Identify to get them. You can buy scrolls...but to save space, you can put them in the book by placing the scrolls in the books.

To identify something, Right Click the book/scroll, (With the spell, simply rightclick anywhere on the screen that isn't a item, then go to the inventory) then Left Click on the item to identify. With the identification spell, you may or may not be able to identify it, depending on how skillful your character is on Identifying. I reccomend using the Identify spell after a few levels.
Cheating?!?
CTRL+SHIFT+~ brings up the cheat window. I won't tell you how to use it, figure it out from there.
Warning, though. You won't be able to get achievements. Use this only if you're bored and want to spawn a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of cats for some reason.Meow.

Enchanting
You've fished for some armor, got enough gold in your pocket to make Moneybags jealous, and you're about to adventure off...But wait! All your equipment- It's basic.
Why don't we spice it up a little?
The answer? ENCHANTING! There are two ways to enchant items...Going to the enchanter in town, or..What you'll find in dungeons...The Magic Anvil! (Yes, I spawned this in. You won't find it in town.) This, unlike the Enchanter...Will enchant one item of your choice for free! The outcomes of enchanting are...

  • One enchantment
  • Unique Enchantment
  • Cursed Enchantment
  • Removal of ALL enchantments- WHAT.
  • Nothing Happens.

One enchantment is a enchantment of random. It can even be a Cursed enchantment. Cursed Enchantments are always negative- Less health, movement speed, strength, ect. Unique Enchantments give you a HUGE amount of positive enchants. Their name grows MUCH larger, as well. And removal of all enchantments...Exactly what it says on the tin. This removes everything magical on the item- Good and Bad. When nothing happens....nothing happens. If you got this from an enchanter, beware, no refunds. Bastard.

The Enchanter and The Magic Anvil both have equal chances of everything listed.
The Enchanter requires money, but you can enchant as long as you have a heavy purse.
The Magic Anvil is FREE, but only has one use before the magic fades.

Although, fair warning. Items like potions, gems, Artifacts, scrolls, and all of that sort CANNOT be enchanted. If you accidentally enchant one on a Magic Anvil or use the Enchanter, no refunds.

Of course, if you can wear it, you can enchant it. (Except Artifacts.)

Woah! The enchant turned out well for you! A flaming dagger? Hell. Yes.
...although. All of this enchanting has a large drawback...
It's...based on your level. So if you're just starting out...Your enchantments are really REALLY ugly. And a waste of hard earned money. I'd suggest waiting on Enchantments until at least Level 25~30. Of course, there's always a chance of them Unique enchantments...So, it's up to you.

You can test all of your weapons on the two dummies near the Top-Middle of town. Hard to miss.

That is the end of the guide, so far! I'm not done, as I will explain more things later on. But, hey! Now you know a little more of FATE: Cursed King!

I'm glad this guide I made years ago is still helpful to people. I'm sure people have made better guides before or since, but I'm glad younger me still helps people today.

I'll see about editing it a little maybe, if just to correct myself with the helpful people like Longsword's comment below.

A good beginners guide for people new to the series, this will help noobs starting out. One thing I will say however is that you forgot to mention that enchanters cam also add sockets to items that allow you to add gems.
While on that, I'd like to correct what you said about enchanting artifacts. Most people don't know this, but you actually CAN take artifacts to an enchanter to have them add sockets. It's very expensive and has an absurdly low rate of success but is very worth it if you find one that you really just want to use on your build. Unfortunately there's also the chance that all powers will be removed from the item, and no new effects can be added besides sockets, but I've done it alot in The Traitor Soul.

Is any one on here?

RNG has favored me on one save file. I pulled TWO Frostrinds from fishing. (Legendary shield) And I enchanted it a few times to give it some sockets. Also, you can save before enchanting, gambling, reading texts, or prying gems from fate statues and then force close the game until you get a favorable outcome.

@kemo
It's just pure RNG. I do wish you much luck though.

Must be rough catching items other than fish... I very rarely catch anything else besides them.

If you don't like the enchantment you get, just Alt+F4 and launch the game again to not save :)

You can always get loot, but there's always something ahead of you, it's why games like Diablo or Borderlands are popular, though even then there's sometimes a cap at the excessively far away levels as to how high the numbers get.
