In 1979, a military conflict occurred between Vietnam and China, known as the Sino-Vietnamese War. The conflict was caused by a number of territorial and ideological contradictions between the two countries.

China, fearing the spread of Soviet influence and communist ideas in Vietnam, launched a military operation to weaken Vietnam's position and establish control over its territories. However, Vietnam was able to successfully repel China's attack and maintain its independence
