Intro
Beefalo are neutral mobs can be found in the Savanna biome. They travel in herds. They will drop manure randomly. Killing them will drop 4 meat, 3 wool and 33% chance to drop a beefalo horn.

Character
I recommend you to choose Wigfrid if you want to tame a beef because Wig has 2 important skill that helps your progress which are Noble Mount I ("Beefalos will be domesticated 15% faster.") and Noble Mount II ("Beefalos will allow you to ride them for 30% longer.")
Breeding Season
It happened mostly on Spring but it sometimes can happpen on Autumn and Winter too. During mating season, some baby beefalos will be born and all beefalo behinds will turn red and get hostile to anyone who come close to them. If you are in the progress of taming a beefalo during mating season, you have to wear a beefalo hat to get close to it without it attacking you.
Items
It is used to bond with a Beefalo by hovering the bell over it, then clicking the left mouse button. Players can name the Beefalo by either typing it in or choosing one of various names by clicking the Random button: the default name given is "[Player]'s Beefalo".

Bonded Beefalo will follow the player unless the player aggravates them, even when untamed. A player may only be bonded with one Beefalo at a time. The player can break the bond by right-clicking the bell.

When a player goes offline with a Beefalo Bell, the bonded Beefalo disappears with the player. It also allows players to take Beefalo into the Caves and through Worm Holes.

The Beefalo Gloom Bell works like the Beefalo Bell, but can be used on the dead body of a bound Beefalo to revive it. Doing so will reduce 50% of the character's maximum health and 100 .

After reviving a Beefalo, the Bell has a cooldown of 15 days. When the Beefalo dies while the cooldown is still active, its body will disappear immediately without a chance of reviving.

Manure left by a bound Beefalo will disappear after 5 seconds.

The Brush required 1 Walrus Tusk (Winter Mob),1 Steel Wool(Kill ewecus) and 2 gold to craft.
When used on a Beefalo one Beefalo Wool will be obtained, obedience level increased by 40% and domestication by 1.6% (domestication level only increases once per day).

The Brush can be used multiple times on the same Beefalo, but will only be beneficial the first time it is used per day. Thus, it should be used once per day on each Beefalo that is being tamed.

Using a Deconstruction Staff will give back all the materials, enabling the creation of endless brushes with only 1 required Steel Wool.

It allows the player to safely remove a Saddle from a Beefalo without the Beefalo needing to buck the saddle off. Prying a Saddle off with the Saddlehorn conserves saddle durability.
Structures
Grooming Station
It allows players to dress up their bonded Beefalo with various skins. All Beefalo skins are free, aside from the Selenial and Sanguine skins. The Beefalo has to be hitched to the station first.

Salt Lick
When certain animals are within 4m of a Salt Lick, they will each lick every 60 second until the Salt Lick is depleted. Each Beefalo consumes 2 uses per lick and their domestication level loss is paused. Each Koalefant consumes 4 uses per lick. Each Grass Gator consumes 4 uses per lick. Each Volt Goat consumes 1 use per lick. Each No-Eyed Deer consumes 1 use per lick.

Salt Lick attracts the above animals within 20m. This can be used to bait the above animals when making a pen.

At full durability, a Salt Lick can keep a Beefalo from losing domestication for approximately 15 days, at 16 uses per day with 240 durability.

Volt Goats, No-Eyed Deer, Koalefants, and Grass Gator cannot be domesticated nor will they gain domestication. Keeping them around a Salt Lick would only waste the uses of this structure with no benefits.

The Beefalo can be "parked" close to a Salt Lick as they will stay in close proximity to it.

Gourmet Salt Lick
The Gourmet Salt Lick works similarly to the Salt Lick, but has twice the durability and can be refilled with Salt Crystals, each restoring 80 durability.

At full durability, a Gourmet Salt Lick can keep a Beefalo from losing domestication for approximately 30 days, at 16 uses per day with 480 durability.
Saddles
Saddle
  • 40% faster movement speed.
War Saddle
  • 25% faster movement speed.
  • 16 bonus damage.

Glosammer Saddle
  • 55% faster movement speed.
Battle Saddle
  • 30% faster movement speed.
  • 5 bonus damage.
  • 40% armor.
(Only wigfrid learned this in skill tree can craft this.)

Nightmare Saddle
This saddle allows a 45% riding speed above the base speed of the Beefalo (vs. 40% for a regular Saddle), and adds 18 bonus Planar Damage to melee attacks made while riding the Beefalo, 60% protection and 15 Planar Defense for the Beefalo. Additionally, the Nightmare Saddle also makes Beefalo deal 10% more damage towards Lunar Aligned creatures and take 10% less damage from Shadow Aligned creatures. It can be shaken off by a disobedient Beefalo 12 times before it breaks.
Domestication
First make beefalo bell then use it on a beefalo. Then you use have to feed him 2 or 3 steam twigs per day. Feed him especially when he is begging for food. Other item that can be feed beefalo are grass, light bulb and veggies. Feeding him lightbulb give no hunger points. When his stomach is almost full, he will fart. Do not overfeed him because he will vomit and that will reduce domestication points. The level of Beefalo domestication determines how long you can ride the beast for. When you beef is fully tamed, there will be a poof animation and your beef fur will be different. A fully tamed beef will never shake off their saddles. If you brush him once per day, the process take 1 season and 40 steam twigs. If you dont have brush, you need about 57+- steam twigs.

Note: Even your beef is fully tamed, if you left it hungry or not riding it for some time, the domestication value will decrease. To avoid this happen, build either a salt lick or gourmet salt lick where you park it.

Warning
Attacking your Beefalo will extend the process by 6 days!
Also never shave your beefalo!

Obedience
Obedience value determines whether or not you can ride your Beefalo or not. If the obedience value is above 50%, you can ride the Beefalo. If it is between 40% and 50%, it will not let the player mount it but will keep the saddle. Under 40%, the Beefalo will throw off any mounted saddle and damage its durability. Trying to mount the Beefalo while it is under 10% obedience will make the Beefalo attack the player.

Feeding the Beefalo some grass or twigs will raise the obedience by 10% so make sure you have a large supply stockpiled. A brush can be used once per day to raise obedience by 40%.

50% of obedience is lost per day and if you over feed the Beefalo, its obedience will drop by another 30%. If the player attacks, or shaves their Beefalo, the obedience will instantly drop to 0.

Minimum obedience is achieved once a Beefalo is fully domesticated and the value depends on the tendency.
Tendency
Tendency determines the stats of a domesticated Beefalo such as attack damage and movement speed. Depending on how you treated your Beefalo during domestication, it will acquire a tendency once it is fully domesticated. There are 4 possible tendencies: Default, Rider, Pudgy or Ornery.

A Beefalo will get the rider tendency if the player rides it a lot. A rider does a reduced 25 damage but has a speed value of 8 which makes it the fastest Beefalo type. It has minimum obedience of 95%.

A Beefalo will get the pudgy tendency if it is constantly kept above 50% hunger, or overfed. Pudgy does 20 damage per hit, least damage amongst all other Beefalo types but has a sanity aura of +6.25 per minute. It has minimum obedience of 60%.

A Beefalo will get the ornery tendency if it is engaged in combat a lot. Ornery can do 50 damage per hit so it is ideal for hunting mobs. However, ornery has a minimum obedience value of 45% which means you will have to feed it every now and then if you wish to ride it.

The default tendency is achieved if the player manages to keep a balance between all 3 other tendencies. It has the same stats as a regular Beefalo with 80% minimum obedience.

Fat,Rider and Ornery
Steps
1. Make a golden shovel to dig saplings and collect 240 twigs. The alternative is tell your friend to pick wickerbottom and read book to keep on regrow saplings for you to harvest lots of twigs.
2. Make a beefalo bell.
3. Use it on a beefalo.
4. Park it a bit far from your base. Far from bees, frogs, pigmen and bunnymen.
5. Feed it 2 steamed twigs per day. (Max per day is 3)(Stop feed it if farts) And use brush on him once per day.
6. After feeding him about 35 steam twigs overwall, feed him 5 twigs ,then give it a saddle and start riding it.
7. Everytime he bucks you off, feed it 3 twigs to prevent he remove your saddle which damage the durability.

Default
2 steam twigs per day, never ride it.
Rider
2 steam twigs per day, when total fed is 35 steam twig, start riding it.
Pudgy
3 steam twigs per day or overfeed it
Ornery
2 steam twigs per day, when total fed is 35 steam twig, start riding it and attack mobs a lof of time.

  • You need about 36~40 steam twigs to tame him and another 80 twigs in your invetory to feed him when he buck you off.
  • Feed him 3 to 4 twigs if you want to get off him to do other stuffs like cooking in kitchen.
  • If it's pudgy, feed it less so you can get other tendency because pudgy is the worst type.
  • The alternative way is just to feed him 2 or 3 steam twigs per day with zero riding. It's possible but you're likely to get either default or pudgy.
  • During spring, where beefalo get heated and he will often buck you off so i suggest you log out and come back later at other season.
  • It sometimes also get heated at other season like autumn or winter. When it's heated, wear a beefalo hat when you approach it or else he will attack you when you gets near.
  • If you overfeed it, it will vomit and it decrease domestication value.
Mod
There is a useful mod for taming beefalo it's called Domestication Calculator made by Crestwave. Everytime your beef buck you off, it will show you how much dom value it is.
