Yes, I am aware that Nobody already made a similar mod to this. I made this weapon mod for those who are still looking for a version that gives more performance boost at the greater cost of lower texture quality.

This reuploaded mod will replace Sniper Rifle with SIG MCX SPEAR 6.8x51 assault rifle from Escape from Tarkov, made for those who don't want to risk their game to have unstable FPS and occasional audio cuts with many HQ-ish mods installed.

What's provided in the original mod by BaiF*ckmouse:

  • Weapon model with animations, custom HUD icon and sounds

Changes I made to BaiF*ckmouse's mod:

  • Compressed the .vtf texture files by resizing them to quarter of their original resolution

You have to subscribe to all Required Items to the right of the description. Please keep in mind that the custom script mod only works on local servers. So, if you use this mod on any official/unofficial online servers, there's a chance that you'll be kicked from the server.

Credits:

Battlestate Games - Weapon model, textures, sounds and animations
Infinity Ward (published by Activision) - Walking and shoving animations
BaiF*ckmouse - Porting works and the original compile for Sniper Rifle
Myself - Compressing the .vtf files

REMINDER: While the purpose of these compressed weapon mods is to minimize the risk of unstable FPS and occasional audio cuts, some of them still have the potential to cause game crashes, as their .smd file(s) (a.k.a. their uncompiled model files) may exceed Source's 17,433 vertices limit. Unfortunately, there's little I can do to address this issue, as splitting their .smd file(s) into different parts requires more skill and trial and error than simply compressing the texture files. Besides, I usually don't take mod nor friend requests.

@Tac_L1bra I don't mind the resolution when it comes to texture compression. That percentage figures you mentioned depend on the weapon mod's file size. If the weapon mod is above 90-100 MBs, I'll usually compress its textures to 25% of their original resolution. Anything below than 90 MBs, I'll go for 50%.

Hello, about the width and height thing you mentioned, is it 512 for 50% and 256 for 25%, correct?

@Nobody The method I use is quick and simple, but difficult for me to explain. You know what, I'll try my best:

1. Convert all .vtf texture files (except those related to Source's lighting and reflection such as phongwarp_steel, exponent, specular etc.) to .tga via VTFEdit.
2. Use XnConvert to compress those files to either 50% or 25% of their original size.
3. Convert those compressed textures back to .vtf and overwrite the original ones.
