How To Fix Game Not Starting or Stuck at Splash Screen
By DisturbedMan
Ah, there you are; coming here years later to this masterpiece of game. Whether you want to complete the story or replay, or even play the game for the first time, there is one issue: the game won't launch!
There is the cruel reality of modern hardware: multi-core and multi-threaded CPUs. The issue lies in the fact that some older games, such as this one, do not support these CPU types.
This guide will help you solve the issue without disabling ANY processor.

The Problem
Far Cry 3 is an old game. As such, it is not optimised or made to work for most modern CPUs, which have multi-core and threads.
This can lead to games crashing randomly or not launching at all.
The Solution
The normal solution is... an extreme one: reducing the processor count.
This will affect your entire PC and all applications. It is not good and not efficient.

However, there is a better way of doing this without fu*king your machine.

1)Tools
- We just need to download and install Windows ADK[learn.microsoft.com] (pick the version compatible with your OS.)
- During installation, you will be prompted to pick the applications you want to install. Select "Compatiblity Administrator" ONLY.
And that's it!

2)Steps
Now, follow the steps below:
  1. Run "Compatiblity Administrator (32-bit)" as Admin since FC3 is a 32-bit app.

  2. Now, select "New Databse" under Custom Databases.

  3. Then, right click the database menu > Create New > Application Fix.
  4. Provide the full path to either farcry3.exe or farcry3_d3d11.exe. Note: If you want to play with the other exe, you need to repeat the process. Same applies for the Map Editor

  5. Skip the compatibility mode options.
  6. In compatibility fixes select "ProcessorCountLieForHybridCPU". Then click "parameter" and
in the command line type "16" then press ok. Select "ProcessorCountLie" and repeat the same too.

  7. Save the database from the Database menu and give it a name.
  8. Finally, select File > Install.

And there you have it. This will allow you to launch the game with no issue.
Closing Thoughts
I hope this guide will help you fix the game not launching.

I got it to work now!
All I had to do was to put 8 into the "command line" instead of 16 and boom, the game finally starts.

Thank you very much, this is very useful, there are many Chinese players who are also plagued by this problem, can I translate your guide into Chinese and post it on the Chinese forum to help people solve this problem?

The end of the guide is badly written
after the number 5. it should go like this

On the next screen scroll down and tick and highlight "processorcountlie" then click "parameter"
In the command line type "16" then press ok

Then tick and highlight "processorcountlieforhybridCPU" and click "parameter"
In the command line type "16" then press ok
Click "auto-generate"

Then click finish
Back on the main screen click the "save" button in the toolbar (I save it to the game directory)
Then right click your "Game fix" database and click "install"

The game should now launch.

please edit this guide tfor any future players that want to play FC3 on moderns CPUs
