Ascension: Safe, ammo-efficient and fairly fast high rounds strategy.

Hi zombieslayers! This is a quick strategy guide to my chosen strategy when playing rounds 50 and above on Ascension in a solo game. It's based around the use of the PhD Flopper lander area and the nearby firetrap. It basically involves firstly gathering a full group on the lander pad, then turning on the firetrap and getting to the launch/PaP area before the zombies actually run through the trap - this will cause all of the zombies to spawn in your current area, leaving the area beyond the trap nice and clear. From there, once the zombies start spawning in, you run back up and hop through the trap back to the lander area, which leaves enough time for the entire spawn to follow you through and get killed by the trap - basically, you've killed two groups with one use of the trap, which more than anything means good speed. Then from there, you gather a full hoard on the lander pad and blast them with the Thundergun, before gathering another hoard just in time for the trap to recharge.

You'll be pressing the trap every 100-110 seconds if done correctly, and killing 3 groups between presses working out around 33-37 seconds per spawn. Not the fastest of strategies especially when compared to the PaP or Spawn strategies... however, with far less "recycling" of the Thundergun to be done when compared to other Thundergun-only strategies (2/3 less, in theory) you potentially actually save time in the long run. This strategy will get you from 50 to 100 with minimal recycles. It's also incredibly safe.

Let's look at the strategy in more detail...

I will be referring to this image a few times throughout this guide, which shows some details of the first part of the strategy.

Step 1) Gather the group at the lander pad
Possibly the easiest running area in Ascension, you should have no trouble here.
At 50+ the zombies all spawn in one clump. As the first zombies from the closest spawn points to you come in, just freestyle a bit to gather them, you have plenty of space so this should be no problem.

The rest will come up the stairs. Use the whole area to run a big figure of 8 and the zombies will join your train automatically. You might choose to have your Thundergun in-hand if you're a bit less experienced in case of emergency, but I find this an ideal time to spray the group with the MP5k to make trap points.
Step 2) Start to make your way to the trap
Once you have your full group, make your way down the stairs with the zombies in tow. You can turn and shoot at the zombies here.

When the zombies reach the first circled area in the image above, it's time to turn and sprint down to the trap. I prefer to keep the MP5K in hand here as it makes you sprint 10% faster than what you would if you were holding the Thundergun.
Step 3) Keep running to the PaP area
Hit the trap and keep running. Cut through and drop down off the ledge, through the small gap and wait in the launch-pad area as circled.

Wait here for a few seconds for the zombies to run through the trap and start respawning (you will see/hear them respawning - that's when it's time to move).
Step 4) When the zombies respawn
You can now start to make your way through the trap and back to the PhD lander.

You don't have to start running back the second they respawn, and you're in no real rush here. In fact, waiting a few seconds whenhey start respawning can make things a little safer. This gives enough time for the zombies spawning in the Mule Kick room to come down the stairs, whereas if you're too quick they might drop out of the ledge on the other side of the trap instead and possibly get in your way a bit as you jump through the trap, which should still be okay but you never know.

Have your Thundergun in hand, but I've used this strategy many, many times and I've yet to have to use it to free myself from danger. It helps to keep slightly to the left as you run past the turret and the box, then if any zombies are spawning out of the ground you can move off to the right to dodge them.

Sprint and jump through the trap to get through it quickly, then sprint back to the PhD lander, buying MP5k ammo of the wall if needed.
Step 5) Final part of the strategy
Repeat the first part of the strategy to gather a group on the lander pad. Be aware that since the zombies all ran through the trap in dribs and drabs as you lead them back through it, they'll spawn a bit slower this time around.

Once gathered, shoot the entire group with a Thundergun shot to kill them.


Revert back to step 1, rinse and repeat, yada yada yada!
