Basic information.
Ellis - one of the four survivors of Left 4 Dead 2. A simple-minded but intelligent 23-year-old guy from Savannah.

He worked in an auto repair shop and loved spending time with his friends. Like the Coach, he is a fan of the Midnight Riders band, as well as a fan of racing. When the zombie apocalypse came, Ellis was not afraid at all, but on the contrary, well armed, went to prove to the infected that they should be afraid of him.

Ellis likes to comment on everything that happens around him and often tells other survivors ridiculous stories about his friend Keith out of place. Ellis is a very good-natured and naive guy, as a result of which Nick often makes fun of him.

Ellis' facial features were taken from Jesy McKinney, and the character was voiced by Eric Ladin.

The official description.
Name: Ellis
Age: 23
Hometown: Savannah, Georgia
Ellis is a mechanic, loves life, firmly believes in his own immortality and is able to treat any failure as a kind of joke. Born and raised in Savannah, Ellis divided his free time between working in a workshop, hanging out with friends and visiting his mom for Sunday dinner. Who would want to live differently?
But the zombies came and destroyed everything. Now Ellis is looking for new activities that can entertain him — and finds them. Ellis quickly realized that the zombie apocalypse was one big challenge where he could impress his new friends.
Various.
There is a logo on Ellis's T—shirt - with the inscription "Bullshifters". The artist Andrea Wicklund, who was responsible for her design, gave a detailed comment about its origin in an email:

The story of the T-shirt originated from Ellis' passion for trucks. We got the idea that Ellis and a couple of his friends from high school organized their own truck club, which may or may not still exist, and called themselves "Bullshifters", having figured out the logo. If you haven't figured it out yet, then this is a play on words: "shifters" refers to cars, trucks, and "bullshifters"... well, you get it. (Valve's brilliant screenwriter Eric Walpow is the one to thank for his creativity.)
As for the drawing, I was inspired by "Big Daddy" Roth. This is an artist infamous for his appeal to motorheads (the essence of bikers — ed.). His style was obviously suitable for the design of the T-shirt.
Based on one remark by Ellis, he once took karate lessons.
In early versions of the game, Ellis's cap was supposed to have a St. George's cross on it. Perhaps this indicates that at some point in the design stage, Ellis was an Englishman, not an American.
Ellis's tattoo on his right arm resembles Lewis's tattoo from the Primal game.
Ellis is the only character in the game who constantly holds a Magnum pistol and a P220 pistol with one hand. Coach and Rochelle also have a similar ability, but only if their health drops below 40 units.
Ellis is a Catholic. It's supposed to be because of his phrase about Nick's costume.
In another version, it is assumed that he is a member of the Episcopal Church of the USA (part of the Anglican Church). The Episcopalian faith believes in the sacrament of Holy Communion. In addition, the Episcopal Church has a significant number of believers in the south, including Savannah. The Anglican Church also holds Communion-like events called the Eucharist.
Ellis shares numerous stories in which his buddy Keith is constantly the main character. Although the chatterbox also has an exceptional story about the mall, where his other friend— Dave, is mentioned.
Funny fact: if Ellis gets hit by a stone thrown by a tank while telling a story, he will continue to tell his story as if nothing had happened.
Ellis's phrase "DIE, DIE MY DARLINS! DIE, DIE, DIE!!" quotes the line of the song "Die, Die My Darling" by the punk rock band The Misfits, a cover version of which was released by Metallica.
Ellis was apparently interested in firearms from a very young age. For example, here is the phrase: "Damn! I have dreamed of such a rifle since the cradle" (English Man, I wanted this rifle since I was nine). At the same time, he claims that he learned to shoot even before he learned to walk.
When Ellis picks up a chainsaw, he can say, "If I lose my arm, I'll sew a saw in its place," which is a reference to the cult classic horror film "The Sinister Dead," where the main character, Ash Williams, had to chop off his hand after it was possessed by evil spirits and replace it with a chainsaw. Although, this is probably a reference to the MadWorld game, where the main character has a chainsaw instead of a hand.
Before the epidemic, Ellis, together with his friends, ran an auto repair shop. They also played in a band where Ellis was responsible for the bass parts.
On Ellis's cap there is an emblem with a tow truck — just like on the scrap metal disposal poster, which can be found during the passage of the "Parish" campaign.
Ellis's phrase "Class! Just like in the second Team Fortress!" in the "Transition" campaign, he makes it clear that he played Team Fortress 2, another Valve game. Louis also broke the fourth wall at the time, comparing what was happening with Counter-Strike.
After meeting Zoey in the "Transition" campaign, Ellis fell head over heels in love with her, which also served as a reason for ridicule from Nick.
Ellis fell in love with Zoey so much that he offered Nick to lend him his suit for the wedding.
In the trailer of the game, in the episode with the elevator (the "Extinct Center" campaign), Ellis hits with the butt of a special police officer, which is not found in this campaign.
In the videos of the game, only Ellis is attacked by special infected (Jockey, spitter, bully, smoker).
During the video, Ellis carries a variety of different weapons with him: a military sniper rifle, a grenade launcher, a combat shotgun and an automatic shotgun.
Ellis lost almost all of his weapons: a military sniper rifle was taken away by an ordinary infected person, he dropped an auto-shotgun when he was attacked by a jockey, a combat shotgun fell out when attacked by a thug.
The only melee weapon Ellis used during the video was a tire iron.
The video showed how he, along with the rest of the survivors, made his way to the roof, killing zombies, but when the game starts and he meets them, he behaves as if he had never seen them before.
The official Valve blog conducted a poll about the favorite characters of Left 4 Dead 2 for Xbox 360 and PC, where Ellis took first place among Xbox 360 players (43% of the votes). While for PC, he shared the first place with Nick, receiving 33% of the votes.
When the jukebox is turned on, Ellis can say: "Hee-ee-ee" (English Aaay), which is a reference to the phrase of the character Fonzie from the popular American sitcom "Happy Days".
In the Transition campaign, Ellis calls Jimmy Gibbs Jr.'s race car "Jimmy Gibbs" (or "Jimmy Gibbs Jr."), personifying the car with the racer.
Sometimes, during the arrival of the rescue vehicle, Ellis can say, "Let's get into Jimmy Gibbs Jr.!", even if the action does not take place in the "Extinct Center" or "Transition" campaigns.
Ellis is the only survivor who mentions a "black and white screen" (a condition in which if the health drops below one, the character will die). He will say, "Such pain is blurring my eyes," reminding the other survivors that he is on the verge of death.
Sometimes Nick calls Ellis a "Jumpsuit." He shouts the same name when he sees a Bully. However, if you look into the texture files of the game and examine them, it turns out that Ellis is wearing a one—piece jumpsuit for mechanic work - not like a special infected one.
In the English version of the game, Ellis, after seeing Rochelle kill a special infected, can say: "Well, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Annie Oakley" (in the Russian localization — "Yes, you are a born sniper!"). Annie Oakley is a famous American female shooter.
The cap appeared in a cameo on the "Victims" teaser page. In honor of the release of the new campaign, this cap has become available in the game Team Fortress 2. Along with the frying pan, it is given to everyone who has a copy of the game Left 4 Dead 2.
Early concept art shows that Ellis wore a green cap with the John Deere logo, but it was soon removed - probably for licensing reasons.
Until August 26, 2011, there was a bug that caused Coach and Ellis to not talk to Nick after his rebirth, whether through a defibrillator or through the rescue booths.
Of the entire group of survivors, Ellis has some knowledge of Japanese culture. He often talks about ninjas and declares that if someone finds shurikens or nunchucks, be sure to let him know. As mentioned earlier, Ellis may have once taken karate lessons, although he does not apply his acquired skills anywhere in the game.
