Everholm - Things Worth Noting
Door Tenoshii
This is an informal start to a collection of observations and information about starting out in Everholm. The focus are on aspects and mechanics of the game that aren't necessarily called out directly by game tutorials or UI information while staying away from reference and walkthrough type details (i.e. no extensive maps, shrine locations, recipes, vendor pricing, etc).

Game Interface
While it's not displayed directly on the meters in the UI, you can see your current Health, Mana and Energy in the bottom right of the screen after mousing over the appropriate meter.

When you have the backpack screen open, clicking the swirly icon in the bottom center will open a stats panel to the right of the backpack. This will show a variety of miscellaneous attributes and bonuses for your character.

While it might seem mostly just "cute" at first, the small emoticons that appear above planted crops can be used to tell if they have been watered (shows a smiley face). This can be particularly helpful when growing crops that eventually take up so much of the tilled space that you can't really tell if the soil beneath it is watered or not.

While it takes some time to get friendly enough, eventually the player can "track" the NPCs of Everholm on the world map.

Once you have unlocked the "Job Board" keep in mind that other NPCs can take jobs as well. In addition, the three jobs remain on the board until the duration has expired (even if you complete it early).

The scroll bar that's displayed on the right page of the "End of Day" summary screen blends in quite well with the page itself. So you might not notice right off that it's there. Don't forget to use it to see the itemized prices.

Game Mechanics
The closest source of water to refill your watering can is the pond with ducks north of your farm. You refill by selecting the watering can and left clicking in the water.

NOTE - You can't refill it from the bird bath looking object between your home and the greenhouse.

There's actually a two-tile source of water on the Northeast border of the Farm, though it might be initially "hidden" by a fully grown tree. Thanks to Liljoyforever for this correction!

Wild ducks (at the pond north of your farm) will periodically leave eggs that you can pick up every few days.

NOTE - This also applies to other critters on the map (foxes, raccoons, etc).

Don't be discouraged if certain mechanics or areas of the game aren't available to you in the first few days of the game. These are slowly unlocked as the days progress (i.e. getting access to the dungeon and your first melee weapon from the witch on Day 7).

When the witch provides you with a "Dash" potion, drinking it enables you to use spacebar (or whatever your default control is) to quickly move forward in the direction you are moving at the cost of 2 energy.

There are a variety of flowers and bushes that spawn every few days throughout Everholm. The player is able to harvest those without using a tool and spending energy.

Once you discover the Night Merchant you may want to consider acquiring the "Iron Sword" not just for the extra damage but because it is also capable of the following things that the "Wooden Club" can't do:
  • Able to break vases in the Dungeon
  • Able to cut grass in the Dungeon
  • Able to break/cut multiple objects if they are adjacent in a narrow cone in front of the player
  • Has nearly twice the attack speed of the "Wooden Club"

closest source of water is actually right next to your greenhouse - north-east as if going towards town. It's very small and quite missable!
