15 Beginner Tips & Tricks for Fields of Mistria ✨

I thought I'd put together this list, sharing some tips & tricks I wish I'd known when I first started playing and some things I've learned along the way!

Introduction

Magical farming game Fields of Mistria is launching tomorrow!!

If you’re going to be visiting the enchanting world of Mistria this week, I’ve put together some beginner tips & tricks from my first few hours in the game to help you get started.

#1 - Equipment

Unlike other farming games you don’t actually get all your tools handed to you right at the start of the game. Instead you will gradually collect them over time by completing quests and even buying them in the stores.

As you’re an adventurer, you’ll wake up on your first day in Fields of Mistria with your sword, and a trail mix, but that’s it!

You’ll soon get your watering can and hoe off the lovely Celine and Hayden though meaning you can start farming!

On Day Two you’ll unlock your axe through a cutscene with Eiland, where you help him to clear a tree and reveal a strange statue - more on that later.


You can also get your pickaxe on Day Two, if you visit the Quest Board and accept the quest “Do a Bro a Favor”! Go and chat to Olric and after a brief cutscene where he gives you tips on how to get buff, you’ll leave with your pickaxe in hand!

A couple of days later on Spring 4th you’ll find another quest on the quest board this time called “Something’s Bugging Me”. All you need to do is head to the inn and meet Luc who kindly gives you his old bug net.

And sadly, that’s it for equipment you can unlock through quests. In order to get your spade and fishing rod, you’ll actually have to raise enough money and buy them from the store.

You can buy the fishing rod from Terethia’s shop at the beach on the Southwest side of the map for 500t. Your spade, on the other hand you can pick up from the general store in Town for 500t.


OR if you don’t mind waiting and don’t want to waste your money, there is another way!
Instead of buying the worn equipment at the start of the game, wait to unlock the mines and collect all of the copper!

Then you can craft the copper versions of your copper tools and you don’t need the base tools to do it!

This is a great way to save money as the copper tools cost nothing compared to the base tools which are 500t each and there’s so much copper in the lower levels of the mines that it’ll be easy to do this early on in the game.

While we’re talking about equipment, your inventory might be getting a little bit full as you only start with 10 inventory slots. So, make sure you head to the general store and pick up a bag upgrade for 1000t! It’s a bit on the pricey side, but you will definitely need it.

#2 - Crafting

The way that Fields of Mistria handles crafting is really neat. Instead of needing to spend all your resources to build all the different crafting benches you can just use the ones in town!

So in the early game if you need to craft something, you can head to the kitchen in the Sleeping Dragon Inn to cook your dishes, the woodworking bench by what I think is a church or the one by the Carpenter’s shop, and the workbench outside of the Blacksmiths for your metalwork.

The best part is that the benches pull from your storage chest so you don’t even need to carry all of your resources around with you! Also all the crafting benches are already loaded up with recipes for you to craft rather than you need to unlock them over time. There are new blueprints you can unlock later but there are already some for you to craft, including the important copper tools and even furniture for your house!

#3 - Fences

Speaking of crafting, one of the things you can craft at the carpenter’s bench are fences! They cost 10 wood each to make and if you like your garden looking neat and tidy you’ll definitely want to build one.

That’s because the weeds and debris on your farm will respawn quite rapidly over time and can even respawn over your farmed land. But if you build fences around it then they won’t be able to grow onto it.

#4 - Jumping

My next tip may be one of my favourite things because this never happens in farming sims - in Fields of Mistria, you can jump! This changes everything and makes it so much easier to get around.

It comes in so useful when you’re travelling through the mines because instead of needing to smash every single rock to get to the items you want, you can just hop over them and make your way straight there.

It’s also very helpful when it comes to navigating the farm. Instead of needing to chop every branch and break every rock to make your way across your land, you can just hop over all of it!

#5 - Swimming

Jumping also leads very nicely into Tip Number Five, which took me way too long to figure out! This tip is all about swimming because yes you can swim in Fields of Mistria and it’s great.

It makes it so much easier to get around because you can just nip across a river to get to where you want to go rather than needing to run all the way to the bridge. This is especially useful when you’re trying to get a pesky fish who keeps swimming from side to side.

You’ll also want to keep an eye out for these diving spots that crop up around town, not to be confused with the fishing spots. If you spot one, you just need to hop into the water, swim up and dive in them to collect a variety of items like aquatic resources, fish, and more!

#6 - Shells for Money

While we’re talking about swimming, it also makes sense to talk about the beach, which is located on the southwest side of town just by your farm.

I’d recommend heading to the beach if you can because, just like in Stardew Valley, a variety of shells wash up on its shores that you can then sell for around 20 each.

#7 - Quest Board

Another great way to make money is the Quest Board which you can find just next to the general store!

I would recommend checking your Quest Board every single day, because there’s always a new quest for you to do. But if you miss a day don’t worry because the quests don’t expire so you can just pick them up the following day and there’s no time limit after you’ve accepted the quest either.

Every evening when you go to sleep the game will calculate how much renown you’ve earned from selling items, completing quests, and donating to the museum.

As you earn renown, you’ll level up your town’s prestige and for each level you achieve you’ll earn new rewards. These rewards can be collected from the chest next to the Quest Board.

#8 - Character Customisation

Some quests will reward you with items of clothing that unlock a whole set in multiple colours for you to choose from!

And you can access them all from the menu!

There’s no need to waste resources on crafting them or building a wardrobe. You can change any part of your appearance any time, anywhere you want, which I think is a really nice addition to the game for people who love customising their character.

#9 - Skills

At the end of Day Two you'll be visited by a strange dragon in your dreams, who will teach you how to level up your abilities. By carrying out all your typical farming activities like farming, fishing, mining, woodcutting, and gathering, you’ll collect essences which can be used to level up your skills.

Each skill has different abilities that you can purchase using your elements and as you level up your skills you can also unlock even more abilities for purchase.

#10 - Stamina Regen

While you’re carrying out all those activities, you may get a little tired. Well the good news is that there are multiple locations to recover stamina in Fields of Mistria!

The first and most obvious place is Juniper’s bathhouse where you can have your energy fully refilled by taking a dip! It’s very relaxing, the only drawback is that it does cost 100t.

But, through one of the quests on the quest board I was able to unlock five free visits to the spa so make sure to complete your quests!

The second place you can regain your stamina is at The Sleeping Dragon Inn. The family there are lovely and have a bubbling cauldron of stew on the go for anyone who needs a little pick me up during the day. It only restores 20 stamina, which is nowhere near as much as the spa, but it’s completely free to use!

The final place I’ve found (so far anyway) for you to regain energy requires a copper pickaxe to access it.

On the northeast side of the map you’ll see a path leading northward towards the Deep Woods. In the early game that will be blocked by this huge rock that you can’t get through until you’ve unlocked the copper pickaxe.

Once you’ve broken through that you’ll find another little clearing and in the centre of it right next to the broken stairs up to the Deep Forest is a small fountain filled with clear water. Interacting with it will create a little prompt asking if you want to take a drink and if you do you’ll be rewarded with 20 stamina!

#11 - Magic Well

There is ANOTHER area that you can unlock on the eastern side of the map too that also has a cool thing for you to discover.

On the south east side of the map there’s a similar large boulder for you to smash and once you get through you’ll find a well with two wyvern heads on either side.

Interacting with the well will give you a prompt to donate some money with an option for either 100 or 500 gold. The catch is that you can only do this once per day.

On my first day I threw in 100 gold and received some Ruby, then on the consecutive days I went big and threw in 500 both days, which gave me the recipe for a Berry Bowl and some Fried Rice.

#12 - Archaeology

If you go as far West as you can go on the map, you will find yourself at the Archaeologist’s Site. There isn’t a lot you can do here but at the bottom of the screen is a tent surrounded by supplies and a small sandy ditch where presumably all the archaeological activities are taking place.

The thing is that I assumed that this was all just decoration and there wasn’t anything to do here. But it turns out that you can actually dig these little mounds in the archaeological area and dig up treasure for the museum!

There’s a whole bundle dedicated to this and it took me until Day 15 to realise!

#13 - The Mines

Just like in Stardew Valley the mines aren’t open when you first arrive in town.

But on Spring 6th you’ll receive a letter that kickstarts the quest to reopen the Mines. You’ll soon find out that you need to reach Stone rank in order to reopen them though. I managed to do this on Day 8, but it’ll vary from person to person depending on how you spend your time in the game.

Once you’ve opened the mines you’ll find it’s very similar to Stardew where the lift is broken. Sadly that means that the only way you can travel through the mine is using the ladder. But if you reach the elevator shaft (every 5 levels) you can create a checkpoint you can quickly jump to on future visits.

#14 - MAGIC!

As you progress further through the mine, you’ll also unlock one of the things I was most excited about in this game - magic!

I won’t give you any spoilers about this as it’s fun to uncover yourself but if you do want to discover magic then keep going down!

15 - Saturday Market

For our final tip, I’m going to tell you about the Saturday Market! Every Saturday once you’ve fixed the bridge, there’ll be a Saturday market in the town square with four new villagers for you to meet!

The four stalls offer you new foods and recipes, new hair styles and accessories, new clothes, and new furniture items. But it’s important to note that their stocks change every week so if you see something you like then make sure to snap it up before it’s gone!

BONUS: Liked and Loved Items

And I thought I’d add an extra bonus tip on the end here of all the Loved and Liked items that I’ve found so far in the game to help you get started on befriending or romancing your favourite villagers!

The cool thing about Fields of Mistria is that each villager actually has multiple loved and liked items so there are so many different options and items to discover!

there are two additional fountains to be discovered through main quest progression (cause it requires repairing stuff)
1. past the broken stairs at The Narrows that's supposed to lead towards the Summit
2. past the broken bridge to a small isle located on the left of Terithia's house

it can be found in the upper levels of the mine (up till lvl 19)

it's an artifact, so you can either get it from mine chests or dig it up. alternatively, you can unlock a tier 2 archaeology skill so that artifacts may randomly drop from breaking rocks in the mine to speed up your search!

If you are out foraging/fishing/bug catching, and you run out of inventory space, you can just leave items on the ground - they don't despawn even overnight or between seasons, so you can run past and pick them up later when you have inventory space.

if weeding means removing crops then you use the shovel for that, if you mean getting rid of the grass patches on the farm then you use your sword
