XXIntroduction
This guide is a work in progress.

This guide will help you obtain every achievement in Wayward Strand. Gameplay is summarized briefly below. The rest of the guide assumes you know how to play the game. The game's map layout and characters are also detailed below.

The actual guide is divided into three sections;
WIP 1. A "Hints" chapter for those who prefer a nudge in the right direction rather than an outright explanation,
WIP 2. An "Achievements" overview with a short description of what is required to obtain each achievement,
WIP 3. A walkthrough detailing exactly how to go about your playthroughs to obtain 100% achievements as fast as possible.

Something for everyone, hopefully. If you have feedback about the guide or would like to contribute information, I'd appreciate it if you left a comment below.
Gameplay
Wayward Strand is a relaxed point-and-click game where each playthrough is unique due to the fact that you cannot be in more than one place at a time. You play as Casey Beaumaris, daughter of head nurse and journalist for her high school newspaper, as she explores an airship-turned-nursing home and its inhabitants and crew. Casey's mother has asked her to help out on the airship by spending time with the patients.

Time
In-game time progresses independently of your actions and each character does the same thing at the same time in every playthrough - what changes is your location. In-game time is paused when you click "Pause" in the top right corner of the screen (or [Esc]) and when you are looking at your notebook.

Notebook
Casey takes detailed notes about any noteworthy information she learns about each of the patients and staff she encounters. A pen icon appears in the lower left corner of the screen whenever Casey makes a note. You can access her notebook during any conversation by picking the option "Look at notebook", or out of conversation by clicking the notebook icon in the lower left corner of the screen. The character pages in the notebook are organized in the order you meet them, meaning the order will vary from player to player and between playtroughs (excluding the first four, which are always The Ship, Mum, Esther and Lily).

Conversation
You choose your answers in conversation by picking any of the conversation bubbles when they appear. You manouver around the airship by clicking and holding the arrows on screen or clicking action bubbles to interact with the environment. If the white field in the "conversaton circle" is getting smaller, you have a limited window of time to respond.

Saving
The game autosaves after each gameplay section. This is stated on screen when you launch the game. The autosave is indicated by a camera icon in the top left corner of the screen.
Map layout
The airship has three accessible levels/floors. You can manouver between levels by using the staircase (left-hand side of the map) or the elevator (right-hand side of the map).

Upper floor
From left to right, the upper floow features the director's office (only accessible when someone is present), the staircase, Tomi's room, Hugo Falk's room (only accessible after Joe asks you to clean it up on day 2), the elevator and the balcony.

Middle floor
From left to right, the middle floor features an office (only accisible when someone is present), the lounge, the staircase, the nurse's station, Mr. Avery's room, Ida's room, the elevator, the dumbwaiter, the cafeteria and the look-out point.

Lower floor
From left to right, the lower floor features the recovery room (only accessible when someone is present), the nurses' break room (only accessible when someone is present), the TV room (only accissible after you have encountered someone present there), the staircase, Esther's room, Dr Bouchard's room, Mr. Preuss' room, the elevator and the old crew quarters with the old crew dumbwaiter and Ted's room (only accessible after Ted shows you).

DAY 1
In-game, this is Friday, January 27th 1978.

Not a missus
As soon as you gain control of Casey, go to Esther's room and have the following conversation:
"Hi again", "We met before", "You really don't remember?", "Explain your task", "I just told you", "Ask about the airship". You get the achievement when Esther responds.

Creature of habit (1/3)
Around 11.50, head to the cafetaria and click "Approach dumbwaiter". Choose "Press..." and then pick one of the soup options. Make note of which soup you pick, as you will need to order the same soup every day for this achievement.

Daredevil (1/2)
Around 12.00, obtain a soup from the dumbwaiter and choose the option "Approach the boy" in the cafetaria to have lunch with Ted. Choose any dialogue options, listen in on the conversation when he asks you to be quiet, and when he asks if you want to see something, say "Okay" to follow him downstairs, then "Just follow him" to gain access to the old crew quarters.

Full up (1/3)
This achievement requires you to refill Tomi's watering can every day. Enter Tomi's room, go through the dialogue options until you get the option to look around. Look at the items in Tomi's room until you get the option "Refill watering can", then choose "Look for a place to refill watering can". TESTING REQUIRED:
  • It's unclear whether this achievement requires you to refill the watering can all three days, or if filling it only on day 2 is enough.





Ilik fan (1/3)
Follow the steps for Daredevil (above). When Ted shows you the old crew quarters, ask him about the area and then as "Can I come?" when he says he's going into the bunk room. Follow him, and when you sit down, click "Look around". Make comments about the comics, circle poster and cola bottles, then ask about the flag.

The real VIP
After lunch, when Ida opens her door again after her nap, visit her and click "Look around". Look at the Toddy the teddy to get this achievement.

In-game, this is Saturday, January 28th 1978.

XXCareful with your words - something is missing here
Around 9, head to Dr. Bouchard's room and stay there until Lily leaves. Ask Dr. Bouchard about the cafeteria. Stay with her until she asks you to leave. Around 12, head to the look-out point in the cafeteria and listen in on Dr. Bouchard's conversation with Mr. Preuss. Around 5, head into Dr. Bouchard's bedroom again and sit with her. Joe will come in to change her IV fluids. Shortly after, Dr. Bouchard will say Preuss' name and wake up. Ask her "Do you need me to get Mr. Preuss?". Sit with her until she says "Fine. There is something you can do for me." Answer "What is it?". When she asks you to recite back her excact words, say "Dr. Bouchard would like to know", "The result of" and "The conversation". Head to the lounge and sit down with Mr. Preuss. Click "Ask Dr. Bouchard's question" and click "Dr. Bouchard would like to know" and "The result of the conversation".

This achievement requires you to refill Tomi's watering can every day. Enter Tomi's room and click "Refill the watering can".

The cleaner
Around 10, stand by the nurses' station. Shortly after, Joe will grab a cardboard box and ask you to follow him. Casey will automatically follow him to Hugo Falk's room. When Joe leaves, choose "Do..." and then pack the plaque, trophy and boots. Look under the bed. You can decide if you want to pack the shield of put it in your bag. The achievement pops when you've packed everything.

Creature of habit (2/3)
Around 11.50, head to the cafetaria and click "Approach dumbwaiter". Choose "Press..." and pick the same soup as yesterday.

Rules of the game
Around 1, stand near the chess board in the cafeteria, and when the prompt appears, click "Approach Mr. Avery". Once you have sat down, ask him "What are you doing?" to get the achievement.

Find yourself
Around 1:50, enter the middle floor office to speak with Dr. Shen. The conversation naturally turns to the photo on your mother's desk, granting you the achievement.

Vile or vial?
Around 5, sit down with Mr. Pruess in the lounge. When he asks, agree to change the tune for him. The achievement pops shortly after.

Head to the old crew quarters around XX and speak to Ted about his comic. Keep asking questions until you've exhausted every dialogue option.

Happens after interview (10.41) but before lunch.

Find Mr. Petigrew and talk to him until he tells you that he'll pay you for your work.
XXDay 3
In-game, this is Sunday, January 30th 1978.

Full up (3/3)
This achievement requires you to refill Tomi's watering can every day. Enter Tomi's room and click "Refill the watering can". If you have done this the two previous days, the achievement pops on day 3.

White lie
This achievement requires that Ted has shown you the old crew quarters. Sometime before 10, find Ida in the old crew quarters and speak to her. When you've spoken to her, head to the nurses' station. Around 10.50, Lily will ask you if you've seen Ida. Choose the option "Tell a white lie" to get the achievement.

Daredevil (2/2)
Around 11, enter the old crew quarters. When Ted goes to sit down, join him. The achievement unlocks when you get back up and walk away.

Creature of habit (3/3)
Around 11.50, head to the cafetaria and click "Approach dumbwaiter". Choose "Press..." and pick the same soup as yesterday to get the achivement. NOTE: This cancels your chance to get the Buorguignon achievement.

Buorguignon
Around 11.50, approach the dumbwaiter in the cafeteria and talk to Devin. Let him know the VIP isn't there and say "Sure" to taking the specially prepared meal. Go to sit at any table - the achievement pops when you sit at any table. NOTE: This cancels your chance to get the Creature of habit achievement. I recommend doing Creature of habit first, then going back to pick up Buorguignon in chapter select.

On the beat
Around 3, head to Dr. Shen's office to conduct your interview. The achievement pops when you're done with the interview and get up to leave.

Florist's apprentice
Around 3, Lily will bring out a cart with flowers to take to each resident's room. Follow her around and make sure to peek into each room as she delivers the flowers (she finishes around 4.10, so bring your patience with you). Lily visits the rooms in the following order: Mr. Avery, Ida, (nurses's station), Esther, Dr. Bouchard, Mr. Preuss, Tomi. The achievement pops shortly after Lily leaves Tomi's room.

The student becomes the teacher
Around 4, head to Avery's room. Hang out with him until he starts asking about your article, then encourage him to write again. As the conversation proceeds, keep encouraging him. You get the achievement when he sits down to start writing.

Balancing the books 3/3
When being told my Mum to say goodbye before you leave, say goodbye to Mr. Avery. He will give you a book and tell you to pay for it in a few years. The achievement pops shortly after.

During my blind playthrough I did encourage Avery and got the book, but not the achievement, so perhaps it is related to Pettigrew who I really only saw on Day 2 and money never came up.
