"Dark Sector" Remaster [ENG]

Dark Sector is a game that I have repaired more than once. I added it to my wishlist on November 23 out of nostalgia, and on the 27th it was given away for free. This game laid the foundation for Warframe and in its time provided a unique experience. It's a game worth playing, but first you need to fix it.

Launch game

Everything ingenious is simple:

1. Install the game.
2. Launch it.
3. Go to settings and set the desired resolution.
4. If desired, turn off post-processing, since nowadays it spoils the picture a lot.
5. Make control changes before making the DS.cfg file read-only.

Editing config

Here are some important things to consider so that the game doesn't look stretched out due to the 4:3 format and has a larger field of view (FOV) if you want it. You don't have to follow all the recommendations, but they can improve your gaming experience if you're looking for a more comfortable experience.

Enable widescreen without vertical distortion

Aspyr/Digital Extremes apparently switched 4:3 and 16:9 Calculations when developing the PC Port.

1. Go to <path-to-game>\Configs
2. Open DS.cfg
3. Find [Windows_Config,/Types/Config]
4. Add Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3 underneath it. (In config we set 4x3 because if we set 16x9 or 21x9 the image will stretch and the fonts will shift.)

5. Set the file as read-only.

Field of view (FOV)

1. Go to <path-to-game>\Configs
2. Open DS.cfg
3. Find [Windows_Config,/Types/Config]
4. Add Graphics.FOV=XX underneath it, where XX is your desired FOV (e.g. Graphics.FOV=90).
5. Set the file as read-only.

Enable windowed mode

1. Go to <path-to-game>\Configs
2. Open DS.cfg
3. Find [Windows_Config,/Types/Config]
4. Add Graphics.FullScreen=0 underneath it.
5. Open Editor.cfg
6. Find [MainGameWindowed,/Editor/WinRect]
7. Set the SizeX and SizeY lines to the desired resolution.

Keyboard settings are not saved

Unfortunately, this problem is related to the fact that we have set the «read-only» option for DS.cfg. To fix the situation, uncheck the box in the document properties, launch the game, but do not start any missions and do not change the graphics settings. Go straight to the control settings. After you change the controls to suit you, exit the game and check DS.cfg — your changes should appear there.

If everything is correct, then your own settings should not have been lost. But for safety and time saving, before starting these manipulations, you can copy the config settings to another notebook. Finally, be sure to set the «read-only» option again in the document properties.

Reshade

I play the game in 4k, but I think this resolution makes some effects incorrect. For example in buildings when the sun only shines in through the windowgrates, the whole room is covered in the window grate texture.

By the way, is there a way to fix the game not showing certain effects like flames or electricity? The game is running fine but it's missing a shitton of effects.

If you want to change the settings in the game itself, you need to remove the "read only" option from DS.cfg. Then the settings will change and be saved, but because of this, the lines you added will disappear, because after changing the resolution they will return to the original parameters.
