Intent of This Guide
As of 30 December 2024, the game-killing crash-to-desktop bug HAS BEEN FIXED by a recent hotfix patch update. Which means it's possible to finish the game without getting frustrated and throwing my PC out the window now!! Hooray!!

This first guide takes you from the start of a new game, through the end of your first Empire (yellow) faction story arc, and starts you on a second one also for the Empire though you'll end up finishing that one for a different faction in the "part two" guide that I wrote.

This guide is meant to introduce new players to the Noob universe. It is a full walkthrough of your journey through the first story arc, from the start of the game until you land in the city of Dunkil on "The Continent of No Return" (which, by the way, you can eventually return from). You should be somewhere between level 55 and 70 by the end of this guide. Personally I found myself at level 66 when I stopped in Dunkil, just to give you an idea of the general progress you'll make.

This guide DOES NOT cover the mid-game or end-game content. I haven't played it yet myself, so how can I be expected to write about it? I'm also NOT including any lists of weapon and armor stats, item descriptions, treasure locations, or crafting recipes because you can easily handle all of that on your own in-game without even needing to take notes on it. In terms of equipment, higher-level gear is just flat out BETTER than lower-level gear. In terms of treasure items, the important ones are all in obvious treasure chests. There are a LOT of hidden items, too, of course but they are mostly just money and minor HP/MP potions. And you can see a list of your unlocked recipes just by opening the "Jobs" tab in your in-game menu screen.

So... consider this to be a BEGINNER'S guide to the game, plus a walkthrough of the first story arc. I have also made a second guide that picks up right where this one leaves off, to offer a walkthrough with a more advanced feel to it. But this one here only covers the first third of the game.

If you are already in the city of Dunkil on The Continent of No Return, then you can switch to part 2 of my guide by clicking here.
Introduction
I'm writing this in October of 2024, the game is in FULL RELEASE and has been for 2 years, so I don't foresee any further content updates or major patches. Fair warning: the US English version of the game uses DIFFERENT NAMES for items, NPCs, and locations than every other language pack for this game. I am writing this based on the US English version since that's the one I'm playing. If you are playing a different language pack, just be aware the names of practically everything will be different, and not even direct translations from the original French either.

Hi, I'm Dave. I'm NOT a programmer or game developer, just a guy who plays games sometimes. And this game does a pretty good job of teaching you how to play on its own. So I'm not going to get super technical with this. I won't be making any complicated data tables or charts because that's a lot of work and I feel like they're not necessary this time.

It's a fun little game, in my opinion perhaps the perfect example of what a JRPG should be. There are a few mechanics that the game doesn't explain very well, so I'll help you out with those. And while I'm not doing a step-by-step quest guide or listing all the skills or treasure locations or anything like that, I will be giving you some advice on how to make good use of what the game offers and how to avoid getting lost on your journey.

I highly recommend playing with a gamepad. XBox controller, PS controller, or similar. Keyboard controls are functional, but they feel a bit clunky.

This is a SINGLE PLAYER JRPG. There is no co-op, no PVP, no multiplayer at all. Which is funny because the game's plot revolves around an MMO. A lot of the things referenced in this game are poking fun at REAL LIFE MMO games. So this game doesn't take itself too seriously, but the jokes are never so cheesy that it becomes lame.

You start out as a duo, but eventually you'll recruit two more people to be on your team. You're friends IRL, and you're playing together on an MMO game. Trying to reach level 100 before the next big update is released for the game, so that you can go pro with it. That's the basic story. You will have sections where you're wandering around a modern and realistic city "IRL" from time to time, but most of the action takes place within the MMO world. There are FIVE factions in the MMO world. Three of them are for players, one is for NPCs (a merchant's faction that acts a bit like a referee between the other three factions), and then the game's administrators have their own special faction with god-like admin powers in case they have to ban a cheater or something like that. When your two main characters start the game, they choose to join the same faction as their heroes, a guild of nerds who put in thousands of hours of grinding to climb to the top of the player rankings eventually, despite starting out with zero talent for gaming. That guild was called "The Noob Guild." And you want to be just like them someday.
Basic Game Mechanics
When you first start out, only a few of the game's features will be available; you'll unlock more as you go. So most of these will be locked until you reach a certain point in the main story, or meet a certain side character, or whatever the unlock trigger may be. Follow along with the next few chapters to see how to unlock the various things that you can't access in the beginning.

You can SAVE YOUR GAME and fully heal at any SAVE POINT. SOMETIMES you can also save your game from the options menu without a save point nearby, but that choice is not always available.

If you die in the MMO world, it is GAME OVER and you need to reload a previous save, except for a couple of fights where you are scripted to lose so you will respawn as a ghost in the graveyard instead.

This game has local area maps, and an overworld map. The "map" only functions on the world map, while area maps have a small compass that shows you zone exits, doors, and enemy locations if you get close enough to them.

On area maps, you can run around and SEE the enemies on screen. Some of them are positioned in a way that you can avoid them by simply walking around them when they're looking the other way. Some will chase you. And some stand directly in your path so you have to fight them. Battle starts if you touch an enemy. You can also find secret stashes, most of which contain healing potions or small amounts of money, buried under tree stumps or in crates. You'll know you found something because an icon pops up over your head to hit the action button to check it. After you unlock your jobs, you will also be able to mine for ore, harvest herbs, and go fishing at certain places. These all respawn after roughly 45 seconds. Enemies only respawn if you leave the area and come back. Hidden treasures and loot stashes never respawn.

The world map functions in a similar way. You can see the enemies and choose whether or not to fight them. You can pickup herbs, ores, hidden treasures, and go fishing. The main difference is the world map has certain points where you can enter towns, caves, dungeons, etc. and you can ride mounts on the world map but not in area zones.

Each area has its own specific list of fish that you can catch there. And each time you leave and come back to the area you will find the same monsters in the same locations.

  • Fishing: can be performed at the riverbank, seaside, lakes, or puddles where you see a circle of ripples. Higher levels in fishing let you catch different fish.
  • Mining: can be done at visible ore deposits. If it's a plain gray lump of rock, you already got that ore and need to wait a minute for it to respawn before mining again. Different types of ore require higher levels in the mining skill.
  • Herbism: Different types of herbs require higher levels in this skill. It lets you gather herbs from visible herb patches growing in the ground. Look for weeds that sparkle.
  • Cooking: Uses herbs and some other ingredients to make food. Food can restore your HP, but different foods might have other benefits, too. Check the item descriptions in your inventory menu to see what they do. Higher levels in cooking skill unlock new recipes for you. You can only cook at cookpots! The first one you find will be in the Spindlegrist Village, next to the Chris P. Creme shop where you got your mushroom soup for a quest.
  • Inventing: This uses ores and other materials to build your own items. Typical examples are traps and serums. You can only craft items at an inventing table, your first one is found just inside the main entrance of Portburgh.
  • Beastmaster: There are two types of pets, and three types of mounts. Each new pet you acquire raises your beastmaster skill level, which allows you to BUY certain pets from stables. One type of pet is acquired simply by catching it on the map; the other you have to fight it first. Nearly ANY non-human monster that you fight in battle can be captured as a pet. There is a special item that acts like a pokeball. Buy them (500-coins each) or find them in treasure chests.
  • Then during a battle, at full health the monster has a 10% chance to have a successful capture; at 1 HP it has 35% chance. Even if you fail, the pokeball item will be used up. So it makes sense to do a bit of damage to the monster before you throw the pokeball. Pets have NO PURPOSE, they just follow you around everywhere you go. Mounts are pets that can be ridden on the world map; some can travel only by land, some can fly, and some can swim... you need to reach a certain level to purchase the required skill for each type of mount before you can use them.

Battle is TURN-BASED. At the top of your screen it shows you the turn order. Certain skills and spells can alter a character's SPEED which will change their position in the order for their NEXT turn.
On your turn, you have some options. Each character uses a different set of skills to fight. And their skills can be changed in the menu AT ANY TIME, FOR NO COST. So if you don't want your elementalist to serve as a healer, change his skill set from water to air or fire or something else. Feel free to experiment with different skill builds on each character, and do so EARLY (around level 10 - 15) to get a good understanding of what's available to you. This will go a long way to add more enjoyment for you playing the game.

Every 10th level, your XP gets LOCKED. You keep earning XP but it goes into a different pool that I call the "OP XP", that gives you skill points and items instead of leveling up. To unlock your XP, you need to visit THE TOWER and beat the dungeon on the next floor. Next time you lock your XP, the OP XP starts again at the same place it left off last time.

Technically, every character in this game except your main team of four is an NPC. But since this game is PRETENDING to be a live MMORPG, it has its own internal NPCs that are part of the MMO system, these people have NO ICON over their head (unless they're giving you a quest then it's the "?" or "!" icon). Players in the EMPIRE faction have YELLOW icons. Players in the COALITION faction have RED icons. Players in the OTHER faction (I forgot the name of it) have GREEN icons. ADMINS have BLUE icons. Your team has icons, too, so if you ever forget which faction you're in you can tell by the color of the little triangle above your head. Most of the players can be met "IRL" in the city where your party members live, too.
Class Builds
I'm not going to tell you exactly how to build your class with your available skills and gear. But I will give you some general advice, which will save you some time on the rerolls by avoiding certain things that just don't work.

Fortunately, it is FREE to reroll your skills in this game, so you can change your skill setup before EVERY fight if you really wanted to. I don't recommend that, but I do recommend having one setup for mobs you fight on the world map or in local maps or in dungeons... and a second setup that you equip for boss fights. This isn't exactly "necessary" but just know that you CAN be flexible like that if you want to.

So, here we go...
Character Job Classes

Baster
He has THREE individual skill trees that can all be selected SIMULTANEOUSLY. However, to open the next level down a tree, you need to have TEN points invested in that same tree above that level. Investing 30 points in the left-hand tree does NOT open any levels in the center or right-hand trees. I highly recommend you pump up his Minefield skill, which hits ALL enemies at once. He operates on a purple "tech" bar. Get this to 100 to unlock his special attack. You will regain a bit of tech points each turn.

Drek
You have two options for him. First is a class that is highly dependent on using TAUNT tactics. Personally I hated that one. So I went with the other one, which is built around axe attacks and bleed damage. In both cases, he operates on RAGE. It returns to zero after every fight, and you gain more rage by making "normal" attacks or by being attacked. Even if you MISS, or if the enemy misses you, you still get rage for the attempt. Then you can use his Rage skills to do more damage, to attack all enemies, to inflict more bleed, or whatever. Or save up his rage to use his special attack.

Logs
Logs is an elemental bender. He has several options. Feel free to try out all of them. Water makes him a healer/buffer type. Fire deals a lot of heavy single-target attacks and applies a lot of BURN status effects. My favorite though, is Air. His speed goes through the roof, and he can learn a regular attack that his TWICE plus a magic spell that whoops all the enemies for massive damage, at the cost of a few MP. He regains a few MP each turn, but keep an eye on it anyway. If you want to spend 100 MP you can use his special attack, which drops a multi-elemental magic ball on an enemy for HUGE damage.

May
May has two options. Both are equally useful. One is to set her up as a healer, the other sets her up to do a lot of damage - including an AOE attack that hits all the enemies. This only applies to her normal magic though; she also has a deck of magical CARDS that you can customize to your liking, focus on damage, or dealing status effects, or healing and shielding your friends - or take a few cards of all types for a mixed deck.

What I like to do, personally, is focus mostly on Baster's right-hand skill tree, plus a bit of shield damage and armor bonus from the left-hand side... then set Drek as a damage-dealer because I don't care about taunts... then Logs is a healer until I hit level 20 then I change him to an air-bender and his AOE attack flattens all my enemies for the rest of the game... and May I will flip back and forth between healer and magic damage as needed, but I typically keep a balanced deck of cards so I'm always prepared for anything. But that's just my group. You should experiment a bit, try out your own style. Maybe you'll like Logs's fire-bender more?
Status Effects
Taunt
The affected person MUST attack the one who taunted them. This is USELESS in my opinion, even though it works on most enemies and bosses, because it's more important to spend your turn doing more damage (or healing/buffing) than it is to force your enemy to look at you. Because most enemies with enough HP and high enough damage that you would WANT to taunt them, will then use AOE attacks to wipe out May & Logs anyway, since an AOE attack still counts as attacking the person who used the Taunt skill (Baster or Drek). So yes, it works and you can taunt most enemies, but then they will hit your ENTIRE party anyway so it's not worth wasting a turn for this.

Stun
I've only been able to stun ONE enemy in this game. Either they're immune, or the chance to stun is just too low. So don't put points into stun unless you need the skill that comes after it in the chain. What it's SUPPOSED to do (and what it does to you if you get hit by it) is makes the affected person SKIP A TURN or two.

Burn
Burn is nice, damage is great in the early game, but once you reach Fortuga the enemies have so much HP that burn damage doesn't really matter anymore.

Bleed
In early game, bleed DOT is decent. Once you reach Fortuga though the enemies have so much HP that bleed damage won't matter much. However, some of Drek's rage skills do extra things if the enemy already has bleed on them. So still somewhat useful. Just remember that bleed only works on enemies that have blood (or sap).

Blind
Good alternative to stun, makes enemies miss almost every attack. However, most boss fights and a good number of mob monsters are IMMUNE to blind.

Silence
Great against spellcasters, unless they're immune to it. I chose not to mess with silence because it's usually easier to just hit them very very hard until they die, rather than try to slow them down with a status effect that almost never works.

Poison
Most bosses are immune. Otherwise, it's a decent DOT but by the time you unlock the ability to use it the enemies' HP is so high that this damage doesn't help much anymore.

Shield
Does what it says on the box. Defends you against physical damage. Quite nice, actually.

Regen
Restores some HP a little bit at a time. Pretty cool.

Armor
Defends agaisnt damage. I prefer shield, but this also does the job.

Magic Resist
Defends against magical damage. Low-power so not as useful as Shield, but still nice to have.

Speed
Faster = take action sooner in combat. Slower = you get bumped down the turn order. Simple. Effective. But everyone still gets ONE turn per round.

Weakness
Deal less (physical) damage. ALL bosses and about 1/3 of the mob monsters are immune. So I try to avoid dumping points into this.

Mark
Take more damage from all attacks. Seems like a 20% damage increase. Nothing too special, but most mobs and even a few bosses can be hit with mark.

Crit
Increased chance of getting a critical hit when the affected person makes an attack. Crits are THE BOMB, so if you get a higher chance to do that then it's a good thing.

Okay, I think I got them all. Did I forget any?
Crafting Resource Locations
NOTE: since this guide only takes you through the beginning of the game, many of these will still be out of your reach for now.

Herbs & Ores
  • Cloud Mane: enter the Guild Hall area, there are four near the front door and four around the corner where you can see the Noob Guild statues.
  • Chivaltuft: Spindlegrist Forest
  • Copper & Silver: enter the Tower area, there are three of each along the path from the exit to the front door.
  • Copper & Gold: Vulca
  • Verveina: On the world map, start at the Guild Hall and walk Northwest, you'll see three of them in a line.
  • Gold & Rosapphyre: inside the Lassierra Mine or in the Empire's fort nearby
  • Titanium & Platinum: exterior of the Lassierra Mine or in the Empire's fort nearby, Etermine Mountains, Minebrok Valley
  • Lilac Wort: world map outside Centralia (the Empire's domed capital city), there are only 2 or 3 in the whole area though... better spot is the Syrian Plains (Order territory)
  • Cristalys Foam: Ashentak Marsh, on the Syrian continent (Order territory), Minebrok Valley
  • Lilium Borealis: exterior of the "black mage" hideout behind the Lasierra Mine, Vulca
  • Crimson Wort: cemetery behind Spindlegrist Village
  • Arturius Charmbloom: Arturis (the zone with the giant spiders)
  • Bellis Magma: Eternite Mountains south of Bloodcyrdle
  • Peralipitosporum: Polaris, or Tenebris
  • Ethernite: Arturis (the zone with the giant spiders)
  • Manarite: Torith city
  • Cyclopean Carnation: Alchemists' front yard, west of Parow city
  • Ardent Vulcarum: exclusive to Burgeonbud
  • The Ardent Vulcarum and Cyclopean Carnation both have only one purpose: sell for 1000 coins each.
  • DO NOT sell the ethernite bars, it's more profitable to sell the ingredients: 2 manarite + 2 ethernite ore = 1800 coins, while 1 ethernite bar = only 1250 coins.

Fish
Check the "Fishing" page on the "Jobs" tab in your in-game menu, it will show you what fish have been caught at every location you've visited so far. Fish you haven't caught yet will be marked as "???". Here are a couple of beginner fishing holes to get you started:
Fishing group A: Spindlegrist Forest
Fishing group B: Portburgh beach & docks
Fishing group C: one single fishing spot at the back end of Lasierra Mine, in the lava river
Fishing group D: the sea on the world map, along the ocean coast anywhere on the continent.
There are several fishing spots around this part of the world map, but they are VERY far apart.

Burgeonbud
You can find almost any fish (below fishing level 80) in the waters here. Most of the herbs will be randomized each time they respawn. And occasionally you'll find a loot chest - if you open it to take the loot, then fight an enemy, the chest will refill with a different randomized loot item. If you leave the area, the chest will vanish.

Enemy Drops
  • Telluric Current: elementals & golems, Etermine Mountains shop
  • Effervescent Foam: Nemo (fish) monsters, Fortuga south dock shop
  • Reptile Scale: krokoken & dragonnet monsters, Fortuga south dock shop
  • Sticky Sap: Carnablooms, shop in the center of Syrial Greenwood
  • Fresh meat: Mammal monsters, Shop in the center of Syrial Greenwood
  • Fur Tuft: Furry Monsters, not for sale
  • Robust Claw: Hobtrolls & goblins, not for sale

Shops
ALL the herb, ore, potion, and fish shops in the game (with a few exceptions in early game & lone shops that don't appear in every town) are THE SAME. They have the same items in stock no matter which town you visit. HOWEVER, that list will change a bit, adding new items as you progress through the main story quests. The pet stores, magic card shops, armor shops, and weapon shops are UNIQUE to each town, they all sell something different. So when you first arrive at a new town, check the shops to see what's new. Then after you finish the quests for that town or gain 10 levels, check again to see if anything changed before you move on to the next place.

I have written to the developers and left a note regarding this on their official bug report website. This was their reply:

"Thank you for your message,
The teams are aware of this issue and are currently working on a patch to resolve the crash problems. No date has been given for the release of this patch, but we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Best regards,

EDIT: The December 2024 update patch has FIXED THESE CRASHES!!
Thank you, Microids!!
But still, saving often is just good advice... in case something bad happens.
1 - Journey to Spindlegrist Village
You start out IRL. Two best friends just hanging out at the local cafe, talking about e-sports. Then someone tells them that the world's most popular MMORPG will be included in an e-sports tournament once the next big update patch is released for it. So of course they decide to buy the game and get to max level before the update is dropped.
Watch some cut-scenes. Talk to everyone you meet. Go home and click on your computer desk to play the MMO. And... poof you're in the game. This is NOT an isekai, nor is it "Sword Art Online" style, you can log out and come home later. But the game won't let you come back to IRL for a while, you need to advance the story to a certain point first. So don't go looking for the "Logout" button just yet, okay.

The MMO world functions just like your typical MMORPG, despite the tact that this game is a single-player MMO simulation. They have characters that are supposed to be "players" and others that are "NPC's." You'll meet both types in just a moment. And you start out with NO JOB SKILLS, so you won't be able to gather herbs, go fishing, tame pets, or mine for ore until you get farther into the story. For now, you're a newb or n00b or whatever the kids are calling new players these days. You got no skillz, bro. So all you can do is walk around, talk to people, fight monsters, and look for hidden treasure items as you explore. It's going to be a while until you unlock more features, but oh yes there will be more to do later.

For now, walk down the path and talk to the two guards right there. They actually give you a SIDE QUEST to capture a sneaky sneaky bandit that's been terrorizing the area. Talk to everyone in the area. Eventually you'll run into a pair of NPC's who are rather rude to you, these guys start the MAIN QUEST. They want you to collect a bunch of mushrooms from the forest. These mushrooms ONLY appear while this quest is active, and they have no use other than finishing the quest. So just grab 8 of them as you run through the woods towards the village, and you'll be done. The monsters in this forest don't use any weird tricks, so your tactics should be: attack, attack, attack, until they die. Focus on using skills that do damage. You'll also find some new equipment in treasure chests in the woods! Don't be shy, try it on. Equipment is the main way to increase your stats in this game. Not hitting hard enough? Get a better gun. Or a better helmet. You DO NOT need to worry about grinding for XP right now, so just hunt for hidden items and get to the village. Items are hiding in tree trunks usually. But there are some other places you might find them. The only indicator that there is a hidden item nearby is an icon pops up over your head when you get close enough to touch it. There is no benefit to leaving things here until later, so take anything that isn't nailed down. Keep heading east, the path is pretty linear. There is a side path going south a short distance, where you will see a hooded figure talking to himself. That is the bandit for your side quest. IF you are level 5 or higher, you can defeat him. After the fight, the guards will come to take him to jail and reward you. But you can also leave him here and come back for him later if you don't want to bother with him yet. You CANNOT capture the bandit as a pet, so you don't need to wait until you unlock the Beastmaster job. So just keep going east...

Until you hit a cut-scene where a bunch of your faction members run past you, screaming. A PKer is hot on their trail!! He is LEVEL 100 and enjoys bullying weaker players. But you stand there with a "deer in the headlights" look of surprise on your face, and he wipes the floor with you. You'll respawn in the cemetary, as a ghost. Talk to the lady nearby to get your body back. Now run around the cemetary and check a bunch of the graves and such, there's some nice loot just lying around here. When you're done, go through the little gate in the eastern fence and then go south to reach Spindlegrist Village. This will be your "hometown" for a little while.

Things of interest in town: weapon & armor merchants, item merchant, general store, side-quest board, cooking station, and the two guys who asked you to get their mushrooms are here temporarily, too. Go find them, they'll tell you to COOK the mushrooms first. In the center of town is Chris P. Creme, world-famous chef. He'll tell you about the Chef job, and then you'll meet your third party member who just happens to already have the cooking job skills required. Use the cookpot nearby to turn those mushrooms into soup. Bring the soup back to the two rude gentlemen and you'll be done with this quest.

Don't buy anything from the weapon and armor shop here, you'll find enough in treasure chests for now so it's a waste of money. DO buy as many Monster Catchers as you can afford from the potion shop though. (These are what I call "Pokeballs".) Then in the middle of town, accept all the quests from the job board. Walk east from there, meet the pet trainer. He tells you to bring him a pet that you catch by yourself, and one of your team will learn the Beastmaster job. Yay. Now leave town to the EAST.

Work on your quests you just activated. The Rollahog enemy you need 5 of is the BIG BROWN ONE, the other similar ones don't count. There is another quest that asks for 10 red fish, you can't catch these until your Fishing skill is over 20 or so. And the pet you need is the little blue lizard walking around on his own near the middle of the area. Just run up to him and hit the "interact" button to catch him, and he's yours. From now on, you can change pets from the "Jobs" tab in the menu.
Speaking of pets... EVERY enemy in this area, as well as the areas to the west of the village (except the bandit), can be captured as a pet. At full health you only have 10% chance for the Pokeball to work, and those items are expensive so do some damage to the monsters first! If they are at critically low HP, they max out at 35% chance of capture. You can only capture ONE of each enemy type; if you try to use a Pokeball on another one after you already caught one, it will say "0%." The Pokeballs also don't work on players, human NPC's, mini-bosses, or area/quest bosses. But anything that says 10% - 35% and not 0% can be captured if you try hard enough; if you miss the first time just throw another Pokeball at it until you get it. Captured monsters DO NOT COUNT as defeated... so you get no XP for them and they don't count towards bounty hunter quests.
Stay in the area around the village for a while, grind to XP level 10 and NOW is the time to decide if you want to catch EVERY pet or just a couple of them. If you decide to catch them all, make sure you get one of each enemy type around the village. Then stock up on Pokeball items before you head further east.
PETS:
blue biffler
  • green worm
  • red flower
  • striped little boar
  • brown boar
  • pink piggy boar
  • black/white spotted boar

2 - N00b's First Dungeon
East of town you'll find a spooky passage that leads to a mini-boss fight and then a dungeon. This zone has a bunch of monsters you can capture as pets:
PETS (outside the dungeon):
spooky worm
goblin shield
goblin caster
goblin lobber
goblin brawler

There are a bunch of hidden treasures around this area. Also a few ore deposits for copper and silver, which you can't mine yet but you might want to come back later for these... although I can think of several better places to mine for ore. The monsters here are stronger than the ones you faced earlier, so make sure you come equipped with the strongest equipment available and remember to allocate your skill points, too!

HOWEVER, if you are trying to catch the monsters as pets, I personally found it useful to have ONE character decked out with fancy strong gear and an attack that hits ALL enemies... the rest were wearing their WEAKEST equipment so I can have them hit one or two times without killing the monster, to raise the capture chance. Once I have captured all the enemies outside of the dungeon... you'll see a save point. Put your STRONGEST gear and skills back on, and save your game NOW. Because standing outside of the gate nearby... is an NPC who tries to murder anyone who looks at him. He's pretty strong, too. Seriously, you might die the first time you fight him. But after you kill him, there is a switch to the east that opens the gate to the dungeon. Head on in...

YOU CAN NEVER COME BACK HERE.
This dungeon is a one-time event. So make sure you are well stocked up on Pokeballs before you enter, if you're trying to catch all the pets in the game. There are more monsters here to capture, so make sure you get them while you're here. You can leave a room and come back to it if you accidentally killed the enemy you wanted to catch and it will respawn... but once you defeat the boss this place will be permanently locked.
PETS (inside the dungeon):
Skeleton Warrior
Skeleton Mage
Skeleton Archer
Skeleton Shield

It's fairly simple to get through this place. When you reach the "end" you'll be thrown back, your party will be scattered and everyone will be in the wrong body LOL. Your group will have to fight solo for a while until they find each other again. Then you can fight the boss. After you kill him, head back to the village. Go south from the quest board, there is a new NPC there who will teach you the Cartographer job, which basically means you have access to the world map now. From now on, if you try to go back to the dungeon area you won't reach it. That eastern zone will just exit to the world map. You can also reach the world map by exiting the south side of the village. To reach the dungeon area again, you'll have to walk around the world map. Go north, then follow the tree-line to the west until you reach a spooky area with a bunch of dead trees. That's the dungeon you just finished. You can hang around outside of the dungeon, but you can't enter the dungeon gate past the save point anymore.

By now, you should be level 10 and your XP is locked. The game will tell you to go visit the tower to unlock your XP. The tower is NORTH of the village, then go east a bit past the Guild Hall, then turn north again. NOTE: If you reach an area of the world map where you see a bunch of huge birds flying around, RUN AWAY. Those birds do over 800 damage per attack and they will wipe out your entire party! You want to follow the trail of rollahogs and flower monsters to the northeast until you reach the tower. You're only conquering the first floor this time, it's pretty easy. There is only ONE monster you can tame here, but bring some Pokeballs for that if you want him. This particular enemy shows up on the world map a little bit later, so you have another chance to get it... but you can NEVER re-enter a floor of the tower after you've beaten it. So you only get one shot at the dungeon on each floor. Go do floor one now. It's VERY straightforward, should be easy enough for you.
PETS (tower 1):
black wolf

After that, you're told to go to the Guild Hall to form a guild. DO IT! The guild hall is on the world map, halfway back to the village from the tower. Talk to everyone there (as usual with this game) and take the elevator down. Talk to the receptionists to register your guild. Then there is another private elevator that will take you to your guild HQ. It's basically empty right now though, so just leave. On the way out, you'll get a cut-scene looking at the Noob Guild's statues. Then you all log out back to IRL.
3 - IRL, First Trip to the City
TIME OUT! I'm taking a moment to tell you something important. SAVE OFTEN!!! This game has a tendency to CRASH for NO APPARENT REASON. And I mean ALL THE DANG TIME!!! So use those save points every chance you get. They're free, after all.

Okay, TIME IN, game on!!

Well this is interesting. They built an entire "real world" city because they wanted this to be an "MMO sim RPG" not a fantasy RPG. Neat idea. You can wander around a small section of the city, and each section has a bus stop you can use to take a bus to another section of the city. You start out at home in the Suburbs. Run around talking to everyone. Get a feel for who your neighbors are, and the flavor of the city. Then take the bus. Officially your destination is Downtown. But feel free to explore the rest of the city first. Some of the interactions with the locals are kinda silly. Aaaannnyyywaaaayy... the place you want to go is called "AFK Cafe" in all the dialogue for some reason, even though the name painted on the window of the building is "Pikou Eyes Internet Cafe" not "AFK Cafe" but whatever. It's at the northeastern side of Downtown.

When you get there, your first quest target is the building to the west of it that says "Justice" on the sign out front. Cut scene, yay. Then go into the cafe next door. more cut scene, yay. And then you're back in the MMO world. Run back to the Spindlegrist Village, then go east from there to the plains, where you find your friend under attack by crazed hooded black wizards. After the fight, you're given your next quest - go to Portburgh to learn more about the black wizards.

You should be level 11 or 12 by now, and your XP will lock again when you hit 20. So there is room to grind for XP if you want to... but I say WAIT. Don't bother doing that yet. You'll be learning more jobs in Portburgh and then you'll be able to start mining for ore and gathering herbs while you grind for XP and money. So just hold off on the grind for now.

However, notice that you can REPEAT the side quests from the quest board as many times as you want, and it will reward you each time. That's 1800 gold for killing five rollahogs and another 1800 if you catch ten of those red fish. Keep that in mind for later... for now just accept those quests again before you leave the village.

Portburgh is to the south, across the bridge, then further southwest from there. It's the only other town you can reach right now so you can't miss it. There's no point to exploring this part of the world map right now since any other interesting places are currently blocked off... so just head straight for Portburgh.
4 - Being A Tourist in Portburgh
Portburgh is pretty big. The area has one large section for the main city, one medium section to the southeast for the port, and one small area to the southwest for a beach. It also has a lot of shops that sell stuff that is much better than what you found in that first village. But don't spend any money here yet, hold off on that for just a little longer. Soon, I promise. But not yet. For now, just run around being a tourist. There are several hidden items all around the city. So just explore the whole place FIRST. You'll probably stumble into some quest progress by accident, but that's fine. Just don't get on the ship to the next area yet.

ALL of the shops in Portburgh will gain new items in stock as you levelup your XP and your job skills.
The northeastrn section of town has a magic shop that sells cards! Score! There is also a trainer there who sells the skills needed to ride MOUNTS on the world map. You can unlock land-based mounts at level 20, swimming mounts at level 50, and flying mounts at level 80. Next door to the east is a building that houses the weapon and armor shops. And further east is a pet store!

That lady standing outside the magic shop will be important later, so remember she's here. Across the street south of the magic shop you'll find an Inventing Table and a Cooking Pot that you can use to make items, assuming you have those job skills. In the southeast corner of town you'll find the inn. Chris P. Creme sells a restorative meal there, and you'll have a couple of main quest events in here, too. Since you're here, you should talk to Moneybags in the back of the room to find out about that gem the Black Mages wanted. Moneybags sends you to look for a way to travel to Fortuga, advises you to start at the port. But don't go there yet.

The northwestern side of town has what looks like a post office, and a building that sells herbs on the first floor and jewelry upstairs. Feel free to come back here later, when you have a ton of money, if you want some new accessories for your team. And that's all for the main part of town, other than a bunch of hidden HP potions, MP potions, money, etc. So go to the southwest exit from town first, heading for the beach. There are a couple of hidden items here, too. But the real reason to be here is for those fishing spots. You can hang out here and catch some fish now if you want to, but I just wanted you to see it so you remember it's here later. Head east from here, up a little ramp.

Now you're in the Port. Feel free to explore some more. There are a few more hidden items to find, On the upper level, you'll find a guy with a side quest for you, a potion shop, and a store that sells crafting items like ores. On the "mezzanine" level you'll find a save point and a player with a quest for you. On the lower level you'll find a fishmonger and the main dock.

As you approach the main dock, you'll run into one of your heroes from the Noob Guild, who is nice enough to pose for a selfie with you. After that, you decide which job skills you want to use. The party splits up temporarily to go find master trainers to teach you the jobs. For herbalist, your boy goes off on his own and you don't need to follow him. For mining and inventing, you lead the rest of the group back up to the north end of town. Remember that weird lady standing in front of the magic shop? Find her and agree to be her apprentice. YAY, you're an Inventor now. Head east, there's a man standing next to the armor/weapon shop. Talk to him to become a Miner, too. Okay, that's done, jobs are picked. Head back down to the pier now.

At the end of the pier is the sea captain you need to speak to. He agrees to take you to Fortuga, but only if you hire another warrior to escort you. Head back to the inn, where you found Moneybags. You'll have a little scene with a "mercenary" player there. They agree to help you... for 2500 coins. Done deal! But don't return to the pier just yet. We have work to do first! Leave town, back to the world map.
5 - Of Job Skills and Money
Now that we've unlocked all the jobs, we need to do some grinding to get them up to USEFUL levels. We also need more XP and a LOT MORE gold coins. With that in mind, I want to take a moment to tell you about the "best" places/ways to grind for these in the early game, as well as give you some target levels to shoot for before you go to Fortuga to continue the story. As you're farming for XP, gold, and job skills, don't think you have to focus on just ONE task at a time. Feel free to work on two or even three things at once.

CASH MONEY, BABY, CASH MONEY
You'll notice there are brown Rollaboars all over the world map, plus in the areas just east and west from the village. Keep spamming the side quest to kill five of them for 1800 gold coins each time you complete it, then accept the quest from the board again. This can be done while you're farming for your job skills, too. The "easiest" way is to do the area east of the village which has 2 rollaboars, then do the area west of the village which has 3 rollaboars. Feel free to skip all the other enemies there if you can, since they're less important. You will want roughly 50,000 coins to spend before you get on the ship.

XP FOR THE LEVELUPS
You'll get some of this for killing those rollaboars. You'll get even more if you clear the area of other monsters, too. So you can potentially reach level 20 without even really trying. And since all the enemies at this point in the game are very low level, there really is no "best place" to farm for XP yet. If you can get to level 20, that's all you need for now.

IF YOU GIVE A MAN A FISH...
There are THREE areas with different lists of fish available to catch. Since your list of fish you can catch depends on your fishing level, at first you can only catch the first fish on each area's list. But as your level goes up, you'll start catching other fish there sometimes.
  • World Map (Keos Ocean) - has four different fish for you to "unlock."
  • Portburgh - has three different fish for you to "unlock."
  • Spindleburgh Village - has four different fish for you to "unlock."
NOTE: Spindleburgh includes the village, the forest, the plains, and the area in front of the Tower.
The important fish you want is the red snickler for your side quest, since you can turn in 10 of them for 1800 gold coins. The red snickler fish is found in the areas covered by Spindleburgh Village.
The "best" place to go fishing prior to level 30 is at the Tower. Not inside the tower, but on the path in front of the entrance. There are two fishing holes that respawn with almost perfect timing if you just walk back and forth between them. Plus you can do some mining there at the same time. Try to get your fishing level to 30 for now.

HI HO, HI HO, IT'S OFF TO WORK WE GO!
For the time being, you want your mining level to reach 35. Until you hit level 20, the only ore you can mine is copper. At 20, you can start mining silver, too. It really doesn't matter where you get these from, they show up all over the place. But the "best" place to farm for it in the early game is in front of the Tower. There are three copper deposits and three silver deposits there. All you have to do is run back and forth from the zone entrance to the tower door, mining all the veins you see with each lap. This is nice because there are no monsters here so you won't be interrupted, and there are also two fishing holes here so you can level up your fishing at the same time (and also catch some red snickler fish for that side quest).

OOOHH, PRETTY FLOWERS!
At first you only have access to one kind of herb. So go to the Guild Hall. Turn left off the path, walk all the way up to where the statues can be seen in the distance. We'll start our farming lap here. This place has EIGHT herbs you can farm each lap, even at herbalist level 1. Four in this area with teh statues, and four more on the path leading to the front door of the guild hall. So just run laps here until your herbalism reaches level 10. At this point, you gain access to two more herbs, so it's best to heaad to Spindleburgh forest. Not the area where you first logged into the game, but the area where you fought the bandid for that side quest. Clear out all the enemies and just run laps around the area. You should keep an eye out for the sparkling weeds - there are two different types and they will look different from each other. There are also a few fishing spots here if you need more red snickler fish. You want to get your herbalist skill up to level 30.

COOKING & INVENTING
The ONLY place to do these activities right now is at the work stations just south of the main entrance in Portburgh. You should have just gathered A TON of materials from all that job skill grinding. So you could go ahead and make some traps and foods now if you want to. As you level up these skills, you unlock new crafting recipes. However, at this point in the game these two skills aren't very important yet so don't feel obligated to spend a lot of time on them right this minute.

TOWER & OP XP
You should have had at least six OP XP levelups, to gain some extra skill points and some decent equipment for each of your characters. But at some point you'll need more than 7000 OP XP for your next OP gift. So don't worry too much about leveling your OP XP right now. However, since you should have hit level 20 by now, let's head to the tower to unlock your XP again. This time head to the second level. BRING SOME POKEBALLS. There, you'll have a miniboss fight, then youll fight a bat monster - which you can capture as a pet. You can exit the room and re-enter if you accidentally kill the bat. Or you can just wait until you find it on the world map later. After that, if you continue down the very linear path, you'll get into a huge boss fight. If you survive all that, you win and your XP is unlocked so you can continue leveling up again until you hit level 30. For now though, 22 or 23 is high enough.

In summary, here are some targets for you to hit before you get on the boat to Fortuga. These are NOT necessary, you can go higher or lower with the grinding if you want to. These are just the levels that I found to be particularly useful at this point in the game.

  • XP Level: 22+
  • FISHING Level: 30+
  • MINING Level: 35+
  • HERBALIST Level: 30+
  • COOKING Level: who cares
  • INVENTING Level: who cares
  • GOLD COINS: 50,000

Now that we have some job skills built up, and we have a bunch of money burning a hole in our wallet, let's go shopping!! Head back to Portburgh and buy whatever new stuff seems appropriate for your needs. Just make sure that when you're all done shopping you have at least 2500 gold left to pay the mercenary LOL.
6 - Voyage by Sea
When you've done as much grinding as you're comfortable with (don't worry there will be plenty of chances to do more grinding later) head back south.
If you WANT to hit level 30 before going to Fortuga, which I feel is totally overkill but hey you can do it if you want to, go EAST from Portburgh. Over there, you'll find a bunch of players from other factions. The ones standing still are AFK or something. But the ones who are walking around can be battled in PVP. Each fight with them puts your team against three opponents. They're harder than the monsters you've fought so far. But if you win, you get more than 1000 XP for your trouble, and a bunch of gold, too. The trick is you need to be above level 20 and have a bunch of level 20 equipment ready. And if you see the Godzilla monster stomping around... stay away from that guy if you're under level 25 because he will DESTROY you. But if you're over level 25, kick his butt! He's worth a few hundred XP if you kill him. And you can capture him as a pet, too... but he has a VERY LOW CHANCE at just 5 - 10% instead of the usual 10 - 35%. No exaggeration, I wasted 37 Pokeballs on this guy in ONE FIGHT before I finally caught him on number 38. And now I have my own little pet Godzilla. He's so cute, and his name is Digdug. It only cost me 19,000 gold coins to buy all those Pokeballs!! Past Digdug, you can find some bats flying around in case you missed the one in the Tower's second floor. Also, southwest from Digdug you'll find some black wolves in case you missed them in the Tower's first floor.

Pets (optional, come back later if you don't want to catch them right now):
Digdug the Godzilla
black bat
black wolf

Bonus info:
You can now buy your first "land mount" in Portburgh. It's a velociraptor!! You get to ride a DINOSAUR!! It walks faster than you normally do, and can bypass certain "rough terrain" obstacles like they don't even exist. Very cool. Once you have it, you need to equip it from the "Jobs" menu like any other pet. Then if you want to ride it you have to hit the "Ride Mount" button (it's X on the Xbox controller so probably square on playstation controller). It only works on the world map though. You can't ride it in town or in area maps like the forest near the village.

WARNING: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COME BACK TO THE MAINLAND FOR A PRETTY LONG TIME

WARNING: YOU WILL NEVER RETURN TO FORTUGA OR AQUALIS ONCE YOU'RE DONE HERE

When you're ready, head to the Portburgh port and talk to the ship captain again. You'll sail to Fortuga. While you're on the ship, you can talk to the crew and there are two chest you can open for a bit of loot. Then talk to Golgoga to start a battle with some goblin pirates. There are 20 waves to fight, all of them similar to the goblins you fought outside of your first dungeon. It's not hard. However, the game has a habit of glitching out during this fight. Dead goblins are SUPPOSED to disappear from the screen, but sometimes they don't vanish so new goblins spawn right on top of the dead ones. And then after you beat all 20 waves it gets STUCK and looks like you can't do anything except DEFEND YOURSELF or use skills that only affect allies. You can try to escape but it won't work. Just keep using DEFEND YOURSELF or whatever... eventually a leviathan will swoop in and eat the pirate ship. Then you end up on Fortuga Island, hooray!

Fortuga is small. But it has the same basic shops as Portburgh. There is a save point near your ship, north of that you'll find a cook pot and an inventing table. From there, feel free to explore a little. There are a few MP potions and some money hidden around the town. Lots of NPCs and a few players to meet. Shops. To the east is an exit. Your quest target is the tavern at the northeastern corner of town though. So head that way now.
7 - Black Mages at Fortuga
You can't take the ship back to Portburgh until you finish what you came here to do.

Before you forget, SAVE YOUR GAME NOW. Then head to the tavern in the northeastern corner of Fortuga town. Nobody there knows anything, but you'll meet someone interesting as you leave the tavern. Follow him...
Okay this is where it gets a little misleading though. The quest says you need to meet him at the outskirts of town, but that's a lie. Prepare yourself for a LONG trek, arm yourself with the best weapons, armor, and skills available. Then head east out of town. Go past the beach resort, keep going east. As you go through the beach, you'll find a bunch of herbs, some copper ore to mine, and a bunch of fishing spots. Remember that Fortuga uses the same list of fish as Portburgh, so there won't be any new fish here. But you can still work on your fishing skill level if you want to. There are also the usual hidden items (potions mostly) and a few hidden coins, too. There is only ONE monster you can catch, it's the Nemofins that looks like three clownfish swimming together. You can't keep pirates as pets, so don't throw pokeballs at pirates. (This isn't "Palworld" LOL!)

At the far eastern edge of the beach you'll FINALLY meet the person you're looking for. But it's too late! Fight the black mages, they're actually not that difficult now that you're level 25 or so. Sadly, they already stole his shiny rainbow rock, which it turns out is a shard from the Stone of Ages! You should remember that from your history lessons in the Tower. It's a pretty important magical rock.

Then there's a big "KABOOM" to the north. Head that way next. But save your game first, since they put a save point RIGHT HERE. My, how convenient! As you enter the jungle, be on the lookout for little stacks of LOGS. The wood, not the character LOL. You have a side quest that requests 12 of them. Also be on the lookout for side paths that lead to treasure, particularly if you didn't buy all the available weapons and armor yet. There will also be the usual batch of hidden items (potions and gold), and a few herbs, and some copper. Only one fishing spot (in the first area) though. Also, equip your WEAKEST equipment if you care about catching all the pets, because you'll find a dinosaur and a gorilla in the first area that you can catch. If you accidentally kill it, don't panic there will be more of them further in the jungle. Once you catch them both, equip your strongest gear again.

Eventually you come to a place with two bridges. Take the RIGHT SIDE first, there is some decent treasure over there before it reaches a dead end. Then come back and take the LEFT SIDE which leads deeper into the jungle. BUT BEFORE YOU CROSS THAT BRIDGE, if you want to make the boss fight "too easy" you can equip Drek with his WEAKEST GEAR and remove ALL his skills. Because he'll be corrupted by an evil mist in a moment and you'll have to fight him to continue. Don't worry though, a friend shows up and saves him before you kill him. Just remember to re-equip his best gear and his skills again afterwards. Continue deeper into the dungeon after the fight is over. Take out a few black mages, and you're done.

Back at the beach, you report the quest results to your new friend. And he wants you to escort him to an ancient underwater city next. Before you do that, there are a few other things you might want to do...

This first one is optional, but recommended. Go back to the Jungle, all the way to the end where you found the black mages. This place has two copper ore veins and four chivaltuft herbs. Hang around here to get your Herbalist and Miner jobs up to level 40, this will let you start mining the next herb and the next ore once you find some.

Then head back through the jungle, just do a few laps for the XP. Get up to level 30 while you're here. It shouldn't take very long if you started at level 22 when you first got here. And make sure you found all 12 logs for that side quest; it will be a little while before we can turn it in but it's best if you find them now since you're already in the jungle.

Then head back to Fortuga city and do some last-minute shopping if there's anything you need, like MORE POKEBALLS or some new magical cards. Also spend some time crafting items from all those herbs and copper that you found.

PETS:
triple-fish from the beach.
Orange dinosaur from the jungle.
Gorilla Swankykong from the jungle.

When you're ready, come back to that eastern corner of the beach, save your game (maybe use a new save slot this time), and talk to the old man again.
8 - Under the Sea
Everything's better, down where it's wetter, under the... ahem, sorry. Got carried away there.
Enter the skull cave. There is a save point. The ramp in the center leads down to a potion shop, so you can refill your Pokeballs or your status recovery items. Then take the northern path by the waterfall to go deeper in.

Oh look, goblins. But they're BLUE this time. You can either capture them here, or buy them for around 8000 gold coins each back in town, if you want them as pets. If you plan to catch them, you will have to equip some LOW LEVEL gear and maybe also un-equip all your skills because they don't have much HP and it would help you save money on Pokeballs if you do some damage to them first, to get the capture chance up to 22% or so (maybe don't worry about the full 35% cuz you might accidentally kill the goblin!) instead of using the default full-HP 10%.

On the lower level of this winding cliffside path, you'll meet someone... odd. And he brings a whole army of goblins with him! Kill all the goblins, and he'll agree to join your guild. Wow you first recruit! Cool beans! Further in, when you reach the true bottom of the grotto, you'll come across a blue dragon blocking your path. This is a krokokin, and you can catch it with a Pokeball but it has a reduced chance of capture (5% - 10%). After that, you'll see a man in the distance with a "!" over his head. Speaking to him initiates a side quest by starting a fight against Grizzlebeard the Cutlass, the dastardly pirate who wants him dead. Beat the pirates to win, job done. Continue down the path until you see another save point, and save your game here. The area to the right is a dead end but it has some loot if you want it.

Pets:
blue goblin shield
blue goblin brawler
blue goblin lobber
blue goblin caster
blue sea dragon (krakokin)

The area beyond the save point has four active teleports, each leading to a statue holding a rune tile. You have to use all the teleports and collect all the rune tiles. Then place them on the book that the statue in the center is holding, in the correct order. Once that's done, it's time for a boss fight against an Abyssal Kraken. You can't catch this one as a pet, but it does drop about 1000 gold coins when you kill it. After that, you can continue through the final teleport in the center of the room, on the little platform that you need to jump to reach. There is a save point on the other side, use it before moving on.

If you get stuck on the teleport tile puzzle, look at this SPOILER below:

Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast. In that order.
9 - Undersea City
This place is a teleport maze. The ones marked M and N on the map below don't go anywhere important, they just bounce back and forth between each other. So start with A, which drops you on the other A platform. Then walk up to B and use that... and so forth up to F. But feel free to collect any treasure or copper ore along the way, too. For teleports A - F, trying to return through any of them after using it will send you back to teleport Z at the beginning of the area... with one exception. Teleport B, if you step back into it after killing the blue sea-dragon monster in front of it, will send you to a SECRET area with a treasure and a quest item.

Aqualis Map 1
And if you didn't capture the fish or blue sea-dragon enemies as pets yet, there are a few of them in here, too.

In the next area, the left side path leads to some hidden loot. The right side, too. And on the right side there is a man with a side quest, he wants you to find a magical trident somewhere in Aqualis. Hint: you are currently in Aqualis, it is the lost underwater city.

Aqualis Map 2
To get the trident, you have to backtrack. Return through the teleport (labeled E on my map) to return to the beginning of the Aqualis area (teleport Z). Now walk the path again... teleport A, then B, now STOP. You should see a big blue sea-dragon in front of you. Kill that, then go back through teleport B. It takes you to a SECRET AREA with a treasure chest, a group of goblin monsters, and sitting on a rock... THE GOLDEN TRIDENT!! Grab it and take it back to Svengali. As a reward, he gives you a little money and joins your guild. You now have SEVEN guild members; you get your first HQ upgrade at 10.

To move forward from here, go north into the giant opening at the end of the central path. From there, the path is pretty straightforward and you'll face some more of the blue goblin monsters.

Aqualis Map 3
Your target is teleport F, but there are a couple of treasure chests and hidden items along the way. Also, make sure you level up to 30 before you step into teleport F. This isn't strictly necessary, but it will make things easier for the next couple of hours at least.

Once you go through that teleport, you'll have a cut scene where you learn the truth about the black mages. Then you'll be brought back to the Tower. They want you to clear floor 2, but since we did that early... when you approach the door you'll get another cut-scene instead. They tell you to head southeast, to the mountainous region, to continue your quest. BUT FIRST there are a few things you can do here.
Talk to the player called Trap, he starts a side quest that tells you there is a new pet that spawns on the world map south of the Tower.
Do some mining and fishing, get both job skills to level 40 or higher since you're here.
Go into the Tower. Save your game in a NEW SLOT now. Since you're already XP-locked at level 30, we're doing the third floor. You know, since we're already here and all.

Your job this time is to run around and catch all the cute gopher-like pets. There are monsters, too... and you can catch those to get them as permanent pets. There's a gray wolf, and a purple flower. And you can fight them with your level 20 gear equipped so you don't have to strip first to prevent accidentally killing them this time! The boss fight is a giant bird. It hits HARD, and you can't catch it as a pet. But you can take it down! Sadly, you don't get to keep any of the cute little gopher things that you found in here, but at least you unlocked your XP so you're good to levelup again until you hit 40.
10 - Intermission to do some chores
We're going to put the main quest on pause for a little while, get some new side quests and job levels done!
  • While you're at the tower, get your mining and your fishing to level 40. Also make sure you catch 10 of the Red Snikler fish for that quest back in the village, because that 1800 gold coin reward is nice. NOTE: once you hit level 40, copper no longer gives you XP.
  • When you leave, kill five Rollaboar monsters on your way back to the village, since you also have that side quest active (or at least you SHOULD have it active). Another easy 1800 coins right there.
  • Stop by the Guild Hall if your herbalist level is still below 40. Run around outside the hall, and the area to the left of it, grab more herbs until you are 40 or more in herbalist levels.
  • Go back to Spindlegrist Village. Turn in those two side quests for cash rewards.
  • Also notice there's a new side quest given by a villager NPC. Go talk to the guy with the blue "!" over his head. He'll tell you to talk to four other villagers, he specifically means the ones who have blue marks over their heads now. Once that's done, talk to the original guy again twice and he'll give you his hat. it's a quest item, you'll need it later but you can't actually equip it as a hat.
  • Take a walk up in front of the weapon shop. There's another guy there with a side quest for you. He wants five "goldberries." Leave the town to the west, go west again, and cross the wooden bridges there. All five goldberries are in this area, there are only five of them, and they only appear during this quest. They look like little green globes with brown vines grabbing them like fingers. Bring them back for a reward.
  • Remember to accept the side quests from the board again... easy money.
  • Replenish your stock of Pokeballs, which you probably used up when you were in the Aqualis and the Tower.
  • Leave town by the West exit. If you need any more job skill leveling, this is the place to do it for now. This area has 2 of the tier-3 herbs, 1 tier-2 herb, 1 tier-1 herb, 3 silver ore veins, and several fishing spots. Just run laps until your job skills are all over 40. NOTE: past level 40, the tier-1 items no longer give you XP when you gather them. There are also three of the rollaboar enemies here, so you can exit and re-enter to respawn them, kill them, and then turn in the side quest for hunting them. Rinse and repeat until you feel like you have enough job levels and money to keep you happy for the next few hours.
  • Save your game. And now you're done in this little village.
  • Go south, cross the river again, head to Portburgh. Finzel is on the top level of the docks, waiting for you to deliver those logs you found in the jungle. Go turn those in now.
  • If you didn't buy it earlier, head to the magic card shop and buy the "Land Mount" skill there. Then head to the pet shop up the road and buy the dinosaur mount (which you should have grabbed before heading for Fortuga). You'll need this to enter the next main quest area.
  • Before you leave town, use the Inventing Table and Cook Pot to raise those skills up to at least 30. With all the materials you've been farming, it's totally possible. NOTE: once you hit level 30, some of the lower-tier recipes STOP GIVING YOU XP.
  • If you have the materials for it, make at least one "Experimental Bomb" at the inventing table. You'll need to give it away for a side quest. If you can't make one right now, it's okay but you'll need to remember to do it later. The herbs you need for this one can't be farmed yet because they don't grow around here, but you may have acquired some as "OP XP" rewards or as loot from killing enemies or something like that.
  • Optional XP grinding and more mining XP... if you go east from Portburg, you can fight the players that are walking around. They give you around 1000 XP if you win the battle. Go back to town and leave again to respawn them if you need to. Further east, in the area past the Digdug, you'll find THREE veins for gold, which is why we wanted to level up our mining job to 40. You can mine some gold here if you have the time. But you won't need any for a little while so it's not really necessary yet.

Ok, so your setup should look like this now, for smooth sailing on your next few quests. But if you're a bit lower than this, it's not a big deal.
  • XP: 33 or more
  • Mining / Herbalist / Fishing: 40 or more
  • Cooking / Inventing: 30 or more
  • Pokeballs in stock: 50 or more
  • Money in your wallet: 20,000 or more
11 - Mountain Hiking
If you head east, then a bit south, you'll come to Lassierra Mine. It's on the south side of a mountain, with spiky grey rocks blocking the entrance. To reach it, you need to be riding a mounted monster (like your dinosaur). Also, note that when you are riding on a mount, monsters are less likely to chase you - but you can still get into a fight if you bump into them. You can also mine ore, pick up herbs, or go fishing without getting off of your mount! Pretty handy, right?

Save your game once you enter the area. That pink crystal is rosapphire, another reason why we wanted to get our mining job to level 40 before coming here. Feel free to grab a bunch of that stuff as you wander through the mines. There's also a bunch of gold scattered around the mine. And some higher-tier ore that you can't mine until your mining job level hits 60 or 80, but we're not worried about that stuff yet.

On the first screen... the western path is the exit back to the map. Take the UPPER pathway first, there's a cave with loot. Then the lower pathway to the east. Head into the cave on the lower path before you head farther east. There's a boss fight in there against a bunch of black mages. When they're dead, keep going east.

In the next area, take the upper pathway first. You'll have a cut scene to finish your side quest about the little brown pet. And you get a little brown gopher as a reward, PLUS you get another new member in your guild! When you've looted the whole top path, head down below. You'll meet Kevan, who takes your report back to the Empire faction's fort. Keep going and you'll watch a black mage head down an elevator deeper into the mine. To follow them, you'll have to go back to where you beat the black mages in the cave a couple of minutes ago and steal their cloaks.

Once you have their cloaks, DO NOT leave that cave yet. This place has no enemies to bother you, and it has a gold ore vein, and TWO rosapphire veins. Meaning this is the BEST place to levleup your mining job to 60. So you should get it to 60 before you leave this place. Then you can start mining those green rocks outside. YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO PAST 60 RIGHT NOW. But if you feel like getting some grind done now instead of waiting for a better place to do it later, by all means feel free to spam-mine those green titanium ores until your mining hits 80, then come back to THIS cave and get the two other ores that require level 80. Bounce between those and the green ores until you max out mining at 100. Now you never have to grind mining XP again, you'll only need to mine for ores to use in your inventions to level that up as needed later. For the purposes of this guide, however, I'll assume that you stopped at 60 though.

WARNING: once you go down that elevator, you won't be able to come back for a long time.

Aaaaanyway, when you're done mining for now, go back east, then down to the elevator. You'll put those black cloaks on and try to sneak into the black mage hideout. Cut scene, then you run away. If you go back to the previous room, you can find a bunch of hidden loot (all money). Then follow the path north to move forward, keeping an eye out for MORE hidden money. When the path splits, take the bridge on the left first to find some loot. Then go to the right. Before you get on the elevator, there is a spot where you can go fishing in the river. Hey, new fish list!

Back on the surface, you get attacked, then rescued! Backtrack a bit. Take the LEFT path first, there's loot up there (and a dead end). Be on the lookout for hidden piles of money in rocks, trees, crates, and barrels. Then take the right path, and speak with the two people there who have side quests for you. One wants an amulet, the other wants an experimental bomb that you can make if your invention skill gets high enough, both of them will take a long time to finish (unless you already have an experimental bomb in your backpack) so we'll worry about them later. When the path splits again (you'll see a pirate standing near some tents) go EAST first. But only go as far as the treasure chest. Beyond that you get blasted back by the phoenix's power. So go back and take the WEST path towards the Empire's fortress after that.

SAVE YOUR GAME. Go north, there are two doors you can't go through right now. But there are also a lot of ore veins you can mine, and PVP enemies that are worth a lot of XP. You'll probably hit level 40 here, and then you can work on your OP XP if you feel like it, too. Once you get the level-50 helmets for all four characters from your OP level, that's enough for now. Go south. Then follow the path to the east. There's a door in the wall on the west side fo the screen that you can go through; there is a bit of loot there. Back through the door... there are several ore veins around here, plus some PVP enemies. And a LOT of money hidden behind rocks, roots, and crates. Then go through the eastern door to reach the fortress and report to Kavan. After the cut scene, go back in there and open the treasure chest. Then if you're all done mining and killing PVP for XP, go save your game now.

Then you can head back to the east from the save point, to the place where the phoenix's power stopped you last time. On the way there, if your herbalist job isn't level 50 yet, use the two plants near the Digdug to get it up to 50 because the next area has Lilium Borealis for you to gather.

Head up the first ramp you see, there's loot there. Then cross the first bridge leading south to a small island with more loot. Continuing eastward, take the next ramp leading up a hill to more loot. When you see the blue tile on the ground, that's the end of this story arc. BUT WAIT! There are four Lilium Borealis herbs around this area, making this the BEST place to grind herbalist levels up to 70, so after you kill the enemies go ahead and do some herb farming laps before moving on. You'll have to fight a bunch of black mages, then their leader who has a lot more HP. After the cut scenes, you'll head back to IRL for a bit.
12 - Starting Chapter 2
Well, you've officially finished Chapter 1. Congratulations, you're not a n00b anymore.

After the IRL cut scenes, you end up back in the MMO world in front of your guild hall. You can go inside and look around if you've never been in there before, but you only have 7 (maybe 8) guild members and you can't upgrade the HQ until you reach 10, so it's the same as it was last time you were here. Save your game though.

Now your XP level is probably locked at 40, and you've probably recently received some level 60 armor as OP-XP rewards. So let's go unlock your XP at the tower. Head to the fourth floor this time. Here, you need to pick up the big torch and bring it to the braziers to light them. There can be multiple braziers in each room. There are also SKELETON monsters for you to fight; and if you missed them at your first dungeon you can catch them with pokeballs now!

PETS:
Skeleton Crossbow
Skeleton Warrior
Skeleton Berserker
Skeleton Mage

The final bosses are a vampire named Edward... oops Eduardo, and a werewolf named Jacob... I mean Jacobean. LOL. You can beat their first form easily, but then they draw more power from the magical sources and get stronger. You can't capture them, so just kill them. And there you go, your XP is unlocked up to level 50 now.

You can swing by Spindlegrist Village, specifically the cemetery behind it. There are THREE Crimson Wort herbs in here, one on the NE side, one on the NW side, and one right in front of the gate. You can do some laps here until you get your herbalist skill up to 80 or even 90, since these herbs give you even more herbalist XP than the blue ones from the mine. This is completely optional, you can always do it later instead.

After this, there is still one side quest we can do immediately before we move the story forward. (If you had an experimental bomb earlier and already gave it to the man at the end of the mine, skip this because you did it already.) Go back to Portburgh. Use the inventing table to build an Experimental Bomb (you'll need to make some silver ore into an argentine bar first, and you need some of those blue flowers you collected at the end of the mine in the last chapter). Then bring it back to the man at the end of the Lassierra Mine and he'll give you about 1000 coins as a reward.

Go up the path and turn right, into the area that is infested with Black Mages. Grab some more of those blue flowers since you're here. Then find the blue symbol on the floor and step on it. It brings you to a lower platform, with a side quest. Talk to the player there, watch the silly scene, and then he joins your guild. That's 8 members now! Keep going up that path, there is another floor symbol further east that drops you to a chest containing an Elixir! Nice. Then go through the gate nearby, leading to the fortress where the "BBEG" is hiding. A man on the bridge wants help with a monster-slaying quest. Talk to him and you'll have to fight a Lava Golem. Sadly, not a pet. I killed it in one hit, it's not difficult LOL. Afterwards, he joins your guild. That makes 9. Head east to the world map, then go south. There's a cave nearby with some treasure. It also contains a fight against a fire golem and fire elemental, both of whom can be captured by Pokeball. If you're still at level 40 it may be difficult, they are intended to be battled after you hit level 60. So no shame in coming back for them later if the fight doesn't go well for you this time.

Pets:
Fire Elemental
Fire Golem

Go back into the Arks Rift, walk west across it and into the fortress. Now you can access those two doors that were off limits to you last time. There's nothing in there except some gold (hidden in barrels) and a resurrection potion (in a chest), but hey it's still free stuff. And while you're there... grind out some XP until you hit level 50. And now if you exit the fort by the eastern door, it puts you on the world map instead of back in the outer mine area.

Back in Portburgh, check the shops to see if you can buy any new stuff. Restock your pokeballs. At the magic card shop, you can now talk to Ardtoohit and buy the skill that lets you use water mounts. You can't FIND any suitable mounts yet, but at least now you'll be able to use one as soon as you find it. This is why I had you grind up to level 50, to unlock this.

Before you leave the mine area, make sure you have AT LEAST 200 rosapphyre ores, which you'll give away as part of a quest pretty soon. And then head NORTH. Cross the river, past the Guild Hall... yup since your XP is currently locked, we're heading back to the Tower to unlock it again. This will mean skipping ahead of the main story quests a little bit, in terms of the history lessons you learn in the Tower, but it's fine.
13 - Tower 5th & 6th Floors
I had trouble with this one, since the final area is a little bit more complicated than usual. So I wanted to devote an entire section of the guide to it, in the hopes that you won't be stuck here for a whole hour like I was.

There are ZERO PETS in this one, you only fight against the Soulless. So you won't be using any Pokeballs here.

The first two areas are straightforward. Defeat the soulless in battle and move on. Just follow the path. But then the third area, after the NPC says you have to use "cunning" to succeed so he can turn the ground into quicksand and trap all the soulless... this is where things get weird.

It's a STEALTH MISSION!
  • Use items to restore your HP and MP as soon as you get here; you won't get another chance to do so before the boss fight.
  • If you are seen by any of the Soulless, you have to restart the area.
  • They have VERY LONG line of sight, but only directly in front of them.
  • You cannot sneak behind them and "knock them out" or "stealth kill" them. If you touch them it counts as a failure.
  • Some of them are stationary, some of them walk back and forth in a straight line.
  • The ones who move will (obviously) turn their heads as they change direction at the end of their patrol route, and they will see you if you are beside them or behind them when they do.

So... to get past the first TWO guards (one walking along the path to the east, and one standing south of you) stay on the west (LEFT) side of the area, hug that little fence/wall and go to the SW corner where you will see a golden bell standing there.
If you hit the bell, the soulless to your east will hear it and come to investigate. As he walks by, you need to be standing OUT OF HIS LINE OF SIGHT and wait until he passes, then sneak around behind him and move to the path he was guarding a moment ago.
But don't forget about line of sight from the one north of you, too!

There is another soulless guard to the east, and he will patrol back and forth along this path. So QUICK AS YOU CAN, move onto the bridge in the center of the area that leads north.
On the north end of the bridge there is another soulless guard patrolling west from the end of the bridge back to the place where you entered the stealth mission, wait for him to turn around and walk back to the west (left) so he doesn't see you as you exit the north side of the bridge.

To the east (right) is another bell, then another guard standing still, then the door that you need to enter to clear the zone.
Hit the bell, then go stand OUT OF THE WAY and allow the guard to come inspect the bell.
While his back is turned, walk behind him and into the door he was guarding.

Now, BOSS FIGHT!! These guys hit pretty hard. You've got two soulless, and a soulless boss. Focus on killing the two little guys first, since they have less HP and one of them has some healing & buff spells that he likes to use on the boss. You also have a special new power, you can call the NPC quest-giver to make a strong attack for you! Use that. And then just use your strongest attacks, hopefully a few that can hit all enemies, until you win the fight. Job done, you're now unlocked up to level 60!

If you are VERY brave, and you fight the enemies around Centralis and win, you can reach level 60 pretty quickly. I don't recommend doing this right now, but in case you want to try... I'll tell you about the 6th floor of the tower, too. Remember, this is OPTIONAL so you can always come back and do it later - at the proper time where it fits in with the story. (But for the record, I did it now because I REALLY wanted the ash digdug to be my pet LOL.)

There are no pets to capture this time, since you're only fighting people. You can skip a few of the fights here, your goal isn't to kill everything but to change all the yellow Empire flags to the red flag of the Coalition. Each area has a certain number of flags for you to flip. Seven in the first area, four in the second (after the teleport). Before you flip that final flag in the second zone, make sure you're at full HP and MP because as soon as you do there's a BOSS FIGHT. It's incredibly straightforward, really. Nothing crazy to worry about here.
14 - In Centralis
From the tower, go west and then turn north. There's a grey wolf monster on the road ahead, which is how you know you're going the right direction. There used to be a military checkpoint here, but it's gone since they've moved further west to block the path leading to Polaris. Your goal is north (and slightly east) to the city of Centralis - it's the city with a red dome around it. In the area nearby, you'll find some purple plant monsters and grey wolf monsters - both of which you should have already captured in the Tower but you can snag them as pets now if you missed them last time. You'll also see some PVP enemies... please, stay away from them because they will MESS YOU UP. If you head Northwest, you'll encounter some big black dragon monsters, these will also end you in a hurry.

However, there is a pet you can catch out here right now - probably without getting a game over in the attempt. Northwest from Centralis, near those big black dragons, is a purple river-demon with a wide-brimmed hat. They are called "possessed korrigan" and they look like they're taking a vacation from working the rice fields to go fishing LOL. They're tough, and they come in groups. But if you can kill most of the group and get the last one's HP down to a quarter then you can try to hit it with a Pokeball and make it your new pet. By the way, these things are worth about 2700 XP each if you kill them.

If you are either very brave, or very stupid, you can also attempt to toss a Pokeball at the black dragon, as well as the black velociraptor. They make fine pets if you can survive the battle and succeed in your Pokeball capture. But the dragon has a reduced capture chance (5% - 10% instead of the usual 10% - 35%). So it may take a few tries. Same for the ash digdug monster; that one took me 23 pokeballs to catch it, two of my team were dead and the two remaining were at very low HP when I caught it at level 63!! You're probably TOO WEAK for this battle right now, so come back later when you're above level 60.

PETS:
Can be fought at level 40:
purple possessed korrigan
purple flower monster
gray wolf monster
Wait until you're level 50:
big black dragon
big black velociraptor dinosaur
DO NOT attempt until you're over level 60...
enraged glopworm (west past the black dragons, it's a rainbow worm on the world map)
ash digdug (west past the black dragons, big black godzilla monster)

I don't recommend grinding out more XP at this point, these enemies on the world map are a bit too strong for you right now because they're meant to block you from going further into the world before you move the story along. So we'll just continue the story by going to Centralis for now, and then we'll come back to murder them (or capture them as pets) later when we're stronger and have better gear. Muwah ha ha ha!!!

Once you're in the city, save your game! There's a lot of loot hiding in the scenery in this city, most of it in the form of money, so keep an eye out for that. There are also a couple of side quests you can start if you head up the stairs to the RIGHT after the save point - one in the restaurant where a player asks you to find his yellow notebook if you're ever walking around the city IRL and return it to the Justice Guild HQ in town; and another where a player asks you to sell him a bunch of ore since he took the Minstrel job instead of Miner, but he wants a lot of advanced ores so you're not a high enough mining level for this yet. Just remember to come back once you have everything on his order form (check your quests menu for details). Also in that same "city center" area you'll find a bunch of shops. There is no magic card vendor here (so sad) but you can buy the water and air mount skills if your level is high enough; there is a weapon and armor shop that sells mid-level gear (levels 20 - 40), and a pet shop that sells some unique pets. You'll also find outdoor stalls for a fish shop and a potion shop. Remember to restock your Pokeballs if you went chasing after pets outside of the city! Deeper into this area you'll find a pink teleport on the ground, it links to all the other pink teleports around the city for "fast transit." Think of it like the city bus.

Back at the save point, this time go up the LEFT stairs. There's a bit of loot and a dead end, with another pink teleport station on the floor. Take the teleport to the Glider Port. Once you're there, explore the whole area - but not the southern exit since it leads to The Eye, we'll go there when we're finished here. There's a guy with a side quest here, he wants you to collect 50 "high scores" - this is a mistranslation, they meant 50 ACHIEVEMENTS (which we will worry about later). Enter the building to the north, then take the eastern exit. This area has some hidden loot as does the building itself. Then go back outside and take the southern path to The Eye.

There is a side quest here... just talk to the historian lady a couple of times to finish it. And there are several areas down some side paths that are currently locked. To unlock them, talk to Nox (with the green "!" mark) in the middle of the area and pay him some Rosapphyre ore to unlock each side area in order. First he'll open the park (west side) - go there now. Youll find another side quest here, a challenge to reach Rank 1 Technograde. We'll do that later, since it requires unlocking the legendary class for Baster. And another side quest deeper into the park, talk to the guy several times to try out a few of his new inventions. He'll reward you three times, and then he vanishes.

Now go back to The Eye and pay more Rosapphyre to open the next area, the military academy. It's on the eastern side of the street. There, you'll find a unique pet on the stage if you enter the building on the west side of the lake. A bunch of money hidden all over in the scenery. A couple of treasure chests with accessory gear. A bunch of NPCs and players who you can talk to if you like learning more of the in-game history. And that's it. So go pay Nox another 100 Rosapphyre ore to unlock the final area, the arena, which is also on the eastern side of the street. Head there now. You can walk around the outside of the stadium to find some loot hidden in the scenery, and a chest. Another chest is on the field. And you can talk with the referee and the players on the field. But you can't get into the stands or speak with the spectators. If you speak with the players in front of the ref, you can spend 5000 coins to bet on the match. If you win, you get around 6000 coins. If you lose, you get nothing.

Back out in the street by The Eye, head north to the building. Run outside for a boss fight after the cut scene INSIDE the building. Then after speaking to the emperor, investigate the three rooms inside the building for more hidden loot. At the south end of the street you'll find an inventing table and a cook pot. USE THEM. Get your cooking and your inventing up to level 50 before you move on. This may require you to go outside of the city to gather more resources if you don't have enough in your backpack already.
15 - Dunkil in the Junkil... I mean Jungle
WARNING: You will NOT be able to come back for quite some time.
Seriously. Take a moment and go back through previous sections to make sure you got everything you need. You also still can't revisit Fortuga yet, not until you tame your first swimming mount to cross the sea at will.

Real quick, I'll remind you about this in part 2 of the guide because you don't actually need to do it RIGHT NOW, but if you're filthy stinking rich from too much grinding for coins then we can get it started now... if you don't have 20,000 gold yet then SKIP this paragraph for the time being and we'll come back to it later. Okay... go to the tavern in Spindlegrist Village, or Portburgh, or Centralis - it doesn't matter which one. Make sure you have around 20,000 coins. Buy FIVE drinks at the bar in a row. And... woah, dude, can you taste COLORS? LOL. Apparently you blacked out and are having a fever dream... no, wait, this is REAL!? Yep. This is the Biffler Glade, home to the cutest fuzzy friends in the universe. There's a man standing by the entrance to town, he sells ONE item and one item only. You will need 20 of them for a side quest... there may be a person wandering around here who asks you for them, or they may show up later in the game, who can say. Also, keep your eyes peeled for a yellow biffler, you can catch him. And there might be a woman playing some music for a ring of dancing bifflers... but I think she only shows up if you are in the Coalition (yellow) faction. Her side quest can't be completed for a LONG LONG LONG LONG time anyway so it doesn't even matter. But if you see her in the northeastern corner of the glade, say hi.

You're done here, go back to the Glider Port and look for the man in charge there. He's inside the main building to the north. He flies you over to Dunkil, a newly built city dependent on TECHNOLOGY, surrounded by jungle, on the Continent of No Return. There's a side quest available, look for the blue "!" icon. This guy wants you to take him with you as you go exploring in the jungle. Outside the building, you'll find the same basic shops that were in every town so far. Plus a cook pot and inventing table. A bunch of money hidden in the scenery, as usual. Nothing super new here, but at least the shops all have slightly expanded inventories since you're in a new area and a new story chapter now. Do some shopping. Then head to the man with the green "!" over his head in the southeastern corner of the city. He'll give you some communicator devices and then you all will be able to leave town and explore the jungle. The exit is in the northeast corner. But save your game before you leave town, just in case something bad happens.
That's all, at least for now
And that... feels like the right place to end this guide. I feel like (from reading the discussion boards and playing through this much of the game myself) most of the confusing or hard parts of the game happen during the first story arc, which we've already finished. And now we've started the second story arc, on a new continent. So it feels like a good place to leave you to fend for yourself.

Also, I want to get this guide out there to actually HELP players. If I try to cover the entire game before I publish it, it might take me seven years LOL. So this is all I'm going to cover in THIS guide... but keep your eyes open for part 2 because it is available now.

If you're looking for part 2 of the guide, please click here.
