Installing mods + Fixes I've found

A simple guide (I hope) on how to use mods, and a few fixes I've found in case they don't work.

What's this?
Hoi Hoiii, Rika here!
Here's a simple guide on how to play EA's WRC 23...or 24 with mods! because I've only found one in Korean(?) and one on youtube, to make it easier for people, and try to gather any possible fixes I encounter (feel free to suggest yours too!).
Keep in mind that I am an absolute idiot and I have no idea what I'm doing,so don't expect fanciness.

Now,first thing first...
Where do I find mods?
To install mods, we first need mods! wow,no ♥♥♥♥ Rika!

Well most mods I've found are on racedepartment or however it's called now they decided to throw away their identity for no reason , I've seen a few on nexus mods but its only a couple of reshades, so who cares.

Here's the link to the EA WRC section:

https://www.overtake.gg/downloads/categories/ea-sports-wrc.254/

You need an account to download mods, but you can sign up and download mods for free.

Just find the mod you like, click on it,and then on the download button next to its name.

Now that you have mods...
Where do I put them?
Now that you have your mods, you need to put them in the game wow,no sh- Shush!.

If its an engine.ini mod like the Bloom and Stutter Fix, or some other kind of performance tweak, the file they come with (which should be called engine.ini) goes in your appdata folder here,to replace the original game's.

All other mods like skins, models, UI mods usually come in .pak files.
Those need to be unzipped first (the engine.ini too if it came in a zip of course) and then dropped in the game's pak folder here (this is an example,I don't know where you installed your own steam, but it shouldn't be that hard to figure out. You can also right click on the game in your steam library and choose manage then "Browse local files" to be brought to where the game's installed)

If you're on the EA app why do you hate yourself so much? I assume there's a way to find your game by clicking on manage game there as well

Now...
How do I run them, plus some fixes
Now that we've got them set up,we need to set up the game itself.
To do this we need to right click on the game in the steam library, click properties and on the general tab, right at the bottom we need to write

-fileopenlog

Very important, there's a space before that line!

Same thing with the EA app I assume, but I don't know for sure.

Now technically, you can just click play and the mods should be loaded,so go and have fun!

However, whilst this seems to work for everyone else, it hasn't actually ever worked for me and whenever I find a fix that does work for me, a new patch comes out and breaks it again.

So here's a few fixes I've found in case the game tells you your files are corrupted (they're not,its just EA's anticheat trying to ♥♥♥♥ you over as per usual) The first one is what currently works for me,the latter are what used to in earlier patches. I will expand it in case I find something else that works,by myself or suggested by others.

  • Run steam as administrator. Why? no idea but it's the only thing that fixed it for me. Just right click on its icon and choose run as administrator whenever you do want to play the game. (Of course if you had steam open you have to close it first) You need to do this everytime unless you want to set steam to permanently run as admin. in that case find your steam exe, click properties, compatability, run as admin, apply.
  • Run the game in dx11 mode by adding in the launch properties, with openlog, -dx11.
  • Reinstalling the game. (yeah I know, seems dumb but it used to work in the early patches)
  • Deleting the entire WRC folder in appdata, the one where you put the engine.ini as discussed in the previous section of this guide.
  • Try another mod, some mods may have become incompatible after some patches,so try downloading the most recent ones just to check if at least those work.
  • Kissing your computer. Important! Only works if you're a lesbian!

Das ende
This guide is now over so go out there, get a 5 second penalty for barely deviating off the center of the road, and smash into a tree!
