How to change Voice-over language to english and keep subtitles in your language of choice

but i'll keep this guide up in case anyone needs a different method

1: Download HEX Editor

first of all: set your game language to the desired subtitle language in Doom The Dark Ages properties on steam

then go to this page: https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/
scroll a little down and click on "download page" under windows 10 (don't worry, it will work on windows 11 too)
and then choose your language (i will be using the english one to keep this guide as universal as possible) and click "Download per HTTPS" on the right side

2: edit DOOM The Dark Ages .exe file

install and open the program you downloaded in step 1 and then click on open and browse to your DOOM The Dark Ages exe file (it should be right where you installed the game) and open your DOOM The Dark Ages exe file like shown on the screenshot

3: Find the correct language section

Click on search and then find like on the screenshot




input "English(US)" and click OK





REPEAT these steps UNTIL you find a section that has the languages more or less grouped, like so:


if you don't find it and you get a pop-up that says "can't find English(US" just scroll all the way back up and try again

now you need to look for the language that you want your subtitles (NOT YOUR VOICE-OVER!) to be in in that very section, put your mouse cursor before the first letter of the language and click right there (i'm doing Polish)





TYPE "English(US)" so it looks more or less like this


note: if you still have some "leftover" letters from the language that was there previously, like portuguese, just type some dots (".") to erease it completetly




We're almost done! click on File and then Save As and then click on your Doom The Dark Ages exe file again and click "Save"








DONE :) have fun!
also note: you need to do this after every update until a better method is found

This method worked me, but on the second try. For some reason on the first attempt the game didn't even launch and the exe was borked. Now it's working fine :)
