Intro
Hello, this is my first guide here on steam. I tend to play a lot of games that allow you to make character builds normally more complex than this. That is not to say this game does not have complexity. I just love that it's more directed towards fun and making what you want to try out work with simple guidelines, however I know some people struggle with converting ideas into practice and that's what I'm here for.

I wanted to provide some ideas for builds that aren't just, take this
For example hammer and go straight fighter skills i feel you don't need me to tell you that

This is more for making gimmick builds work and are not end all be all but a guide to get you on your way to make you feel comfortable

I figured I'd start by making some Final Fantasy classes since critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV (which has a free trial by the way) is the most popular MMO atm and many people may have overlap there.

A lot of these may require prior knowledge of the game and perhaps amassing items beforehand in a previous playthrough since some of these builds use the stones available to change the scaling for thematic purposes.

I'll be editing this probably over time but let's get started
(for a lot of these i'll be adding a race but if you don't know you can get all race skills as drops at some point in the game)

Also i am a recovery enjoyer so feel free to keep it on your bar if you prefer i just know some people dont keep it later on.

Ill be making references to skills and such if you dont know them off the back of your hand here is the wiki for reference : https://atlyss.wiki.gg/wiki/Skills
Knight (or Paladin)
First on my list is paladin
For this you will need flux stones so this is sort of a “ng+ build”

I would also like to note I am actively choosing to make builds that focus on one weapon and you can feel free to incorporate another into the build if you wish.

Knight or Paladin
Race: Chang

Weapon: sword and shield (mind scaling, so use a flux stone)

Stats: focus on mind and vitality for this I won't give exact numbers since levels go up to 25 currently there doesn't seem to be any “thresholds” to meet

Class: mystic

Skills:
Sturdy
Recovery (can replace with Divine later)
Flux spear
Nova
Prism
Restora
Take sword and shield mastery as well
(don't go blink on this build)

Idea: support your allies with cc and healing while being a force to be reckoned with. You won't draw enemies to you like a traditional tank which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you personally want to function. I think this build is easy to execute and should be pretty comfortable in terms of staying alive.
Monk 1
Monk 1
Now there will be 2 of these a mind themed one and a Str themed one

Race: Kubold (for alacrity until you get some later spells)

Weapon: Katars(mind infused)

Stats: focus on mind and vitality pretty standard

Class: Mystic

Skills:
Flux bolt
Nova
Imbue
Restora
Recover (can be replaced with divine later)

Take katar mastery and id forgo blink
(dw i take blink on some of the other builds blink enthusiasts)

Sturdy is also a good skill to take early and late

Idea: this is your more spiritually inclined monk who looks out for the team as well as themselves.
Monks have a history of being able to buff or at least heal their teammates in a few final fantasy’s so that was replicated here another simple and comfy build with a slight gimmick

Monk 2
Race: Chang
Weapon: Katars (you can decide if you want them more str or mind focused)

Stats: my default idea for this build is to go mainly into str then vit and put some in mind( youll see why shortly)

Class: Fighter

Skills:
Rock toss
Fireball
Spire
Lethal strike
stomp
Recovery (into divine later)

Take katar mastery here
Sturdy is also a good skill to take early and late

Idea: Monks have been able to use all elements provided in this build in previous final fantasy games. You are a tank with ranged options, like having a pistol when you run out of bullets on your main arm. Rock toss aggros so does stomp, lethal strike gets you into the fight as well as your katar jump attacks. You have fireball and spire to help when you get low and need to retreat. All in all this is more for replicating an old class so I can understand if it looks wonky.

Warrior 1
Warrior

Race: byrdle

Weapon: heavy weapons hammer/great swords

Stats: str and vit here no funky scaling to do, more str over vit

Class: fighter (which the final fantasy warrior is called sometime)

Skills:
Inner focus
Rage
Blood gush
Lethal strike
execute
Cyclone

Idea: You are here to deal damage plain and simple this is the more damage focused spec of warrior and the next will focus more on being more of a tank this setup is something closer to a bruiser for those familiar with the term.
Warrior 2
Warrior 2 (sword and board)

Race: Chang

Weapon: sword and shield

Stats: Str and vit but i would favor more vit in this build

Class: fighter

Skills:
Sturdy
Stomp
Lethal strike
Shield bash
Regeneration
Rock toss

Idea: you taunt enemies off of your friends or if youre alone to bring them in for heavy attacks. You still want enough str to be able to deal damage alone but more vit will of course emphasize the teamwork aspect by leaving damage to other party members
Ninja
Ninja
Race: kubold, poon or byrdle the race skills help this build some early

Weapon: katars (normal)

Stats: I would invest in dex mind then vit (or you can respec later and go all mind with mind scaling katars)

Class: bandit

Skills:
Fireball
Cryo needle
Spire
Mist veil
Killer jab
Bomb trap

Don't forget to Take katar mastery
and agile tech for ninja movement

Idea: so ninjas are able to cast “ninjutsu” version of black mage spells in final fantasy replicated here as well as the ability to heal as well as go invisible in many games they have a tendency to throw items and get bombs and shuriken as a default throwing ability.
Thief
Thief

Race: poon / byrdle

Weapon: katars

Stats: dex and vit 2 : 1 should be good
Class: bandit

Skills:
Killer jab
Payday
Bomb trap
Mist veil
Inner focus
Devious signet

Note : acrobatic technique works in this gameplay loop if you enjoy how it functions.

idea : your traditional melee thief type you have a way to make money or “steal items” in final fantasy’s case and the rest are your usual buffs the only outlier here is bomb trap is mainly goes with the ability to cast mist veil to drop the bomb or reappear and lead enemies into it it does scale off of ranged power but i still think it fits the game play loop here
Archer
Archer

Race: poon / byrdle

Weapon: bow

Stats: dex and vit so you dont get one shot

Class: bandit

Skills:
Venom shot
volley
Spread shot
Inner focus
Devious signet
Leg up

Idea: a very easy to play build giving you 3 attacks and 3 buffs, leg up being your panic button to hoof it out of there. These are some of the classes that feel more straightforward to make so i apologize if there isn't much to comment here, however id probably avoid getting acrobatic technique for this build might be a bit odd w/o melee
Red Mage
Red mage

Race: imp for siphon bolt early, kubold for alacrity

Weapon: sword(mind scaling later) and shield or sceptre and shield

Stats: mind and vit on this one for scaling on your sword we dont use any weapon skills so you shouldnt need any hybrid stats. if you are doing this flux stoneless id go a little str for your weapon and mostly mind to keep your spells hitting hard. if your str is 20 or so id have mind trailing at about 16

Class: mystic

Skills:
Fireball
Cryo
Spire
Siphon
Imbue (use recovery until then)
restora (or you can use divine)

Idea:
A generalist caster who doesn't mind using their sword as a focus with magic as a backup able to boost up other casters in the party as well as heal them. Divine imbue and restora are all great spells to have so it depends on what you want to swap out on your bar to make more room for damage dealing spells or spells to support your allies. If you don't like the sword focus red mages are known for using staves (rods) as well so feel free to run one or the other.

White Mage
White Mage

Race: Kubold for alacrity (feels its more white mage-y than inner focus)

Weapon: staff

Stats: A pure mind and vit build nothing too crazy here.

Class:mystic

Skills:
this comes online a bit later to be a “pure” white mage but ill list the skills here that you should end up with
alacrity
Prism
Imbue
Restora
Restoration
Divine

Note: spire is viable as well.
Stone in final fantasy has been split across white and black mage over the years and will be finding its home here in the white mage build for the time being so feel free to take spire here

additional Note: (dont take blink)

Idea: keep yourself healthy and if you got folks on their team they are lucky to have a player like this around as if it wasnt easy enough to face tank through certain scenarios now you have your own personal battery so if you choose to take up this style of play
Black Mage
Black Mage

Race: byrdle (inner focus spells should hit hard and this helps with getting it later)

Weapon: staff

Stats: mind and vit this build is rather simple stat wise so long as you arent getting one shot and can cast spells youre doing good.

Class: mystic

Skills:
Fireball
Cryo
cross
alacrity
Inner focus
Imbue

Note: you may take Siphon Leech or divine as per recommendation of another player, im not quite fond of divine in the line up but drain in final fantasy is capable of hitting "one or all enemies" so do what makes you comfy more healing is never bad imo.

additional Note : Feel free to take blink here as you want to stay out of harm's way.
Regeneration is not mandatory for this build but play what makes you comfortable

Idea: a traditional mage as mages in ff are capable of casting multiple elements replicating fira and blizara . Here cross is our stand in for flare and over the multiple games they have had few ways to buff themselves and allies hence inner focus and imbue. feel free to take Siphon Leech as well since across games black mages have had access to things like bio and drain
Conclusion
I hope you guys enjoy the builds ill be trying to update and if i can find it in me pretty this guide up for your enjoyment. As well as some more common builds like fighter and rogue to feed my friends who do enjoy that style of play as it does exist in the final fantasy world as well i did just wanted to start with less obvious builds.

Let me know if you discover anything or think of ways to improve the builds or just tell me how your adventure has been going if you've had the chance to play one of the builds, perfect for respecing characters later in the game id say.

But take care and check back soon for updates!
Thank you for reading my first guide

I want to say just from my playing of older final fantasies ive seen more stone in black mage but in like final fantasy legends(?) i wanna say it was in fact a white mage spell they both learn it through the games but i def see the vision
and want comments like this to show i appreciate the feed back

i think my favorite of the suggestions is alacrity

and will replace the skill as such and add a note to white mage stating that stone is a valid option there as well

Quake is traditionally a White Mage or Time Mage spell, so I would take Spire off Black Mage. Replace it with Alacrity or Life Tap to mimic the nature of Swiftcast or a janky version of Umbral Ice. Could also replace it with Sturdy to mimic Black Mage's shield skill, Manaward. Though these are mostly XIV related suggestions. Divine actually could work as a substitute for Drain, a traditional Black Mage spell, if you would like a non-XIV suggestion.

I like the idea of using Inner Focus like Sharpcast, and I like the idea of using Imbue like Ley Lines but less selfish.

Your other builds are fine, but I was a Black Mage main in XIV, (swapped to Reaper in EW) and have played FF games for about 25 years. So this one I just felt the need to comment on.
