The Absolute Basics
-What is a special?

Everytime you hit the ball, you gain some meter. Bunts grant 0 bars, hitting the ball normally grants 1, and hitting a bunted ball grants 2. When you have 4 meter (a full bar), your character can do some cool stuff expending that meter.

With the exception of switch, specials are done by pressing the swing button while you are in hitlag, which is the period of time that you are frozen in place hitting the ball.

With this knowledge, we should be able to tackle the complexities of Dice's special head-on.

Dice's special has multiple stages of input and outcomes based on the ball's positioning. They will be covered in the sections ahead.
Step 1
After performing your second swing input Dice's special will be locked and loaded, ready to go as soon as hitlag ends. This is where Step 1 comes into play.

The last directional input you make before the ball leaves your character determines the trajectory of the ball's arc.

At this point, you have 4 different choices with 4 different outcomes.

Forward: Not too shallow, not too wide. Travels a good distance without sailing over heads. The baby bear of forward-facing special arcs.

Up: The lob, good airtime and distance. Great for getting over people's heads or connecting with the ceiling.

Down: Incredibly shallow arc, when swinging from the ground it connects with the ground very fast. I absolutely adore this one.

Back: It lives in a trajectory somewhere between up and forward, but It goes behind you!

Note: If no input is done at all, the ball will default to the forward option.
If your ball hits the ground.
Your ball is now in the air, doing the arc you told it to do. From here, the last stick input you make before the ball hits the ground will determine its trajectory.

You have 3 options

Left: A very shallow and lethal horizontal angle towards the left. This ball is out for blood.

Right: The same as left, but right! Having the choice between both is going to really confuse your oppoent.

Up: It goes...straight up. Great at parties.

This applies to any special that touches the ground, the first input is not mutually exclusive with any of the second inputs.

Note: If no input is made after the ball leaves hitlag, it will always travel towards your character. IE: if you hit it left, it will go right, and vise versa.
If your ball hits the wall or ceiling.
If the ball comes into contact with a wall or the ceiling during its arc instead of the ground, then something else happens.

If the ball comes in contact with the wall, it will ride the wall down until it reaches the bottom corner, then shoot off at a predetermined trajectory. No input will change this.

If the ball comes in contact with the ceiling, it will ride the ceiling into the top corner, then shoot off at a predetermined trajectory.

The direction of your first input determines which corner the ball rides into, any of the forward-facing arcs will send the ball forward, and the back arc will send it back.
In Conclusion
I hope this sheds some light on the specifics and nuances of Dice's special. Now go play Lethal League.

@Rukiro I discovered that you don't actually gotta release down, just hold down and hit jump and you get yourself that nice superjump.
Rukrio Nov 10, 2014 @ 9:21am
something you should add about Dice is his mobility trick or whatever they call the thing that sets how a character moves apart from another. he has a "Super jump", which is triggered by holding down on the ground then hitting jump as you release down. and everybody who's touched him knows he has some fast falling

This is pretty much what I found after playing with him for 5 minutes.

I was wondering if you could change which direction his special went in after it touched the ground; it's good to know that you managed to figure that out. So, with pretty much every character being able to send the ball either left or right, Sonata is the only one out.
