Basics guide (English)
By xtreamman
This guide will attempt to explain how this game works. The tutorial didn't help me much, so it was painful trial and error. This can be part of the fun! in which case, do not use guides. Some folks simply cannot or do not want to figure this stuff out, but think that putting the game on easy is too much of a 'cheat'.

Note, so far I am VERY early into the game and know barely anything. However this game has NO guide for English players, so to save tons of time I started something. Comments are appreciated if you have something to add. Remember, you could have made your own guide if you are so good at this game, but you didn't, so be respectful.

Tutorial Fights - basic explanation (and saving the game)
After the introduction you will enter the house and get separated from Kana. Your first tutorial tip is kinda simple however I noticed a discussion talking about this:

Saving
  • Save 1 acts as an auto save! Yes it would have been easier if it was called auto save
  • Your first time saving must be done on save 1, probably because the save needs to be created for the auto save to do it's thing? The tutorial explains that you need to do this (not why)
  • so after your first save, save on save 2 as soon as possible!

Tutorial (Optional)
Next, after you leave the first room you will encounter a grey/black... you know what you bought this game. touching it will ask you if you want to do the tutorial mission. Now if the boss fight is too hard, like it was for me, you can skip this. The tutorial doesn't really explain how this works. In short you are told to hit physical enemies with physical attacks and magical with magical attacks. You, however only have 1 magical attack which consumes all (MP) but gives you (TP). Then you get to the boss and you are supposed to convert all (MP) into (TP) so your physical attacks do damage against this magical boss.

yeah I didn't get this either, the result was me doing no damage even after using the 'spiritual liberation' skill.

The tutorial tells you you cannot win the fight by just using 'spiritual liberation' and 'Exorcism' skills. WTF are these?

Ok so in short you have the following battle interface:
  • Attack
  • Magic
  • Physical
  • Defense
  • Item

Physical and Magical attacks and foes.
Despite the explanation, physical attacks actually do massive damage against magical targets, but only if you use the 'Magic > Spirit Liberation' which is sort of implied in the tutorial years of training in English, dealing with non native speakers taught me to think outside of the box with translations in these games.

Getting to the boss
Most of the path is relatively obvious. However after your second fight you get into a hallway with your only option going left. Doing so will tell you the door cannot be opened because an enemy is behind it, then a door will appear in the middle of the room going upward, leading to a T shaped room. This room is a tiny 'puzzle' if you walk up to the lock it will tell you to 'slow down'. What you should be doing is reaching for the door, which then tells you to hit the switch -_-0
I aint kidding
Now you can hit the button and go through the door. No there else nothing else in this room. The boss room gives some more tutorial about the heartbeat meter you have been hearing. The you finally get to the boss.

Tutorial Boss
So how do you defeat this tutorial boss?
A bit of luck, but as the tutorial says, start with the Spirit Liberation, then spam your attack except when the enemy does a charged attack in that case go you physical > master strike which will stagger the opponent and prevent him form moving for 2 turns. Somewhere between 33% and 25% (maybe more hp too) you can now use your Physical > Exorcism: Focused Strike to kill him off. Do note that enemies can be killed with your normal attacks too, you do not need to use exorcism, it just packs a real punch.

TP
If you lose you where maybe unlucky, but most likely you wasted your TP on tornado strike, used the master strike instead of attack, or dod not use master atack when the enemy did a charged attack. Every attack costs TP, and having little of it means your physical attacks do little to no damage against magic foes.

Example of a normal attack with no TP:

Here with Hight TP (After doing Spiritual Liberation):

Somehow having high TP allows you to kill magical enemies with physical attacks but you run out of MP to do magical attacks. What magical attacks you ask? Fair question. Maybe there is more to magic then we know, but for my all we got is Spiritual Liberation for magic.

The heartbeat sound
Also, if, like me, you are getting sick of the heartbeat plingy plongies, feel free to disable them in your menu. To do this open your menu, go to items > Key items > Acoustic adjustment and turn off the heartbeat sounds. The image will still be flashing to indicate something is going on on Kana's side.
Basic fights
Now onto the game.

Multiple Rooms
Note that Kana will be moving around according to the tutorial. Usually the re multiple rooms in 1 area, but Kana cannot progress beyond doors that are locked by a switch. You could use this to farm the area for both XP and exorcism value. According to the tutorial the higher the exorcism rating, the easier time you and Kana will have, however the less XP and items you will earn.

Time passing
Note that time progresses too, so the more HP you lose the more you have to wait to rest. While doing so Kana might be in danger (up to you if you like that or not)
Time does not seem to pass during combat. Neither real time nor based on how many rounds you take, I tried this by not fighting efficiently, instead doing normal attacks and ragging out the fight for a couple of hits compared to 2 hitting the opponents with the below mentioned 'basic strategy'.

Basic starting strategy
So far I noticed there is no reason not to do the following:
  • 1st round: Magic > Spiritual Liberation
  • 2nd round: Physical > Exorcism: Whirling Flurry
  • 3rd round: Profit (Yes we did skip the normal .... step)

Magic attacks!
After clearing the main building, or rather, being kicked out because it was getting dark (No special time with Kana so far) I noticed an item I could equip, called a Catalyst - Darkness 0 which gave me 5 magic attack options other then Spiritual Liberation

Sorry folks, this is as far as I got so far. Feel free to comment if you want to improve the guide. I might update when I get further into the game.
