MahjongSoul Gacha? Currencies? Rolling? Explained
Oleh Randrey of Solis
Mahjong Soul has a bunch of currencies, which can make it confusing if you want to roll to get characters.

This should help you understand what to do with all your coppers and cookies and how to roll for characters, especially if you want to be F2P (ie. not pay real money).

What is this guide?
This is to answer what all these currencies and items and just STUFF are in mahjong soul.

It has nothing to do with mahjong the game itself.

Rolling on the gacha for Characters (and Decorations, and you'll also get Gifts)

*Some concepts mentioned:
  • Decoration: these are cosmetics and might be a background music track, a "riichi music", a riichi stick, a skin for your character's hand (mainly cat paws), a skin for the back of tiles, a skin for the tablecloth in-game, or a frame for your character's portrait. They are not a skin for your characters.
  • Bond: each character has a bond level (hearts), like a relationship meter. After you fill all 5 hearts of this bond level you can "Bond with the character" (which is a related separate concept!) to unlock a special skin with them, additional emotes, the last of their story (if they have one) and the few extra "thoughts" voice lines. You advance the bond meter (hearts) by playing with them in Silver+ Room and by giving them Gifts (if its their favourite kind of gift, it is worth +50% bond points).
Getting characters without $$$
If you want to stay free-to-play, getting a character will take a bit of time, but getting a specific character you really want may take very long.

You do it by rolling on the gacha using Summon Scrolls instead of Jade (Jade is the premium currency).

How to get Summon Scrolls?
  • Go to Items (inventory) -> Gift and click "Donate" to donate your Gifts. This will give you Stardust.
  • Then, go to Shop -> Fortune, and exchange 50 Stardust for 1 Summon Scroll.
  • You are limited to 5 scrolls per calendar month via this method. You can also get Summon Scrolls in in-game events (0, 1 or 2 usually, don't get your hopes up 😩).

Playing -> Gifts -> Stardust -> SummonScroll -> Character

Careful, don't Donate any purple Gifts if you want to later use them to Bond with a character, as they are very rare!

You will get many more Gifts if you play in the Silver Room or higher (ie. everything except the Bronze Room), so it really pays to learn how to play Mahjong well enough to get out of Bronze!
How many times do I have to roll to get a Character??
Each time you roll, you have a 5% chance to get a character. So, unless you get unlucky (which you might!), you can expect to get a character around every 20 rolls.

In terms of free-to-play Summon Scrolls and Coppers:
1 Summon Scroll = 50 Stardust = 750,000 coppers worth of Gifts.
Therefore, 1 character ~15,000,000 coppers. Yeah. But don't worry, you will be getting more Gifts from playing and events.

I really wish it wasn't this aggressive or expensive with money. :stress:
Or at least pulls be smaller.

Great post, it's very useful to have everything gathered in one place like this

Just FYI, the chance to get a character within 20 rolls is 65%
If you were to roll 45 times, the chance that one of those 45 was a character is 90%.
You can expect to get a character every 45 rolls... 😬

What if i roll 19 times on a limited banner, then is my next pull guaranteed to be a character in the standart banner? Or each banner has it's own pull history?

So player needs to play for 4 months to get 20 Summon Scrolls and finally summon a character, and there is a chance to fail, so you will need to spend extra 1+ months. Nice system.
