ClairObscurFix

First thing everyone needs is ClairObscurFix, a mod that fixes small issues with the games frame cap and letterboxing.
To install it, head to the releases page[www.nexusmods.com], and download ClairObscurFix_v0.0.10_Steam.zip (or whatever is the latest version)

Extract the "Sandfall" folder from the archive in the game's directory ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Expedition 33" by default)

Now, open the Sandfall/Binaries/Win64 folder in the game folder (full path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Expedition 33\Sandfall\Binaries\Win64" by default").
If you want to skip intro videos or adjust other settings - edit the ClairObscurFix.ini file in this directory.
OptiScaler for FSR support
This game relies heavily on upscaling, yet it doesn't support the best one for AMD GPUs. However, we can "convince" the game to enable DLSS, and then feed DLSS data to FSR3/4 to get almost native FSR support!
The game also relies heavily on timings, so we should also enable Anti Lag 2.0.

First, download everything:
  • OptiScaler[github.com] - v0.7.7-pre9 or newer
  • Fakenvapi[github.com] - v1.2.2 or newer
  • OPTIONAL - FSR 3.1.4[drive.google.com] - only for FSR 3 GPUs, probably not going to be needed when OptiScaler includes it.

Install it:

First, drag everything from the OptiScaler folder
Run the OptiScaler Setup.bat file

Optionally, if the version is 0.7.7-pre9 and you have an FSR 3 capable GPU - also replace the amd_fidelityfx_dx12.dll file in the folder with the one from FSR 3.1.4 - FFX API.rar. This will update the FSR version used by OptiScaler to the one with much lower ghosting.

Next, extract fakenvapi.zip to the same folder as OptiScaler.
Edit the fakenvapi.ini, and set:
latencyflex_mode = 2
force_reflex to = 2

Now when you start the game and go to the graphics settings you should enable DLSS
When you save the settings you might have to restart the game, and then you'll be able to open the in-game menu by pressing "Insert"
If you set everything up correctly - you should be able to pick FSR3 from the options. Make sure you see the fakenvapi menu, like on the screenshot. If you previously replaced the FSR files with 3.1.4 - you should see the FSR version as 3.1.4 (if you're using FSR 4 - it doesn't matter). Once you set everything up - click "Save ini" and close the menu.

WARNING - While this makes it very easy to enable Frame Generation, and it will work - I heavily advice against turning FG on for this game. This game has a very tight parry mechanic that doesn't play well with the latence introduced by frame generation. It also causes the game to crash oocasionally.
General optimization mod
Final thing to do is to install the optimization mod. This essentially changes some internal settings for the game, and makes it run better (why the devs haven't done this is beyond me)

Download and install the Optimized Tweaks COE33[www.nexusmods.com], I highly recommend the "no DOF" version. If your system is mid to low powered - also consider the "potato" version.

Citing the installation instructions:

1) Download one of the Main files 2) Extract .pak file to your Sandfall\Content\Paks\~mods (create ~mods folder if you don't have it)

You should also turn the VSync off, and enable Enhanced Sync and Anti Lag in AMD Adrenalin:

With these tweaks the game runs and looks much better. I've played over 30 hours using this combination with no issues.
