Guide to mining in FO2

Pickaxes

(1) Standard Pickaxe: 1-2 mining damage, 1.00 attack speed, Level 15 Equip Req

• 10 Gems from NPC Shop
  
• Market price around 50k gold currently (varies with market).
  
• Quest Reward from end of Miner Hero Quest Chain (starts in Crab Coast; details below).
  
• Vendors for 5 gems, which makes buying pickaxes from market and vendoring them for gems often a decent way to convert gold into gems. Many people will be selling their old pickaxes once they upgrade to gold.

(2) Gold Pickaxe: 1-3 mining damage, 1.00 attack speed, Level 15 Equip Req

• 100 Gems from Forgotten Underground NPC Shop.
  
• Not sellable to shops.
  
• Not usually available on market since not sellable to NPC shops and currently no better pickaxe in game.

Quests

Miner Hero Questline to Obtain Pickaxe:

• Starts in Crab Coast town next to barber.

(1) Miner Hero: Evil McBadGuy. Kill 1x Evil McBadGuy (Level 9) in Noob Island (top right). Rewards 3000 coins.
(2) Miner Hero: King Crab. Kill 1x King Crab (Level 11) in Crab Coast (bottom left). Rewards 3000 coins.
(3) Miner Hero Lucky Skull Spider. Kill 1x Lucky Skull Spider (Level 14) in Crab Coast (top left). Rewards 3000 coins.
(4) Miner Hero: Skele Champion. Kill 1x Skele Champion (Level 16) in Crab Coast (top right). Rewards 3000 coins.
(5) Miner Hero: Boulder Colorado. Kill 1x Boulder Colorado (Level 21) in Cave of Some Return (top middle). Rewards 3000 coins.
(6) Miner Hero: Ex Miner Pitboss. Kill 1x Ex Miner Pitboss (Level 24) in Swamp Grotto (top middle). Rewards 3000 coins.
(7) Miner Hero: The Alpha. Kill 1x The Alpha (Level 26) in Mirabella Cove (left middle). Rewards 3000 coins.
(8) Miner Hero: Ogre Champion. Kill 1x Ogre Campion (Level 33) in Mirabella Cove (right middle). Rewards 3000 coins.
(9) Miner Hero: McBadGuy Redux. Kill 1x McBadGury Redux (Level 32) in Mirabella Cove (bottom right). Rewards 3000 coins and 1x regular pickaxe.

Daily Gem Quests:

• 5x Iron Veins: Cave of Some Return Entrance (Level 16). Rewards 2 Gems.
  
• 5x Silver Veins: Swamp Grotto Entrance (Level 18). Rewards 2 Gems.
  
• 5x Gold Veins: Forgotten Wastelands Gate (Level 36). Rewards 2 Gems.
  
• 5x Unobtanium Veins: Forgotten Underground Entrance (Level 40). Rewards 2 Gems.
  
• 5x Ice Veins: Frozen North Town (top left of map) (Level 48). Rewards 2 Gems.

The quests are character specific and you can complete all 5x Daily Gem Quests separately on each of your characters. It is recommended to do all 5x Daily Gem Quests daily to earn 10 Gems per day. The mining veins can be mined in any location that has those veins (not just the location where the quest giver is located). Note that while you while pickaxes can be equipped with a level 15 character, you have to reach the area with the quest giver and mining veins. The mining areas now have level requirements as shown in quest list above and beside each area below.

Mining Locations

Possible Vein Drops:

• Iron Vein: 100% Iron Ore, 40% Iron Chunk, 20% Iron Slab, 5% Sapphire, 5% Amethyst, 5% Onyx
  
• Silver Vein: 80% Silver Ore, 40% Silver Chunk, 20% Silver Slab, 5% Sapphire, 5% Amethyst, 5% Onyx
  
• Gold Vein: 100% Gold Ore, 40% Gold Chunk, 20% Gold Slab, 5% Ruby
  
• Unobtanium Vein: 80% Unobtanium Ore, 30% Unobtanium Chunk, 15% Unobtanium Slab, 5% Emerald, 1% Unobtanium Plate
  
• Ice Vein: 5x 35% Ice Crystal Fragment and 1x 3% Ice Crystal Chunk
  
• Peppermint Vein (Seasonal): 100% Peppermint Ore, 40% Peppermint Chunk, 20% Peppermint Slab

It is possible to get all three gemstones in same mining node.

Strategies

• Remember that there are multiple servers. Changing servers can give you access to more mining nodes.
  
• Farm nearby mobs until a node respawns.
  
• Leave one ore in mining node when done for chance for vein to instantly respawn once mined vein disappears.
  
• Be patient.
