psu256's Alchemist Guide and Compendium
By skipperDani
This FAQ covers the Alchemist Life in detail, including a walkthrough for unlocking Alchemy challenges, recipes, locations to acquire crafting materials, etc.

(Hopefully Chemmel sets off fewer explosions than Flammel did.)

I posted an Alchemist Life guide on GameFaqs as "psu256" years ago for the original game, and feel it is my duty to attempt to create a new one for this new game in its image.

Introduction
Fantasy Life i has 14 different Lives (combat, gathering, and crafting classes) for players to enjoy. This FAQ covers the Alchemist Life in detail, including a walkthrough for unlocking Alchemy challenges, recipes, locations to acquire crafting materials, etc.

This walkthrough will not contain main story spoilers, but will contain spoilers for the Alchemy Life story.

( Author's Note - this is a work in progress, I will be writing as I play through. I am making some assumptions on ranks etc based on the original game's content. I'm also trying to avoid seeing content from others until I get to experience the game myself - and as someone with a day job, this will be slowly crafted. Also, your humble author is not a Twitch streamer but is attempting to be to add some video content... let's see how that goes! It'll get written... eventually)
Starting Your New Life as an Alchemist
Video playthrough:

(sorry about my attempt at voice acting... it's not great.)

When you begin life as an alchemist, your first task is to acquaint yourself with your new Master. In this case, your new Master is named Chemmel, and his laboratory is located in the Alchemist Guild, close by the Guild Office.

Your first task will be to "concoct an HP Potion". Chemmel will ask you to track down his apprentice Toto to obtain the Healweed required to craft the potion, while he records the recipe. You can get 5 Healweed from Toto, who you can find nearby. Toto will then join you as you return to the Alchemist Guild.

Using The Workbench
The alchemy workbench has three apparatuses, one of which will be selected at random (in sets of two or three actions) as the next to be active. Unlike the original game, the action that needs to be performed at each location has a bit more variation. You'll need to pay close attention to both the button and the action required as you move back and forth between the stations. Keeping an eye on the upper portion of the display will help you move quickly to the next station in the sequence.

Press button once at leftmost station
Press button once at center station
Press button once at right station

Tapping rapidly is indicated by a red background and stars on each side of the symbol. A green hexagon means tap and hold the button. Two curved arrows indicates rotating the stick at that station.

The Fledgling Alchemist Challenge
After you craft the potion, a visitor, Elke storms into the Guild, demanding help on his next test. Chemmel offers your services as his newest apprentice to make a Memory Charm and sends you off to the capital to obtain a Dubious Object to include as an ingredient. Head to the Material Shop in the capital, and the Store Clerk will give you said Dubious Object. Take it back to Professor Chemmel and you'll receive the recipe. Craft the charm at the workbench, and you'll receive 500 Dosh as your reward.

Elke runs off, excited to take his exam, but you and Toto are worried about him. The two of you must head off to the school in the capital and watch as he takes his exam. Professor Chemmel meets you outside the academy, where he grants you his evaluation - congratulations! Ranked up to Fledgling!

is it hard to get exp+?
skipperDani  [author] 2 hours ago
I made it to the Elder Tree tonight, so I should have more info on material for the apprentice level crafts to fill in over the next few evenings after the day job.
Aemse 6 hours ago
this has to be the hardest skill to master.

no easy way to level it, the potions give miniscule exp and the lack of any equipment in the 300 skill range makes it a slog to get through.

plus theres no helpers to give you a boost / make skilling up easier.

Thanks, I’m not that far into the game yet - will add it

improv crafting uses a special resource you get from running the tree dungeons. it basically crafts a random item. kind of useless but at least that's just my luck.

@Makumaku

Mining will generally get you "easier" access to them, but once you upgrade your home island a bunch, you can buy a good chunk of them.
makumaku May 23 @ 5:46pm
would you recommend mining? or is buying materials the way to go?

Can't wait to see this completed, as well as, hopefully, a guide to all crafting lives. Grinding these out on Fantasy Life 3DS was a pain because the game wasn't well known back then so most guides I *could* find were usually written in Japanese. Good start for sure, but don't burn yourself out on rushing the guide, enjoy the game first bud.
skipperDani  [author] May 19 @ 12:17pm
@SoggieWfflz sorry but I don’t- I am not a full time content creator so I am sure that all the things that I will eventually document here will be documented elsewhere long before I can get to them. I have a full time day job, so I only have an hour or so a day to put into playing/streaming/editing this doc. I will do my best to make this guide the best that it can be… eventually. But I am sure that others will be far more comprehensive far earlier than mine. I appreciate your patience and hope you enjoy the game!
