Daphrona's Codex

Just some tips to help with the completion of the codex challenges. I know I was really struggling with it myself, and I thought I would pass on the info.
This is my first real guide so cut me a little slack, I will be updating it as I'm going through the game.

Also a quick fix for the one's where you feel you are doing everything right but it's still not working, is to exit and restart the game.

Wild Boar

Defeat a Wild Boar while its collapsed.

Hit it with a javelin while its charging at you and then kill it while its collapsed.

There is a Boar at the start of Phraugh Village that is perfect for this challenge.

Wild Bear

Defeat a Wild Bear without using recovery consumables.

There is a Bear at the start of Phraugh Village, not to far from the Cabin on the Cliff checkpoint.

Crypt Devourer

Defeat a Crypt Devourer before it breaks the surface.

For this one I used a Javelin, I recommend picking up two skills from the Javelin skill tree. One will let you charge it and the other increases the damage. If you are still not able to one shot it, you may need to level up some more and then try it again.

There is a Crypt Devourer at the start of Phraugh Village in a cave next to the area with the Bear.
If you pass the Wild Boar you went the wrong way.

Red-Eyed Boulder Bat

Defeat a Red-Eyed Boulder bat without using recovery consumables.

This one sounds basic enough, but if like me it's not working, just exit the game and relaunch it and do the challenge again. I also did not use brutal attacks, not sure if that matters, but this is what worked for me.

There is a Bat at the start of Skoffa Cave, once you unlock the elevator you will see him hanging there just past it.

Granite Jocko

Defeat a Granite Jocko while it's staggered.

You need to kill it when it falls down and lays on it's back. Don't use brutal attack's.
It has the same move set as the Yeti's from the opening mission, so it shouldn't be too much trouble.

You will come across these at the start of the Blacksmith's side mission (Blacksmiths Heirloom) right next to the checkpoint.
There is another one right next to the Jocko Hill checkpoint in the same mission.

Pincer Spider

Defeat a Pincer Spider using only brutal attacks and brink guards.

For this one just keep parrying him until you can brutal attack it. Dodging is allowed.
Once again I had to exit and restart the game for the challenge to complete.

The first Pincer Spider you will come across, works great for this challenge since there is a checkpoint right around the corner. The checkpoint is called Poisoned Depths in Skoffa Cave.

Double-Edged Butcher

Shatter a Double-Edged Butcher and defeat it while its staggered.

For this one you have to shoot a javelin at its head and break its horns, then hit it untill it's staggered and kill it. (not a brutal attack)

There is one of them right next to the Beneath the Forgotten Temple checkpoint in the Ember Ruins.

Lunatic Destroyer

Defeat a Lunatic Destroyer after performing 30 successful brink guards.

You just need to parry him 30 times and then kill him.

There is one of these guys not to far from the Phrauge Village Dock checkpoint and a nice open space to get this done, just make sure to take out the one other enemy before you start.

Masterless Guardian

Defeat a Masterless Guardian after performing 3 successful counterattacks.

This one requires patience because you need to wait for the enemy to do the attack with the symbol and then counterattack it three times.

I did this against the one in the Ember Ruins. Start at the Beneath the Forgotten Temple checkpoint and keep progressing from there, and you will find him.

Renowned Warrior's Shadow

Defeat a Renowned Warrior's Shadow without taking damage.

This one sounds easy but i just couldn't get the challenge to complete. So i restarted the game and did it again while not using brutal attacks and it finally worked.

You can find one of them if you start at the Ember Ruins. Forgotten Temple Entrance checkpoint and turn around, go down the hill, and take a left. It is really close to the checkpoint.

Renowned Spellblade's Shadow

Defeat a Renowned Spellblade's Shadow before it empowers it's rapier.

for this strategy you have to be very fast and you will the need the skill " Brutal Attack: Descent.

Start at the Abandoned Quarry Pathway checkpoint in Nadin Quarry. And as you go down the walkway you will see a ledge that you can drop down. Once you drop down and are standing on the ledge made of rocks the enemy will start to stand up and walk forward. Once he does, wait for the red prompt and do a brutal attack from above, you will then get a chance to do another Brutal attack right after this. Keep attacking him and it should be enough to defeat him. Also don't forget to use your items like Vitality Sphere and status enhancer's. And If all else fails , level up and come back. Good Luck

Revenant Devourer

Defeat a Revenant Devourer without using recovery consumables

Watch out for the little guys around him, they are leeches and will latch on to you and make you hallucinate.

The first one you come across is located in El Ravaca Village at the Underground Water facility checkpoint. He is in the area at the bottom of the long ladder.

Undead Assassin

Use a coward's lantern to find and defeat an Undead Assassin.

Once you start the Jar bonus mission buy the lantern from the Jar head guy and equip it, It cost 50,000. ( make sure to turn it on lol ) Once you do, progress through the mission and defeat the enemies that are revealed.

Undead Summoner

Defeat and Undead Summoner with a single strike.

Use a charged attack.

You can find one of these right before the Quarry Camp Site checkpoint in Nadin Quarry.

Knivesveil Outlaw

Defeat a Ruthless Outlaw without using recovery consumables

You can find one of these guys at the Nadin Quarry starting at the Bandits Citadel Checkpoint after taking the path to the right, he is under the place where the floor falls in, next to the red soulstone.

Kniveseveil Ececutioner

Defeat a Kniveseveil Executioner without taking damage

I used a Vitality Sphere to increase stamina recovery and a Fire Enhancer and just tried to beat him him as fast as possible, before he had a chance to attack.

in Nadin Quarry starting at the Bandits Citadel checkpoint you can find him in the area after unlocking the big door in front of the checkpoint.

Failed Creation

Defeat a Failed Creation before it enters frenzy

For some reason this challenge popped after my first time killing it. Hopefully you have the same luck.

Start at the Underground Laboratory Entrance checkpoint in El Ravaca Village, and continue progressing from there. You will find him towards the end of that area, inside a large glass tank.

Devotee

Defeat a Devotee without taking damage.

This one can be completed very easily by using a charged up javelin, aiming it at it's head, and throwing it at the tank before he even has a chance to jump out of it. Pick up the two skills from the Javelin Tree called Charge and Sharpening.

It is located at the Underground Laboratory Entrance in El Ravaca Village not to far from the checkpoint in a glass tank.

Pell Los Arcane Knight

Defeat an Arcane Knight of flame before the empower their grimoire.

The credit for this goes to @Govak.

Start at the last checkpoint of Linon Mine called Execution Ground Entrance. Turn around from the Boss Door, you will see a set of stairs leading to a bridge. Go and stand on the middle of that bridge and look down to your left. You will see the Knight standing next to a flame. That is your target. Take him out with a few charged up Javelin throws and you will get the challenge complete. Remember to aim for the head.

Twisted Mage

Defeat a Twisted Mage before they launch their beam attack.

I focused on parrying him and spamming attacks until i got a brutal attack and then finished him off. I was able to get the challenge to complete on the first kill.

You will first come across one of these in the side mission " Why Have You Forsaken Us."
Start at the Sector NO.4 Laboratory Wing checkpoint in El Ravaca Village. Go straight and down the stairs he will be just past the room with the 6 zombies.

Corrupted Creation

Defeat a Corrupted Creation without using recovery consumables.

Try and focus on dodges, his parry timing was hard for me to nail down, and he has a stun attack that will leave you open. I also highly suggest taking the elevator up and unlocking the shortcut back to the checkpoint before fighting him. ( I also had to exit and re-launch the game )

You will first come across one of these in the side mission " Why Have You Forsaken Us."
Start at the Sector NO.4 Laboratory Wing checkpoint in El Ravaca Village. Go straight and down the steps passing the room with 6 zombies and the Twisted Mage, keep going and you will see a ladder. Go down it and he will be in that big room.

Beast of Madness

Defeat a Beast of Madness before it enters frenzy.

Every time he started charging up, I hit him with the skill Eagle Wind form the spear tree. it inflicts stagger with each hit.

Located at the the Aldevir Citadel checkpoint behind the big doors in the Witches Citadel

Saint of Sin

Defeat a Saint of Sin while she is grounded.

The only way to ground her is to hit her while she is in the air with a javelin. you can either do this before the fight and try to beat her quickly then, or during the fight she will fly up and turn purple and if you are quick you can shoot her down then and finish her off.

You will first come across her at the start of the Unrequited Love side mission.
Start at the Vine-Covered Entrance checkpoint in Ivy Annex (Lake City Aldevir) and she will be to the right, up some stairs.

for jocko, the stagger means u need to break his back and cause it to fall on the ground, it can be any attacks, game has many translation error and not specific for those condition

For Granite Jocko, I looked up "stagger" in the game's encyclopedia and it says to use potent blows to trigger staggers. First Jocko I ran across, hit it with a vanilla fully-charged Y attack and it grabbed its head and fell back first time.

Update to my previous comment, went to the final checkpoint of the mine and backtracked beating the elite and archer. Looking down from the bridge you can shoot one with the Javelin and he's too far for him to aggro and start casting any spells. This worked for me.

The only one I can't seem to get no matter what I try (restarting game, going back to crevice) is the Pell Los Arcane Knight before empowering his codex. Tried one-shotting with javelin, beating his ass fair and square, just won't unlock. I'd appreciate any tips or which one you went for if any of you have managed to get this codex entry.

Rev Devour dont work either!!! Killed him 20x without using any consumables and still cant get it. Only thing i can think of is my healing from my brink guard skill on my armor. ill try n remove it see if this works!!!

No need to re-launch if its not popping, you can just go to the crevice and back. Thats been working for me.

The Knives one in DAVIN ( Maluca zone ) doesn't work I never took dmg for 5 to 6 tries but it doesn't register. I got The Soul-Eating Greatsword but not Dual-weapons one.

For most of these that seem really easy, but are not popping, the fix seems to be exiting the game and re-launching it, and then do the challenge again. So far i haven't had to do a complete re-install.
