Intro
This video will give you all you need to know in order to simplify your experience in Vivec.

You will learn:

-how Vivec is structured,
-the basic structure of your average canton and how to reach each part of it,
-how to check your location,
-how to distinguish cantons from each other at a glance,
-and a few tips to speed up your travel around Vivec.

You can also watch the video just below, for that same information.
A Short Guide to Vivec (video)
The structure of Vivec
Vivec is very large. In it's essence, it is basically nine separate cantons which are connected to each other using bridges.

7 of the 9 cantons look like this:

and those 7 cantons have more or less the same structure.

Here is a full map of Vivec cantons, with each being marked.

The structure of a single Canton
With the exception of High Fane (Temple Canton) and the Palace of Vivec, all Cantons have basically the same structure.

At the top is the Plaza.

You enter it through the big double door from outside the Canton.

The Plaza sometimes connects to the Waistworks directly, but usually you'll have to go outside.

-------------
Below the Plaza is the Waistworks.

You enter it through the smaller doors on the outside of the canton.

(St. Delyn & St. Olms have one room apartments entered from the outside. But for other Cantons, such normal outside doors will ALL connect to the Waistworks.)

Most shops are located in either the Plaza or the Waistworks.

----------------
Below the Waistworks is the Canalworks.

You enter it by using the door at the bottom of the stairs inside the Waistworks. There are always two such doors, on opposite sides of the Canton.

You will find storage areas, tombs and sometimes services inside the Canalworks.

-----------------
At the bottom, below the Canalworks, is the Underworks.

You enter the Underworks from trapdoors in the Canalworks. There are four such trapdoors in each Canton.

This area is basically Vivec sewers. There are secrets and the dregs of society down here.

You can also enter or exit this area from the outside, but you'll have to swim in sewage.

How to check your location
If you get lost in Vivec, it's fairly simple to check where you are.

If you are inside one of the Cantons, just use the local map and it should tell you which area of which canton you are in.

If you are outside and the local map doesn't help, try to find one of these triangular "flags" that are near the corners of each Canton.

How to distinguish Cantons from each-other
This section will tell you how to know which canton is which at a glance and also what important things are located in them.

-------------
FOREIGN QUARTER

If you arrived via the Mages Guild, you will start in the Plaza of the Foreign Quarter. If you arrive with the boat or Silt Strider, this will be the first Canton you encounter.

The Foreign Quarter is the tallest Canton in Vivec and has no upper bridge - there is only one bridge connecting to other Cantons. Also, it is marked by the flag of the Empire.

You will find Jobasha's Rare Bookstore, the Fighters Guild and the Mages Guild in this Canton. The Foreign Quarter is also unique for separating Waistworks into Upper and Lower Waistworks.

---------------
HLAALU CANTON

Hlaalu Canton is the western-most Canton of Vivec and connects to the landmass near Ebonheart. It's only connected to one other Canton (Redoran), but has both an upper and a lower bridge.

If you exit Foreign Quarter Plaza via the western door, this is the first (other) Canton you will see. (left picture of the view)

Note the flag of the Hlaalu that marks it.

You'll find Crassius Curio here, he's the House Hlaalu Sponsor and the man you'll want to see first for the Hlaalu Hortator quest.

--------------
TELVANNI CANTON

In the far east, as far away from everyone else as it is possible, is the Telvanni Canton. Like the Foreign Quarter and Hlaalu Canton, it also connects to land, but in the east.

It is the first (other) Canton you see if you exit Foreign Quarter Plaza from the eastern door. (left picture shows the view)

The Telvanni Canton only connects to the Arena Canton (using both a lower and upper bridge).

It is marked by the Telvanni flag.

The Telvanni in Vivec are irrelevant for the Telvanni Hortator quest, but this Canton has a bunch of magic shops.

--------------
REDORAN CANTON

In the middle are four very similar Cantons.

Redoran Canton is the only Canton that connects to the Foreign Quarter, using only one bridge. It is also connected to Hlaalu Canton in the west.

You could say the Redoran Canton protects Vivec from foreigners of the Foreign Quarter and the Imperial Bootlickers that come from Hlaalu Canton in the west.

It is marked by the Redoran flag.

Again, irrelevant for the Redoran Hortator quest, but has a bunch of trainers and a blacksmith.

-------------------
ARENA CANTON

The Arena Canton is connected to Redoran Canton with four bridges. It connects to two other Cantons - Telvanni and St. Olms.

This is the Arena flag.

The Arena is unique for having an Arena Pit in the Plaza (left picture) and having slightly different Waistwork design (right picture) for the same reason.

You'll go to the Arena if someone challenges you to a duel or if you want to join the Morag Tong.

--------------
SAINT OLMS CANTON

The Canton is connected to the Arena using 3 bridges (two lower and one upper bridge). On the top of the Canton is a statue (presumably of St. Olms) which looks towards the Saint Delyn Canton where the two Cantons are connected to each-other.

St. Olms has several one-room apartments accessed from the outside. It also houses two House Hlaalu councilors.

The flag of St. Olms is below.

--------------
SAINT DELYN CANTON

Saint Delyn connects to St. Olms Canton, but also to Redoran Canton. Like with St. Olms, there is a statue of St. Delyn at the top.

Saint Delyn and Saint Olms are facing each other.

St. Delyn Canton also has one room apartments accessible from the outside. One of them is empty and can be used as a player home.

Also, you can start Sheogorath's daedric quest in the underworks.

The flag of St. Delyn is below.

------------
TEMPLE CANTON

Connected to both St. Delyn and St. Olms is the Temple Canton.

The big rock above is the Ministry of Truth.
The big temple is called the High Fane. That's where the Temple Archcanon lives and where the shrines are.

The door in front of the left bridge leads to the Hall of Wisdom. The Library of Vivec is in there.
The door in front of the right bridge leads to the Hall of Justice. The Ordinator Offices and the Vivec Secret Library are in there.

--------------
PALACE OF VIVEC

The Palace of Vivec is the southern-most Canton of Vivec, connected only to the Temple Canton. It is where the god Vivec lives.

You may hear rumours about treasure in the Puzzle Canal here. It's all lies, there's no treasure in there.
General Navigation Tips
You can speed up travelling through Vivec and I will tell you how.

Firstly, you can use Gondolas. They are basically boat merchants that allow you transport between 5 different Cantons.

There's a Gondola merchant in Foreign Quarter, Hlaalu Canton, Arena Canton, Telvanni Canton and the Temple. Each Gondola can take you to 3 other Gondolas directly - all except the most far away Canton.

You can get from Foreign Quarter directly to Hlaalu, Arena or Telvanni, but you'll need one more trip for the Temple. Similarly, the Hlaalu Gondola cannot take you directly to Telvanni Canton, you need two trips.

--------------

Second, casting Almsivi Intervention in Vivec takes you directly to the Temple Canton in the South, no matter where you are within the city.

-------------

Third, Levitation can be very useful, especially when going from Foreign Quarter directly to the second floor of another Canton.

-------------

Four, if you donate at the Shrine to Stop the Moon, you can get a powerful, long-lasting Levitation effect.

You'll need to donate a Levitation potion. Fortunately, Danso Indules, who wanders outside on the Temple Canton sells Bargain Rising Force Potions.

--------------

Five, if you need help with Vivec Informants, see this video for a guide.

--------------

Finally, it can be very annoying to navigate Vivec with a slow character. If the slow speed starts to impact your enjoyment of the game, consider getting the Boots of Blinding Speed.
