To sort the animals into categories, I have used the Latin words for Beginning, Middle, and End for the various animals based on the difficulty and location for them.

This is Ari, my personal Soulmask mascot, say hi :P
Basics
Throughout Soulmask, you'll find that every animal or Barbarian, will have a quality, these colors range from the following colorations.

  • White (Common)
  • Green (Good)
  • Blue (Fine)
  • Purple (Excellent)
  • Yellow/Gold (Epic)
  • Red/Orange (Legendary)

These colors also apply to various armor pieces, weapons, tools, and even saddles. Bosses and Elite creatures will only be Legendary quality. The better quality a saddle, the better the mount's stats will be, the legendary animals will also be larger and some may have colors found only with the Legendary quality.

The Hunting Gallery will show you the info on the animals and whether or not they can be domesticated, you can quickly access the Hunting menu with K. Now, once you open the Hunting Gallery you can find on the right side the Senses, Weak Spot, Output and Capturing Info. If the animal can be tamed, (Almost) all of them will list a series of baits that you can use, if your not sure what your animal eats, then use the baits as an idea for their food.

When in a Tribe, if you press U it will take you to the Domesticate Tab and from there it will give you a list of all your animals. Animals that use a Breeding Pen, such as the Horned Eagle Aviary, will be shown in the Domestic Tab if you keep it outside of the Pen. The reason why I recommend you put animals like the Capybara in it's designated Breeding Pen is because unless you want to keep it out as a adventure companion there is a limit to how many animals one person can have at a time. The default number is 10 per player, but this can be changed in advanced settings for a custom world, the default number for pets allowed in a Tribe is 50.

Genesis Creatures
  • The Boar

  • Taming Level: Easy

  • Available Genders: Male and Female

  • Breeding Pen: N/A

  • Required Trap: Medium Trap

  • Colorations: Basic and Very Dark Brown (Found Only in Red Quality Boars)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The boar is found virtually everywhere in Soulmask, their like the mosquitoes of the game. Everywhere you step, I swear boars are like...literally, shoving theirs tusks into your face like once every foot. (I'm being dramatic btw...) Anyways, boars are the easiest mount to get right from the beginning. The boar is quick, but the downside to them is that much like the Ostrich, cannot jump, therefore, making it harder to climb rocks.

The boars can be found wandering in pairs of two or one, while a young boar child will be nearby.
Boars can be captured using a Medium Trap and a variety of baits, such as pineapple. The boar is rather simple to capture, make sure to clear any nearby boars before putting the trap down once you've picked out a boar calf. From there, it's a rather simple task of patience and staying back until the boar is in the trap. If your too close, like any smart baby animal, it will run from you.

  • The Parrot

  • Taming Level: Very Easy

  • Available Genders: Male and Female

  • Breeding Pen: Parrot Rack

  • Required Trap: Small Trap

  • Colorations: Red, Green, and Bright Blue ( Not sure if the blue color is found only with the Legendary quality parrots. But I have only found it with the Legendary parrots.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Parrot is easily trapped with a small trap and various baits, such as nuts, locusts, cornflour and even quinoa. The only tricky thing with capturing parrots is that their easily startled, so, when placing down traps try not to get too close and don't rush towards the trap too soon, otherwise the bird will fly away and you'll have to wait for a little bit for it to come back, also, don't chase it on impulse when it's flying away, I learned this pretty quickly. Parrots are quite common in nearly every corner of the rainforest.

I personally find parrots rather useless, other than just a pretty, but fragile pet to place on your shoulder. However, parrots can warn you if something comes after you or it detects a building, personally I just find it annoying when it warns you of EVERY SINGLE THING within a set distance.
You can however, disable the chat by holding E down when looking at the bird and this will pull up a list of various things you can do with the bird. Holding E down will also work for Tribesmen and other animals.

  • The Monkey

  • Taming Level: Very Easy

  • Available Genders: Male and Female

  • Breeding Pen: NA

  • Required Trap: Small Trap

  • Colorations: Basic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The monkey is much like the parrot, easily captured with a small trap, but, unless you attack them don't run from you. Monkeys can be lured into small traps with a variety of baits such as nuts, bananas, and pineapples. Monkeys can be found in groups of three and often clustered around or found running to a monkey nest that you can loot food from. Once domesticated, you can place your monkey on your shoulder, and if you have built a monkey nest, and set your new monkey's item pickup settings. Then, over time, your monkey(s) will store what they've gathered in the monkey nest and their inventories. The best thing about them? You don't need to feed them if you let them keep whatever food they have stored in their personal inventories.

  • The Capybara

  • Taming Level: Very Easy

  • Available Genders: Male and Female

  • Required Trap: Medium Trap

  • Breeding Pen: Capybara Pen

  • Colorations: Basic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Capybara doesn't have much use other than as an animal to put into it's designated breeding pen for slaughtering later. Although, you could always keep it in a house or a built pen to wander around freely if you merely want to have a fuzzy animal brighten up the place. The Capybara is found near any source of water in the rain forest and are super easy to catch. You can trap a young capybara with a Medium Trap and any kind of fruit, one you've set the trap down, it's merely patience and making sure no adult capybaras wander up and break the trap.

Genesis Creatures -- Part II
  • The Turkey

  • Taming Level: Very Easy

  • Available Genders: Male and Female

  • Required Trap: Medium Trap

  • Breeding Pen: Turkey Pen

  • Colorations: Basic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Much like the Capbybara, the turkey is quite common, it is found mainly in the Rainforest, in any section. Although, it is more common in the starting area. Turkeys again, much like the Capybara, doesn't serve much purpose other than an animal meant for slaughtering. Turkeys can be caught with a small trap and a variety of baits, such as nuts. The Turkey has no special color variants, the only thing affected is size.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • The Piranha

  • Taming Level: Easy

  • Available Genders: Male and Female

  • Required Trap: Fish Trap

  • Breeding Pen: Piranha Pool

  • Colorations: Basic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Piranha doesn't serve much purpose again, other than a slaughtering animal. Piranhas can be put in bodies of water though and if set to freedom, will move around once in awhile in the water if you don't put them in the Piranha Pool. Piranhas will also flop their way to the nearest body of water if you put them down on land. Piranhas can be caught with a Fish Trap and any kind of Beast Blood, this trap will also once in awhile catch koi fish in the Rainforest, (not sure about other areas yet though.) Their found virtually anywhere where there is water.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Medium Creatures
  • The Jaguar/Panther

  • Taming Level: Hard

  • Available Genders: Male (Female? - I've never found a female Jaguar cub before, so I'm assuming they don't exist, if anyone HAS seen a female cub though, feel free to correct me.)

  • Required Trap: Medium Trap

  • Breeding Pen: NA

  • Colorations: Basic and Black (Only found in Legendary Quality Jaguar Cubs.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Jaguar/Panther is the fastest mount in the game at the moment (If I'm wrong on this though, feel free to correct me.) So, naturally it is a commonly sought after mount (Even if it looks as derpy as a brainless squirrel lol.) Jaguars/Panthers are found in several places and the spawn locations for the Female Panthers are often crawling with other Jaguars; I HIGHLY recommend you clear as many of the nearby Jaguars as possible, to have less disturbances and problems to worry about while trying to find the cub.

--The Female Panther Spawn locations can be found in the red circled areas below--

I recommend you don't try this without at least bone weapons and leather gear of Legendary Quality so you have as much health as you can to work with when fighting the Female Panthers.
However if your rather impatient (Like Me...) THIS CAN be possibly done in linen gear, bone weapons, and a CRAP TON of stubborn determination. I suggest though that you take a trashy follower or two with you as Jaguar fodder.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---The mini-game explained---

The female panther is found by using the life scan for your mask, then, her prints will show up in bright, glowing blue. Look at them and follow the tracks, making sure to continuously use the mask's Life scan until you find her.

--1--
Once you find her, the female panther will pace back and forth, with a status notice floating over her. It should say Tracking Food, if it says Resting... right from the beginning, you'll have to either look at a different area or kill the Female Panther to reset the spawn.

Once you've located the female panther, keep pressing Q and keep a careful watch on her, moving away while crouched when necessary so you don't aggro her. If this happens and you kill the Female Panther, you won't find the Jaguar Cub and you'll have to wait till the next spawn.

--2--
After a bit, the Female Panther's status will change from Tracking Food to Returning Home. Proceed to follow her from a distance, don't get too close otherwise she'll aggro. Eventually, she'll stop and paw the ground as her status changes to Resting..., after she finishes pawing at the ground a small Jaguar will spawn; Female Panthers and Jaguar cubs will also spawn to match your Awareness Strength, and will go up to match yours each time your awareness strength levels up.

  • The Alpaca

  • Taming Level: Easy/Hard

  • Available Genders: Male and Female

  • Required Trap: Medium Trap

  • Breeding Pen: NA

  • Colorations: Basic, Tan, and Brown (Only in Red Quality Alpacas)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah yes, who doesn't love these adorable little clouds-on-legs? I know it's a pain of how slow they are though compared to the jaguars. I can't tell you how many times my friends have lost their walking clouds to cats, among other things. Luckily though, you can easily replace your little clouds in the starting biome. Once your ready, you can find your first alpaca in the second section of the rainforest in some of the Outcast ruins. The easiest place to reach is the Outcast ruins just outside the starting section of the rainforest.

After that, you can find wild alpacas in an area past the Mangrove Scout (Picture Below)
and in the plains where llamas and bison can be found as well.
Wild alpacas can be caught with a medium trap and a variety of baits such as quinoa, pumpkins, corn, and pineapples among others; Llama's require the same trap and bait as well. Much like the boar, alpacas wander in trios, one will be the baby, and the other two the adults. Wild alpacas will spit at you if you aggro them, luckily, it doesn't do fatal damage (Like a particular cat -_-)
