Just a little tip for new players on how best to spend your mercenary points.

When To Stop Leveling

When leveling up your characters, reach a certain level and then stop.

• Common = level 16
  
• Rare = level 13
  
• Epic = level 8

Reason? Neural Link feature and Modification feature. Once you unlock Modification, you can use lower-quality character extra points and transfer them to higher-quality versions of the same character. However, the Neural Link feature allows unlocking static global bonuses if you have multiple characters unlocked. Neural Link sometimes only requires having the character, but sometimes it requires the character to be at a specific level or higher to unlock the bonus.

So if you never use Modification, then you can just level everybody. But that costs an insane amount of cash, F2P will never be able to do it. So most people want to use Modification. But if you modify all your points, you cannot unlock all the bonuses from Neural Link.

Therefore, just level characters to the point in the above list, then stop. This way you can get all the Neural Link bonuses and also modify all extra points towards the higher quality versions of the characters. You will also spend less cash on unnecessary leveling.

The Reboot feature is up to you. If you are min/maxing, then don't Reboot any character that has a higher-quality version available. If you are OCD, you will want to Reboot anyway simply so the UI stops highlighting it in the Squad listing.
