What are mods?
Content Warning now has built in mod support through the steam workshop. However, thunderstore still has significantly more mods, so choose whatever you want.
Mods are unofficial user made modifications, that change things in a game. This could be something as simple as tweaking entity spawn rates, or something like adding new entities, moons, or interiors.
Installing the mod manager
Tl;dr, Go to this link[thunderstore.io], click manual download, unzip the folder, open the setup file in the newly created folder, install the app.
A mod manager is a program you can use, that lets you download and share mods. For this guide, we are going to use the mod manager r2modman. To start go to this link[thunderstore.io]. This links to the download page for r2modman on the website thunderstore. This is a popular site for downloading mods for many games. In fact, this is the website that r2modman gets its mods from. Anyways, once you have opened the link, you will want to click on the button that says "Manual Download".
This should start downloading. Once it is finished, open your downloads folder (or wherever it downloads on your device) and double click on the zipped file titled "ebkr-r2modman" etc., open the r2modman-setup file, click for this user only, click next, and select the browse button. Click on your downloads folder, click next, click install.
Setting up r2modman
Now, open the newly created .exe file for r2modman. You do any setup junk that you have to (I don't remember everything) until you arrive at a screen with a ton of games. Look for content warning, and once you find it hover over it. Click the star button, scroll to the top, then hover over content warning again. Select set as default, and wait for everything to load. Click on create new, or, if you want to use a modpack that a friend made, click import/update, click import new profile, and either click from file, and open the file your friend sent you, or click from code, and enter the code your friend gave you. Anyhow, once you click create new, give it a name, and click select profile.
Downloading mods
Now, for the part that you were waiting for.
Downloading the mods.
Click on the button that says "online". Find the mod that is called bepinexpack, click on it, click download, and click on download with dependencies. This is a super important mods, that nearly every mod on thunderstore requires to function. Once bepinex is downloaded, find other mods. I would recommend sorting by download count, to find the best mods possible.
Once you find a mod you want, click on it, click download, and click download with dependencies. Boom. Now you have mods.
Alternative
Find a mod on thunderstore, open it, and click download with mod manager. Make sure to download bepinex.
Starting the game. (100% real not clickbait)
No actually. Just click on start modded, or start vanilla if you want to play without mods.
Sharing your modpack.
To share your mods with a friend, click settings and look for export profile as a code, or export profile as a file. Send the file or code with the friend, and have them do the steps to use the shared mods in the setting up r2modman section of this guide.
Types of mods
There are several types of mods. Some of these are modding apis (like bepinex) that let the mods work at all. Another type is library mods, which are mods that are used by other mods to do things. There are also just mods, which change things, and usually require modding apis and librarys to work. There is also another way to categorize mods. This is client side, server side, and host side. Client side mods only need to be downloaded by one player to work for them, and usually just do simple things that don't change much of the game, just small things like gui. There are also server side mods, which require everybody to use the mods for them to work. These mods are typically the most game changing mods. The final type is host side mods, the least common type. These don't add new things, they just change things and use existing game assets to change the way the game is played. However, host side mods only need to be used by the host of the lobby to change things for the whole server.
Config files
Many mods offer a way to edit their settings easily, and that way is through config files. Config files are files in the .cfg file format, that can be opened with notepad. To see the cfg file(s) for a game, you first need to run the game with the mod enabled, after which it should appear.
Bye Bye Now!
I hope that you all found this guide helpful! Please like, and give an award if this guide helped you. Thanks!
PS. The process for downloading mods is roughly the same for lethal company as it is for content warning, including using bepinex, simply select lethal company instead of content warning.
