Ultimate Fishing Infograph (Updated for v1.6)
By Doctor Timbrwulf
For those who need an updated version of the pre-existing fishing guide that's largely outdated by now.

This is an updated version of "The Ultimate Fishing Infograph + Guide" by krav1z, which I had been using quite a bit, but was unreliable because even when I found it two years ago, it was already obsolete. I then visited the official Stardew Valley wiki, and it includes all the missing fish plus updated times, locations, and seasons.

So, for the benefit of everyone who still plays this game, I've included a new infograph and updated some info from that old guide. I'll occasionally update this guide, especially if new stuff gets added, but I'm not gonna stay on top of it for the long haul. If you want the latest fishing info, please use the wiki.[stardewvalleywiki.com]

Description
Desert
The Calico Desert is located far to the northwest of Pelican Town. It is not accessible until the Bus at the Bus Stop has been repaired by completing the Vault bundles at the Community Center.
Mountain Lake
Below the entrance to the mines. Comes to an end at the bridge located besides the Joja Market. Not to be confused with the ponds below the farm house.
Ocean
The Beach and its ocean are located to the south of Pelican Town.
River
The River flows through Cindersap Forest and Pelican Town.
Secret Woods
The Secret Woods is an area that can be entered from the northwest corner of Cindersap Forest, south of the Farm. The entrance is initially blocked by a fallen log that can be cleared after upgrading to a Steel Axe.
The Mines
The Mines can be found to the northeast of the Carpenter's Shop and west of the Adventurer's Guild. They can be accessed only after you receive a letter on the fifth day of gameplay, as they are blocked off by rocks before this.
The Sewers
The Sewers are unlocked by obtaining the Rusty Key after donating 60 Artifacts to the Museum. They can be entered either through the sewer cover in the south of Pelican Town or through the grates in the south of Cindersap Forest.
Infograph
The infograph shown here is taken from the official Stardew Valley wiki.[stardewvalleywiki.com] This copy has been modified through the GIMP in order to be below Steam's 2MB image file size limit, but only by reducing the amount of colors.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I level up fishing?
Catching fish will give you experience points.
The formula to determine the experience points gained is the following:
(Quality of fish (stars) + 1) * 3 + Fish Difficulty (a value from 5-110 depending on the fish) / 3
This number is multiplied by 1.2 if you also have a treasure, 1.4 if it was perfect and 5 if it was a boss fish.

How do I increase the size of the catching bar?
As your fishing skill increases the catching bar also increases in size. The Cork Bobber can also increase your catching bar, although only the Iridium Rod and Advanced Iridium Rod can use it.

What is bait used for?
Using bait with your fishing rod reduces the delay before a nibble by 50%. Can only be attached to the Fiberglass rod or better. Some types of bait can also give you more fish or snag fish out of season.

How do I attach bait to my fishing rod?
To attach the bait to your rod, left-click the bait in your backpack (Or press A on a controller or on Steam Deck), OR right-click/press X to pick up pieces of bait one by one, then right-click/press X on the rod.

What is tackle used for?
Tackle can be attached to fishing rods to make it easier to catch fish. Many lure recipes unlock as the player's fishing skill increases. Tackles have a durability-bar, which decreases on use. Can only be attached to the Iridium Rod or the Advanced Iridium Rod.

How do I catch better quality fish?
Casting the rod the furthest away from the coast will always give you better quality fish. Note: the difficulty remains the same but the price of the fish increases!

What are Legendary fish?
There are five fish in the game classified as 'legendary'. These fish are caught under specific circumstances and have high difficulty. With the exception of the Legend, legendary fish will not appear again after being caught once. However, it is possible to hook multiple Legendary fish using Challenge Bait.

What's the recommended setup to catch a Legendary fish?
An Iridium rod, a 'trap bobber' tackle and a fishing level of at least 7. Dish O' the Sea can be consumed to increase the fishing level by 3, making the catching easier. It can be obtained by completing the 'Specialty Fish Bundle' or by cooking it after reaching a fishing level of 3.

Can I catch the "Extended Family" fish more than once?
Yes, each time the quest appears, you can catch the same fish again. They appear in the same locations as the Legendary fish.
