Setup!
Step 1: Download the latest version of GZDooM from the website/github. Unpackage the download into the "dosbox" folder of your DOOM + DOOM II release.
Step 2: Rename dosbox.exe to anything, so long as it's not dosbox.exe. Secondly rename gzdoom.exe to Dosbox.exe, this will register the DOS version as gzdoom. You should also place all of the mods you'd like in this folder, some ones I'd like to recommend that would be as definitive as this collection would be wadsmoosh which combines 1, 2 and Final DooM into one release and it's corresponding music mod. Most of the tracks in that mod are in the remixed soundtrack of this collection, so tying both with gameplay overhauls like Brutal Doom is very fun.
Last step: Locate gzdoom.ini inside of User\Documents\My Games\GZDoom

Once you've located the ini, locate the desired game you'd like to mod, either of which will be named:

[doom.id.doom1.Autoload] or [doom.id.doom2.Autoload]

To activate the mods you'd like let's say you only wanted one mod and it was called "coolmod.pk3", in the ini you would type under one of the games and manually add your mods like this:

[doom.id.doom1.Autoload]
Path=coolmod.pk3

From here, you would open the dos version of the game, and if all is right in the world it should work. If there's any confusion on adding multiple mods or what it looks like, scroll down for my order. Modding like this works with multiple mods and mod priority starts at the bottom I believe. That's it, have fun. I recommend any variation of Brutal Doom if you want newer, better gameplay. RIP & TEAR UNTIL IT'S DONE!

I tried this with my original Doom II game ,the one that has been delisted -I had idea it might give me more choices to do this on another game as well since on this game i used my alternative psydoom.
It works good on the old Doom II as well -AND in order to load mods i tried using Launch parameters in bottom tab of GZdoom launch menu. It worked as far as I tell. I dropped my mods in the same folder as the renamed Gzdoom.
I typed this in launch parameters box-
-file relite_0.6.9a.pk3 -file SEAN EDIT w weapons TOO NeuralUpscale2x_v1.0.pk3 -file omgwpns_v05.pk3
These are my 3 mods ,one of them I edited by renaming to zip ,did some edits ,then renamed back to pk3 ,hence the funny name.
Lo and Behold it worked -at least for these 3 mods.
I did not really want to edit the Gzdoom ini and my little method of using Launch Parameter box in Gzdoom seems to work -at least in my other Doom II game.

@The Complicator Something I wanna specify is that the process for separating games with GZDoom was a simpler process with the separate ports of the game. (DOOM 1993 and DOOM II ports respectively.) My best recommendation for choosing your game now would be to place both game wads in the same folder, making sure that the mod orders are different while also having the corresponding files in the same spot and either holding shift while opening GZDoom to open the iwad selector (this wasn't working for me) or typing in the console 'queryiwad' to reactivate this menu upon reopening to select your game of choice. If anybody has a more ideal solution, I'm all ears but this is the best I can come up with. Hope this helps guys, RIP & TEAR!!! :The_Slayer:

I'm not sure anyway to specify other than making sure the specific wad you desire is in that folder. Also no achievements can't be claimed in GZDoom at all.

Anyone know if we can still trigger achievements still using GZdooM?

I'm sorry, might be a lil dum, but how do I change which doom I wanna load up when starting up the dosbox option? Like yeah it launches gzdoom but it goes straight to doom 1, mind helping my dummy ass?
