How to Download Your Save File

Option 1: From Your Steam Cloud

Through your Steam Cloud (You should have this on your account):
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=1462040

  • (From here you can get the file structure, being able to skip finding your steamid
[explained in the next step] as it's already there)

  • (Keep in mind that when you download the file from steamcloud, the filename will be a little messy, so you'll have to rename it to look something like this:

    ff7remake000.sav
    ff7remakeplus004.sav

The numbers are just the saveslot*

Option 2: From External Sources (e.g., NexusMods)

External Sources:

Nexusmods:
Nexusmods 100% Save[www.nexusmods.com]

Github: (My Own Save, Not 100%)
My Own Save [github.com]
Save location
Folder Structure and Copying

Step 1: Get Your SteamID64

You can find your SteamID64 using this or any other site:
https://steamid.io/lookup/

(you should copy Your Profile Url)

Step 2: Create the Necessary Folders

You can create the folders manually or use this command to automate the process:
Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE\Steam
mkdir "%UserProfile%\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE\Steam"

Step 3: Add Your SteamID64 Folder

Inside the Steam folder, create a new folder named with your SteamID64.

Your path should look like this:
%UserProfile%\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE\Steam\YOURSTEAMID64

Step 4: Copy the Save File

Finally, place the save file in the folder you just created.

Updated!

Not sure if my experience was unique for some reason or not, but had to modify this slightly to get it to work. The saves I downloaded through Steam Cloud came appended with the file structure in the file name. This did two things: my SteamID was right there in the name, so no need to look it up, and the files had to be renamed to remove all the extra bits before Rebirth would recognize them.

Pasting my Steam Profile URL into the search site came up with an error every time. A much easier (and in my case, actually working) way to look up SteamID is to go to Steam, click your username in the upper right, select Account Details: <username> from the drop-down, and then just look for the number under your username in the upper left corner.

You might want to check and see if what happened to me is the new default behavior and update your guide accordingly. Thank you and Happy Gaming!

If you still want to get the Materias, you can get the save from elsewhere, like NM;
I'll also be updating the guide with my own save (it's not 100% tho')

Scratch that, it found the saves, still won't accept my saves from the Epic Games store version of the game, gives an error that it's not the same ID and game store. Such a simple thing to implement and such a rigid policy to make people feel bad about buying the previous game at launch too.

I found that because I use OneDrive for document redirection, I had to put this in the OneDrive folder for My Games, which, oddly did not match %USERPROFILE%.
