I'll be adding to this as questions come up on discord. I've also just quickly written this up to help someone randomly on discord over the course of an hour. So if I skip over anything inadvertently, let me know so I can correct it. This tends to be a relatively slow process, so if I don't update it right away - sorry for any delays.

Beginner's Guide Chapter 1: Welcome to Pax Dei!
So you've just bought the early access, and have spawned in. Unfortunately, besides spending an hour perfecting your very sexy avatar, I'm sure you have absolutely no idea how to play this game! Well, have no fear! I'm here to help you step by step as best I can.

Let's begin with the absolute basics. Do you see this majestic monolith ripped straight out of a Stanley Kubrick movie?

That's called the Petra Dei.

This is your spawn point. This is where you end up when you die and respawn. This is also where you'll recall to.

Do you also see a bunch of things laying around on the ground like rocks and sticks?

Those are VERY important! Pick them up now! Pick as many up as you can, because you will eventually need them all as time goes on.

Now press "TAB" on your keyboard. From there, click "Craft", which is the third tab in the center of the bar that will show up.

Proceed to create the following:

Construction Hammer
Gneiss Stone Axe
Pointy Stick
Crude Shield

Beginner's Guide Chapter 2: Finding your forever home.
Now that you've outfitted yourself with the absolute bare bones of equipment. You need to find an area that you can call your own. This is important in Pax Dei - not only is this game focused primarily around the creation of your own base, but it's important to use your plot as a base of operations for storage, crafting and more.

So without further ado. Highlight your Hammer. Then while the hammer is highlighted, right click your mouse to bring up the "Plots" screen.

Choose "Unclaimed Plot" on the plots screen, and then keep looking around until you find a spot that is highlighted as blue. Orange means you can not place it. Usually this is due to the proximity to other people's plots, or due to a road being nearby. Sometimes other people's objects can prevent the placement of your plot as well.

Once you've got your plot placed down, now you can build things on it! Let's start by building the basic "Wood Chopping Block", this is necessary to not only allow you to make important building materials, but to also grind your carpentry later on.

Crafting in Pax Dei is entirely dependent on your skill. The requirement of crafting a Plank for instance is "4 Carpentry" - if you start at level 1 carpentry, this will likely be very hard, and will result in a large amount of failures. Don't worry though! You will eventually improve, and it will become very easy to create what you need! Persistence is the key in Pax Dei.

Once you've got your Chopping Block set up. You'll then need a Basic Carpenter's Workbench.

4 Wooden Beams
6 Planks
20 Wooden Pegs

You can use your Wood Chopping Block to make these materials.

Believe it or not, this is all you actually need to begin building your homebase! Just note that you will not have 100% access to all building goods yet, as that requires a higher carpentry level. Still, you can very easily make due with the basic stone foundations and wood hut walls.

Take some time to get creative and make something that you think would be a good starter base. You can always delete it and remake it later, so don't fret about the little things.

To make a foundation for your home, you will need clay and gneiss (stone) - Clay can be found by shorelines of water in large clusters.

Gneiss can be mined in nodes using a stone pickaxe, or found on the ground.

For the hut, you'll likely need reed, which can also be found by shorelines - usually right up against the water.

You can easily get sapwood from using your Gneiss Axe to cut down trees, or you can continue to pick up the branches by the Petra Dei (You won't find as many, or any branches or gneiss rocks laying around outside of the petra dei area, so be aware of that!)

If you have your Carpenter's Bench created, you can actually take some time to make a Stone Pickaxe, which will allows you to mine Gneiss, Copper and Tin. Mining with a Stone Pickaxe will net you Gneiss and Sand which are both useful materials.

Another important item that you will want to make with your Carpenter's Bench is a "Simple Chest" - which is an important object that you can place with your construction hammer to serve as storage for all of your myriad of items.

Anyhow, this should give you what you need for a bare bones base. In the next chapter, we're going to start talking about the steady line of progression for a solo player in Pax Dei. Everything is interconnected, so you can expect to be forced to grind a very large amount of skills just to create the next tier of equipment and workbenches.
Beginner's Guide Chapter 3: Ready to move up in the world?
Once you've got a starter base that you are confident and happy with. Now comes the main crux of the game of Pax Dei. Grinding. By pressing J, you can bring up your Journal to see exactly every single skill that is in this game. 16 Crafting Skills and 10 Combat Skills in total. You will likely need to make use of nearly 12 out of 16 crafting skills to get the most out of Pax Dei, with only about four being purely optional. So if you're actually planning to play Solo. Expect to put in a lot of work.

My suggestion is - if you aren't willing to grind heavy hours in your time in Pax Dei. Go to the Pax Dei Discord, and find yourself a Clan to join on your chosen server. You'll likely be a lot happier, and will be streamlined through the game much faster and comfortably.

For the rest of you who are crazy - like me - and want to solo your way through? Prepare yourself.

I will proceed to do my best to give you a guide from your starting base's creation, all the way to Tier 2 workbenches. It is a long, arduous process with a lot of grinding involved, so don't go into this half-heartedly.
Solo Guide Chapter 1: Bronze Production
Your first steps after getting your base up, and filling it with storage and whatever amenities you feel look nice, is to get the other workbenches up. As a solo, you will be receiving no help in this process, which means you must gather everything - craft everything.

This means you will need furnaces, charcoal kilns and workbenches!

To begin your journey, your goal should be to create a Basic Blacksmith Workbench - Which will require:

1 Basic Blacksmithing Tool
4 Wooden Beams
6 Planks
20 Wooden Pegs.

The creation of that Basic Blacksmithing Tool meanwhile requires:

2 Bronze Sheets
2 Bronze Bars
4 Bronze Nails.

This means you will need to produce bronze to progress! Bronze is made by smelting Tin and Copper into Tin and Copper Ingots, then using those ingots to create Bronze Ingots. As seen in the previous chapter, you will need to locate Copper Deposits and Tin Deposits, and you need to use a Stone Pickaxe to mine them down to collect tin ore and copper ore.

However, you will also need to create facilities to produce these ores! That means Basic Charcoal Kilns and Basic Furnaces.

Gather up 60 clay, 8 gneiss and 12 short wood stocks to create a Basic Furnace, and 25 clay and 10 sapwood to create a Basic Charcoal Kiln. Once you have both on your plot, you can then begin to create charcoal.

By chopping down trees, you can produce sapwood, which can then be added to the Charcoal Kiln. 50 Sapwood will create 25 Charcoal, of which, 30 charcoal will be necessary to create copper ingots and tin ingots. 100 charcoal will be necessary to create the bronze ingots afterwords. So my suggestion is to create a lot of charcoal very early, once you get your charcoal kiln up! If you're very industrious and can chop trees efficiently, you can even make extra charcoal kilns to create the charcoal faster!

Now, while your Charcoal and Ingots are being created. The next thing you're going to want to create is an "Anvil Stone" from your Basic Carpenter's Workbench.

This will then allow you to create a "Stone Anvil" from your construction menu with 5 Gneiss and 10 sapwood.

Using this Stone Anvil, once you have your Bronze Ingots created - you can proceed to make the resulting Bronze Bars, which you can fashion into Bronze Nails. Don't forget to make a stack of Bronze Sheets as well to complete your Basic Blacksmith Workbench.

After that, congratulations! You've created your Basic Blacksmith Workbench, which will open up even more venues and items to create!
Solo Guide Chapter 2: Workbenches Everywhere
You've got your Blacksmithing Workbench set up, but you're still not done. You're going to need a whole lot of Workbenches to truly thrive as a solo player. Why? Most skills intermingle with other skills to create things. There will be times when you will need high Leatherworking Skill to create Tools on your Blacksmithing Workbench. Likewise, there will often be times when you will need high Blacksmithing to make Buckles for Leatherworking products.

So, my suggestion is - get your Workbenches up and get yourself ready for the wonderful world of Solo Grinding every skill. (Yes, even Cooking, Charcuterie and Alchemy are useful for solos)

You will want to make the following:

Basic Leatherworking Tools (1 Bone Fragment, 10 Sapwood, 5 Flint)
Simple Tanning Rack (6 Long Wood Stock, 2 Short Wood Stock, 8 Reed)
Simple Leatherworking Table ( 1Basic Leatherworking Tools, 4 Wooden Beam, 6 Plank, 20 Wooden Pegs)
Basic Weaponsmithing Tools (4 Bronze Bar, 5 Bronze Nails, 2 Short Wood Stock)
Basic Weaponsmithing Workbench (1 Basic Weaponsmithing Tools, 4 Wooden Beam, 6 Plank, 20 Wooden Pegs)

Once you have every one of these workbenches up. Take some time to tan some leather into Rawhide. Then use the Leatherworkbench to create Coarse Leather String. (Make at least 15 in total for everything you'll need later)

=============================================

The next set of things you want to build are:

Spinning Wheel (10 Short Wood Stock, 1 Plank, 6 Wooden Pegs)
Basic Tailoring Parts (1 Bone Fragment, 5 Flax Fiber, 10 Sapwood)

You will also want to gather up some Flax from a nearby Scrublands or Rolling Hills biome, and use it to create some coarse linen string from the Spinning Wheel. This will allow you to make the following for later:

Simple Tailoring Table (1 Basic Tailoring Parts, 4 Wooden Beam, 6 Plank, 20 Wooden Pegs, 5 Coarse Linen String)
Simple Loom (12 Plank, 40 Wooden Pegs, 8 Short Wood Stock, 40 Coarse Linen String, 12 Coarse Leather String.

=============================================

Optionally you will also want to make the following (It's suggested you do, but it's not required):

Basic Fletching Tools (20 Flint, 20 Sapwood, 10 Reed)
Basic Fletching Table (1 Basic Fletching Tools, 4 Wooden Beam, 6 Plank, 20 Wooden Pegs)
Basic Cooking Tools (1 Bronze Sheet, 2 Short Wood Stock, 2 Flint)
Basic Cooking Workbench (1 Basic Cooking Tools, 60 Gneiss, 50 Charcoal, 25 Clay)
Basic Cooking Hearth (1 Basic Cooking Tools, 20 Gneiss, 50 Charcoal, 25 Clay, 2 Copper Ingot)
Basic Alchemy Instruments (5 Copper Ingots, 2 Bronze Bar, 5 Rough Glass)
Basic Alchemy Table (1 Basic Alchemy Instruments, 4 Wooden Beam, 6 Plank, 20 Wooden Pegs, 5 Rough Glass)
Basic Reagent Distiller (4 Plank, 12 Bronze Nails, 10 Rough Glass, 100 Bronze Studs)

=============================================

Once you've got all of your required workbenches done, it's time to create the Basic Forge! Start by creating the Basic Bellows (Long Wood Stock, 3 Coarse Leather String, 4 Rawhide, 10 Sapwood, 20 Bronze Nails, 1 Iron Anvil Head) on the Blacksmithing Workbench.

Then place it in the construction menu under "Basic Forge" (1 Basic Bellows, 2 Wooden Beam, 4 Plank, 2 Clay, 10 Charcoal, 3 Gneiss, 20 Wooden Pegs)

This will open up a wide venue of options that you didn't have on your Stone Anvil, in particular, you will have the option to create Iron equipment.

For now, let's put a pin in this. Iron Production is important, but there is a diversion that is equally as useful to you as a solo player. Take some time to look over your Weaponsmith Workbench and see if you can craft a decent weapon that's quick and easy... but don't worry if you can't, a pointy stick and a crude shield will help you with the following chapter.
Solo Guide Chapter 3: Equipping Yourself
You're going to be dealing with a lot of combat as a Solo player. Not only will you be expected to fight potentially thousands of boars - but due to the inability to stitch together small or medium tier 2 hides together, you will actually have to fight bears for your tier 2 large animal hides. This means the most important thing you can do for yourself early in your run is to get yourself some very good equipment.

Luckily Mainframe has graced us with new camps in the game. These are known as the Inquisitor camps.

As a new player, you should focus primarily on the level 4 Inquisitor camps that are nearest to the Petra Dei, or any respawn shrines in your homeland. Dying in this game can be difficult if you're far away from a respawn, especially since your main weapons by this point will be a Pointy Stick and a Crude Shield.

Your goal is to isolate, and kill off the level 4 inquisitors that you find at these camps. Remember to CTRL + Left Click to use the Jab special attack with your pointy spear for extra damage. More importantly, remember to CTRL + right click to use the Shield Bash special attack with your Crude Shield. The Shield Bash stuns enemies, and gives you openings to do more damage before they can retaliate.

The Inquisitors actually drop a lot of very good loot for early game players. Sometimes you'll get already smelted Iron Ingots. Sometimes you'll get ultra-valuable Iron Ore. However, your aim is to collect Cracked Lockets, Worn Out Lockets, Small Amulet - Earth, Small Amulet - Water and Small Amulet - Air.

Collecting the Amulets will give you the recipes for the following equipment:

These pieces of armour come with very special magic that can be added to your task bar by Pressing "I" to bring up your inventory. Then highlighting one of the 5 circles in the bottom right corner of your screen.

Breath of Life restores 17 HP/s for 5 seconds.
Breath of Balance restores 50 stamina after a 3 second cast.
Breath of Joy is a 7s sprint buff that increases your run speed, and removes all stamina use while running. (This is the best spell in the game right now.)

Select the spells that come up to add them to the task bar. You can then use CTRL + 1 through 5 to cast the spells.

Solo Guide Chapter 4: Iron Production
During these chapters, you've hopefully been keeping up with your skills. Bronze alone should be able to get you to level 10 Weaponsmithing and 8 Blacksmithing. You've also probably had a little time to go through your new workbenches, and have come to the conclusion that better weapons and armor are a good idea. I'm inclined to agree - take some more time between these chapters to make yourself the best gear you can for your skill levels.

If, by chance you've been working on your Weaponsmithing (And you should be) - you may have come across something known as the "Bronze Pickaxe", not only is this little beauty the best item to grind on to 10 Weaponsmithing, it's also imperative to have.

This little Pickaxe is something that will lead you down the path of progression all on it's own. By creating this, you open up the possibility to mine those pesky little "Impure Iron Deposits" you've probably noticed laying around the cliffside by the Tin and Copper nodes.

With the Bronze Pickaxe in hand, take it upon yourself to start farming these Impure Iron Deposits to your hearts content. Then when you feel you've collected enough, smelt it down into Iron Ingots. During this time, you'll probably notice a need for even more charcoal. This is because, unlike Bronze, you will need a large quantity of Iron Ingots to really grind through the necessary levels it takes to get to Tier 2 workbenches. My suggestion is to ramp up your production time, by increasing the number of furnaces and kilns. I personally went with around 3 furnaces, and 10 kilns. Others can do better with more, or less pending on how willing they are to farm sapwood and impure iron ore to keep the kilns and furnaces fed.

Regardless of how much effort you're willing to put into it. Your goal remains the same right now. Garnering Tier 2 Workbenches. Right now you have only the basic forms of the workbenches, otherwise known as the Tier 1's. This is limited in that you can not create everything in the game on them, you can only create maybe 1/3rd of what's possible on Basic Workbenches.

However, the requirements to making the most important Tier 2 workbench (The one that makes the others), the Carpentry Workbench are:

Carpenters Tools (1 Wrought Iron Nail, 1 Boiled Generic Leather)
Carpenter Workbench (1 Carpenter's Tools, 4 Fine Wood Beam, 6 Fine Wood Plank, 20 Wooden Pegs)

This means, to create a Carpenter's Workbench, you will need at the very minimum:

19 Blacksmithing to make Wrought Iron Bars/Nails/Knife Head.
16 Leatherworking to make Generic Boiled Leather.
15 Carpentry to actually place the Tier 2 Carpenter Workbench.

Another important skill milestone you're likely going to want will include:

15 Tailoring to make Coarse Linen String for the Tier 2 Forge

Now that you've got your Iron Production started, it's time for you to grind.
Solo Guide Chapter 5: WIP

Grind Guide - Alchemy
(15 Alchemy is used to actually place your Tier 2 Alchemy Table.)

Alchemy is going to be a HEAVILY subjective grind. Honestly, it will depend more on what you have the easiest access to, when it comes to grinding. I'm going to give up on a linear form of progression.

People in clans however, can instead use Leatherworking Tools to Wrought Iron. Furnace Parts will require a lot of generic boiled leather, which likely is only possible again, if you have friends or neighbours with tier 2 workbenches for you to use.)

Grind Guide - Tailoring
(15 Tailoring is used to make Coarse Cloth String for Tier 2 Workbenches.)

Skill 1 -> 2: Coarse Linen String or Swing Needles
Skill 2 -> 3: Cloth Pins
Skill 3 -> 5: Plain Cloth Pants
Skill 5 -> 10: Rough Linen String
Skill 10 -> 11: Rough Cloth Tippet
Skill 11 -> 13: Rather Simple Cloth Tippet
Skill 13 -> 14: Unremarkable Undergarment
Skill 14 -> 20: Linen String
Skill 20 -> 21: Coarse Cotton Cord (Trust me, this is better than anything involving cloth pins)
Skill 20 -> 23: Rough Wool Yarn (Trust me, this is better than anything involving cloth pins)
Skill 23 -> 30: Fine Linen String
Skill 30 -> 31: Rough Cotton Cord (Trust me, this is better than anything involving cloth pins)
Skill 31 -> 33: Wool Yarn (Trust me, this is better than anything involving cloth pins)
Skill 33 -> 40: Cotton Cord (Trust me, this is better than anything involving cloth pins)

Cloth Pins become obscenely expensive after around level 15 for items, and it becomes much faster to simply farm Level 15+ boars for wool, or to make a trip to a Drowned Lands for cotton, than it does to actually make anything like a tippet above level 15.

Grind Guide - Winemaking and Brewing
(15 Cooking is used to actually place your Tier 2 Cooking Workbench, so Winemaking skill doesn't matter here.)

Winemaking, like Alchemy can be very subjective and entirely based on what you have closest to you. It's not as bad as Alchemy, but do expect a lot of And/Or's. This will also not be a linear progression table.

Skill 1 -> 2: Shire Gold (Blueberry/Honey)
Skill 1 -> 4: Strawberry Mead (Strawberry/Honey)
Skill 1 -> 5: Plain Ale (Barley Grain -> Malt/Yeast -> Weak Ale Base)
Disclaimer: If you live nearby Barley, making Ale's are probably the easiest to grind.
Skill 4 -> 8: Small Cider (Raspberry/Honey)
Skill 6 -> 11: Autumn Heat (Blackberry/Honey)
Skill 7 -> 12: Farmhouse Cider (Blueberry Syrup)
Skill 9 -> 14: Harvest Gold Ale (Honey/Barley Grain -> Weak Ale Base)
Skill 11 -> 16: Meadow Song Ale (Barley Grain -> Cloudy Ale Base)
Disclaimer: If you live nearby Barley, making Ale's are probably the easiest to grind.

Skill 15 -> 21: Weak Mead (Honey/Barley Grain -> Weak Mead Base)
Skill 18 -> 24: Raspberry Mead (Raspberry/Honey/Barley Grain -> Cloudy Mead Base)
Skill 19 -> 25: Summer Heat (Red Apple/Honey/Raspberry Syrup)

Disclaimer: Weak Beer Base requires level 23 Winemaking
Skill 23 -> 30: Piquette (White Grapes -> Weak White Wine Base)
Skill 24 -> 31: Dry White (White Grapes -> Weak White Wine Base)
Skill 26 -> 33: Kerys Cider (Red Apple/Honey/Red Currant Syrup)

Skill 28 -> 35: Harvest Glow Ale (Yeast + Hops/Barley Grain -> Strong Ale Base)
Skill 30 -> 37: Summer Brew (Hops/Barley Grain -> Cloudy Beer Base)
Skill 30 -> 37: Lora des Papes (White Grapes -> Cloudy White Wine Base)
Skill 32 -> 39: Red Currant Mead (Honey/Red Currant/Hops/Barley Grain -> Strong Mead Base)
Skill 32 -> 39: Gallian Red (White Grapes -> Cloudy White Wine Base)
Disclaimer: Yes, Gallian Red uses White Grapes... don't ask me why.
Skill 32 -> 40: Mulled Redwine (Red Grapes -> Weak Red Wine Base)
Skill 33 -> 40: Bold Winter Stout (Honey/Hops/Barley Grain -> Cloudy Beer Base)

FAQ #1 - Where to find Heartwood.
Oaks Trees in Old Forest give heartwood. Oaks are the dark barked ones, while beech are the light barked ones. This requires an Iron+ Hatchet.

Twisted Oaks in Forsaken Forest give Heartwood at I think 35+ Woodcutting. This requires a Wrought Iron+ Hatchet

Juniper Trees in Lands of Stone/The Pale give heartwood at any level woodcutting. This requires an Iron+ Hatchet

Fir Trees in Evergreen Forest give random amounts (0 to maybe 10) of heartwood at any level woodcutting. This requires a Bronze+ Hatchet

Hawthorne Trees that look like the small sized juniper trees in the Scrublands give 4 heartwood at any level woodcutting also. This requires a Bronze+ Hatchet.

Pine Trees in the Eerie Pines give random amounts (Around 20) of heartwood at any level woodcutting. This requires an Iron+ hatchet.

Beech Trees in the Rolling Hills give random amounts (Around 10) of heartwood at any level woodcutting. This requires a Bronze+ Hatchet.

Birch Trees (Large) in the Old Forest give random amounts (Around 8) of heartwood at any level woodcutting. This requires a Bronze+ Hatchet.

Birch Trees (Medium) in the Old Forest give random amounts (Around 5) of heartwood at any level woodcutting. This requires a Stone+ Hatchet.

They did say they were bringing it in line with how it was prior to Proving Grounds being released. So it 'should' be a lot more manageable. Regardless, I'll keep it updated.

Remarkable. I hope it won't be too much work next week after the patch next week that will bring the craft XP where it was.
