Fluent in R’lyehian (achievement guide)

I will explain what I did to get this achievement. Warning: This achievement is bugged and sometimes, even if you do what is supposed to be done, you won't get it. Yes it's frustrating, but it's not my fault. :)

Introduction and important infos

/!\ WARNING: This achievement is bugged and sometimes, even if you do what is supposed to be done, you won't get it . Yes, it's frustrating, but it's not my fault. :)

During my second playthrough I went for this achievement because it was the only one I was missing (my sanity was to high on my first playthrough because I was aiming for all 4 endings at the same time).
Anyway, I managed to get it first try.
I played on PC.

HERE IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT I DID:

-I have never drunk alcohol.

-For my skills I put everything in 'Hidden Objects' and 'Investigation' and I tried to get as many hidden objects as possible (at the bottom left of your screen you will have a green circle with a question mark, meaning there is a hidden object in this room, so look for it). I tried to up the 'Occultism' skill as well.

-I lowered my sanity as much as possible. I went trhough all the traumas and read 2 unholy books (it affects your sanity, and you need to have the lowest sanity possible in order to speak R’lyeh).

-I pushed Irene Sanders to the limit (sùicide)

-I accepted Algernon Drake's help in Chapter 8.

-I spoke R’lyeh (the symbols) everytime I got the chance to do so (9 dialogue options in total), it begins at Chapter 9.

-I ‘submitted’ to the Leviathan and ‘Accepted the knowledge’ in Chapter 10.

-I let the Shambler kill Drake in Chapter 10.

-I killed Bradley in Chapter 12.

-I took the medecine, ate the flesh and took the handgun in Chapter 13.

-I called Cthulhu (Perform the Ritual) at the end of Chapter 14.


This is a screenshot of your sanity when you get all the traumas and your sanity is the lowest: every symbols on the left are in green-ish colour (instead of black) and your sanity meter on the right is empty.

Chapter by chapter guide

I will give you as much details as possible about my playthrough and how I managed to get this buggy achievement.

Side notes:

The ‘(story related)’ mention means that you don't have to do anything, except play the game, solve the investigation and follow the story. Think about analyzing and trying to find as many hidden objects as possible, and clues as well.

🔊 ‘DIALOGUE OPTION’ – means you NEED to speak R’lyeh here or you will miss the achievement.

---> 🔷 IMPORTANT NOTE n°1. When you speak in R’lyeh, DON’T SKIP the dialogue. When I had a discussion with a character in order to get this achievement, I didn’t skip any dialogue because, according to other players, if you skip (using the space bar key) the game doesn’t register your choice.

===>Also, take every hidden object and occult item you will find.

===>Don't drink any alcohol.

CHAPTER 1.

(story related) The nightmare.

CHAPTER 2.

You need to enter the Warehouse 36 by the trapdoor on the side. You need to find three items (they are in the same room where the trapdoor is) and take them in correct order (cog, ratchet, lever).
To open the trapdoor you will have a strength check to do and it’s a problem: if you succeed the door will open instantanly, but if you fail your character will struggle a little and YOU NEED TO QUIT THE GAME IMMEDIATLY before the failure is auto-saved, otherwise you will have to do chapters 1 and 2 AGAIN because the auto-saving system is sh-t and annoying as fck.
After solving this puzzle, the trapdoor is now open. Go further, and into the water, and you'll get the hallucination for the trauma.

CHAPTER 3.

I Accepted Bradley's help.

(Nothing can lower your sanity here…. Just play this chapter normally.)

CHAPTER 4.

(story related) Falling into the sacrificial pit and the ritual in the cave.

CHAPTER 5.

You need to go to the morgue and see the corpses (trauma). To do so, you need to give the sleeping pills to the crazy man in his cell. He will scream and the guards will go to see him. Go into the morgue to get the trauma, then get out of the hospital the way you want (electricity with one of the lever in the morgue, or create a gas leak).

(story related) The death of Francis Sanders.

CHAPTER 6.

Push Irene Sanders to the limit, it’s important she commits suicide (you will get a trauma in chapter 10 for this).
When you speak with her, choose the following answers:
1. 'You’re taking it quite well….'
2. 'It wasn’t me who sent him there.'
3. 'About the Shambler.'
Then, in the next room, take the recording cylinder and place it in the machine, so she can hear her dead husband and feel guilty about it.

📖 Malleus Bestiarium, Volume 2 - You need to read the UNHOLY BOOK on the table where Cat is waiting before you speak with her.

(story related) The encounter with the Shambler and the fight.

CHAPTER 7.

📖 Malleus Bestiarium, Volume 1 - You need to read the UNHOLY BOOK in the wooden box, at the end of the corridor with the libraries, on the right. You need a light source to read it.

(story related) The Necronomicon (take the info about the amulet, the R’lyeh langage in the desk drawer and library).

CHAPTER 8.

When you play as Dr Marie Colden, analyze the first patient in front of her at the start of the chapter’s cutscene (while talking to the nurse), and after that go see the body of Irene Sanders in the Block B area, interact with her and read her files.

When you’re back as Edward Pierce, ACCEPT Algernon Drake’s help.

CHAPTER 9.

📖 Malleus Bestiarium, Volume 3 – At the begining of this chapter, you are in Dr Fuller’s office. On the small table there is the last UNHOLY BOOK for you to read (I forgot to read this one during my playthrough but I still got the achievement).

🔊 DIALOGUE OPTION – When you find Sarah Hawkins in her cell, speak R’lyeh.

(story related) Charles Hawkins death.

🔊 DIALOGUE OPTION – When you wake up, speak with Bradley (he’s sitting at a table on the same floor as you are) tell him the truth about Marie and speak in R’lyehian.

🔊 DIALOGUE OPTION – Go down and talk to Sarah in R’lyeh when the option appears.

🔊 DIALOGUE OPTION – After talking with Sarah, talk to Drake in R’lyeh. If you can’t speak in R’lyehian, go find the Amulet and ANALYZE THE INVOCATION CIRCLE (investigation) to get a trauma and lower your sanity. Go back to Drake and speak R’lyeh if you couldn’t do it previously (it worked for me). After that I gave the Amulet to him.

CHAPTER 10.

Trauma from the Irene Sanders’ suicide (if you’ve followed my steps in chapters 6 and 8 you got it).

When the Leviathan talks to you : SUBMIT to it and ACCEPT the knowledge.

(story related) Banish the Shambler. [note: I let Drake die at the end of this event, when I touched the painting I decided to turn off the lantern]

CHAPTER 11.

(story related) The first dilemma, appears in a cutscene.

🔊 DIALOGUE OPTION - Talk in R’lyehian with the Leviathan (all the option are in R’lyehian here, I chose the option on the middle left)

CHAPTER 12.

When you have the choice, KILL Bradley.

Collect the medical kit from the warehouse, then go to the dock to heal Roy. After that, enter the captain's office and interact with Cat's corpse (trauma).

CHAPTER 13.

(story related) Leviathan.

Second dilemma: choose to take the sleeping pills.

Third dilemma: choose to eat the flesh.

Final dilemma: choose to take the gun.

CHAPTER 14.

🔊🔊🔊 DIALOGUE OPTION – When speaking to Marie Colden, pick the R’lyeh 3 times.

🔊 DIALOGUE OPTION – At the end, talking to Sarah, speak in R’lyehian.

At the end, you need to choose "I will perform the Ritual" and call Cthulhu. (You need to do this ending to get the achievement!)

..........Unless....... (READ the following notes)

---> 🔷 IMPORTANT NOTE n°2. From what I've read from other players, sometimes you'll have to reload your last save and "Perform the Ritual" multiple times (4 times in total) and THEN you'll get the achievement.
This doesn't make sense but, like I said earlier, this achievement is bugged.
So... If you did the same things I did and didn't get this achievement, try reloading your last save and performing the ritual again (let the cutscene play, then skip the credits and let the second part of the cutscene play). If it doesn’t work, try again and again. Some players got the achievement after the 4th time.

---> 🔷 IMPORTANT NOTE n°3. For me the achievement appeared at the start of the ending cinematic (before the credits), but for some players it appeared after the credits, that's why it's important you watch the 2 parts of the cinematic.
