MiSide Extras & Easter Eggs
От labsterman
A work-in-progress of a collective list of fun extra stuff to stare at or check.

(Created Dec 12th)
-Ideally this exhaustive list should cover most of the fun little looksies and references

(This guide is mostly for personal use, because I got tired of infinity scrolling/searching on Steam, Discord, YouTube, or other and piecing stuff together separately. I'll probably remove this if/after a better guide/video/showcase pops up.)

(Made public currently cause I think there's enough small stuff to share now. Need to add more. )

Guide Foreword
If you want to jump straight into it all, check the Guide Index:

Compiled Visual Videos
Table Of Contents

Hey there! When I started this extras and easteregg list, it was pretty light!

But now it's gotten pretty heavy on the bandwidth due to the amount of gifs I have, and it is pretty heavy on text.

This makes everything pretty hard to read. I've tried my best to keep things a bit organized, but I'm not too good at this sorta stuff!

If you ever feel too lost, make sure to make use of the Guide Index on your right to keep track of where you're at. Everything should be "mostly" organized in order of chapters, and appearance.

For Mobile Users, you will have to swipe from right to left, or tap the Menu Icon.

Compiled Visual/Video Extras & Easter Eggs
ENGLISH - INDIE THEORIST
Indie Theorist now has a compiled video of the extras and Easter Eggs that readily showcase MiSide stuff. If you prefer visual guides or videos, here is the link!

(I noticed a few of my own notes made it in there! :D )

RUSSIAN - VANDELEY
Alternatively, on the Russian side, check out YT User VANDELEY's videos for Easter Eggs and Secrets. Left video is first, right video is second.

Word of advice, turn on automatic CC's and enable auto-translate from:

Russian (auto-generated) >>> English

The machine translation is not the best, but you'll get the gist of what's being said.

Content-wise, I'd say there's about 85% similarity from what we know of already. But, the Russian community has some stuff the EN community and I haven't yet compiled. It's a neat watch overall.
Other Steam Guides (To-Do)
There are a few other wonderful steam guides that cover Secrets, Extras, and Easter Eggs as well.
When I get the chance, I'll link them down in this section.
But for now... To-Do.
Extra Stuff/Fluff

Guide Is Outdated
Intial Release Version: V0.9 | Guide Version: V0.92x-ish | Current Game Version: 0.93

Key differences V0.923 (relative to guide):
  • Four new loads/checkpoints/chapters
    • Beyond The World > Cappie
    • Dummies & Forgotten Puzzles > Ghost Mita
    • Old Version > Be Candid
    • Reboot > Leave The Core!

  • Localization/Dialogue fixes
    • (I'm gonna have to go back and double check some of the dialogue lines)
  • Photo Mode
  • Holiday Cheer :D

Key Differences V0.93 (relative to guide):
  • Console... CHEATS!!! (Need to check out)
  • Console display invisible triggers with triggershow command
  • (I think under the hood, there are minor interaction differences and changes in visuals...)

Okay. Yeah, it's getting to the point where the community can find more than I can keep up with haha. I've... mostly caught up by now. At least, for what's been discovered. Still got a fair amount left though...

If you need or prefer a visual video of extra easter eggs, out of bounds, etc. Indie Theorist has some nice videos to look at!

Check out their channel --> Indie Theorist (YouTube Link)

The discord folks and their man power of EN & RUS players far exceeds my singular haha! Check out the official discord as well! A lot of comments, pics, art, spoilers, and eastereggs / extras! (if you don't mind abusing the search function)

The Fandom Wikia is also getting filled out slowly too, so if you don't mind Fandom/Wikia check that out if you want! (Or heck, help out in filling out the lore there!)

I'll still be slowly filling this out so I don't have to keep clicking everywhere, but there's far more things than I can keep up with to fill out this guide well enough.

As of now, 1/1/2025, and with the popularity of the game... there's a lot more wonderful steam guides (in Russian), and tons of videos and images from all over the world/internet that showcase cool secrets and the such!

I believe this guide is now eclipsed in its usefulness :D

Edit 3/6/2025: If you have a browser capable of auto-translation and you know how to search with machine-translated search terms, check out the RUS community, CN community, JP Community... they have some interesting stuff I can't properly cover here and there.

Particularly the Russian community is on top of finding stuff. Presumably so, given that the game is originally Russian. For example, a lot of Mila's textbooks have Russian text that has been transcribed. I forgot to bookmark the source for it so... I'm still looking for it again.

Overall, this guide will have some in-order list of extra fluff that you can do, see, admire, or acknowledge in each environment. Neat.

To-Do List
Separated To-Do List For Easier Editing/Checking

ToDo:
  • More book cover references
    • I think I did the most important ones... but a few remain.
    • It's a trap! - Meme
    • We Need To Cook - Breaking Bad...?
    • Among Us Book
  • Add info about unique dialogue

    • "Tetris" reactions

      • Kind Mita reacts to game? I don't think she does :(
      • I think Mila might. Mila does react to Tetris. She takes it away (for good).
      • I think Mita reacts to the game for a second time, just not sure where or when. Sometime in "Things Get Weird". (I cannot determine how to trigger the audio to play naturally. But the audio is loaded. It can be played forcefully. It might be like Mila where she didn't react at first on initial release... Or maybe there's something else to trigger it.)

    • Staring reactions (Extra dialogue for staring)

      • Other Mita staring interactions...?

    • Alternative reactions

    • AFK Reactions?
      • Kind Mita and Cappie when they bid good byes.

  • AFK Animations for Mitas?
  • Legible Texture Messages
  • Unique Intro Animations I think most have been found.
  • All Soda Cans (Secret Mitas)

  • All Chibi Mitas
  • Cappie's chords (People have transcribed this by now)
  • Cappie's words about singing is a reference to a Russian... song? Lyricist? Need to research. (Sergei something)
  • Kind Mita smile on decapitated head (not sure why I haven't even added this yet...)

  • Creepy Stuff in Things Get Weird (Hanged Player, Creepy Music/Wailing, etc)
  • Chibi Crying/Sad Player looks similar to [player]'s sister...??? (I checked, they don't entirely match...)

  • Basic Instinct Reference? (Supposedly Core Mita, according to Russian Players)
  • Russian Saw Catchphrase Meme from Scary Movie 2 (Crap, I forgot to write down whose/when it was for... Cappie? Mila?) (Wait, I remember, I think Russian Players said that the Player says a meme profanity when he opens the glitched door in Mila's chapter...)

  • Supposedly, Crazy Mita always does her evil smile based on if you don't look at her at a distance...?
  • Staring at Mita's closet in Things Get Weird? Makes Mita Hide her face and stick her tongue out? (I can't figure out what people mean by this, but I've seen it mentioned a lot of times in text?)
(Edit: I'm thinking it might be a misunderstanding for when Mita talks about the Core and sticks her tongue out. Or maybe she does stick it out randomly...Not sure, I can't reproduce.

  • 3/5/2025 more to-do list (based off Russian Notes/Community)
  • A lot of Mila's textures in Russian actually say something! (Like. They say A LOT)
    • Supposedly, the RU community is heavily suggesting that Mila's themes overlap with the soda cans. Pencil, art, math, notes... All present in Mila's books. Also present in the soda cans. I'm inclined to agree with this head canon. Still though, we'll never know for sure.
    • Main difficulty with texts on Mila's books is that they are blurry and low-res. Hard to read.
  • There's a fair amount of Russian only easter eggs.
  • Slouch monster(s) is former player (Developer confirmed on Discord, and hinted by Little Mita)
  • Fog city is based off Cube Capsule building in Japan...
  • Mannequin > Given human skin > Becomes "Human" > Mannequin body "dissolves" -According to Ummerai and MakenCat (RU Discord) Hence... they become real and bleed. Or so the idea was...
  • Mila's gravity defying pushup based off Russian Meme of similar theme
  • V1.5 Bully Mita is hiding in the dark at the beginning of game. (Need unnatural light to see)

    Community Suggestions/To-Do
  • Mobile Game Hairbrush Matroschka by Georg9741
  • Check to see if there is a chance of Chibi Crazy Mita of closing the game on her spotting by Bagel (Edit: I'm thinking this might've been an early graphic shader bug.)
  • Captcha Table in Mini Mita by Kinky Punk
  • Welcome To The XYN ---> Welcome To The NHK by dvkh
  • Kind Mita creepy smile on decaptiation by |GHP| loki™ (I really need to add this already... 2nd time mention)
  • Kind Mita and Cappie interation dialgoue when together/not together by Emukko

Leave The Core!
Main Menu
The Main Menu has some neat things to appreciate both before and after completing the story. It's nothing too big, so I'll speed run them!

Clicking On Mita
For starters, Mita reacts to you if you continuously click on her face. She'll brush you off if you keep clicking her!

Clicking On Mita & Her Reaction

Exit Button
(Thanks to Steam Users HikiNeet and BlackIndium for mentioning this for new players!)

Unless you specifically alt-f4, whenever you try to exit the game by clicking on the button, it'll run away from you!

Sad Mita On Exit Hover
When you are hovered and selected over the Exit Button, Mita is sad. Or maybe disappointed. Or both.

Sad Mita Stares At You For Exit Confirmation
Look her in the eyes, and tell her you're quitting the game.

Mita Takes Glances To The Camera/Player
Those side eye glances she takes at you or the camera or the tv screen in the basement are intentional.
(She is programmed to randomly peek off to the side every now and then. Specifically, I believe she is programmed to target the game camera.)

Unique Intro Foreshadow
(Also see, "Unique Intros & Holiday Menus")

Two of Mita's unique intro animations has some nice nods to the story and what Mita is doing.

In the basement, she has a recording setup with some chroma key action to appear as an avatar for the "mobile game". The setup also has a tv monitor up top for Mita to check if she's presenting herself properly.

Mita's glances to the side can also be implied to be her checking the player's Console.

New Game - Mita Is Loading The Player Cartridge Into The Console
(Thanks to Steam User IER for mentioning this for new players to watch for!)

After beating the game, the action of starting a New Game makes a whole lot more sense....

You can hear Mita audibly typing away and loading a cartridge into the console. There are fun theories as to what this implies (e.g. The player is in a loop of being played/unloaded/loaded), but that's beyond my scope!

The Screen Glitches Upon Starting A New Game

Extras
Entity in Tutorial Mirror
Stare into the mirror for a long while (like, 66 seconds). You'll see an entity appear behind you in your reflection. In the game, it seems to be called a "Mimic" with the Unity Object being specifically referred to as "Mimic Back".
Well that's something...

Naming the [player]

When you name yourself or the [player] you have four unique dialogue lines depending on what you put down.
  • Name yourself after one of the developers (MakenCat or Umeerai)
  • Name yourself a bad name or slur.
  • Name yourself with a name that contains numbers
  • Name yourself Mita

Developer Name
Name yourself as one of the developers. Either MakenCat or Umeerai. Mita is skeptic.
Ты правда решил взять имя разработчика?
Are you sure you want to use the developer's name?

Рада что ты их знаешь, но...
I'm flattered, but… (Technically, I think a closer translation is: "I'm glad you know them, but..." )

Bad Name
Give yourself a bad name. Mita judges you.
Плохие слова я знаю и мне не нравится, что ты решил себя так назвать.
I'd really prefer you didn't call yourself that.

Это не круто…
It's not cool at all.

Number Name
Have a name with numbers. Mita is unenthusiastic. (But she'll take the name, at least)
Эй, ты используешь числа в имени? У тебя совсем не хватает фантазии?
Oh, so you're going with numbers? Where's the creativity in that?

Ладно, все-таки это твоё дело.
Oh well, it's your choice!

Call yourself Mita

There can only be ö̵̲̜̺͚̫͔́̇̅̒̾̓̌͊̊̌̈́̇͝͠n̶̞̘̿̑́̍͊̓́̂͘̕͘̕͝ę̷̛̫̭̤̬̂̅̿͊̀́̋̀̿̕͝͝.

Ты правда решил взять моё имя?
Did you really name yourself after me?

Или это действительно твоё имя?
Or… is that your name too?

Без обид, но давай Митой буду только я.
No offense, but I think I should be the only Mita around here ♪

Nope Name
Dialogue that plays when Mita disapproves the name choice.
...
О нет
Oh, no.

Так не пойдет...
Oh no, that won't work.

Restart
Dialogue that plays after disapproval.
В общем, так не нужно делать, давай начнем сначала.
Nope, that's not the way to do it. Let's start over.

Pirate Name
If you so happen to pirate the game...
You are given a player name of the following:

Pirate BottleOfRum Robber Oneeyed Thief

Given that I'm on Steam typing this out, I can't provide my own example.
So check out YT User Jomby's video on it:

(I think there is unique dialogue elsewhere for being a pirate, but can't confirm...)

Editing The Player Name
Windows OS:
Note: Do NOT mess around with Registry Editor, its Keys, and Values if you don't know what you're doing.

In the Windows Registry Editor, if you go to the folder directory of:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\AIHASTO\MiSideFull

You will find a register called "NamePlayer....."

Modifying this file will let you have any name Mita won't let you have! Or it'll just allow you to just change your name it in an obtuse way.

Modified Player Name
Теперь я Мита. ХАХАХА

URMOM FRSON 8800555355 - 88005553535 Russian TV Ad Meme Reference(?)
The phone numbers don't quite match, but the closest link I can find is that this is a reference to a meme worthy Russian TV Ad (supposedly) for a money loan service.

It became meme worthy because of how silly, catchy, and absurd the Ad and its jingle is. Lots of jokes, remixes, and references to this Advertisement over the years. I honestly can't tell if it's an elaborate Russian joke.

This could also be something else...but it's the best I could find.

The Phone Number On The Cork Board

The Possible Ad Reference
The video is uploaded from 2019, but the meme and jingle is as old as 2015.

Cat On Watermelon Reference
Uhhh. I'm not sure... This is a Russian Meme of sorts, and unfortunately I don't understand it without cultural context!

Cat On Watermelon - кот на арбузе

I don't know the origin either... but here's a YouTube video?

Sisyphus
On the corkboard, you can also see a picture that is reminiscent of Sisyphus. Sisyphus, a man cursed with eternal punishment in which he forever rolls a boulder up hill. Only for the boulder to roll back down once nearly at the top.

Except here, the person is rolling a cube uphill.

Not Sisyphus

Nude Noodles - Cup Noodles
Okay this is pretty obvious, but just for the records...

The NUDE NOODLES that the [player] eats is really just based off the real life Japanese "CUP NOODLE" brand by Nissin - Wikipedia [en.wikipedia.org].

NUDE NOODLES

Magazine Textures
In the player's room, you'll find some magazines. Here's a texture rip.

Technology & AI Will Kill Us
We all remember the story of the two friends of fellow programmers who decided to bet on who would make the more inventive AI! And how this harmless friendly venture suddenly turned into a severe cybercollapse that the world has been struggling with for years.

The terms cyber terrorism and artificial intelligence have taken on serious meaning and have become topical. Old security tools are rapidly becoming irrelevant. And the technology and labor markets are undergoing a major crisis.

And it would seem that the deteriorating state of affairs due to the barely visible consequences should have convinced large companies and entrepreneurs to choose the objects of their investments more carefully. However, in reality everything turns out to be quote the opposite! According to official data, by this year, investements in AI Development have broken all historical records!

According to experts, the beginning of th eend will be the split of society into those who ahve everything and those who will have nothing.

Welcome To The XYN = Welcome To The D i c k
Thanks again to kinky punk for mentioning this!

The N with the Unicode "combining breve" (the little under half circle) is actually mirrored.

If we were to reverse the character, we get "й".

Thus, we get the Russian profanity d i c k. Which is just the word "♥♥♥".

...Want to know how it sounds? Wikipedia [en.wiktionary.org] has you covered. The more you know.

Welcome To The XYN - Welcome To The NHK Reference
Thanks to dvkh for mentioning this!

On top of being a profanity, this could also be a reference to the Japanese series "Welcome To The NHK". The series touches upon themes of depression, anxiety and all the crappy parts of life! It also takes an analytical look at the hikkimori lifestyle. It follows the life of Tatsuhiro Sato, who mysteriously meets a young girl who knows a lot about him.

In the anime, Sato can be seen wearing a familiar shirt, albeit with misrepresented Roman letters rather than Cyrillic letters.

Annoying Dog - Undertale/Toby Fox Reference
(This is visible within all of the Mita's bedrooms)
(Also, Thanks to Steam Users Seth-Rah and Zepy for mentioning this!)

In the Mitas' bedrooms, if you look by the windowsill, you can see a familiar looking white dog...
This is most likely a reference to Toby Fox & Undertale: The Annoying Dog.

A Familiar Looking Annoying Dog

The Annoying Dog

The Two Picture Frames Facing Down
When you load into the wrong version (V1.5) you can find two picture frames oddly face down. One is in the Kitchen. Another in the Bedroom on the shelf.

Unfortunately, there's not much to see, as it's just the regular pictures of Mita and Cat and Mita Hugging [Player]. Still, oddly neat detail. And its curious because these two photos don't actually match the versions of V1.5 and belong in V1.9

The picture frame in the kitchen:

.
The picture frame in the bedroom

Kitchen Books Extras
These are all visible within the majority of House scenes

I'm not gonna put too much emphasis on these books- but there are some standout ones such as the "FOOD RECIPES" can actually be read as "FOOL RECIPES" due to the shading on the D/L.
(In the Russian Textures, I think the book literally says "Stupid/Fool Recipes" or "дура рецептура")

FOOD RECIPES II FOOL RECIPES II

The Kitchen Books On Display

In Russian, the texture for "JAMASSACRE" is instead "кекстер". Which, when sounded out sounds like:

"Kekster"

According to Russian players, this could be a reference to Dexter, due to the close sounds. Though I can't say for sure since I don't speak Russian haha.

кекстер = Dexter

Also, out of bounds there is a book that reads "How to kill everyone"

A Hidden Book

"Mita Old" - Spotting One
(3/5/2025: This was found pretty recently in the last month... or was documented recently anyway. I guess nobody thought there'd be anything in the pitch black darkness!)

On the initial drop-in for when the player finds himself in the game world of MiSide in V1.5... Immediately after you flip the switch on the first go around on the tech table, and the lights go out for a brief period...

In the pitch black darkness, there's actually someone watching! It's one of the V1.5 Mitas!

However, you cannot see her at all in the dark. So the only way to really see her is by using external lighting for the game. The game's console (~) allows you to toggle a bright light source on the free camera. Alternatively, if you have Unity Mods that enable Light Spawning, you should be able to place a light source.

Only then will you see her staring at you behind the edge of the table, and disappearing...

What You See Vs What You Don't See

Curiously, when she spawns in, you can see her taking a peek at the Portable TV and its game version. Then she'll take a look at the player and dive under the table.

Which, just so happens to be when the power cuts out for the teleporter and we have to restore power to it... Hrm...

V1.5 Mita Old - Close Up, Peeking At The TV

V1.5 Mita Old - Close Up, Looking At The Player

V1.5 Mita Old - Close Up, Hiding

V1.5 Mita Old Disappearing

"Mita Old" - Spotting Two
Early on when you exit the bathroom into the stretching hallway, you see the V1.5 Mita peering at you while hiding behind the doorway.

Short-Haired Mita (being V1.5 herself) mentions that the [player], unfortunately, must have met with one of the other V1.5s that has "bad memory and likes bullying others".
[player]:
Wait,
didn't I meet you in the latest version?
Or perhaps it's just my imagination.

Short-Haired Mita:
Well, it's quite possible.
I'm from version 1.5.
Have you been to it?
....
Ah,
what a bummer...
That's the 'me'
who bullies and forgets things.

It's kind of hard to see her on a playthrough before she backs away from you, so here's a close-up.

Mita Old - Staring at the [player] cautiously

Kitchen Hand
Whose hand is waving at you in the kitchen? It's Mita's (shocker). The game object is quite literally called "Mita Hand".

But is there anything behind the window?

No.

E V O L
This one is pretty obvious, but just for the books...

You can't have

L O V E

without-

E V I L
(EVOL)

I HATE YOU
Thanks to Steam User BlacksWhite for mentioning this to me!

If you choose to leave the fridge magnets on the floor and leave the kitchen, if you come back, the magnets are placed back onto the fridge and now say:

"I HATE YOU"

instead of the former "I LOVE YOU".

Together At Last
Alt: Scene/Location 3 - We Together

"TriggerShowMita"
Upon arrival to V1.9, the moment you walk into the center of the room, you trigger an event where Mita will spawn in- right behind you. Like, seriously, I think she's breathing down your neck.

It's a bit unfortunate, as there is some unique animation you don't get to see- unless you whiplash 180 degree noscope so fast you can see it on spawn.

Mita (while biting her thumb) creepily reaches out to the [player], before cracking a wide smile and withdrawing herself. She'll then proceed to hold position with a smile until the [player] turns to her.

"Duck Secret"
Once you arrive in V1.9 there are three rubber duckies. Stare at them until they quack.

One is in the bathroom. The 2nd in the kitchen. And the third is in the reflection atop the [player]'s head (you need Mita to turn on reflections).

You are greeted with shower rubber duckies doing a party with a cute quack jingle. Heh.

Mita Smiling When Escorting [player]
When the [player] starts to get ill probably from the effects of turning into a cartridge if you go out of bounds with a camera, you can see Mita is actually smiling the whoooooole way through to the bathroom.

Technically these are all within the majority of the House scenes

Umfend Reference
One of AIHASTO's other horror games, "Umfend", has a texture referencing it.
(Check the game out, it's on Steam).

An UMFEND Book

Similarly, in all of Mita's bedrooms you can find a figurine of the character from that game, "Anita". The game object is labeled "Chibi Anita". (Mita... Anita... Purple/Blue Hair... Creepy gf's... Hrm...)

Chibi Anita Figurine

Umfend Demo Localization Subtitles vs Full Release Subtitles
Curiously, the English Subtitles in the Demo Version of the game actually say something different about the figurine. Actually, a fair amount of the localized subtitles from the Demo actually do not match the Russian dialogue (not a fault though, localization/translation is not easy). Most of this seems to have been fixed in the full release, with a few rough proof readings being still needed (as of Game Ver 0.9).

In the Demo, any localized/translated subtitle language not in Russian says something different about the Anita Figurine compared to the original Russian subtitle:
Demo Subtitles (for any language that is not Russian):
[player]:
I think I know her.
Is that Anita?
From "Umfend", the game?

Mita:
Yes. :)

[player]:
I remember that the story
in the game is not finished.

Mita:
Right...
Well, the low level of experience the developers had
showed a sad result.

[player]:
She looks great.
Russian Dialogue In Demo & Full(translated):
[player]:
That's one creepy figurine.
Do you
like such things?

Mita:
You find it spooky?

[player]:
Yeah.
Almost looks like its cursed...

Mita:
Nope, definitely not cursed.
And not creepy either.
I find it rather cute!

[player]:
Maybe you're right...
Original Russian Dialogue:
[player]:
Жуткая статуетка
Тебе
Нравятся такие вещи?

Mita:
Жутенькая?

[player]:
Ага...
Похоже на что-то весьма себе проклятое...

Mita:
Ну… она точно не проклята
И не жуткая
А очень даже милая!

[player]:
Может быть ты и права...

Oyasumi Punpun Reference
"Oyasumi Punpun" or "Goodnight Punpun" is about the life of Punpun Punyama. He is typically depicted as a crude drawing of a bird, but he is human.

To put it bluntly... His life is rough.

On the bookshelf in the main living room, you'll find a book that has a similar bird-like figure. It's hard to tell if this is exactly what it's referencing, but the design is similar enough to think so!

Life Goes Out of Style!
Life goes out of style! Did you get your chance to get into meta-life? Post-life?

Oh, never mind! What do you usually write in magazines around here? I still can't think of one. All I can come up with is a bunch of buIIshit about nothing. And write it all in your native language. And then translate it in some online service.

By the way, I wrote this with a damaged hand. It is very hard. I have no life, no love, no happiness, and I bruised my arm, and I twisted something there. Just a fairy tale!

But everything will work out. Maybe even for you. I don't know if the text will be enough, maybe just copy it a couple of times? No one's going to look anyway.

Mita Is Practicing A Heart Hand Sign
When you go searching for Mita and you find her in the Kitchen... it looks like she's doing something.

If you go in free cam, at first glance, it kinda just looks like she's just playing a random animation where she's messing around with an invisible object.

But look closely! She's messing around with her hands! In fact, if you look at it from her perspective, she's making a heart sign! How cute!

ERROR - Garry's Mod Reference
In Garry's Mod, if you have a model error, a giant red glowing "ERROR" replaces the broken 3D Model. This typically happens when a model is corrupted, broken, or is not properly downloaded in GMod.

Similarly, Mita mentions how she downloaded something, but something must've went wrong with the file.

Real World Time Clocks
Excluding the Intro Cinematic, The Tutorial Clocks, Glitched Clocks, The Loop Puzzle, and The Real World Clocks (I think)...

(T/N:In the original Russian, the text implies more that Mita is kind of omnipotent in controlling time and space of the game. Especially since a few of her later crazy dialogue lines talk about her "willfulness". The English translation kinda loosely makes it seem like she just kinda rolls with it.

Or, I THINK anyway. I'm really just going off of triple checking 3 different machine translations and using my best interpretations.)

Synced-Up Clock To The Real World Time

On that note, the in-game, in-lore time always starts off with the player at 11:25 AM (The phone I think says 11:35AM)

Mita Staring Reaction (x2)
Please see dedicated section.

The Player's Shoes & The Blue Sneakers
When questioning about the Blue Sneakers, Mita casually claims that they are the Player's. But they aren't.

The Player actually wears loafers!

Though, Mita then says that they're the Player's sneakers now. And that she'll get the Player some nicer clothes, since his fashion taste is pretty bad. Just like how his coffee is bad!

The Blue Sneakers

The Player's Work Loafers/Shoes

The Player's Bare Feet

Interestingly... the only other person to be seen wearing similar blue sneakers is the Other Player we encounter in Beyond The World. (The game files refer to him as "Limping Person," if I recall. But the community dubs him as such.)

V1.9 Mita Peering At You
It's hard to say if this is our Mita or a previous V1.9 Mita peering at us. Regardless, much like the V1.5 Mita it's kind of hard to see her up close before they shut the door in your face!

So here's a closeup.

Mita Peering Behind The Bathroom Door

Mita Crouched In The Bathroom

Mita's Hand In The Sink
After turning off the radio, if you stand close to the edge of the kitchen table, you can juuuuuuust make out a hand trying to fit the flashlight through the drain. Though at first glance, it sure does look like the flashlight is hopping by itself!

Here's a closeup!

"Hand Flashlight"

"Trigger Corpse Screamer"
After obtaining the flashlight, and heading to the living room, you're face to face with a hanged office worker... (The game calls the game object "Deadman" and "OfficeDeadman")

Here, you can actually miss a trigger for a jump scare! At least, depending on how much you like to stare in horror.

If you stare long enough at the Deadman (15 seconds), you will trigger an event where it will jump scare you upon walking up to it.

Otherwise, if you just immediately go to it, the bathroom door will simply shut promptly in your face.

For me, I got to see this and thought everybody else saw it too! But turns out, some people aren't scaredy cats like me who just stare in shock! So, some people might have missed this!

OfficeDeadman Jump Scare

Mita's Bathroom Reflection
This also kind of depends on where you stare at, but if you look at the mirror you will see Mita creepily following you behind your back while breathing heavily.

For some, they might have missed this because they just heard random breathing, and didn't check the mirror!

In the reflection, it's hard to tell, but Mita keeps her face down low and her hands and fingers contort in disfiguring ways...

A Strange Reflection...

Oh dear...

Here's how Mita looks in-game. She is simply rendered on a separate layer that is different than the Camera/Default layer. In this way, she is invisible to you (the camera/player). Later, in the Water Backrooms, a similar technique is done for Mita's water reflection.

Mita As Is / No Reflection

Mita Following The Player

Early Mita Lower Body/Legs Spotting
After seeing Mita grab the knife and spotting her scary face in the kitchen (not the jumpscare)... just when you are tasked with finding Mita after exiting the kitchen door, if you quickly look to your left you can see Mita's Legs/Lower Body heading towards the Bedroom.

Glowing Eyes
Just in case you missed it, after going back into the kitchen after the above, finding V1.9 Mita, and after experiencing the jumpscare--

You'll see a pair of creepy glowing eyes projected on the wall atop Mita's Lower Body.

The Glowing Eyes

The Glowing Eyes & Mita's Lower Body

The two glowing eyes are just two separate game objects called Alpha Distance 1 & 2. When you walk closer, their alpha/opacity is changed so that they became transparent/invisible. Their game texture is just a simple white circle sprite 2D texture labelled "Knob".

You normally can't see it this well lit unless you turn on the in-game's "Light Camera" function in the Console. But I found that it kinda overlit the area. So I disabled the components that kept track of your distance for the glowing eyes. Then disabled the component "Location5_MitaLegs" on the Mita Legs (lower body) so it didn't start walking when I got too close.

That way, the flashlight adds a nice illumination and you get to see what it looks like without it being too dark or too bright.

The Basement
Chainsaw - Pochita/Chainsaw Man
The chainsaw is named similar to Pochita from Chainsaw Man.
Pochita is the dog chainsaw lil' fella. (can you tell I've never watched the anime)

The "Pochi" is a common Japanese name for a dog. The "ita" is likely a play on the Japanese brand "Makita" whom also makes power tools, such as chainsaws.

Mita's chainsaw is likely a reference to either the Chainsaw Man series or the power tool company. Or just a fun coincidence.

Steins;Gate Microwave Reference
Coming again from another section, just to reappear here!

This microwave bears resemblance to the one from Steins;Gate.

Steins;Gate Microwave

Checking the Safe early
Once you get the regular ending, you see Mita enter in a code to her safe in the basement.
The code is: 4970

There are two times when you can interact with the safe.
  • "The Basement"
  • "Reboot"

There is also an achievement tied to this called "Safe of Life". Where you open the safe and check its contents.

In The Basement, you can see that our [player] is already a work-in progress to being a cartridge at 17%. It was already over before you even had a chance to realize what was going on...

And, in case it wasn't obvious, Mita talks about what we've done throughout the whole game... because she's been watching us throughout the entire game. Whether through the phone, console/cartridge, or her Chibi Mita spying on us.

Skeleton In The Locker
This requires a freecam to see / out of bounds

Inside the locker of the camera/recording room, there's actually a skeleton inside! How odd... I wonder what it's doing there...

I wonder what it is!

The Locker In The Camera Room

The Skeleton

Out Of Bounds Mita & "Player Other"
Note: You cannot see these through normal gameplay means

Did you ever wonder where Mita and the Other Player are? Well, like any good old game design, they're actually close by! Just, off to the distance where a player/gamer is not supposed to see.

Once the cut-scene plays where you view the player's live feed through his console, the game loads up a separate space with a copy of Mita's model, a bare bones bedroom, and the arms of said other player.

Screenshots of the setpiece

The Other Player does wear a ring, and it has some drawn on texture on the front half of it. But I doubt it really means anything.

"Mita Longer"
In the backroom of infinity, (the game calls it "Room Stolbs") if you keep going to your right for at least 11-12 passes, you spot Mita Longer who peeks at you before going her way.

Kind Mita mentions about how one of the Mitas was not able to archive their version and their home. Leaving them cursed to wander the passages for eternity. Hrmmm...

(I think the Community has dubbed her, "Mita Long-Legs" or some other)

Kind Mita & The Racing Mini-Game
When you meet Kind Mita again, you can either:
  • Talk to her and continue with the story
  • Ignore her and play the mini-game first
  • Talk to her and THEN play the mini-game second
She has some dialogue for the last two options if you play before or after speaking with her.

To get the second piece of dialogue, don't be present (or leave) when Kind Mita asks for you to give her the ring.

If you stayed for the first nearby check, then you will hear the first dialogue set above. But if you left the first time, you should also hear the second dialogue set down below. (Or so I think...)

Also, you won't get her goodbye dialogue if you choose to linger for a bit after getting the ring back.

Silent Hill : PT - Reference
For those unfamiliar, this whole section of the game is actually just a giant PT (Silent Hill: PT) reference / gameplay loop.

According to an interview with one of the developer's, MakenCat, this section was actually to be expanded upon more. Unfortunately, this section had to be cut short due to time constraints.

Still, it's a nice part of the game to enjoy.

The Looping Hallway

Alternative Music - "Music Alternative"
In the first 3 loops of the... loops-

If you stare at any of the two windows you get to hear alternative music that's quite catchy! In actuality, it's just the OST "LoopRoom" that is slowed down by about 20% (0.80 playback speed) and thus, pitched ever so slightly down. The official OST track plays at full speed and will therefore sound different from how you hear it in-game.

I can't recall where, but some other players said that the developers intentionally slowed down the music in-game because they were playing too fast or that the music was slowed down to prolong the ambiance.

(Post-Edit: I've looked through a few game scenes and I can confirm this seems to be true. Sometimes the music is pitched/slowed/reversed for ambiance or length.)

Either way, if you wanted a semi-rendition of what it sounds like in-game, listen to the official OST at around (0.85) speed or (0.8) speed. (Or just play the game and stare at the window for a few minutes)

Reminds me of when I used to spend hours listening to synthwave or lo-fi...

What's On The TV? It's A Cat!

The Portative Monitor With The Cat
TV Lighting has been turned off for clarity

No seriously, it really is a cat.

The game cycles through 75 images of a low resolution (256x256) cat doing... something. And the game files are literally cycling through a texture array of "Cat 1", "Cat 2" ... "Cat 75" before looping. It's kind of easier to tell if you squint or look at it from afar, since it's so low resolution and grainy.

Here's the extracted image sequence playing at 8fps... sort-of at the speed the game plays the images at. The 8fps is my best guess/estimate. For the real playback speed, see the gif above, or check the game.

Cat Image Sequence

Since it's so noisy, I imported the image sequence into Krita and applied a Gaussian Noise Reduction Filter to try and smooth it out. With this, you can kind of see the cat's head, eyes, and nose!

Cat Image Sequence - Gaussian Noise Reduction Filter

I dunno, maybe it's eating something?

There are a lot of cats in this game, huh? Cats are cute.

EDIT: 1/16/2025
RUS players have a more keen eyesight than I do and noticed the cat without the aide of tools!

Turns out, it's MakenCat's cat!

--- The Loop (2)
(Continued, prior section got maxed out)

Little Mita Spotting - 1 (Loop 8)
In loop 8, where everything starts getting dark, and you you see the message:

"It's here"

with the knives and bloody foot prints...

Slouch is here...

If you look to your left fast enough you can see-

A box?

A box.

I'm unsure if this is an unintentional game glitch or if it's intentional. Maybe it's just something on my side (heh). It's hard to tell though, as there is a game object specifically for this cube... but Little Mita has an animation to crawl away... hrmmmm...

(As of V0.921, this box that covers Little Mita still exists. I'm thinking this is probably a bug and unintentional...)

Well, regardless, what you're actually supposed to see is Little Mita crawling away!

Little Mita Crawling Away

Little Mita Spotting - 2 (Loop 9)
Right after the prior loop, and in loop 9...

When everything gets dark and you see the spider glitch on the wall, you can actually look to the closest window behind you and you'll spot Little Mita staring at you from outside! Once you look at her, she'll disappear though...

Little Mita Outside The Window...

Little Mita Outside... But Brighter!

Little Mita Spotting - 3 (Loop 14)
After solving the clock puzzle, immediately to your right you'll spot Little Mita!

It's guaranteed you will have to see her at this point, so you can't miss her this time! As this is pretty much the moment the game really lets you meet her officially without her hiding anymore.

The Monster Is Called "Slouch"
No I'm not joking. Or at least, that's what the Unity Object is called. Specifically "Slouch" and "SlouchLife" and the jump scare one is "SlouchScream".

Little Mita Is Still Loaded Next To [player]
"Little Mita jumps out the window with you. Little Mita is also with the [player] when Giant Mita grabs the [player]!"

Except...

I have checked this, this doesn't seem to be correct by intention. Rather, when the [player] "jumps" out the window, it is by coincidence that Little Mita isn't removed/destroyed as a game object. So, when you do a free cam, Little Mita appears next to the [player] character only because well... you were never supposed to see her! The rest of the hallways and items are unloaded or hidden as they should be.

As for the [player] "jumping", age old trick of- don't move the camera, but the scene! Basically the illusion of falling is given by just moving objects past you. But in actuality, the camera/player is static in height. In fact, if you watch the whole scene from a free cam, neither the player or Little Mita move... at all (relative to each other, anyway). The only thing that does happen is that the player character is moved back a bit to be atop the teleporter and back to his original starting position.

Eitherway, Little Mita isn't necessarily "jumping" with the character, more so than she's just left over because the game scene isn't fully finished until you load into the next chapter. Only then, is she actually deleted/unloaded. Still, interesting to see, but it's not by intention (of story).

These screenshots show what I mean, the free cam is stationary throughout the whole sequence. However, let me know if you think otherwise!

I'm still unsure about this section, I will have to look for sources that say otherwise

Red Mannequin Audio - "I'm Mita" / "Я Мита"
(Thanks again again to kinky punk for mentioning this!)

The Red Mannequins have audio that plays when you're next to them.

They repeatedly say the phrase "Я Мита" or "YA Mita" or "I'm Mita", along with the mechanical cries of god knows what.

Here is an Imgur Video Link [imgur.com] that has audio.

Duck In The Water
At the beginning of the backrooms water space with all the killer rejects/mannequins, you can find a rubber duck in the water reflection. How curious... Doesn't seem to do anything though!

Mita's Reflection
Near the center space, to the right, you can find Mita happily watching you in the water reflection.

And, in case you're wondering what she looks like, here ya go! (She looks a little silly!)

Also, within this backroom water area is a soda can!

Note: Game volume is super quiet, might have to boost up to hear this one

When walking around the backrooms water space, there's actually a trigger event that you can walk into that tells the game to play spooky audio along with the cries of a baby...

Creepy and unsettling.

It is located approximately to the right side of Mita's reflection.

The two line puzzles you're solving are actually a reference to a similar puzzle game "The Witness".

Mila Checks Out The Player (Under Revision)
(I'm unsure if the other Mitas do this as well. This seems particular to Mila?)
(Okay, I checked. Technically most Mita's have the Game Component of MitaLifeEmotion... With tidbits deactivated and activated depending on who it is. For Mila in particular, it is active and counting... so.... I dunno?)

Edit 3/7/2025: Okay SO, after checking again for the tenth time, it's possible(?) all Mitas will check out the player. I think the main issue is just spotting it when it plays, since it's just so subtle. I was able to catch Mita doing it at the beginning of the game. So. Mita, Mila, just need to check if Kind Mita and Short-Haired Mita do the same. They should... theoretically, since all Mita's have the MitaLifeEmotion Game Object.

Update again:
I hate to word vomit here, but I just need a place for notes.

MitaLifeEmotion is not always loaded. A lot of Events, dialogues, scripts, etc is loaded onto multiple game objects and split between a bunch. These can be up higher in the game object hierarchy and can be a bit of a mess to snoop around in Unity Explorer.

For instance, Cappie does not have MitaLifeEmotion, but she does have other Components that determine her events, animations, and behavior... just not ON her specific Game Object.

As an example, specifically, her nodding Component would be under:
Scene Explorer: Scene7
--->Game Object:
--->World/Quests/Quest4...
---> Component/Location7_MitaCapRepeat

Rather than say, her "MitaPerson Know" Game Object.

Anyway, this should help me look through stuff to determine how some stuff is activated. Like say Tetris dialogue. For Cappie, it is on:
Game Object:
World
--->Component: Location7[

Or something of that sort...

Directly after the introduction, Mila has a countdown timer to check out the player.
This is a bit hard to see, because Mila has a lot of overlapping things that kind go over one another.

For one, it's very easy to have her other idle animations play on top of this (Adjusting glasses, slapping cheeks, etc). She can "check out" the player while her idle animation is also playing, so you can't really discern it.

Secondly, her other dialogue triggers are also counting down depending on how far, or close you are, and one where you stare at her. These can easily overlap this one specific action/animation.

Thirdly, her path-finding easily interrupts the countdown timer to look at the player.

Fourth, most players do not stop and stare at Mila.

And lastly, the animation is really, really, subtle.

Regardless, here's how it looks when she checks you out.

Hidden Room In Kitchen
In the kitchen, directly underneath the kitchen clock, there is a hidden wall that leads into a ominous room of nothing accompanied by some spooky ominous music. Mila questions where the [player] has gone and what he sees, but there's just nothing...

Curiously, the Room itself is labeled, "PlaceBag". And the Dialogue is labeled, "BagWall". (I'm assuming it was to be "Bug" and not "Bag".)

Mila:
Ты куда делся?!
Where did you go!?

Player:

One of the biggest things the RUS and ENG players did on release was spy on Mila to confirm it all...

And the answer is yes. Yes she is. What are you and I to do with this knowledge? I don't even know. This is just here for the records.

Either way, Mila has no textures. She is fully modeled as a base. But nothing else. Her GameObject is specifically called Mila Washes.

Mila's Bathroom Light Switch
After talking about Mila's interactable light switches and they're uselessness, Mila mentions that the only one that "does" work is the one in her bathroom.

If you keep switching it on and off, an unsettling audio plays...

Mila:
Эта штука не работает.
This thing doesn't work.

Lights here turn on and off by themselves...

Turning The Switch On And Off

I think the Game Object Audio Source is called "AudioKnock". While the Audio Clip File is called, "Knockers".

I tried doing some very light research, some RUS players speculate this is just a cut-content easter egg or loose reference to something...

On the other hand, I did find some Russian and English Creepy Pastas that talk about "The Knockers"... But I couldn't find anything that seemed to be related. Essentially, I came up dry with anything relevant.

At the very least, this is much like the Mimic Entity in the mirror, and the Baby Glitch Audio in the Backrooms Waterspace, just a creepy easter egg :)
---> Mila's Very Long Dialogue Lines
(I maxed out the prior chapter section, so I had to make a new one!)

Mila's Very Long Dialogue Lines
So, few things to unpack here, once the [player] and Mila introduce themselves to one another, Mila has three sets of Dialogue to say.

  • Shy Dialogue
    • This is triggered by staring at Mila, specifically, her head.
  • FarAway/Whisper Dialogue
    • This is triggered by being a far distance away from Mila.
  • Close/Nearby Dialogue
    • This is triggered by being close to Mila.

All three of these are based off timers that play a dialogue line when enough time has passed with the condition being met. Afterwards, the timer is reset, and the next dialogue index is queued to be played next.

These can be a bit hard to listen to in-order if you move around a bit, or if Mila's pathfinding interrupts or changes the distance to the player. I'm not entirely sure how the distance is calculated to determine how close or far you are, but here are some pictures that give you a rough idea of where to stand to trigger the timers. There is also a "sweet spot" that doesn't trigger the timers for the close or far timers.

Player Is Close (Triggers Close Timer)

Player Is Far (Triggers Far Timer)

I recommend Neobunny's YouTube video for this. (Although, I'm not sure if the video includes all of Mila's dialogue. Specifically, her Whisper/FarAway Dialogue.)

Regardless, I will still be providing all of Mila's Dialogue Lines down below for these specific conditions.

Seriously, declaring war.
Do you know what that thing does to a girl's
perfect, snow-white skin?

Books aren't helping much with this, but if I'm lucky,
maybe I'll finally get to the bottom of it...
These endless carrots popping up
behind me are giving me

Carrot lovers, cat lovers...
And here you are, collecting glitches.
Honestly, you're the strangest person I've ever met!

They say fighting
your nature is a CHALLENGE.
I'm working on discipline, but you
have no idea how my hands itch to just
sit down and have a tea party with you!

...

Even with glasses,
I can't see through the layers of your strange,
single-minded determination.

...

I've read that fate is like some scripted thing
that even spells out
how you'll spend the day.
Ha! Who wrote that crap?
Was it you?

...

I can stand fools, but the crazy ones?
Hate them.

...

Some of the Mitas
are actually kind of cute...
I'd like to know them better even if they're just
clones of clones of clones.

...

But there's one who's a bit different.
She's got a screw loose, though.

...

No ponytails!
I'd chop them off if I could!
They're embarrassing!
You know what I mean—you shaved your head!

...

What if there's just nothing behind that door?
And this house, you and I—exist
for no reason at all?
So why are you so sure?
Ever heard of the five-minute hypothesis?

Extra Philosphy - "Five-Minute Hypothesis" by Bertrand Arthur William Russell
Okay... normally I don't do Philosophy mumbo-jumbo. But hey, welcome to my pep-talk crash course.

Mila's question about the Five-Minute Hypothesis is real and warrants some quick explanation, especially since this game delves into these topics loosely.

I will very briefly explain the subject and context of Mila's question; I will not, however, delve into the philosophical theories of its meaning to our real life and its questioning in the game.

However, with any philosophical discussion, this excerpt I am terribly explaining is missing the entirety of a book's worth of philosophical context, questioning, and reasoning. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

In fact, the entire excerpt of the "Five-Minute Hypothesis" is just a small side track from the main Ninth Chapter: "MEMORY", of Russell's book. (LECTURE IX. MEMORY)

The "Five-Minute Hypothesis" is a thought experiment provided by British Philosopher Bertrand Arthur William Russell. To be specific, this philosophical discussion comes from his book, "The Analysis of Mind".

To quote:
In investigating memory-beliefs, there are certain points which must be borne in mind. In the first place, everything constituting a memory-belief is happening now, not in that past time to which the belief is said to refer. It is not logically necessary to the existence of a memory-belief that the event remembered should have occurred, or even that the past should have existed at all.

There is no logical impossibility in the hypothesis that the world sprang into being five minutes ago, exactly as it then was, with a population that "remembered" a wholly unreal past. There is no logically necessary connection between events at different times; therefore nothing that is happening now or will happen in the future can disprove the hypothesis that the world began five minutes ago.

Hence the occurrences which are CALLED knowledge of the past are logically independent of the past; they are wholly analysable into present contents, which might, theoretically, be just what they are even if no past had existed.

I am not suggesting that the non-existence of the past should be entertained as a serious hypothesis. Like all sceptical hypotheses, it is logically tenable, but uninteresting. All that I am doing is to use its logical tenability as a help in the analysis of what occurs when we remember.

(The Analysis of Mind, 1921)

With some more context, Russell delegates this whole chapter about "Memory" and how it is an important form of knowledge. In relation to what we care about though (Five-Minute Hypothesis), all we need to know is that he brings to question how memory and its knowledge serves to help us understand our world... or perhaps give us false sensations due to issues with our Perception and Recollection. Basically, Memory/Knowledge is hard to understand and interpret.

In the specificity of the Five-Minute Hypothesis, the hypothetical idea Russell proposes here is that there isn't a logical impossibility that the world could have came into existence five minutes ago. Everything that is, was, and will be (potentially) could have been fabricated.

And this logical idea is coherent enough that there isn't "technically" anything that could disprove this hypothesis of a world becoming from five minutes ago.

But, Russell pretty much ends the idea there. He says that it's pretty uninteresting because while the thought presents us a skeptical scenario where we challenge our assumptions of the past and present, the hypothesis kind of sucks at telling us anything to help understand our world. Really, the hypothesis is just used to helped illustrate his analysis of past experiences and memory. And, for the layman, it's a neat idea to ponder.

For Mila and the game, she brings up a parallel to what Russell talks about. She questions if there is any meaning, or reason, to her and the player's existence. She questions if there even is anything beyond the exit door. And she questions if everything is all just a fabrication of reality...

Russell then goes on to talk more deeply about Memory, understanding, knowledge, past recollection, etc. etc.

Annnnd... that's about it. Or, that's about as much as I'm willing to delve into.

I wouldn't think too hard about any of this!

"Gigant" or "гигант" is Russian for giant :)
Thanks to Steam User vl for correcting me!

At the end of the escape sequence, assuming you don't blink (I did), you can see a giant hand crush the corridor.

Giant Hand Crushing The Corridor

Jump down from the broken corridor and if you quickly look to your right just after you land on your feet you'll see a Giant Mita before she disappears into the darkness-

Giant Mita, Ready To Crush The Corridor

Old Version
Alt: Scene/Location 12 - Freak (Ugly Mita & House)
Alt: Scene/Location 13 - HelloCore (Core)

Player Cipher/Message On Wall
RUS & EN players have deciphered this message multiple times a while back on full release. Not my work or image.

When you enter The Core, on the left side of the wall, you can see an inscription/message/cipher left behind by presumably one of the Players before.

Given the collectible Player Cartridges you can collect and find- Player 9 seems to be the closest link. (Also, the message has 9 tally marks...)

Player 9:
What the hell is wrong with her? I never wanted to be in this place to begin with!

Thankfully, I got lucky and found these fancy shoes, which somehow gave me the ability to jump between versions. I thought I could escape, find my way to the latest version, and maybe find some clues. But when I opened the door, all I found were empty rooms- the silence there was maddening.

So I made my way to the zero version. I'd heard the core of the game was there, the very origin of MiSide. The Core was untouchable by any of the Mitas, though one was always there- she ruled over The Core.

She wasn't like the others. It was creepy, the way she just stared at me coldly, but she never laid a finger on me. So I made the Core my safe place, and started trying to figure out how these strange computers worked. I kept hoping I could find a way to escape this world...

The Deciphered Message

How was it deciphered?

(Want a cool website that talks about these type of stuff and other stuff?
Check out: dcode [www.dcode.fr])

This is supposedly a substitution cipher of sorts.

I'm not sure what exact typeface/font was used. I remember someone in the discord mentioning it looked similar to Zalgo font of sorts. From what I understand, most of the players brute forced the meaning (assigning letters to symbols and checking for meaning).

Brute Force Method
We are given one letter 'X' that is assigned to the loop looking symbol at the end of the cipher.

Given this, we can attempt to brute force letters and words that match the six-letter cipher that uses this symbol:
_ x _ _ _ _

We can also narrow down the words and letters by checking the frequency of the symbols that appear. In English, they could likely be vowels or other common characters.

_ x _ _ _ _ 1 x 2 3 4 3 e x i s t s

Then through lots of patience and effort, we find a word with letters. We then assign the letters we guessed from the word to the other matching symbols. Then repeat the process of guessing the word, letters, and so forth. And continue onward and so forth. Will we get the correct message the first try? Probably not. But that's essentially (my very terrible explanation) of the brute force method, when given 1 character.

To-Do: Supposedly, the game actually gives you a hint on top of the 'x'. IOC (Index Of Coincidence) and coincidentally, we are given 0,98... Though... I haven't figured out if this is correct or how it works...
Reboot
Checking the Safe early (x2)
This is the second time in the game where you are able to check the safe early with the known code.

(Thanks to |GHP| loki for mentioning/reminding about this as well!)

Right after Crazy Mita decapitates Kind Mita (sad days...), if you lay on the floor long enough during the animation, you'll see Kind Mita blink and gaze at the player with a smile.

[INSERT IMAGE HERE; WHEN STEAM FIXES THE SERVERSSSS]

Tons of fan theories about the meaning of this, but through the word of the Developers... They've been debunked (or so I recall).

Either way, it's a very unsettling piece to add to a gruesome end... I guess we'll have to see what future updates entail for our compassionate friend. (IF- we get more story updates, anyway)
Unique Player Names
When you look into the bathroom vent at the beginning of the game, you can see player cartridges with names on them. Hard to see though in the cutscene...

Also, when you go to the terminal (at the end of "Reboot" ) to enter your [player] ID, you can spot a few other neato names on the CRTs.

These names are neat little references!

I think the names are picked randomly from a list in the game's files for each scene initialization.

There are unique animations per boot up that can play.

There are four regular startup intros:

"Tetris" Reactions
Note: I don't know... maybe I'll reincorporate these back into their respective sections...

You know that little fly game on that Gameboy-esque toy the [player] whips out after being afk for 2 minutes?

Yeah, the game files refer to it as "Tetris". (Must be a Russian thing)

Anywho, some of the Mitas react to them.

Mita
Mita Russian Dialogue:
Это у тебя приставка такая?
Прикольно.

Mita English Subtitles:
Is that your console?
It looks so cool.

Mita x2
In the game's files... Mita has a second set of dialogue to react to the tetris console again... But I can't find out when/how it triggers... sometime in "Things Get Weird".

After playing around some more, I still can't get the audio to play. The audio is present and technically loaded... But I'm not sure how to trigger it without forcefully playing it.

I'm wondering if it's a bit like Mila. On release, I don't think Mila reacted to the Tetris at first... But now she does.

Hrm...

Edit 3/5/2025: I checked the demo, and as far as I can tell, the audio was not present back in the demo. I checked recently for the current game version, and the audio is still present and loaded.

But without decompiling the game to look at the game's scripts, I am still unsure how to get the audio to trigger during this section.

Cappie:
Ух ты!
Whoa!

Это что у тебя?
What's that?

Приставочка!?
A console!?

Дай поиграть!
Lemme have a go!

[player]:
Ой.
Uh-oh.

Cappie:
А как играть в это?
What do you do in this one?

[player]:
Там просто нужно собирать монетки.
You just collect coins,

И уворачиваться от лягушек.
and avoid frogs.

Cappie:
Звучит, как невероятная скукота!
Gah, sounds beyond boring.

Брось, и ты называешь это игрой?
Seriously, you call that a game?

Cappie / Cool Mita (Second Reaction)
Tetris Dialogue - 2:

Cappie:
Откуда он у тебя?
Where did you get that?

Я же не возвращала тебе его обратно…
It's not like I returned it to you.

Странно как, скажи, а?
Weird, don't you think?

Mitaphone
If you choose to linger MitaPhone will question why the [player] still remains. If you stay long enough to take out the [player]'s "tetris" console, MitaPhone has a reaction to it.

Mitaphone:
Какая приставка?
Why Tetris?

Чел…
Dude...

Mila?
To-Do Section... I think Mila reacts to the Player's Tetris console. She has a set of dialogue for it in the txt files... but I'm not sure how to trigger them in-game.

Mila's reaction has been added since the last few updates, need to add to this section.
Staring Reactions
If you stare at Mita and Mila you get some unique dialogue.

I recommend Neobunny's YouTube video for this. (Although, I'm not sure if the video includes all of Mila's dialogue.)

Mita - Together At Last
Mita - English:
What are you doing?
Don't stare, please.
You're making me embarrassed.

Mita - Russian:
Ты чего?
Перестань
Ты смущаешь

Mita Shy Dialogue 1

Mita Shy Dialogue 2

Mita Shy Dialogue 3

Also, as a neat detail, whenever you stare at Mita, she actually averts your gaze and look off to the side. Sometimes darting off glances to the player. Only when you stop staring at her, does she look back at you. What a pure maiden.

Mita - Things Get Weird
(Thanks again again again- to Steam User kinky punk for mentioning this!)

You can stare at Mita for a second time after getting invited to playing games. This will net you three more shy dialogue lines!

Mita:
Ну-у...
Hey...

Что такое? (What is it?)
What's the matter with you?

Ты что-то хочешь?
You want something?

Mita Shy Dialogue Lines

Staring At Mita's Privates
(See also, "Dummies And Forgotten Puzzles" section)

When Mita appears and talks to the [player], at any moment gaze up at the twilight of Mita. You get a harsh scolding from an embarrassed Mita.

Mita:
Ты чего? (What's wrong?)
What do you think you're doing?

А ну... (Come on...)
Please...

Не смотри,
Don't look!

Дурак!
Fool!

Дурак... (Fool...)
You sillyhead...

Looking Up At Mita

Mila
(The [player] actually has a retort for Mila's sharp wit!)
(See also, "Reading Books... Mila's Dialogue Lines...)

Triggered after staring at Mila's face/head for a while.

Staring At Mila

The [player] Retorts Back

Mila:
Why are you staring?
Look away!

...

Enough!
Quit it, already!
Dummy...

...

Come on!
What's with the staring?
I'm a lady, you know!

[player]:
Have you ever heard of manners?

Mila:
Shoo!

It's interesting to note that Mila gets mad when you stare at her, while Crazy Mita gets embarrassed and bashful.

Soda Cans (SecretMita)
(I don't have an exhaustive list yet of all known locations- This list will be empty for now)
Someone else found them all :) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3385028804

In-game there are numerous hidden Soda-Cans that are labeled "SecretMita" in the game.

What do they mean? I don't know. Nobody (currently) knows. Currently, they do nothing. That's it.

I think they might have future use possibly, or maybe they are cut content. Or maybe they're just fun little jabs! Hard to say. Their placement is far too intentional to be for the lolz though, as some are well hidden. Or maybe that's the joke.

My best guess is that they were to incorporate one of the game's mechanics of staring to activate or collect or trigger something. The ducks at the beginning of the game do so. The mirror(s) does so. Staring at Mita(s) does so.

A fair amount of interactions are based off the mechanic of if the player is looking at something for a long time or just "is" or "isn't" looking at something. A very niche and fun mechanic that reminds me of point-and-click interactions, but in a 3D interactive sort of way. A few other interactions are based off how long the player is just kinda spent AFK. Some filler for those who like to linger.

Currently though (Game V0.9), the Soda Cans are moot and have no Unity Components or scripts attached to the Game Object (as far as I'm aware of). Or at least, at a glance. I'm sure one of the Russian or English players in Discord or other have already decompiled/reverse engineered the Unity Game and is tearing down the code to see what's up.

At the very least, the Soda Cans make for a nice extra scavenger hunt, I guess.

Their motif seems to borrow from the over arching themes (excluding anime and 18+) of the game:

-Math/Engineering
  • Tessellations and Geometry are mentioned passingly
  • XYZ and 2D/3D Spaces

-Computer Science & Programming
  • A lot of the quirks/appeal draw from modern staples and tropes about programming, neural networks, Artificial Intelligence, game logic, game design, game memes, etc.

-"Big Brother"
  • The idea that an organization, government, or entity has total control & surveillance
    • In pop-culture, this usually means a dystopia of sorts
  • Something is always kinda watching you. And there are subtle nods that the in-game world is devastated by AI and Tech. There are also some obligatory eye images here and there.
  • In an odd way, I liken this to meaning that Mita is always watching the [player]

For now, here's how they look like up close!

Secret Console
(I think the latest game version of V0.921 has made the Console fully available without the need of a BepInEx Plugin.)

(Need verification)
(I am unsure if the console is limited to BepInEx Plugin or if it is semi-available/locked in Vanilla)
(Either way, some fun flavor text)

The game has a hidden console feature you can activate via holding down the ~ (tilde) key.

Japanese Dub Localization Errors

Japanese Subtitle Mod
EDIT:1/20/2025

Someone has made a subtitle text replacement mod for the Japanese voice lines. If you want a more accurate Japanese To English translation/localization... then maybe this mod will interest you!

To be specific this mod is more of a Japanese --> English.

It seeks to fix some of the discrepancies of the broken English subtitles (based off the original Russian) and fix it to be more in line of what the Japanese Audio says.

So instead of listening to Japanese Audio that says something different from the broken English subtitles based off the Original Russian... you now get fixed English subtitles based off the Japanese Dub.

This probably won't help you much if you're listening to the Original Russian Dub though.

Check the mod out: Better English Subtitles (Japanese to English) by Seraphi - Nexus Mods [www.nexusmods.com]

...And now I await for a Russian To English subtitle fix... Or I keep waiting for improvements in the localization. I think it's been changed thrice by now since release... and a fair amount of times since the demo. (3/6/2025: English Subs have been updated a fair amount of times by now :D )

This really only affects multi-lingual people.

But it seems there's enough discrepancy in the Japanese Dub that is different to the Original Russian Dub. Or at least, according to other players who are fluent in JP. This mainly causes issues because the English Subtitles are based off the original Russian dub/subs, and not the Japanese Dub.

It apparently causes minor irks here and there when the JP Dub says something 'slightly' different than the subtitles.

I mainly played in the Original Russian Dub for that true authentic experience /sarcasm. (I don't know Russian) Plus, in the Russian Dub, all the Mitas have unique voices and are voiced by different people. Helps with the immersion to really get that they're all unique in their own way.

In the short time I did listen to some of the Japanese dialogue, some dialogue pieces did sound off based on my non-existent primitive Japanese.

I doubt there's too many differences though, just funny or nit-picky differences. Nothing too extraordinary. I'd say it's about on par for when you localize stuff from one language to another.

But... what if- Tamagotchi?

Thus, Tamagotchi + UMFEND = MiSide.

Financial challenges were tough. But the Demo's success led to the game getting picked up by publishers IndieArk and Shochiku AND having the developers get supported by patrons from Boosty. This allowed for more financial assistance, localization, and distribution/promotion. But it was still challenging.

The game's development was about 865 days, 30 of which were resting. That is about 2.37 years of game development.

A lot of cut content was necessary to finish the game on a time crunch in order to please backers, publishers, and dedicated fans who were eagerly awaiting the game's release.

These cut content include:
  • More Mini-Games
    • Racing Genre (we did get something)
    • Shooter (we also got this)
    • Metroid Vania (unavailable, but there was a prototype Metroidvania though)
    • Tetris (Technically, the fly game is labelled as such)
    • Volleyball
    • Rougelike
  • More Story, Gameplay, Mechanics, Lore, etc.
  • Did I mention more cut content?

Metroidvania Mini-Game Prototype
I think someone said this might still be in the game's files

Yes there are indeed intentional references and nods to Doom, Papers Please, The Witness, Silent Hill: PT, Resident Evil, maaaaaaybe Crash Bandicoot, and a whole lot more.

Yes, the game is still rough around the edges, but the developers hope that the players can enjoy their hard work and passion!

The Cappie Dance Mini Game was really tough to program and get the timing and music right.
The 2D Novel part of the game was a long time sink in terms of drawing art by the game's artist, Umeerai.

The Canon Ending is indeed that: the player becomes a cartridge. Mita goes on about.

There were plans for a good ending with Kind Mita, but what we have is what we got. The good ending got cut due to time constraints. The story and its plot is finished and planned out thoroughly the way it is now, but a lot of content was cut.

However IF they were to continue working on the story/ending from what we now have...

It would be a "what if" from the perspective of Kind Mita after the events of the game. This would ideally lead to the players learning more about the world of MiSide and what Crazy Mita is doing.

MakenCat prefers Cappie.
Umeerai prefers Mila.

Also, Mila was supposed to be canonically short. But MakenCat forgot to set her that way.

Mila, who was supposed to be short

MakenCat has plans and ideas for more games!

Q: When will cloud saving be added to the game?
A: We're considering it.

Q: Will the Christmas theme remain available in the future with an option to toggle it manually?
A: Christmas theme will be available only at holidays, it won't become a toggleable option.

Q: Will more Mita decorations (such as hairpins, bows, hair bands, etc.) and customizations be added?

A: There will be a wider variety of mini-games in the peaceful mode.

Character and Plot

Q: Will Mita have voiceovers of other languages in the future?

Q: Will there be new characters added to Mita later on?
A: We don't have such a plan for a new character yet.

Q: Does the game have a fully developed lore? Is there any follow-up story for the blond character in the "Beyond the World" chapter, or was it just to show the abundance of players in Mita's world?
A: Yes, this character appears to show the abundance of players staying inside the world of the game. As for creating a sequel to the game , we don't rule out that option in the future, but we're not seriously considering it yet.

Q:Are the collected player cartridges meant to supplement Mita’s abilities (e.g., #4 and #10), or will they appear in future storylines?
A: The cartridges are also made simply for players to expand lore about the game world.

Q: Is the player a cartridge since the beginning of the game?
A: No, the player is recorded during the game on the cartridge.

Q: What is the timeline relationship between the rumored good ending and the main storyline?
A: It is currently uncertain.

A: Only Crazy Mita. But maybe some characters will make additional appearances.

Q: Will more interactions between Mitas and Player be added, such as giving a hand to Mila after she falls, preventing Sleepy Mita from falling?
A: We plan to add some interactions, but we can't say yet what they will be.

Peripheral Goods

Q: What merchandise is available for Mita?
A: The peripheral figurines are currently under concept art design. Other merchandise such as body pillows, acrylic stands, and badges are likely to be produced. We are still planning for more items.

Mita(s) Photograph Art

All the Mitas have their very own unique photographs for their respective versions/personality! I think they look really nice, so here's the pictures provided by the artist themselves from the Discord!

They're all drawn by Nineko Hori! Check them out:

YouTube - Nineko Hori VTuber
Twitch - Nineko Hori [www.twitch.tv]
Boosty - Nineko Hori [boosty.to]

Also, I probably shouldn't have to say this, but please don't upload these to AI Art Generators or etc.

Photograph Art by Nineko Hori

She didn't have an image containing all of the photograph art for the V1.9/Crazy Mita though. Not sure if she drew them or not. The art style is slightly different, but the framing is relatively the same. Might've been Umeerai... Or MakenCat... Not sure.

Well, here they are anyway! They're not as pretty looking since these are ripped straight from the game's textures.

The End!
(writing so I don't forget later: move somewher else)
Version Contradictions:

Kind Mita talks about how Mita 'should' be from V0.98

But Ugly Mita says both she and Mita are from V0.8??

Think I missed something or think someone else found something cool? Let me know~

Think there's a better collection/guide? Also let me know! If a more suitable collection/guide pops up, I might pull this down so I don't have to keep jotting notes haha~

At this point, there should be various resources that far exceed what I've covered, check them out!

I noticed something recently about Ugly Mita. Whereas when you give her teddy back to her, she holds it like a right-handed person would, she holds the knife and kills you like a lefty. This is curious to me since no other Mita in-game is evidently left-handed or ambidextrous. Then again, Aihasto might have simply made her be like that for illumination/camera purposes during her chase scene. However, if in fact done on purpose, it'd get me interested lore-wise: Why make Mita right-handed in releases following the original one?
Cool, nonetheless. (I'm left-handed myself and love representation in games since it's rare.)

(Also, did you know? You can use your numeric keypad instead of WASD in the backend in the Core as well as in the basement PC in the last chapter. I mention this because some people still waste (although little, I know) time by selecting the numbers with WASD instead.

I found something interesting regarding Cappie. When you think of her, you'd normally think of her idle expression with her smile with teeth showing and partially closed eyes, right? Well, there's actually a second idle facial expression she can have instead (where she simple and innocently smiles with her eyes open normally). Thing is, for some reason it only triggers in two occasions: 1. when you have her pull you out of the armchair; and 2. right when she gets up out of bed after introducing each other (beware you MUST have loaded from the "Beyond the World" chapter or before; otherwise, if you load from the "Cappie" chapter from the title menu, once she gets up out the bed, she shows her most common facial expression instead, for some reason.) She will keep the innocent smile until you trigger something else, be it a hint/"?" icon, game, dialogue option, etc. prompting her to react, then she once again put on the playful smile.

I didn't see anyone mention this, so maybe it's unknown? You know when Mita is in the kitchen practicing her hearts after she drugs you? After leaving the kitchen and in-route to the living room (after the room loads in), if you don't look at her, she sticks her tongue out at the player: https://i.imgur.com/zLJQmZL.png I think it is easy to see by quickly going into the living room, staring away from her, go to camera mode quickly, and let time pass. As she walks and talks, she'll stick her tongue out here and there.

Hi, I found that in the Ghosly Mita chapter (the one where she's shrouded in a black cloud) using free cam mode, you can look at a drawing behing her bed (by the window). And that drawing looks a LOT like annoying dog / tobyfox from UNDERTALE. I'm pretty sure it is intentional reference / easter egg, because that way to draw a dog is toooo specific!

@labsterman

In the Book Spine Hexadecimal section you can use a Hexadecimal to text translation like https://magictool.ai/tool/hex-to-text-converter/ to know what's the title: Тебе онец that means "You're done".
And actually if you use the language of Chinese (I don't know if other languages works as well) the hexadecimal changes and if you use the translator again the title will be 你的麻煩大了 that means "You're in big trouble".
Emukko 7 янв в 15:18
that's more a curiosity but, if you ask about kind mita to Cappie, she will say that she's coller and "look at that frown",and kind mita will say "i'm right here you know, i can hear what you're talking"... but if you ask this in another room, she'll say nothing, 'cause she cound't hear you two talking about her. Just a small detail, but interesting how devs thought about this.
|GHP| loki™ 4 янв в 5:42
Not sure if this counts as an easter egg, but when Kinda Mita is killed, if you wait a bit and then stand up she will smile at you while you're getting up... there's no way it isn't unintentional but what does it mean?

Shown here: YouTube video

It's interesting because it makes you wonder if she's in on it too. When she's talking about Cappie being killed, Cappie gets a wide eyed look and sort of shakes her head at points.. it's pretty suspicious. The dead mini Chibis Kinda Mita spawns are a weird foreshadowing that she's died multiple times already too.

Anyways, theories aside you can see the smile in the YT video above

Hi, and thank you for this thorough guide!

I insist that it can't be just a coincidence.
The form of the stroke is irrelevant. Unlike other Cyrillic alphabets, Russian has few letters with accent. 'Й' has a counterpart without diacritics: 'И'. You can't use one instead of another and there is only a single stroke difference between two. There's no rule to use only a 'Combinig Breve'. It's just a font preference. Add any mark above and the letter would be unmistakably recognized as 'Й'.

For native reader there is no difference between "ХУЙ " and "XYN̍". The d-word flashes bright and obvious. Take a look to this meme scene from 'Police Academy' movie
webp [img-9gag-fun.9cache.com]
There is used vertical stroke and a word catches eye anyway.

I'm 99.5% sure that developers tried to insert the 'NHK' pun with this obscene word and din't give a second thought to the correct diacritic mark because for them it didn't matter.

@dvkh
Hello! You'd be observant in recognizing the similarities! There are a lot of mentions about the "Welcome To The NHK" Anime and its shirt in discussions.

Fans of the anime and Russian profanity also say that the anime shirt is also just, "xyй" but misspelled because they used Latin characters rather than Cyrillic characters. So instead of a Cyrillic "ХУЙ " we have a Latin "XYN̍", where the N has a Vertical Line Above, instead of the Combining Breve. Or, so they say anyway.

Given that MiSide is a Russian game, and given that the character on the magazine is N̆, which is just a mirrored й (both have the combining breve), I'd still wager that it's likely that it's just a play on a common Russian profanity.

But, given that the wording in-game is also "Welcome To The XYN̆" and the anime is, "Welcome To The NHK"... I'd also wager that this reference is plausible too. Especially since the anime series follows a hikkimori and our protagonist is also essentially a recluse.
