[Garry's Mod] Change language (interface and subtitles)

This guide is designed to help you play the game with language settings, regardless of the language that is selected in the Steam interface settings.

This guide will also allow you to play with setting interface in one language and subtitles in another.

For example: you can choose German for text and Chinese for subtitles.

The launch options presented in this guide completely ignore Steam settings.

English version for all users

Follow this steps:

1. Exit from Garry's Mod
   
2. Go to Steam > LIBRARY > select Garry's Mod > click right mouse button on it
   
3. Choose Properties… > on General tab you must look at LAUNCH OPTIONS text box
   
4. On LAUNCH OPTIONS text box just type/or copy/paste -language and +gmod_language
   Example:
   

   -language german +gmod_language de

   This option will make the text language of the game menu and subtitles in German
   
   (including the user interface, for example the text with the inscription “Health”, as well as the names of weapons and everything else that the user sees directly in the game itself)
   
   
5. On LAUNCH OPTIONS text box just type/or copy/paste +cc_lang
   Example:
   

   +cc_lang russian

   This option will change the language of all subtitles to Russian
   
   In conclusion, you will have a menu and interface language in German and the subtitle language is in Russian
   
   
6. This code can be combined like this:
   

   -language german +gmod_language de +cc_lang russian

   
   
7. Below is a complete list of languages that are available in Garry's Mod.

Important note: In some cases, you will need to completely shut down the Steam program itself and then launch Steam again.

Via the menu «Steam» > «Exit» or via right-clicking on the Steam's icon on the system tray.

This will help if the Garry's Mod language has not changed!

In Garrys Mod, the language of the main interface (except for the settings menu, subtitles and other things, like your current HEALTH %) is also changed through the main menu. In order to change the language, on the game's start screen or ESC menu in-game look in the lower right corner, there is a current flag of language icon, click on it and select the desired language/country flag.
