How to make sure your friend gets credit for referring you to Milky Way Idle, how referrals work in this game, and what happens if you do or do not register using a referral link.

How to register for MWI using a referral link

If you have already created your account for Milky Way Idle or logged into the game, then it is too late to use a referral link or code.

If you don't have an account for the game yet, you can register with someone's referral link by opening it in an internet browser and creating your account on the website there, before logging into the account through the Steam version and linking the account to your Steam account.

Below is my referral link so you can see what it looks like. If your friend gave you their referral link, be sure to use theirs instead of mine so that they get the credit. The numbers at the end of the link is the account ID of the person it is from, so that the game knows who to give the credit to.

How referrals work in Milky Way Idle

When you create an account for Milky Way Idle using a referral link in an internet browser, not through Steam, the person who the link was from will be eligible for the following rewards:

• 40 cowbells if the referred person reaches Total Level 200
  
• Additional 80 cowbells if the referred person reaches Total Level 400
  
• 10% of any cowbells purchased by the referred person (not taken from the purchased cowbells, but generated as extra ones for the referrer)

Note that when you register using someone's referral link, only the person the link was from gets anything out of it.

You do not gain anything from registering with a referral link!

Therefore it is not a big deal if you registered without one.

Your own referral link for referring your friends to the game is found in the social menu, which is located in the menu below the list of skills.

What do I gain by using someone's referral link?

Nothing!

As mentioned in the previous section, you don't gain anything from using someone's referral link when creating your account, only they do, so it's not a big deal if you don't use one (your friend would probably appreciate it if you do use one they gave you though, if they did, especially if you end up spending money on the game).
