Introduction
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that a single person in possession of too much stress must be in want of a relief escape.

That in mind, if you make one guide, you can make two. I had a really hard time playing this game and struggle with almost everything, but I still love it, even if it makes me feel like:

One of those things I struggle with was the art of making Candles. But I tried and here is what I found.

A disclaimer: This guide is in English because is more accessible to everyone, but it’s not my first language, so there will be grammar errors (please enlighten me about those).

BTW, this guide probably has spoilers, since it lists every Candle recipe or location. But I will try to hide it as much as possible.

I hope you enjoy it!
What is a Candle?
In game context, it’s a type of “Craftable” item with an "Aspect" of a "Thing", "Candle", “Light and at least one "Principle". The player needs to use a "Workstation", a “Beeswax” and a “Skill” to craft an "Candle". Some types of "Candle" need specifics ingredients, mostly “Flowers”. With "Candle", player can improve an “Assistant” or even use it as resources for other purposes as long it matches the required. When "Considered", it generates a "Memory" and is destroyed. It’s a one-time use item.
What to do with a Candle?
The most useful thing to do with a Candle, is give it to Reverend Timothy when ask for his assistance. It boosts his Principle and it’s an extra card in addition to others. That’s mean you can give Reverend Timothy:
an Element of Soul, a Beverage, a Memory, a Sustenance, a Tool AND a Candle

The Candle can be used as resources to achieve a high Principle as long as its Aspect can be used, remind that the Candle Aspect are Thing, Candle and Light.

One exemple of a Workstations that accept Candles are Altars (thank you @Gingerbread Conductor!)

You can also Consider the Candle to gain a Memory. Most of non-craftable Candles can be considered for a Memory: Sight, which is very useful in early game. The Widow's Candle, in special, gives Memory: Salt (obrigada @alvarofreitas!).

There is a chapter just about "Memory", so it is easier to retrieve the information.
What are the Memories of each Candle?
By Consider a Candle you gain a Memory. Most of non-craftable Candles available (I'm talking about quantity) gives Memory: Sight, which is very useful in early game.

Below the list with the Memories from non-craftable Candles, special atention to The Widow's Candle, that gives Memory: Salt with not one or two, but three Principles"! (de novo, valeu @alvarofreitas!):

How to craft a Candle?
To make a Candle you need:
  • an Element of the Soul
  • a Workstation
  • a Beeswax and
  • a Skill
And, if you want to make a Scented (and more powerful) Candle:
  • a Flower or
  • or Sustenance, for Pear-Scented Candle
In total, there are 7 craftable Candles, and you can find more 8 uncraftable unique types of Candles in Hush House.

The craftable Candles are:
  • Aglaophotis-Scented Candle
  • Beeswax Candle
  • Chalice Candle
  • Historywax Candle
  • Honeyscar-Scented Candle
  • Moth-Orchid-Scented Candle
  • Pear-Scented Candle
So, in summary:
Element of the Soul + Workstation (Kitchen range mostly) + Beeswax + Chandlery Skill + Flower (for Scented Candle) or Sustenance (for Pear-Scented Candle)
Now, bit by bit:

Element of the Soul
An Element of the Soul is a requirement for whatever you do in the game, however, Kitchen Range Workstation are the best for Chandlery and their standard Principle are Nectar and Grail, so save some card with thoses Principles when use thoses stations.

Aside from normal Element of Soul cards, you can use Maladied Soul Element too. It helps A LOT since Malady cards don’t exhaust themselves. There is a guide that explains their uses, you can read about it here:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3097120524

Workstation
To make all Candle, the Workstation must accept Fuel, Flower and Sustenance which make all Kitchen ranges perfect to craft Candle (again their standard Principle are Nectar and Grail, so save cards with thoses Principles to use here).

The BEST WORKSTATION is Kitchen Range: Gaol since it accept all Chandlery Skill. The Dispensary and Alchemist's Glassware works pretty well too, but it doesn’t accept Sustenance.

Below the list with all Kitchen Range + Principle:
  • Kitchen Range: Gaol (Scale, Lantern, Nectar, Grail)
  • Kitchen Range: Servants (Scale, Heart, Nectar, Grail)
  • Hearth: Hall of Voices (Moon, Edge, Nectar, Grail)
Other Workstation that accept Flower + Fuel:
  • Dispensary (Nectar, Knock, Moth, Heart)
  • Alchemist's Glassware (Winter, Lantern, Grail, Forge)
There are other workstation that accept just Fuel, but that means you will only be able to make Beeswax Candle.

Beeswax
The essential item to make Candle is Beeswax. It’s an item with Fuel and Material Aspects and can be find on the map or gathering it at the Beehive after unlocking the “Kitchen Garden Room”.

The Beehive gives you Beeswax, Honey or a Memory (Regret for me, most of cases). The probability of receiving a Beeswax is high in warm seasons, like Spring and Summer. I’m saying this by experience, cause I never get honey or Beeswax other than those seasons (and BoH Wiki confirm it to me, you have 33% chance to get Beeswax in those seasons!). You can’t get Beeswaxat night, since… well, it’s night, how you are supposed to see in the darkness?

The only Element of the Soul that matches the gathering requisite of the Beehive is Hearth, so safe some when decide to get Beeswax.

Skill
There are four Skills that allows you to craft Candles. All of them have Chandlery Aspect. They are:
  • Glaziery & Lightsmithing
  • Insects & Nectars
  • Pyroglyphics
  • Transformations & Liberations
To trigger the Candle Crafting, you need place the wax first, otherwise it will suggest other crafting stuff. By click in the smal triangle near the "Craftable" tab, you reset the settings to Candle Crafting.

I will explaing better the Skill in a chapter below. You can only make Candles with Chandlery Skills. I try and I fail - end up making Honeyscar Jasmine Tea, with is a new thing to me (thank you, @_Kotik, for your contribution).

Flower
To make Scented Candle you need Flowers (and Pyrus Auricalcinus, with is a fruit you can only pick in Numa Season or u can craft it!). They are:
  • Agave Aeterna
  • Aglaophotis
  • Fragrant Chalice
  • Honeyscar Jasmine
  • Moth Orchid
  • Pyrus Auricalcinus
All the Flowers (and the fruit) bloom in the Hush House’s Gardens, but in different Seasons. I don’t know if you can pick them in Moor or the Beach, tell me if you find them there.

To gather them you must match its Principle at their Gathering Workstation. Normally it is Nectar, with make them accept Elements of Soul with Heart Aspect and Skills with Nectar Aspect.

You can just wait and see for yourself they bloom, or you can see a list of with Season they appear. There is a topic trace as Spoiler because it may be or not spoiler.

Season
Flower/Fruit

Spring

Summer
Agave Aeterna
Fragrant Chalice
Moth Orchid

Autumn
Fragrant Chalice
Honeyscar Jasmine

Numa
Agave Aeterna
Aglaophotis

Pyrus Auricalcinus

You can craft the fruit, btw:
To craft Pyrus Auricalcinus you need "Coil & Chasm", "Leaves & Thorns" or "Spices & Savours" skills + Nectar 10 + Wood or "Desires & Dissolutions" Skill + Moon 10 + Wood. It's REALLY useful since u don't need to wait for Numa Season to gathering it.
Which Skill should I focus on?
As I mention before, there are four “Skill” with “Chandlery Aspect”, which allows you to craft Candles, they are:

SKILL
INFO
BEST WORKSTATION
Glaziery & Lightsmithing
Lantern 2 Sky 1
Accepts Flower + Fuel + Sustenance:

Again, you can only make Candles with Chandlery Skills. I try and I fail - end up making Fragant Chalice Tea this time (thank you, @_Kotik, for your contribution).
Are there Recipes?
Yes, there are. Despite the recipe formula don’t change much, the only thing that you must consider is the Workstation Principle and the Flowers (when crafting Scented Candles).

Conclusion
Well, that’s it! Not much to say, just that I learn about tea, candles, memories and more secrets of the Hush House.
This is an eternal Work in Progress, so I will update from time to time. I use Book of Hours Wiki and my own experience to make this Guide, please tell me if something is incorrect that will change it. All references used in this guide are at the end chapter.

I hope you enjoy and thank you for reading it!

After see you comment I read and reread the wiki and noww I get it! The wiki was talking about the skill list with Chandely, not all skill set. I totally didn't understand what was written. Thank you for your contribution
_Kotik 17.12.2024 klo 14.41
I am sure you took this qoute out of context. Wiki doesn't mean that any skill can be used to craft candles just any skill with chandlery can be used to craft any craftable candle. And it's obvius that you can't craft candles with any skill because why you need chandely skills in that case?
Dona Marie  [tekijä] 16.12.2024 klo 16.39
Ohh thanks for the addition! I'll put both information in the guide!
Gingerbread Conductor 16.12.2024 klo 8.02
Fun guide. You can also use candles in some workstations such as the altars. That might be worth adding.
alvarofreitas 14.12.2024 klo 6.13
Great guide. Not sure if it's a secret, but most non-craftable candles can be considered for a Memory: Sight, and much more useful early in the game, the Widow's Candle can be considered to give Memory: Salt.
