Welcome

Howdy Puzzle Quest 3 fan! Glad you could stop by and spend a moment with me. Hopefully, this guide will give you useful information about the Adventure Calling adventure.

This adventure is basically a tutorial on the Puzzle Quest 3 (PQ3) adventure system. It contains all the elements you will find in a typical PQ3 adventure: one-way paths, two-way paths, split paths, optional paths, skirmishes, dungeons, rewards, merchants, etc. The only element not included is a Fae Gift, which is similar to a merchant, but your choice is free. You can check out my PQ3 Adventure: Storm The Prison guide for an example of a Fae Gift element.

Let's take a look at what you can expect in this adventure...

UPDATE: The developers seem to have modified the behavior of the change hero mechanism in adventures, preventing you from being able to farm merchant items! Well, it was good while it lasted. Some players are attempting to have the change reversed, but don't hold your breath! The other information in the guide still holds true.

Adventure Calling

This guide covers Adventure Calling, which as mentioned is basically a tutorial on how to play other adventures in PQ3. Adventures in PQ3 can be either re-playable or one-time through. This adventure is not re-playable. However, you can restart an adventure as long as you have not completed it (still in-progress). Instructions for that are below.

Typically you will be given an amount of free energy each day - in this case 6 - so that you can complete the adventure over a series of game days. You also have the option of purchasing unlimited blocks of 5 energy for 50 gems. Gems are needed for lots of important items in PQ3, so you will need to decide for yourself if and win to spend you gems for energy.

Adventure Calling offers 5 difficulties to select from. If you happen to be farming a reward, merchant offering or Fae gift, it probably makes sense to choose the easiest difficulty, so that you can get as many opportunities as possible. Selecting a higher difficulty does not impact the rewards you receive from reward elements, or the items offered by Merchants or Fae gifts. It does impact the battle enemy levels and the chests received from that.

For Adventure Calling, you will mostly receive random shards as a reward, as shown below. You can also get a few epic scrolls, a couple rare scrolls, and runes depending on the path you choose to take. Refer to the Battles section for details.

Battles
Adventure Calling has several branching paths, as well as some optional side branches. I'll try to represent the branching structure as best I can below. Trying to cobble together a map from multiple images was too complicated.

For 3 gems, you can farm the Epic scroll rewards from the left path (easy) at the start of the adventure. You can do that twice each day without buying additional energy, but then you would possibly need to buy energy to complete the adventure, if that was your goal. See details in the Replay Adventure Instructions section.

Merchant Offerings
There are three Merchants available in this adventure. You can preview what each merchant offers below. The items offered are always the same every time Adventure Calling is an available adventure. The adventure cycle in a rotation, with some adventures being better opportunities for farming items, such as follower crystals!

Items offered for gold are a good way to increase your stocks using a resource that is easily obtained. Once you have Elyra as a follower, you will accumulate gold like ore and food, so gold becomes a better option than spending gems, which are more valuable and harder to acquire. Even if you already have a lot of shards, it might be worth purchasing more, if you plan on having a stable of multiple heroes. Minion shards are also usually in short supply, so might be worth a buy from Merchant 2.

If you do not want to purchase anything from a merchant, and you are attempting to bypass the node and continue, simply select the merchant image on the map, and click the "Skip" option.

Replay Adventure Instructions
As the section name implies you will need more than one hero in order to change to a different hero. Your hero must be at least level 10 to participate in the adventure.

This "trick" will work for any adventure is my understanding, and it is not a bug or cheating. It is designed to reduce the amount of grinding required to get necessary resources. It does not allow you to obtain the adventure reward (ie. when you complete the adventure) multiple times, which is what the ability to replay controls. If the game is too "grindy" then players quit and that means less money for the developers, so this will not get you in trouble

(Note: You can click on image below to view the original sized image, should you need.)

Once you have finished what ever you are trying to accomplish in an adventure (the Fae Gift in this case), then you will want to change heroes as shown below.

Next, you must click the Battle icon in the middle of the screen, not the "Continue" at the lower right.

Now click the "Battle" button . You must have enough energy or it will not work correctly.

Update, as further proof the developers allow this, it seems they have removed the need for this step. Now simply clicking on the Battle icon above prompts you to change heroes, so even easier now!

The game will inform you that the hero has changed and will prompt you to restart the adventure. Answer "Yes", which will return you to the map and allow you to restart.

If your newly selected hero is sufficiently powerful enough to handle the adventure, then simply start the adventure over until you need to change heroes again. If your newly selected hero is not powerful enough, then switch back to your main hero and repeat the steps above again to restart the adventure with your main hero. Enjoy the unlimited adventuring!
