Name suggestions for your wolves, pack and dens.
Por topp
To me, at least, naming my wolves is a very important part of the game. So, if you are having trouble with that as well, here are some name suggestions for your wolf, your wolf’s mate, your wolf’s pups, and any other wolves you meet and wish to name. They are categorized in sections by theme, so they shouldn’t be hard to look through. As it is impossible for me to think of and add all possible names, I ask people to comment names or themes I don’t have, and I will add them, thus making this guide more complete.

I have also included some pack names, in with the other names, in case you are having trouble finding the right name for your pack. You are welcome to comment more pack names, and I will add them. And there is a section with Den and Site names, near the end of the guide, for those people who like naming their dens and sites, but would like some more ideas. Once again, feel free to suggest more den names to help make this guide more complete.

If you are having trouble finding names for specific wolves/pups, or a more specific name for a pack, I can help with that too. Check the last section in the guide for more information on this.

If you like this guide and find it helpful, please do not forget to 'like' it. The more 'likes' a guides has, the easier it is for other people to find.

You are welcome to use any of these names in any way that you want. They don’t belong to me. I hope this guide will help you name your wolves :)

Sections I will add/am working on.
Here are several sections that are currently being worked on, and names/sections I will be adding. If you have name ideas that fit in any of these sections, feel free to suggest them and help make this guide even better.

Currently being worked on:
  • The God/Historic section (needs Historic names)
  • The Underwater Section
  • The Names from games, movies, and books section
Going to be adding:
  • Several names that Naftali and other people suggested that I am still going through.

  • I will be adding some more human-names-that-mean-things to sections such as Fire, Weather, and Snow.
If you have names that fit in any of the other sections, feel free to suggest them too. These are just the sections that need the most work. Feel free to suggest completely new sections too.

Status/Ranking names (as well as Greek letter names, since people use Greek letters for the ranks in WolfQuest Roleplay).
This section includes some strange names, but I’ve known people to name their pups Alpha, Beta, Delta, etc…, so if you want to do the same, here are some ideas. A pup named Wizard or Ranger sounds impressive. Or what about Prince for your little heir? Lead the Sorcery Pack, or live up to your name as the Fierce Fighters Pack.

The Wolf Roleplay Ranking names mainly come from a guide made by @navi. If you use one for a rank that isn’t mentioned, please tell me and I can add it. All of these are Greek letters, so if you name your wolves after the Greek letters rather than the Roleplay ranks, I have also included all the rest of the Greek letters. (please keep in mind that these ranking systems only exist in people’s Roleplay games, and not in wild wolves)

Alpha (the leader)
Beta (the second in command)
Delta (third in command, or lead hunter)
Zeta (war general/lead warrior)
Kappa (lead hunter)
Gamma (lead scout (some people call them the Elders, but I think of elder as an age, not a rank))
Epsilon (Guard, or scout/hunter)
Scout
Hunter
Warrior
Theta (healer)
Iota (healer’s apprentice)
Omega (lowest rank)

Silly Names (was created when orang3boba suggested a bunch of names that wouldn't fit elsewhere).
Mainly funny names, like the Food and Collectible Items sections, to help ease the tension if a pup dies. Or at least that's what I'd use them for. They may seem like odd names from a glance, but believe me, some of them will grow on you. Name your pups Stained Shirt, Holey sock, and Ripped Jeans. Perfect names for the Overflowing Drawer Pack.

Name Combos
You can always give your wolf a more complicated name. I often do. Just put two words together
You can put two parts together like a first and last name;
Helena Nightingale (this is actually the name of one of my wolves, but you are welcome to use it)
Blue Pebble
River Song
Bracken Leap
Oak Star
Striped Tiger
Fluttering Moth
Cloudy Cheeks
Frozen Lake
Sleepers Dream
Cloudy Hill
Swooping Eagle (or Swooping Hawk, Suggested by ~SilverLynx~)

The five below were Suggested by ~SilverLynx~
Meadow Dream
Soaring Dove
Falcon Tail
Silent Swoop
Silver Wren

Or go for something more fancy, such as:
Heron's Cry
Owl's Swoop
Fire's Path
Olivia's Light
Raven's Dream Suggested by ~SilverLynx~
Crow's Call Suggested by ~SilverLynx~

Or put the two name parts together to create names such as:
Lightwish
Hazeltail
Fireriver
Bluestar
Mooseshriek Suggested by littlepaws.
Darkcloak
Frostripple
Squirreltail
Glassbreaker
Firetree
Rainsky
Diamondmelt
Rosethorn
Swallowsong Suggested by Gooseberry
Sunshower Suggested by ~SilverLynx~
(for anyone who knows the series of books called "Warriors" or better known as "Warrior Cats", yes I am a fan, and yes, that is the inspiration behind these names)

Oh go for something really fancy and cool sounding, such as:
Fire of Thorns
Ripples on Water
Wind in Far Trees
Song of the River
Night of Fires

Have fun naming your wolf :)
Den and Site Names
Do you like naming your den? But is it sometimes hard to think of the right name. Well, here are some name ideas. For a rock den, you could go with TipTop Rock Den. And doesn't Sand Slide Burrow fit a dirt den? What about Sunset View or Lovely View, for a den in a beautiful location. So many choices, so few dens.

Suggested by ~SilverLynx~
Bison Hollow
Founders Rest
Sandy Plateau
Coyote Shelter
Wooded Sanctum

Suggested by littlepaws
Balanced Slopes (for the balanced rock den in Hellroaring)

Suggested by Gooseberry
Sunset View den/site
Sand Slide burrow
Stag Hoof den/site
Bunny Tail burrow
(Just an example for a pup memorial den site *sobs* ) Barley's beloved burrow

You could name a den after a lost pup. If you loose a pup named Flower, you could name your den Flower's Memorial, or Flower's Beloved den/site, or Flower's Memory.

Some den names that I've used. Feel free to use any of them.
TipTop Rock Den (My first den. Used for the large rock den in SC that is above McBride Lake)
Cleft in Rock Den (good for most dens in rock faces)
Sunset Ridge Den/site (named after my pup Sunset, although he is still living)
Juniper Tree Den (named after a tree near the den, although it is certainly not a juniper)
The Longgrass Den/site
The Long Search Den/site (how I felt once I got to the den)
The Back and Forth Site
The Nosick Den/site (I was hoping)
Tallplan Site
Tree Guardian Den/site
Lake Overlook Site/den
Bearblower Den/site
The River Tree site.
Hare Run Den/site
Hilltop Site/den
BearMountain Den/site
The High Hill Den/site
Broken Tree Den
Red Ground Den/site (named because the ground around it seemed red)
Wonder Stream Site
Fallen Tree Den
Lost Cabin Den (the cabin den in LR)
Lovely View Den/site
The BloodBeast Den (in AM, the abandoned beaver lodge. It looks red before you claim it)
Rockslide Den (in MP)
Small Rock Den
Dirty Cove
Cosy Cove
Green Tree Cove (all the coves were with the same wolf)
Tall Grass Hideout site
Green Stump Root Den
Lone Pup Den/site (I had but one pup left, having lost the others)
Sad Flake Den/site (same wolf as above, having one pup left. Wolf's name was Snowflake)
Water Escape Den/site
Carrot Root Den (good for any dirt den with roots dangling from the ceiling)
One Pine Meadow site
Three Tree Shelter site
Lookout Camp
Sage Grass Burrow
Rain Tree Safety
Mountain Top den/Site
Road Overlook site (for one in LR)
Tree Hideout den/Site

Here is a very helpful guide that shows where all the dens are in AM, SC, and LR. If you are wondering which dens I named which, here are a few.

The den I always name TipTop Rock is SC den #22. The den I called Juniper Tree Den, is SC den #4. I have also called #4 Cleft in Rock Den, and Rockslide Den (MP). Tree Guardian Den was SC den #18. Fallen Tree den was AM den #16. I think AM #15 was Red Ground den. Lost Cabin Den was LR den #8. The BloodBeast den is AM den #17. Small Rock Den is SC den #21. Green Tree Cove and Green Stump Root Den were both names for SC den #24. Water Escape was SC den #20. I think Carrot Root Den was SC den #15.

More specific name suggestions
Do you prefer having several names suggested instead of looking through lists of many possible names? Do you have pups whom you have no idea what you want to name? I can help with that too.

• Comment something like “I have a female wolf who needs a name. She has the Original Gray coat. I’d like a name that has something to do with the sea.” I might respond with “You could name her Sea, Wave, Coast, or Marina (which means ‘of the sea’). Hope this helps.”

• Or you could comment “I have two patchy dark brown pups. Both are males. I named one Crow. I am wondering what I could name the other so the two names will go together.” I may answer “You could name the other pup Raven, Jackdaw, or Rook.”

• Or you could comment “I want to name my pack a name that has something to do with fire, since my wolf’s name is Flame. Any ideas?” I might respond with “You could name the pack The Burning Ember pack. Or The Leaping Flame pack. Or The Blazing Tree pack.”

If you tell me what color your wolf/pup is, I may be able to suggest a name that fits the wolf better than if I didn’t know their color. Also, you can tell me whether you would prefer a nature name, like Ghost or Tree, or a human name that means something, like Marina which means ‘of the sea’, or Silvia which means ‘spirit of the wood’.

Other people are welcome to comment ideas for the person as well. Any ideas that are commented, I may add to the guide for further use, so don’t comment a name that you want to keep personal.

Feel free to ask what the inspiration was behind any of these names/sections. I understand that some of them are quite odd, and I would be happy to explain :)
