Welcome
Updated for version 1.8.1 - MORE DOORS!

A friend of mine couldn't figure out how to create doors. We figured it out for ourselves and they suggested I create a guide.

If enough people are interested, I might try to make a guide with all of the features and secrets I find.

Doors, Arches, and Grates (Path Tool)
Doors
Drawing a path through a building will make a door. The door can be made wider or thinner depending on how wide the path is. The path (and erase) brush size can be made smaller to get more precision. I've marked all of my examples where I made the paths.

Note: All of these "doors" can be walked through when using the walking first-person camera.

Arches / archways
Making the path wider or going through enough of a building corner will create archways. Arches can be difficult to work with. Making your path too wide will cause the arch to split and create pillars in the middle of the arch. You can erase small sections in the middle to have the arch split where you like.

Note: This extra wide arch was made on a corner. I haven't been able to make a wide arch on flat walls without having them split.

Archways can be added to fences and brick walls, automatically creating pillars when the path gets too wide, just like buildings.

Water grates
Making a path through a structure that's also in water will create iron bars similar to a water grate.

Changing the path door / arch / grate height
You can change the height of path doors, arches, and grates by hovering over the top of the door and dragging up/down. It will change the height of all other path doors / arches / grates on the same structure and can go as tall as the structure.

More examples:

Corner path door

Corner / wall arches
Doors (Window Tool)
You can add window "doors" at the bottom of buildings. This includes buildings that are in water or suspended. Drag the windows close enough to the bottom of the building and it will change into a door.

Up to two additional windows can be placed next to these doors to create wider doors, as long as there is enough space on the building. The arrowslit windows cannot be used to add doors (yet).

Note: You cannot walk through these with the first person walking camera.

Update 1.8.1 doors

Trap doors

You can add trap doors by dragging a window on a flat roof. The fancy version gives the iron some flair.

Sneaky Feature: Door (and window) decorations can be "rerolled" by left-clicking them. Some of them, like the clothing ones, have interactions when splitting them apart (it creates a clothesline).
Door Colors
With the palette tool, you can change the color of all doors (including trap doors).

How did you not know? It's in the tutorial.

You can fashion some bridges over water using buildings. Create a building in the water and change width and length to suit. Lower the top of the building to flatten and raise the lower adjustment (create pillars) and draw a path to either end and it should make some steps.

"The smallest windows, (arrow holes) can also be combined in 2 & 3 sections, but it's up/down rather than side to side."

Weird, the game only allows me to stack the arrow-slit windows in pairs, never allowed me to join 3.

You can also add windows to a flat roof to create trapdoors! Ofc you can also add a window to a regular roof for like an attic window.
